My Weekend In Nashville

Feeling Thankful...

Well it took a little while, but things are finally getting back to normal. I'm all moved in to the new place (pictures to come soon), and aside from the art we have yet to hang on the walls, it's really starting to feel like home—especially now that we have working internet. Going on two weeks without it, I am beyond thrilled to have it back into my life!

But, internet issues and apartments aside, and after a much needed weekend with my girlfriends, I've really felt a burst of thankfulness over the last few days, and couldn't help but share my thoughts with you all.

It's amazing how easy it is to get bogged down by the little things—may it be the stress of moving or a giant leap of faith, the anxiety of a never ending to-do list, or just a really bad day... there's no doubt that these things add up and can make us feel all too overwhelmed.

But whenever I have these moments (or days) I try to remind myself of the blessings in my life, and how fortunate I am to have so many amazing people around me!

No, you do not have to be 16 or shop at Abercrombie & Fitch to pull off a mini skirt. In fact, if you're going to rock the look, you best be steering clear of of the denim cutoff versions that land just riiiiight under your booty. It wasn't a good look in high school (yes, I was guilty of this faux pas, too), and it certainly isn't a good look now. Instead, show some leg with a fun, printed mini skirt that hits at that perfect thigh-high point. Pair with a simple tee or tank + some funky pumps or wedges and you're ready to hit the town!

As much as I would love to mix up my perfume preference on a regular basis, I have the hardest time switching when I find something I love.

But, a few weeks ago I was at the very bottom of my perfume stash and decided it was finally time for something new. The girls in the fragrance department were raving about Fan di Fendi, and with one squirt on my wrist I was absolutely hooked. After 10 minutes of ooh-ing and ahh-ing about how "it smells soooooo gooooood," and 10 minutes of the saleswoman wondering if I would actually buy the stuff, I did. And I've worn it every day since.

I went for the Eau de Toilette, as I prefer the light and airy variety. If you're in the market for a new scent, or if you're the kind of girl that has bottles on end, I would highly recommend adding this to your collection.

You Oughta Know: John Piermarini

I'm excited to introduce a new feature on SWS... You Oughta Know, and this week I'm thrilled to present John Piermarini.

"I wanted to create a new shopping experience rather than just a store. The great thing about Piermarini is the personal touch that every customer gets when they come to the store, or even when they shop online."

It's safe to say that this guy is well beyond his 21 years. John began experimenting with fashion design at age 15, and by the time he was 17 he MADE a Wedding Dress for a client. Fresh out of high school in June of 2010 he set his sights high, and voila- Piermarini Boutique, his storefront (in a quaint house on the streets of uptown) became a reality in November of the same year. Oh, and last year he launched fashion line Abi & John with his mentor, and Dallas Fashion icon, Abi Ferrin.

When it comes to his shop, John is not ordering trendy items in bulk - he's doing just the opposite. John hand picks labels and pieces from designers that are based all over the world, and he guarantees that the items in his store won't be found lurking around any other Dallas (and in most cases, Texas) stores. Oh, and for every item he buys he only gets one in every size and there are no reorders. Translation: The inventory is constantly changing and customers are purchasing one-of-a kind/ hard-to-find items. (Sounds way better than wearing the same H&M dress as the girl at the same party. Am I right?)

Choosing mostly European lines, John truly goes out of his way to give customers a unique and comfortable shopping experience. From Denmark's Won Hundred, Sweden's Minimarket, to Moods of Norway from... you guessed it, Norway, you're likely to discover a new favorite designer upon every trip to the shop.

Talk about an awesome shopping experience. It's a good thing they have great clothes, otherwise I'd probably stop by just to talk John's ear off, because he really is that cool.

Unless you've been living under a rock then you know exactly who Nicholas Sparks is. The brains behind The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, Dear John, The Last Song, the list goes on and on and on.

Betcha didn't know that he wrote his first novel when he was 20, broke the Notre Dame school record as part of a relay team in 1985 (the record still stands), founded a school in North Carolina, and oh yeah... he's going to be in Dallas next week.
