(three of whom are too old for that anyway). I need a time out. What in the world was I thinking when I decided to cook and blog my way daily through my extensive diet book/cookbook collection? I still LOVE the idea and will probably do it someday, but my life is stuffed full of commitments already without just adding another "to do".

Beth Moore helped me solidify my decision in our final bible study lesson last night (Stepping Up: A Journey Through the Psalms of Ascent).

We can't move forward when we load so much onto our own shoulders. I make myself tired and overwhelmed by my own choices and decisions. And I just have to let some things go. God doesn't do this to us; WE do this to ourselves by piling on more and more. Lots of things are good, but we are called to focus on the best.

Regular blogging has obviously been one thing I've not done for a while. I don't know when I will host my next swap, apron or otherwise. I do have quite a few books I've received to review for publishers, so I need to finish that commitment soon. I work full time to help support our household, so that's not likely to change. I'm first and foremost a wife and mommy, and my house is crying for my time and attention. But, my extensive volunteer commitments need to be culled down. Tough, though. Some things I've done for YEARS and cannot imagine letting them go. It was downright uncomfortable to NOT raise my hand and volunteer to be the Girl Scout Cookie Mom again!

Some commitments I will keep and I'm very excited to share online when I can. I'm crafting the centerpieces for our Women's Retreat the first weekend in March, so have about 50 of those to finish between now and then. Stage/chapel decor is my responsibility, along with the name tags and whatever "favor" we will hand out. We go to a good-sized church, so about 225-250 ladies will be attending this retreat on the Oregon coast. It's a HUGE undertaking but also a tremendous blessing and I'm very excited to be part of it. I'm trying to find another crazy friend who likes to craft to help me out, and have already found a couple that will help there. The past two years I was responsible for the Retreat snack food/hospitality so this will be more work ahead of time but a little less at the retreat itself. The favor has me stumped, though, to tell you the truth. What is a nice $1-$2 item that can help ladies remember the retreat theme -- Hope Remains? We've done water bottles, one year someone donated scarves, last year we didn't have a favor and just handed out paper bookmark with the $1 going to the scholarship fund. We will definitely have a bookmark again because there's no real cost there. I've thought about personalized lanyards (with the theme and our church name/date), cake pops (but then there's allergies to deal with), a mini flashlight (the retreat compound is spread out and people will go from building to building, sometimes after dark/plus signifying the "light"), stones engraved with "HOPE", or even an assortment of Dollar Tree mini inspirational books. Nothing feels quite "right" yet ....I would LOVE suggestions.

Well, it's been another full day at work/home so I'm going to head to bed. It just feels good to blog a little, and put myself out there. Not very entertaining, I'm sure, but more personal than in a long time. This weekend is my first Women's Ministry Leadership Retreat (not to be confused with above retreat). Time spent in the Word and in fellowship with other lay leaders in the ministry program. We've been working through the book, "Sacred Rhythms", and I need to get on my homework so I'm prepared. My big leadership role this year is actually the SUMMER women's program, so I have lots more crafting, discipling, and organizing to do and share between now and the end of July!

Spicy Garlic Green Beans (page 148)
2 serving

1 tablespoon coconut oil
1/2 teaspoon curry powder
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
Pinch of freshly ground black pepper
8 ounces green beans, ends trimmed
2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced

Preheat the oven to 375F.

Put the oil, curry powder, chili powder, salt, and pepper in a large bowl and stir them together. (If the coconut oil is solid, which it will be if your kitchen is a little cool, put it in a stainless steel mixing bowl and pop it in the oven for 30 to 60 seconds as the oven is warming. The oil will melt very quickly.)

Add the beans and garlic and toss with the oil and spices until evenly coated. Spread the beans in an even layer on a baking sheet.

Bake for 5 minutes, then turn the beans and bake for another 5 minutes, until slightly browned. If you like your beans wilted, extend the cooking times to 10 minutes on each side.

What Would Jesus Eat?
Don Colbert, M.D.
Thomas Nelson - 2002

With biblical and methodical insight, Dr. Don Colbert recommends asking two key questions about everything you eat today: Why do I eat this? Would Jesus eat this? The answers, he affirms, will lead you to a new, nutritious way of living and eating.

In this comprehensive eating program, Dr. Colbert reveals that Jesus' diet is the ideal choice for those struggling in America's food-frenzied culture. Thousands of years ago, God laid out a sensible approach to eating, with predictble results: a healthy body and long life. By examining His eating plan you will discover:

The health benefits of foods Jesus ate and the health risks of foods He avoided

How to follow Jesus' eating model with foods that are available today

Jesus' favorite food

Why foods forbidden in the Old Testament dietary laws are unhealthy

The staple of Jesus' diet

The type of exercise Jesus participated in

What desserts Jesus might have enjoyed

The "fast foods" Jesus ate

How Jesus is the ultimate role model in all things, even diet

If you are ready to make a lifestyle change and want to do it in a God-honoring way. What Would Jesus Eat? is the guide for you.

One suggested dinner:
Salad of dark green lettuce with vinegar and oil dressing

Whole-grain pasta with marinara sauce, sprinkled with Parmesan cheese (see recipe)

One four-ounce glass of red wine or filtered water

Homemade Marinara Sauce (page 216)

Add to one can of low-salt tomato sauce

2-3 fresh tomatoes, chopped

2-3 garlic cloves (minced)

1 cup chopped onions

3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

1 teaspoon oregano

2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

2 teaspoons dried basil

Celtic salt and pepper to taste

This sauce does not need to be cooked!

3D Diet, Discipline, & Discipleship
This is an older book, but I really enjoy the philosophy behind it. I think a faith-based weight loss program is wonderful, and I'll be sharing few others with you as well. Information from the inside flaps:

This powerful, life-changing story of the woman who developed America's first faith-based diet program has everything you need to start your own 12-week 3D program.

The author guides and encourages you to embrace the three essential components of a healthy life:

Diet - adopt a balanced food plan and exercise program

Discipline - form healthy habits that will set you free to be the person you were meant to be

Discipleship - nurture your inner life and commit wholeheartedly to what you believe in

You'll find everything you need to begin, including a complete food plan, new exercise information, recipe, and member testimonials to spur you on. So begin your exciting journey today!

About the Author: The originator of the first Christ-centered group diet program, Diet, Discipline and Discipleship, Carol Showalter has been a spokeswoman for the program for more than 30 years. Carol and her husband, William, live in Massachusetts and have four grown children and five grandchildren. (from 2002)

SLOPPY JOES
(a bit unfocused - sorry. We had this for dinner after a late night Girl Scout meeting and I snapped a quick picture with my camera, on my Christmas dishes.)

1 pound extra-lean ground beef
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 cup finely chopped green bell pepper
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
6 sandwich buns

In large skillet, combine ground beef, onion, and green pepper; saute over medium heat for 8-10 minutes or until beef is thoroughly cooked. Drain well.

Add remaining ingredients, except for buns; mix well. Cover and simmer 15-20 minutes, stirring frequently. Serve on buns

Serves 6
Exchanges - 1 1/2 starch, 1 vegetable, 2 medium-fat meat

This was a simple and tasty dish; nothing fancy but very satisfying and good for you. I'd make it again any time. Fun part, as I was looking into this book online, I found that there's a new and improved version, all updated in 2010. Your Whole Life: The 3D Plan for Eating Right, Living Well, and Loving God definitely seems worth checking out. There's even an online community and support system over at 3D Your Whole Life.

I have a belly on me, so this title intrigued me --- looks like I just need to give up bagels and no more belly! Not exactly true ... Here's what the back of the book tells us:

Did you know that eating two slices of whole wheat bread can increase blood sugar more than 2 tablespoons of pure sugar cane?

Wheat Belly is a provocative look at how eliminating wheat - even so-called healthy whole grain wheat - from our diets is the key to permanent weight loss and can offer relief from a broad spectrum of health and digestive problems.
Drawing on decades of clinical studies and the extraordinary results he has observed after putting thousands of his patients on wheat-free regimens, Dr. Williams Davis makes a compelling case against this ubiquitous ingredient. A wheat-free diet has been associated with significant benefits, including:

Weight loss of 20, 30, even 50 pounds in the first few months

Alleviation of metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes

Recovery from intestinal woes, like ulcerative colitis and celiac disease

Marked improvement in overall cholesterol and LDL counts

Improvement in bone density and reversal of osteopenia

Cessation of skin conditions from psoriasis to oral ulcers and hair loss

Reduction of inflammation and rheumatoid arthritis pain

Readable, thought-provoking, and carefully researched, Wheat Belly offers a new and vitally important perspective on the most critical health concerns of our time.

The focus of this eating plan is giving up all wheat products - and that doesn't mean just going gluten-free, because many of the GF product fillers are not allowed. In fact, so many things are not allowed I was having trouble figuring out what you CAN eat.

Consume in unlimited quantities: vegetables (except potatoes and corn), raw nuts and seeds, oils (EVOO, avocado, walnut, coconut, cocoa butter, flaxseed, macademia, and sesame), meats and eggs, cheese, non-sugary condiments
Consume in limited quantities: non-cheese dairy (milk, cottage cheese, yogurt, butter), fruit, whole corn, fruit juices, nonwheat/nongluten grains, legumes, soy productss
Consume rarely or never: wheat products, unhealthy oils, GF foods (esp. those made with cornstarch, rice starch, potato starch or tapioca starch), dried fruit, fried foods, sugary snacks, sugary fructose-rich sweeteners, and sugary condiments

This is a really intriguing premise; for me, I would have to really see some superior health results to make such a drastic change in my eating habits. I would especially give it a try if I suffered from any of the digestive complaints or other severe symptoms that this regime is purported to alleviate.

We made one of the recipes for dinner tonight, the Three-Cheese Eggplant Bake. It tasted quite like regular Eggplant Parmesana and was delicious; we served it with steaks on the side. Even my oldest son liked it, and asked what the vegetable was the had the meat-like consistency.

THREE-CHEESE EGGPLANT BAKE

1 eggplant (cut crosswise into 1/2-inch-thick slices)
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
1 yellow or Spanish onion, chopped
2 to 3 cloves garlic, minced
3 to 4 tablespoons sun-dried tomatoes
4 to 6 cups spinach leaves (more is better)
2 tomatoes, cut into wedges
2 cups tomato sauce
1 cup ricotta cheese
1 cup shredded whole-milk mozzarella cheese (4 ounces)
1/2 cup grated Paremsan cheese (2 ounces)
4 to 5 fresh basil leaves, chopped

Preheat oven to 325F. Place the eggplant slices in a baking pan (we used a 9x13). Brush both sides of the slices with most of the oil, reserving about 2 tablespoons. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove the eggplant but leave the oven on.

Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, sun-dried tomatoes, and spinach and cook until onion softens.

Scatter the tomato wedges over the eggplant. Spread the spinach mixture on top. Top the spinach with the tomato sauce.

Mix together the ricotta and mozzarella cheese in a bowl. Spread the cheese mixture over the tomato sauce and sprinkle with the basil. Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese over the top.

Bake uncovered until bubbling and the cheese is melted, about 30 minutes.

Let me know if you try this diet or this recipe!
As confessed in my last post, I have a crazy obsession with diet and healthy lifestyle books. I really AM interested in different views and opinions on what can help me achieve a optimum level of health and fitness. Yes, I am aware that I could probably achieve said level if I just put the time spent reading into exercise, and showed more self-restraint in my eating. BUT, what fun is that for a bibliophile like me??

Miss T and I conducted a quick inventory of my books, and then I sorted them into a random order in which to share these gems (and some of them are OLDIES). So, please indulge me. And enjoy. =) I'd love to hear if you have tried any book I'm sharing and your experience.
My first book, I found at a super discounter but it's totally worth a full price purchase. I do have to admit that this one isn't a totally random pick -- I stumbled onto "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" on TV today so couldn't resist sharing this Greek-style diet today. I actually really like this book, full of pretty down to earth advice and guidelines. Former-467-pound-physician, Dr. Nick Yphantides, lost 220 pounds in 2001 by making some radical changes in his life including traveling around the country watching baseball games during his weight loss journey.

He created and shares Seven Pillars of Weight Loss ("pillars" in keeping with the Greek theme -lol).

I. Change the way you see before you change the way you look
II. Slash your calories by eating for the right reasons
III. Fill your tank with the right amount of the right foods
IV. Burn calories like never before
V. Plan a radical sabbatical
VI. Don't travel alone
VII. Realize that your weight-loss journey is for a lifetime

In addition to expanding on every concept with its own chapter, I really enjoy his Pillar III: Fill Your Tank with the Right Amount of the Right Foods. He has written his own "Ten Commandments of Healthy Eating:"

1. Stop eating when your body gives you the yellow caution signal (traffic signal comparisons in reading your body's hunger signals: green light means hungry so go ahead and eat; yellow light is cautionary reminder that you should stop soon - very soon; red light means to slam on the brakes now)
2. Avoid food wrapped in plastic, sealed in a can, or not served in its original form
3. Limit your processed carbohydrates and increase your intake of complex carbohydrates
4. Fill the hunger hole in your stomach with salads and other healthy options before you plow into the carbohydrates and fats
5. Eat treats like they are treats
6. Don't waste calories (he doesn't drink calories)
7. Eat tasty and satisfying food
8. Kick-start your metabolism every morning (breakfast)
9. Keep your body hydrated with plenty of fluids
10. Eat frequently to avoid raging hunger

See what I mean by logic, advice, and lots of common sense? No special gimmicks or food combos. I rather like this one. =) Dr Nick can be found at http://www.healthstewards.com/.
In my search for a fun blogging project for 2012, I kept coming back to wanting to share my love of cooking and reading. I have a HUGE collection of cookbooks (220+) and that doesn't include the books still boxed from our move or any of the 60's-80's cookbooks left by our landlord. I also have purchased most every diet book/cookbook there is - most of which I haven't actually followed ... ;) I first thought about cooking from one cookbook a day in 2012 BUT I really don't plan on cooking every day this year. But most days, I would. And I know that most people have some health goals for the start of the new year.

So, for January and February, I will be providing you with a "Diet Books Review". Then, I will transition into "Cooking Through My Books" --- regular posts with a recipe that our family loves (or will finally try) from my lovely cookbooks!

What are blogging about this year??
Christmas Eve was our big family and friends dinner celebration (with angel wings on the chairs, too). Hubby is wearing my sassy Sugar Baby Apron, my friend Liz came with her two oldest children (Kristin and then Rene after work), Mike's mom Karen and her husband Luis made it from Longview, the girls brought their boyfriends, and then Trevor and Miss T rounded out the crew. My heart is full just remembering - was it really only last weekend???
My coach, Rhonda Kay, is the best and encouraging while being patient.

Our plan also has an on-line component with audios and videos that educate and motivate. PLUS Rhonda and I have met weekly for lunch to touch base. As we got closer to the holidays, I found myself increasingly overwhelmed with my busy life and not following the plan. That said, I feel like this has been one of my healthiest holidays ever - I'm very aware of portions and WHAT I'm eating. So, while we've been on hiatus for December, I'm excited to finish up my final four weeks.

IF YOU have health goals, I encourage you to contact Rhonda Kay - she is the BEST coach ever and you can achieve whatever your heart desires. The Healthy Edge is also offering a free online seminar TOMORROW with some info, too:
I will blame one little piece on my lack of Micro Card Reader; my camera is holding all my delicious pictures hostage since I've lost my camera cord eons ago and several readers. I even bought a third one but it was the wrong type. Can you believe?!? I keep super busy with the Flirty Apron Swap - lotsa time needed on the Secret Santa Swap this year which kept me on edge; plus the Apronist is new to me this year and I'm trying to find my voice there. I held a ton of giveaways and offered lots of apron discount codes over there with a new Holiday Gift Guide.
You'd think they'd be happy to ADD service instead of having it canceled.)
Worth it or not? I know it's a personal choice but am conflicted. My husband is totally against it but of course he's someone I can't always reach when I'm at work and he's home, out of reach due to above .....!

Snowmen Apron Giveaway

Quick -- pop over to the Apronista for a chance to win THIS baby - the special Snowmen Baking Apron

So, I made it through my first week on the Healthy Edge program. I did it!!! The first five days, I used the USANA RESET program products, so meal replacement shakes and nutrition bars, along with fruit and veggies every day plus a high-quality supplement.

It was with great fear and dread that I stepped on the scale Saturday morning after diligently following the program for five days. Was it all worth it? Did I lose any weight or maybe did my body freak out since I'm not eating as much as normal, hold on to weight, and make me gain?? Well, my fears were for naught -- I lost 5.5 lbs! I was so proud of myself, even without the loss, for actually following the program to the "t" this week. I took my own shake to grandma Karen's house for lunch on Friday, and then actually took home my entire Outback Grilled Salmon and Veggies dinner since we stopped Friday night and I wasn't about to ruin my success thus far. It IS a strange feeling to only eat a small plate of grilled veggies when everyone else is consuming large plate of foot. Strange, but oddly freeing .....

My new lifestyle/diet now focuses on Low Glycemic eating, emphasis on a very clean diet of organic fruits, veggies and meats; raw nuts; low fat dairy; and (sparingly) whole grains. My coach, Rhonda Kay, is encouraging me to stay off the scale for the rest of the eight-week program so that I can focus on how I feel rather than what some number says I should feel. I will tell you that I feel great -- definitely less bloated and I feel lighter. I still need to make working out a priority in my packed schedule.

Jill hosted a Crafty Bits Swap Spot Pincushion Swap and she was my partner. I was blessed with this stupendous package!!

I mentioned that I love Russian Nesting Dolls and look what she crafted, just for me! This pincushion is so delightfully sweet that I can't stand it. Plus she crafted this sweet tin to match and it's filled with buttons. She sent me HOMEMADE zucchini relish with a tag full of good ideas on how to use it, knitted dishcloths (which are the BEST), embroidery thread, an adorable strawberry patch, fancy straight pins and the most perfect notecard set. WOW -- I'm one lucky gal.

And repentant - I'm late with my own box out but will post photos once she's received it. I hope I make her smile as much as I have been!

This is the way to get the holidays started off right.

What are your favorite colors? red & white

Do you collect anything? Russian nesting dolls, Mary Engelbreit goodness, cherries, aprons, cookbooks, cute bags

Are you allergic to any fibers or animals? I'm allergic to cats, even though we have Ollie (I pay for cuddles)

Do you have any pets? Ollie the tabby cat, and Apollo the great dane/mastiff mix

Coffee, Tea, or Chocolate? I really prefer raspberry iced tea .... no coffee, SOMETIMES tea, milk chocolate is my weakness

What do you like to read? Christian novels, culinary mysteries (Dianne Mott Davidson, etc), crafting magazines, anything my DD is reading (so I read a lot of YA)

Do you prefer Cookies or Candies as a sweet? I love homemade cookies

What is your favorite holiday treat? Starbucks Cranberry Bliss Bars (I have the recipe), Russian Tea Cookies

Describe your favorite holiday tradition. I love our annual Christmas drama at church, going to church as a family, and also driving around to see lights

Did you believe in Santa as a child? No. Sad story ... my parents grew up in the depression and adopted me (and then my brother) later in life. They didn't want me to believe in a lie that hurt them so much when they were younger. Santa didn't visit them and they were always so sad at Christmas. So I never was allowed to believe in Santa. I didn't make the same mistake with my kiddos. Santa is the mystery of Christmas and encourages giving to others with no thought of something in return. It's also why MUST remember to give to others less fortunate, because every child deserves a Merry Christmas, even if their parents cannot provide one.

When do you open presents? Christmas Eve, then Santa gifts and stockings in the AM.

Do you put up a tree and when? If not, how do you celebrate? We usually put up trees in the first weekend of December. Last year, we had four I think .... the kitchen tree is all red ornaments, the entry tree has unbreakables and jingle bells (the dog's tail is a dangerous thing when guests arrive), there's a small white tree in the bathroom, and then the family tree is a HUGE 10-foot rotating tree that is stuffed full of ornaments collected over the years. *sigh* I love Christmas, and my husband is a dear to indulge me. Oh, and they are all artificial because Mike is allergic!

Does your tree have a theme? (see above)

What has been your favorite gift to give? to receive? Oh, I stink at choosing a "favorite" .... why did I write this question? I do love presents that are homemade or a surprise because of the thought that went into it.

I'm kicking it off with the USANA RESET plan, five days of meal replacement shakes, nutrition bars, fruits and veggies. I'm also committing to at least 5-days a week of exercising at least 45 minutes.

On this Monday, I just focused on actually following the plan -- eating every 2.5-3 hours, NOT snacking outside the plan (which is HUGE for me; I'm a mindless grazer), and drinking my 80 ounces of water. I was also nervous about the shakes and bars -- what if they taste like chalk or sawdust?!? (I've heard horror stories from other programs.) Thank goodness, they are actually tasty! The bars even feel like I'm chewing on a candy bar (which may not be good for my mindset that candy is okay but my taste buds were sure happy). It was a little strange not having the same dinner as everyone else, but my shake and bowl of strawberries were yummy.

Other than going to restroom more than usual (sorry, TMI), this first day was surprisingly easy. I know it helped that I hemmed my day in prayer, submitting this entire process to the Lord. And I know my coach, Rhonda Kay Leonard, is praying for me, too.

Keep tuning in and follow my progress. I would love to hear YOUR tips and tricks for staying healthy.

And it's not even snowing or raining or anything; it's partly sunny and 51! I wonder if I'm getting sick? So many people seem to be lately, don't you agree?

I've had such a fun and busy weekend, even though I've been solo. Miss T didn't have school on Friday and her girl scout troop drove to coast for yurt camping. I ended up doing a lot of catch-up since Mike works all weekends and has been hanging with the guys on Saturday night.

Friday night, we spent the evening after dinner making up six trays of Creamy Chicken Enchiladas- I took two small ones with me on Saturday to an all day sewing group and Mike took the other four with him. They are quite yummy, even though they are packed full of processed ingredients! So, I will post my "secret" recipe but don't copy it down if you have a problem using canned cream soup.

Shawnee's Creamy Chicken Enchiladas
(makes a large pan)
1 family-size can Campbell's® Condensed Cream of Chicken Soup or Campbell's® Condensed 98% Fat Free Cream of Chicken Soup
1 (16 ounce) container sour cream
1 small can diced green chiles
1 can diced olives (optional)
2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
4 cups chopped cooked chicken (I usually boil 3 breasts and rough chop)
10 Flour Tortillas, slightly warmed
Bag 'o salad
1 medium tomato, chopped

Directions

Mix soup, sour cream, chiles, olives, and 3/4 of the cheddar. Stir in the chicken.
Spread about 1/4 cup chicken mixture down center of each tortilla. Roll up and place seam-side down in large shallow baking dish (I use a 9x15). Spread any remaining filling on top and sprinkle with remaining cheese. Cover.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 40 minutes or until hot. Top with salad mix and tomato or salsa.

I also got my new phone synched up --- T-mobile invited me to become a "T-Mobilizer" - to review new gadgets for them. I just got the snazzy new HTC Amaze 4G phone. It is Mighty Fine -- so powerful, with a dual-core processor, large screen, crisp images, and a powerful camera.

Saturday, I went to my first quilting event and got so much help from experts! I finished my table runner (late, of course). I stitched in the ditch for the first time, made my own binding with diagonal joins, and learned how to finish the binding in a totally seamless way. It was so cool.

Then, I got several steps closer to finishing my first quilt. In summer 2010, I took a quilting class at church using jelly rolls. I made the most amazing blocks for a top but never finished putting on the borders, backing, etc. Yesterday, I got my top totally done and pieced out the back. I ran out of time before I could put all the pieces together, so that is still so daunting to me but I want. to. do. this. I really want to finish this project so I can look on to gift making with a clear conscience.

I also posted a giveaway for a friend on the Flirty Apron Swap blog -- Lana from Sassy Aprons on Etsy creates the best aprons, adorable and affordable. You should thrown your name in the hat. I'm also trying to be a good steward of The Apronista --- Deanna handed the reins over to me earlier this year and I'm still struggling to find my voice, to be relevant and an interesting site. I've been contacted by several people that want to be highlighted for Christmas shopping, so I decided to put together a Holiday Gift Guide. That's a fun little project -- if YOU would like to get some exposure of your shop, direct sales business or website, check out my info HERE.

Then, Saturday evening, I met with my friend Rhonda Kay. She is going to be coaching me for the next eight weeks on the Healthy Edge program, and I'm starting the USANA Reset program tomorrow. She's going to walk with me on my journey to health. I'm just excited to not GAIN during the holidays! =) Actually, I'm excited about more than that but a little nervous, too. I don't want to fail again. Be sure to check back in if you're curious about my journey.

I volunteered in the nursery this morning but then the girls got back early, so Michelle and Kathy wrapped up without me. Miss T finally made it home, we had lunch and made some cookies, so I'm going to get in some snuggle time. I didn't really use my extra hour this morning, so I'm going to take advantage of that now!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

This smash hit Christian movie is one of the best movies we've seen this year --- we laughed, we cried and I was SO touched. Men are called out and challenged to be the Dads we need them to be, society needs them to be, and God created them to be.

In the movie, the dads signed a Resolution detailing their promises about their role as a Godly father. Dayspring sent me a copy of this 8x10 Resolution Print that I can frame for our home, and they also sell ones that can be personalized -- how cool is that??? They included Cards for Men-10 Premium Card Assortment to be sent out and encourage men.

If you decide to hit the movies, go HERE for your tickets. Here's a link to another great trailer.

Disclosure: I received my print and cards free from Dayspring to review but the opinions expressed are purely my own. And I love them!
text-align: center;">
This year's Women of Faith event was one of my favorites. And that's saying a lot. I've been to WOF maybe 10 or 12 times, usually as a volunteer in some capacity. I've set out programs, sold books for speakers, organized a group of church friend to volunteer with, helped ladies join the WOF Assocation, and, the last four years of so, been a Talent Runner by hanging out backstage and the front row in case the speakers need anything. Ok, that last one is a really fun job. One year, my sweet husband and son even volunteered FOR me so I could attend and bring a friend with the free tickets.,

And every year the speakers and singers really outdo themselves, sharing their hearts and past experiences all in an effort to point us to God and to share that we are not alone. That we are all on this journey together. And that God loves us more than we could possibly image.

Two of my favorites from this weekend were Lisa Welchel and Mandisa.

Lisa spoke about adult friendships and how she struggled to make real friends since her childhood/friendship forming years were atypical due to The Facts of Life and acting, then she went straight into marriage and kid-raising years.

I really connected to that -- NOT the acting part, but the struggle to make friends. I was a shy and awkward youngster, so not a lot of girlfriends in middle and high school. I didn't know the Lord as a child, so no church friends/youth groups either. Then, at 17, I became an unmarried teen mom, got married at 20 and suddenly had three children by the time I was 23! I was too busy to be a good friend and felt very different from all the other ladies anyway. The "sandwich generation" quickly set in and for several years I was overwhelmed with both parenting my children and caring for my ailing parents (who had adopted me in their later years). Momma passed in 1997 from pancreatic cancer, Daddy moved in with us after we moved the family to a new town in a house that would fit us all, we had a surprise baby in 1999 (yeah Miss T), and then Daddy passed in 2001. These past ten years, I've been super busy with my sweet kiddos (only one still at home now), working and volunteering. But not a lot of friends. I still feel really "different" -- most times I feel I don't have much to offer to a friend and never have felt like I measure up. Sad to actually write that out. But I liked what Lisa said --- that the Imperfect gals you know make the safest and best friends. And, if I'm anything, I am definitely Imperfect!!

Then there's Mandisa -- she just performed her heart out, and it was ALL to His Glory. She looked amazing, too, having shed 112 pounds so far. I really want a black fringe dress just like this one! (I risked life and limb to snap this shot, too -- I didn't know we weren't supposed to take pictures while "in the bowl")

THANK YOU, BookSneeze, for sending me two tickets so I could share this event with my readers. What a treat! I got to meet a few other bloggers who were there doing the same thing --- sweet ladies from the coast, and a couple were there for their first time. If you would like to read and review books, check out BookSneeze!

Special thanks, also, to my sweet friend Kathy who came with me and treated us to an overnight in a local hotel. Here we are at dinner at the top floor of our hotel.

Here are some gems from Patsy Clairmont and Andy:

Patsy-
God has designed us with a will that is stronger than our emotions! Your will is stronger than your emotions. Be wise women of the Word.

You need a vacation if you are bringing out the worst rather than the best in others. Get your heart right.

Sarcasm is anger that went underground and came up in a clown suit. (Proverbs 15:1 ... sarcasm has a lot of wrath in it)

You marry his strengths and you go home and live with his weaknesses (and he with you)."

Refuse - replace - repeat (unlovely thoughts).

Minimize my words - if I talk long enough, I will say something we regret.

Andy-
Have you become a person that people want to be around?

Every great thing that happens to you is when you manage to act right when life is not fair.

It's tough to fight an enemy that has a fort built in your head. (holding a grudgew

Forgiveness is a reset button. If something was a mistake, "I'm sorry" works; if it was a choice, an "I'm sorry" won't work and you need to ask for forgiveness.

Come follow along!!! http://www.twitter.com/ShawneeH
