This afternoon xin asked me if i would be free at night. I thought she wanna belanja me dinner or something. Cheh...

Actually wanna ask me to join a competition organized by MAS. It's in conjunction with the new Malaysia Airlines Stimulus Package promotion. So here i am blogging when my actual blog is quite dead ~~(seems that i blog only once a month recently... hahaha)~~.

So now for the question:
If you could travel anywhere, which MAS Stimulus Package will you use and why?

Before i answer that... let me count first... there are like 9 packages available. NINE wei! So many choices...

However, the answer is quite simple. I would use the Weekend Getaway package.

Why? The nature of my job makes it pretty hard for me to go on long holidays where i can plan far ahead in advance. I can't like plan to go on a holiday 6 months in advance because i cant predict the future. I wont know what i'll be doing, where i'll be assigned to, whether my project is in critical phase or not... etc. Therefore, short weekend getaways are just about the right kind of holidays for me.

Unfortunately because time is of essence, i cant go to faraway places outside the ASEAN region if my holiday break is just 2 or 3 days. It's just not worth it (both time and budget wise) to travel to somewhere like Europe for instance.

As much as i want to go to places like Bali or Siem Reap, i would love to go on local holiday destinations too. I used to think that local destinations suck. But i was wrong after i made a trip to Langkawi not too long ago. It was an awesome! There are so many different places i haven't even been to like kota kinabalu or pulau redang just to name a few.

I want to go on a holiday!

Restore my life

Nola... actually restore my iPhone. It suddenly died last week... so had to restore it back to factory settings but fortunately itunes backed up my contacts and stuff. All the apps are gone... then i had to reinstall again...
In the process of doing that.. i found out most of my apps are not supported for firmware 1.1.4 anymore. Bummer... -_-

So finally..... i decided to update it to 2.2.

Woke up last night (actually morning) at 4am. Decided to fix my phone.
This time i used quickpwn and redid the whole process of unlocking and jailbreaking again (this time it's so much easier compared to before when i had to use iLiberty and Winpwn together and that produced some funny bugs on their own somehow).

Didnt sleep anymore after that... finding for new apps and stuff... now got some bug with the contact names appearing as numbers in sms. Weird...

Oh ya.. before i end this useless post...

Here's yet another food review about the much-hyped Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. available at The Curve since a couple of months back.

The famous blue "Run Forrest Run" and red "Stop Forrest Stop" license plate signs are actually an interesting and effective way of getting table service. But of course, people will still wave their hands in the air to call for the waiter. This is Malaysia, what do you expect? LOL.

"Run Forrest Run" means you don't need any service.

"Stop Forrest Stop" means you want to order something. The waiter actually stops at your table and asks if you need anything when this sign is displayed. Even without this sign displayed, occasionally the waiter will still drop by to ask if everything is alright.

Since they provided free glasses of iced water, we ordered one of their specialty drinks to share (yea... coz it's expensive - RM22.90 to be exact!)

Peach, Love, Rock 'n' Roll - mixture of DeKuyper Peachtree and Raspberry liquer, cointreau, pineapple juice and lemon-lime. There's an option to take home the nice large glass but... it costs an additional RM 12.90. -_-"

Okay... now for the food. We sorta knew what to order even before reaching the restaurant since there's a plethora of similar reviews on the internet. All the food looked so delicious but unfortunately there's a limit to how much one can eat in a single meal. :P

So we ordered one appetizer and one main dish to share. Why so little? Coz need to save some space for dessert. Hahahaha.

Cajun Shrimp - hot and spicy shrimp served with garlic bread. Very nice and tasty (but looks extremely oily though)...but the garlic bread is not crispy enough.

Bourbon Street Baramundi - fish and shrimp with generous servings of mashed potatoes. The nachos go well with the mashed potatoes and the sauce. Yummy and quite filling!

Then it's time for the awesome dessert! It's called "That Chocolate Thing". Warm flourless chocolate cake combined with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream... not forgetting the raspberry sauce. *drools*

It was delicious!! Hot and cold and sweet.... yum yum. And.. and.. the chocolate cake... very rich and filling. Eat until nearly wanna explode. :P

But the whipped cream... yucks... scrapped all of that off. hahaha.

So there you have it! The entire menu from Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. complete with the prices of each item. Hahahahahaha.

In conclusion, the restaurant is not bad. Food is good... service is prompt... only bad thing is... expensive! But it's worth a visit once in a while. :D

At first i didn't really understand this song when i heard it during the opening ceremony. Actually i couldn't even make out the words that Liu Huan and Sarah Brightman were singing. But after listening to it many times... i loved it. The simplicity of the lyrics and the music brings a kind of "harmony" feel to it.

I found a lot of sites displaying wrong lyrics for this song through google (even though it's supposed to be the official Beijing Olympics theme song). But i eventually found the most accurate and proper lyrics (with english translation):

How to destroy a digital camera

I was supposed to blog about this last week but was too caught up with the iPhone 3G. Haha.

Wanna see what's inside a Canon IXUS 50 digital camera but too afraid to dismantle it? Well, i'm gonna show it to you now.

By now you'd probably be thinking:
Is jason crazy? why'd he destroy his own camera? Is he too rich or something?

Hahaha. Actually, it's already spoiled before i operated on it. My sister's friend accidentally dropped it on the ground and the automatic lens couldn't retract properly anymore. Somehow it got bent and distorted. I tried to fix it using many ways but to no avail. So i decided to destroy it. And she got a new camera from her friend anyway. :P

Now, i got curious and decided to venture further on the smaller parts of the camera. I found this thingy which looks like a capacitor or internal battery. Doesn't look very dangerous to me... or so i thought.

Word of advice from me: DON'T EVER TRY THIS AT HOME (or anywhere at all). DON'T EVER TOUCH THAT THING!
I got an electric jolt for like 2 seconds when i touched it slightly. Now i know how it feels like to be electrocuted... i don't even wanna think what would happen if i kena shocked by something much stronger.

See the small tiny spot on my finger? That's not some dirt. It's actually a real burn mark caused by the electric jolt. Shortly after that i got a little scared and used a screwdriver to handle the capacitor/battery thingy. Guess what? Somehow i ter-touched another sensitive part and it triggered a loud pop with a bright spark! Something exploded. Fortunately, nothing happened to me or anyone else.

I totally freaked out after that and decided to use thick gloves to dispose of everything.

Moral of the story is - don't try to dismantle your electronic devices. End of story. kthxbai.

Okay... because i'm getting pretty much fed up over the many comments (refer to above and also in my cbox) from alot of ppl around me regarding the new seemingly amazing $199 price of the iPhone 3G, i'll do a quick comparison to enlighten many on the real truth behind the $200 price slash.

Let's call the original iPhone the iPhone 2.5G so there's no confusion.

Let's begin with the price comparison.

iPhone 2.5G (8GB) = $399
iPhone 3G (8GB) = $199

On paper it does look amazing, no doubt about it! But... there's always a catch. Let me explain...

Previously, when buying an iPhone (referring to iPhone 2.5G) customers can purchase the phone either at an Apple store or AT&T store or even order it online without activating it immediately (it can be done at home using iTunes). What this means is that you dont need to sign a 2-year contract with AT&T.

NOW with the iPhone 3G, it is a requirement that all customers who wish to buy an iPhone 3G will have to activate the phone in store (on the spot). This means signing the 2-year service agreement is a must to be able to walk out of a store with the phone ~~(unless of course you steal it...LOL)~~. Well, probably you can still activate it at home using iTunes but you will be required to sign an agreement while you're in the store stating that you're going to enter into a 2-year contract eventually, and you'll be penalized if you don't sign up within 30 days.

Below is an excerpt from the AT&T iPhone 3G policy:
All customers will be required to sign a 2-year agreement. There will not be a "no commitment" price for the iPhone 3G.

Activation Process
The new 3G device will be activated in store in both AT&T and Apple stores. Customers must accept AT&T and Apple Ts & Cs, sign a 2-year agreement, and select the data plan for the iPhone 3G before leaving the store. The current iTunes activation process will no longer be required for iPhone 3Gs, however a short tether process to unbrick the 3G device will be performed in all AT&T stores (tether cords will be provided). Apple stores will also perform this tether process, however in the event that a customer's device is not tethered in the Apple store, their device will be inoperable until they get home and tether through iTunes. Prepaid and Pick Your Plan will not be allowed on the 3G device.

What's the difference?

Okay, if you don't need to sign a contract like what is going on with the current iPhone 2.5G, you can buy the phone and then unlock it later. That is exactly what i did with my own iPhone. Contrary to popular belief, the process of unlocking and jail-breaking the iPhone is not hard. I did it 100% myself without paying anyone a single cent bcoz the unlocking softwares (iLiberty+, Winpwn etc.) out there are open source and totally free.

In a nutshell, there is no such thing as a buy-iPhone3G-without-contract-and-unlock-later-for-free. Well, not in the US anyway. If you happen to live in the US, you can opt for the obvious - actually signing the 2-year contract.

At AT&T's lowest plan price of $39 a month for 450 minutes, plus a mandatory $30 data charge and $5 for 200 text messages, you're looking at $1975 over the course of two years. And that's before tax and extra fees.

Now is that cheap? I dont think so.

However, some countries in Europe will sell the iPhone 3G unsubsidized (meaning unlocked version).

Vodafone Italy has set a pay-as-you-go (or rather pre-pay) price of €499 for the 8GB model. This translates to roughly $773 USD and RM 2521. That's way more expensive than the original iPhone 2.5G price.

O2 UK has confirmed a Pay & Go plan as well but the price has not been revealed yet.

At those unsubsidized prices... it definitely is not any cheaper than the current price of the original iPhone. And maybe you'd think current iPhone prices locally are dropping because they want to clear their stock to make way for the iPhone 3G. Well, think again! The current selling price in Low Yat plaza is about RM2100 which is actually RM200 more than the previous RM1900 about a month ago.

Next up - phone specification comparison. What's new in the new iPhone 3G?

Okay, the most significant addition is.... *drum roll*... 3G!!! (like duh~).

3G is practically useless in Malaysia... well at least to me it is. When people mention 3G, what they meant is really video conferencing. If that's what you really want, then the iPhone 3G will disappoint you big time.

Why? Bcoz it doesn't have a front camera. WHAT???! Yes, that's right. No front camera = no video conferencing ~~(well you can be innovative and use a mirror...lmao).~~

What Apple is trying to sell is really just the faster data transfer rate using 3G instead of EDGE on the iPhone 2.5G. In the US, i guess this is something feasible where the usage of 3G networks are much more compared to here in Malaysia.

Besides 3G, the next most anticipated upgrade to the original iPhone is GPS or more accurately A-GPS (assisted global positioning system). A-GPS is better than GPS not the other way around.

Well, this feature is cool but there's a negative side to it. The built-in GPS functions with Google Maps which i think is...useless. In my opinion, a GPS receiver is only useful if it can have turn-by-turn navigation (with voice!) much like a standalone GPS device used in a car.

In the Apple SDK agreement there's a statement which prohibits this very feature:
Applications may not be designed or marketed for real time route guidance; automatic or autonomous control of vehicles, aircraft, or other mechanical devices; dispatch or fleet management; or emergency or life-saving purposes.

This means developers are not able to create turn-by-turn navigation applications legally for the Appstore to be used in the iPhone 3G. But who cares? There's always the Installer for 3rd party application developers =D. I'm sure sooner or later someone is gonna develop a proper GPS route guidance software regardless of what Apple says.

3G and GPS... that's basically the ONLY 2 significant additions to the new iPhone 3G in terms of hardware. Besides that it now has a flush (non-recessed) headphone jack. This means you can use just about any headphone/earphone of your choice instead of sticking to the proprietary Apple ones. I have already overcome this by buying an adapter for my current iPhone so now i can use any earphone that i like.

That's all you will get as far as hardware goes. For the software side, there will be firmware 2.0 or also known as iPhone OS 2.0. The iPhone OS is based on the Mac OS X platform. Apparently it brings a lot of improvements over the current version which is 1.1.4 for the iPhone 2.5G.
The best part is the firmware 2.0 upgrade will be available for free to all existing iPhone users as well. This means that when it is officially available, i can upgrade my current iPhone 2.5G to use the firmware 2.0 and it will function exactly like the new iPhone 3G minus the 3G and GPS functionality of course. So when it concerns software, i lose nothing in this case.

Now let's see what the iPhone 3G is STILL lacking compared to the iPhone 2.5G.

Yup, still just 8GB or 16GB model to choose from. No 32GB model.
No better camera.
Yup, the camera module is exactly the same as it was in the original iPhone. No autofocus, no flash, still 2.0 megapixels. In my opinion, my Sony Ericsson w810i camera beats it anytime.
No picture messaging.
Yup, still no in-built MMS capability. But we already have a working software to take care of this quirk called SwirlyMMS. I heard that there's a better version coming out soon.
No video.
Yup, still no video capturing on the iPhone. But we also have a couple of software already able to do this. No biggie.
No bluetooth audio.
Yup, still no A2DP for stereo streaming and you still can't transfer files to other devices using the bluetooth as usual. It sucks... yea i know.
No copy and paste.
No, this is not referring to drag and drop file transfer like a portable hard disk. Copy and paste here simply means... the ability to copy and paste text in the iPhone itself. For example, when typing an email or blogging. You won't be able to cut-copy-paste. This does not bother me though... i hardly need to do such a task.

Next up - iPhone looks comparison. Does the new iPhone 3G look and feel better than the current one?

It's a matter of opinion really. Now it comes in 2 colours - black and white (only available for the 16GB model) but the differences are very little (compared to the original iPhone). Let's compare the phone dimensions:

iPhone 2.5G: 11.50cm (height) x 6.10cm (width) x 1.16cm (thick) and weighs 135g.
iPhone 3G: 11.55cm (height) x 6.21cm (width) x 1.23cm (thick) and weighs 133g.

Many thought that the iPhone 3G looked slimmer than the original iPhone but in fact it is actually slightly thicker. It looks thinner because of the extra curves at the edges giving an optical illusion of some sort (much like the macbook air).

Also, the metalic edges are thinner now on the front portion of the iPhone 3G compared to the original one but this change is purely aesthetic. The screen size is identical to the original iPhone which is 3.5" with 480 x 320 resolution.

Personally, i don't like the back cover of the new iPhone 3G. It is made of plastic now (fingerprint magnet!) compared to aluminum on the iPhone 2.5G. Supposedly it's to improve wifi signals or something.

Okay basically that's all. My in-depth review has been completed!

Finally, the inevitable question:
Do i regret getting my first generation iPhone just a month before the announcement of the iPhone 3G? Definitely NOT! XD

The latest source of traffic jams = Petrol stations!

Petrol price hike of 78 cents bringing it to a total of RM2.70 per litre. Everywhere there's jam... normal roads... highways....all concentrating at the petrol stations. Ppl queue even up to 200 meters long just to pump their petrol before midnight. ~~Cars will turn into pumpkins when the clock strikes 12.~~

What's the point??? Save a couple of bucks for a week... then still have to pay like normal wat... sigh~ typical malaysians...

Time : 8.30pm (supposed to be 8pm! >_<)

I reached the stage area at about 7.40pm and there were already plenty of ppl camping there at good positions with their expensive DSLRs. I got an average spot at the corner...well.. good enough la considering the time i reached there. The crowd was crazy i tell u... I seriously did not expect that many ppl in such a tight space. With this kind of number, the stage should be outdoors. The organizers did not do a good job in anticipating the crowd numbers.

Look at the crowd at 8.15pm! O.o

Well there were 2 emcees wasting time till about 8.30pm. Then the real star of the night appeared on stage. The crowd were ecstatic! They went practically bonkers~
Marié sounds as good as she looks even in a live performance such as this. Awesome!

Journey to the land of K-dramas

I think i'm gonna start blogging about this trip and updating it part by part coz if i don't start now... probably i'll never. As usual, i'm gonna do this chronologically and also for the sake of easier reading. So here goes...

Day 1

Flight from KLIA to Incheon International Airport (IIA) took about 6 hours. The airport is rated No. 1 in the world whereas KLIA is only No. 3 but i have no idea why. From a normal passenger point-of-view, i still think KLIA is better. The layouts of the airport and shops are more logical in KLIA although IIA is larger i suppose. Furthermore, KLIA has a better architectural design overall.

First destination is where ALL tourists must and will visit if they go to South Korea - Dae Jang Geum Theme Park. This is the place where the drama was filmed. If you have no clue what i'm talking about... it's also known as Jewel in the Palace or in Mandarin 大長今 Dà Chángjīn. If you claim to be a korean drama fan and have never heard of this drama before... there's a high chance that you're a little frog living under a coconut shell. Haha.

After that we had lunch - Korean steamboat.
Make a note of this: all Korean food will definitely have kimchi. There are many types of kimchi but the ones we normally know and associate Korean food with is fermented Chinese cabbage.

After lunch, we were transported to the airport again to take a transfer flight to Jeju Island. Yes, a flight... not by some boat or ferry. Haha. The flight took about slightly less than an hour.

By the time we reached Jeju and checked out of the Jeju International Airport, it was time for dinner. Guess what's for dinner... Korean steamboat again (although it looks a little different).

This time got extra fish... the taste quite nice actually

When dinner was over, we checked into a hotel called Jeju Pearl Hotel. And if you're wondering, i did NOT have any special encounters (if you know what i mean). =_="

Day 2

This is a typical Korean breakfast at the hotel. Verdict = horrible.

Immediately after makan, we went to our first destination in Jeju - Yongduam Rock a.k.a. Dragon Head Rock.

Basically it's an unusual lava formation which supposedly looks like a roaring dragon rising from the sea into the sky. No matter how i look at it... the best i can make out of it is a dragon head shape ~~(more like dragonzord from power rangers... LOL)~~ thingy facing the sea.

The wind was blowing rather strongly and it was freakin cold i tell you. Then there were these statues in that area called Dol hareubangs. They're now sort of an official Jeju Island symbol but locals believed they are guardians or gods offering protection against unwanted spirits and a source of fertility (mostly for women).

Next destination is Tamla Mok Sok Won - The Garden of Wood and Rock Formation.

This place has a good collection of interesting natural rock and wood sculptures.
