What gives some people the sense of entitlement that makes them think they are better than other people? And why are these people getting away with it?!?

This week while picking up my mother’s prescriptions at our local Wal-Mart, I encountered one of these people. While standing in line waiting my turn, this lady walks up with her cart full of items that she had already purchased, took a look at the line and then stood there. I immediately sensed what was coming. Two pharmacy employees were working to get people taken care of. There was one lady ahead of me and about five people behind me. The lady ahead of me quickly moved up to the counter when the pharmacy employee furthest from Ms Entitlement opened up leaving me next in line. Sure enough, as soon as the pharmacy employee closest to her finished, she pushed her cart in! What the heck?!?

“Seriously?!?”, I said out loud as she jumped in front of the line.

“They called me on my cell..”, Ms. Entitlement’s response.

“So.. The called the rest of us to let us know ours is ready too.. There are lines for a reason..”

No response…

I just let it drop while my blood boiled. Why do some people think they are more important than everyone else? And why do establishments let them get away with it? And of course there were problems with her order so she was still there when I’d finished. Why couldn’t she wait her turn.

When she came up, she considered getting in line but decided against it after seeing how long the line was. I overheard her complaining about the order being messed up because her husbands ice cream was going to melt. Seriously? You buy ice cream knowing you aren’t done and are going to be spending more time in the store?

Don’t get me wrong. I’m a nice guy. If I’d been the only person in line and had she asked if she could jump in because she had ice cream, I wouldn’t have said a word. But looking at the line and consciously deciding to be rude and jump in front of everyone, that is just flat out being rude.

And I blame Wal-Mart as much as I blame her. Granted the girl said she was new, but what is Wal-Mart doing to train their employees? Obviously not much. A simple “Ma’am, I’m sorry but you need to wait in line” was more appropriate than allowing her to jump in front of the line.

At this point, I haven’t done anything. I’ve considered contacting the manager or even complaining to Wal-Mart corporate. What would you do? What would have been your response?

Due to some issues on the old blog, I decided to take it down and rebirth it. I wasn’t as active as I should have been on the old blog anyways. Hopefully some restructuring and perseverance this time will keep this one in check..

Purpose

So what is ShawnIngram.com and who is this Shawn Ingram dude? Answering backwards, I am a photographer, affiliate marketer, and techie geek. I have varied interests ranging from music to movies to nature to cooking to too many other things to name in a short space. This blog is my sounding board for my daily rants and tidbits of wisdom (or insanity depending on how you might look at them)… lol

The Past

While there were a lot of posts on the old blog, I decided not to keep everything. The old blog had a lot of posts that were pulled from sites that I used to run that no longer exist and I didn’t want to restore that old information that would result in broken links. I do plan on putting the old site back up in a sandbox archive where I can go through and review posts that were there. In time I will restore the content that is still relevant.

At any rate, welcome to the new ShawnIngram.com blog. I hope you enjoy the information I share here and enjoy your stay!
