Don’t use too much because it spreads easily and then the glue will on the body of the pearl. The pearl shouldn't be worn until the glue is completely cured.

Today, almost all the pearls in the market are cultured pearls. Freshwater pearls and saltwater pearls are all regarded as cultured pearls. Mabe pearl is a dome-shaped cultured pearl grown on the inner shell of a mollusk. Different from the pearls we often see, mabe pearl is a kind of semi-spherical cultured pearl. It has two sides. One side is flat and the other side is round. The word "mabe" comes from the Amami dialect of the Ryukyuan language in Japan.

Tahitian pearl, a living symbol of purity and perfection, is known as “Queen of Pearls ”. There have been many legends and stories of pearls. Now let’s take a look at the most popular one and experience how pearls are respected and admired in the history.

One day Amry, a diver, went to see the King's jeweler to sell him pearls he had found in the golden waters off Bahrain Island. On this same day, the beautiful Anouba, wife of Calife, halted her porters at the door of a merchant, to whom she showed a wonderful black pearl with a golden orient.

"Can you sell me a similar pearl?" she asked him.

The merchant took the pearl, placed it on a silk cushion and thought about it, his hands crossed on his chest like a worshipping Brahman. But he soon shook his head in a discouraging manner and replied, "There aren't two similar pearls in the world."

Amry, who had moved closer, repeated in a low voice the words of the merchant.

"So," said the beautiful Anouba, "you're not even trying to earn the twenty thousand sequins I'm offering as the prize of this jewel?"

"Princess", said the merchant bowing to the ground, "ask me for emeralds as big as pigeon eggs, arborescent agates, topaz cabochons gleaming like the eyes of a tiger and rubies from Ceylon that give off flames in the night. Your humble servant can place all of these treasures at your feet. But stars will fall like golden rain on the domes of your Palace before he can find a pearl similar to this one."

As he spoke, the Princess looking from behind her veil, Amry held himself leaning against a bamboo post, his eyes staring at the pearl.

"This man is one of your servants?" she asked the merchant.

Amry proudly raised his head and said, "I am Amry, the pearl diver; the son of my mother is free."

"Amry," Anouba said," do you want to earn twenty thousand sequins?"

"Better to ask me if I want to die," the pearl diver replied with a serious voice.

"What do you say?"

"There is," Amry continued, "in two hundred fathoms of water in the bay of Bahrain Island, a coral reef where the old Phangar, the Gulf's most famous diver, found during his youth the black pearl that Prince Mescheb wears embedded in the pommel of his dagger. But Phangar has never returned to this chasm and he turns pale and shivers with terror when his small boat passes over the reef where he found the precious pearl.

"What did he see?" the beautiful Anouba asked with avid curiosity.

"When Phangar, his right foot in the stirrup of the sounding line, gave the signal to his companions, and the lead weight attached to the rope pulled him into the chasm, he went through a layer of emeralds that rumbled and bubbled around him like lava from a volcano. The shock was so violent when the sounding line touched bottom that he fell on his hands and knees. The sharp strips and pointed coral, whose sting burns like red-hot iron, drew blood from a hundred wounds, but he couldn't complain. He had gone to work and already had some twenty shells in his canvas sack when it seemed like the reef was rising near him and a floating mass, grayish like the coral, was slowly moving forward by wriggling its long, pliable branches like vines. One of its branches slid across his naked chest and attached itself there, but Phangar couldn't shout. A giant spider crab floated by two fathoms from his face, shooting a look at him, his eyes a pale green that looked like two bright rays of light.

"Phangar's companions, who remained in the small boat, feeling the calling rope suddenly stiffen, hastened to pull it up. The diver had lost consciousness and he was turned on his side, the signs of the monster's grasp."

"Well," said Calife's wife, "since you know so well where the black pearls are found, you must dive in the Bahrain Golf, kill the monster who guards the treasures and bring me the pearl that I desire, the one I want."

Amry replied: "I have an old, crippled mother who lives only from my work. I am engaged to a woman who is an orphan and whom I love and must protect. What's more, I would be uselessly risking my life to satisfy your desire, since there are no two pearls the same in all of the oceans."

Anouba looked at the diver for a minute from behind the veils of her Yachmack, and then told him, "Come to the Palace tomorrow at five in the morning."

Then she got back into her palanquin.

The next day, Amry dressed in his finest clothes and went to the Calife Palace. A black deaf-mute, who was waiting at the entrance to the gardens, led Amry to the living quarters of the Princess. Anouba, always veiled, was leaning against the cushions of a sofa. She made a sign to the black man, who bowed like an bow and disappeared immediately.

"Approach," the Princess told the diver.

He took two steps forward and bent to the knees.

"You said," repeated Anouba, "that nature cannot create two similar pearls. Look!"

And her arm, covered with jingling bracelets, went around her face, lowering the silky gauze that veiled her.

Amry let out a shout of admiration and remained as motionless as a stone statue. It wasn't with her eyes that the Princess looked at him. It was with two black diamonds embedded in a fairy's face, polished like ivory, whiter, purer than a fleur de lis bathed in the light of the moon. The flash that had dazzled Amry died away little by little, as if it were veiled by a cloud, and he only saw two doe eyes, full of exhilaration and warm fragrance that looked into his heart.

Anouba opened her lips to speak, but Amry extended his arms towards her, murmuring in a broken voice: "I will look for the pearl at the bottom of the Bahrain chasm, and I will leave my blood and my skin on the pointed coral, as I have left my heart and my soul here!"

The next day, at the first sign of dawn, Amry took his small boat and headed to the area where he knew to find the treasure. When it descended to the bottom of the sea, he hurried to fill up his canvas sack with the most beautiful shells. He was preparing to go back up to the surface when he spotted an extraordinarily big oyster in rock crevice. He grabbed hold of it. But at the same time, a monster that he had never before seen until it rushed towards him and, in doing so, tried to suffocate him. Amry fought with all his strength. He felt life slipping away through the many wounds. Finally, with a supreme effort, he managed to free his right hand and plunged his dagger between the two eyes of the gigantic spider crab.

He made the call signal and his companions hurried to bring him up. But when he arrived under the light of day, he had lost so much blood from his eyes, nose and mouth that he fainted and didn't come to until several hours later in the palace of the wife of Calife, where she had him brought.

When he revived, he was surprised to find himself in this unknown place, and especially to see the beautiful Princess alone with him, her face uncovered.

"Well," she said with a melodious voice, "were you successful?"

"Yes," replied Amry, "the monster drank my blood, but I killed him, and here is the treasure that he guarded at the bottom of the ocean." He held out the opened oyster, which held a marvelous pearl even more beautiful than that of Prince Mescheb.

The princess let out a shout of admiration and remained in ecstasy before this incomparable jewel of nature.

"Tell me what you want," she told him. "If you wish, my fortune is yours."

But Amry, bowing at her feet, told her: "Princess, keep your riches. Amry wouldn't know what to do with them. You have taken his heart and soul. The poor diver, who can't hope to have your love, prefers to take his life."

And more rapid than a thought, he plunged his dagger into his heart.

High quality dyed pearls can be quite beautiful. When you first start looking at pearls, maybe it is hard for you to realize that black was a dyed color in freshwater or Akoya. There are some ugly dyed pearls too. Some dyed black pearls that have a sooty look. They will remind us of home-dyed hair, which is a kind of over-colored and unnatural. Therefore, a lot of people are faced with the question how to tell dyed pearls.

Let’s get to know how pearls are dyed firstly. Generally speaking, infiltration is the common method of dyeing pearls. Dyestuff is penetrated into the pearl surface through infiltration. Freshwater pearls can be dyed easily in a short time (few hours or few days) because of the soft nacre. While South Sea pearls need much more time (one or two months) and are very costly to be dyed. Due to the compact nacre, it requires a strong light to accelerate the penetration and uniform distribution of dye, which is so called "laser dye," "radiation stain" or "roast color". Currently, the method can only be found in the South Sea pearls. And some golden South Sea pearls are dyed and even look more beautiful than natural golden ones. In other words, dyed golden South Sea pearls have metallic fluorescence which will make the golden color deeper because of long-term exposure of glaring light. As for Tahitian pearls, it has high failure rate in dyeing them and also extremely expensive. Therefore, people hardly find dyed Tahitian pearls in the market.

You may want to know some skills in distinguishing the dyed pearls and natural color pearls. Well, it is not difficult if the right methods are taken.

There are some tests Shecy can provide to help:

- Price test

Some types of true color pearls are typically expensive, e.g. Tahitian pearl, Golden South Sea pearl, Akoya pearl with Rose overtone (Hanadama pearl). If the price is unbelievably low and the merchant doesn't own a special reason for this price. The pearls are probably treated.

- Size test

If a pearl's diameter is smaller than 9mm, and is marked as Tahitian pearl or Golden South Sea pearl, that must be false color. For almost all Tahitian and South Sea pearl, expect for their Keshi pearls, are larger than 9mm. Akoya oysters, on the other hand, can only produce a wide range of pearls below 9mm.

- Drilled-hole test

Look at the drilled hole of a pearl. If the nucleus looks dark and nacre inside looks white, the pearl is dyed. The other clue that indicates dyed pearl is dye concentrating around the drill hole or on some spot of pearl surface.

- Color test

Observe the pearl color carefully. Any of the following clues would indicate whether the pearl is dyed or not.

Anyway, dyed pearls are not fakes, but people can get them much easier than pearls of natural color. They fulfill people's desire of special fashion in different occasions while cost less. A number of Thanksgiving years run through my mind as I recall my youth, yet whenever I see a Christmas card with a sleigh on the cover, it brings back a vivid picture of that day with my grandparents and loved ones. l always be grateful that God allowed Grandma to share that last Thanksgiving with us and for the memory of the family sleigh ride, with the bells ringing and the horses that took us through a glistening white blanket of snow.
Thanksgiving Day is also the 45th wedding anniversary of Grandma and Grandpa. Years have gone with endless sweet and bitterness .Grandpa loves Grandma without uttering the three words I love you. However, I know that they love each other more deeply than the couples who did.
My grandfather had been in good spirits and happy to have his family around. It was fun to talk with him, because he had so much history to share about his olden days. But after the food had been prepared, and the turkey was roasting in the oven, Grandpa gathered us all around and said he had a surprise. We knew most every inch of the old house, and could not imagine what the surprise could be, or if something was hidden! But soon we heard the sound of bells. Grandpa told us to get our warm coats, hats and mittens on and everyone was to gather on the front porch.
Grandma would bring in dishes of sweet, sweet, sticky candy, or a great bowl of grapes or peaches, and would converse gravely about happenings on the farm, and, more rarely, of the outer world.
She never embraced us. She would greet us and take out hot little hands in her own beautiful cool one, with blue veins standing out on the back of it, as though the white skin were almost too delicate to contain them.
• When we ask Grandma to tell about the love story, there was a curious little smile pursing her mouth. She took a dedicated box from cabinet with a pair of callous hands. Then, she slowly opens the red –wrapped box. These pearls have a beautiful luster to exhibit an iridescent shimmer of colors. Grandma continues this is the first gift that Grandpa gave her. Its brand is shecy. I was delight to help Grandma put on this necklace. Grandma looks younger as her maiden. Pearl definitely makes female looks more elegant. Some one (I can not remember who she is accurately) once said that every woman should hold at least one pearl necklace. She said that a pearl necklace is symbol of status. Yes, to our female, most of the time a pearl necklace is not only symbol of status ,but a symbol of woman ,a symbol of mother.

Pearl in Emerson's Poetry

This high atmosphere of precious supremacy and reverence, which surrounds the gem now as it has for more than twenty centuries, is a legacy of Rome. The east loved pearls as beautiful and precious trinkets; while Rome gave to them imperial honors and drew around them the mystic circle of patrician favor. And since that day, in every land where an aristo¬cracy existed or came into existence, pearls have been the familiars of the exclusive.

This natural fitness of the gem for refined associations is recognized by Emerson in his Friendship，He says:

Thou foolish Hafiz! Say! Do churls know the worth of Oman's pearls? Give the gem which dims the moon to the noblest, or to none.

It is a late echo of the scriptural saying, "Cast not your pearls before swine." No modern poet shows more knowledge of the nature, or a more just appreciation of the delicate beauty of the gem than Emerson. In his "May Day," speaking of the tardiness of the spring, he writes: "Slow grows the palm, too slow the pearl."

Evidently he knew of the slow process by which the successive coats of filmy nacre increase the size of the growing gem. Likewise a couplet in "Nature " betrays the poet's obser¬vation of the iridescent nature of the colors in mother-of-pearl, and in the gem occasionally when those fleeting tints are added to the beauty of its luster; the lines are a dainty illustration:

Illusions like the tints of pearl, Or changing colors of the sky.

In all countries where woman has been enthroned in the respect as well as the affections of man, the pearl has been inseparably connected with her. The pearl as a peculiarly fitting accompaniment to feminine loveliness is deeply rooted.

In the romantic dreams of youth, which hide betimes the harsh realism of life under a golden haze of imagery; where belted knights and fair ladies live and move unfettered, and all the impossible delights of sweet desire free from untoward consequences are reasonable; where invincible swords have no thought of the horrors of carnage, and unimpeded love is without cold calculation or following of sorrow, pearls everywhere shimmer. And when in his exalted moods man paints the shadow picture of the goddess of his life, he finds one gem alone befitting with which to deck her, namely, the pearl. This has come to pass probably because the ideal qualities of woman and the sea gem are alike, purity and modesty. The beauty of the most lustrous pearl is unobtrusive and its quality is virginal. In our visions of the spectral past, the shades of the consorts of the mighty all wear them.

Pearls hang pendent from the ears of Egypt's voluptuous queens, and Rome's proud matrons. Pearls clasp the dainty flesh of Moslem hour is and rest in the soft folds of draperies that cling about those daughters of the Orient, the com¬mon mortals of their day might not look upon. Great pearls hang festooned and pendent round the necks of lightly draped Diana of the warm south lands, and coiled about the brown arms of the daughters of the chiefs in far-off islands of the South Seas.

Upon reclining figures in the ancient palaces of Persia and Arab tents: wherever the proud women of the conquering Occident move in

stately measure across the high terraces of noble placement: in all dreams of fair women and brave men, are swords and pearls. And this is so because in all the ages, women of high position have loved pearls and writers have told it. In our old world so far, neither earth nor sea has yielded ought to else so fit to lie in the bosom of woman, or to symbolize her character and beauty, as the chaste and dainty pearl.
