If you are after a smaller one for your garden our friends over at Taylors Garden Buildings have two types of shed observatory they make.

The trumpet of truth reports.

VISITORS to an historic house and gardens will soon be seeing stars after plans were approved for an astronomical observatory.

But if you’re concerned that the new building will overshadow the delights of Dyffryn Gardens, have no fear.

The proposal is for a structure that looks like a glorified garden shed – albeit one with a sliding roof.

Despite appearances, Cardiff Astronomical Society says the new observatory has everything needed for studying the wonders of the heavens.

It is part of an education programme at Dyffryn Gardens aiming to attract more visitors to the St Nicholas venue.

The main enclosed part of the observatory will include an observing area with a telescope and a computer room.

Grahame Carter, observatory project manager for Cardiff Astronomical Society, said: “Having lost its observatory in the 1970s, the society has been looking to locate a new observatory in a suitable location.

Before the advent of artificial fertilizers, distant pastures on many mixed Farms would be inaccessible the to the large farm manure wagons bringing manure from the Farm yard. These would have had a visit from the Shepherd and his flock of Sheep. The Sheep were not allowed to wander freely but were kept enclosed behind wooden hurdles. This process was called ‘folding’. Once the forage crop had been grazed, the Sheep, Shepherd, his dog and mobile home; his Shepherds Hut, would move to pastures new. The land would then be ploughed, returning the nutrients in the droppings to the land. The Hut contained a small stove, a straw bed over a cage where lambs could be kept (known as a Lamb rack) and a simple medicine cupboard containing various potions. This regularly included a bottle of Whisky to revive a sickly lamb (or Shepherd).

Our shed is in our back garden and it is our business. It is a large summerhouse with 4 windows down one side and a stable door, we also have a 2ft veranda. Our shed is called The Small Animal Hotelwe look after peoples small animals while they are away on holiday. We cater for small animals such as rabbits, guinea-pigs, hamsters, rats, birds, lizards etc. The hotel is fully heated and air conditioned, we have a radio on during the day for all the guests to listen to. We have 24 spaces available for small animals and there is an option to have a run attached to each hutch. We have photographs of all the animals that have stayed with us up on the walls inside.

One of the revelations to emerge, albeit rather obliquely, from the MPs’ expenses shenanigans is that Gordon Brown is a shedworker. The PM decided to pay back £500 he had claimed on expenses for painting his summer house (pictured above – we can’t quite see if he has a MacBook Pro in there) as he believed it could be “questionable”. But here’s the key part: a spokesman for Brown said the summerhouse was actually more “a building in his garden” which he used as a home office rather than a traditional summer house.

Could you clarify the ruling on the drinking within a pub shed, every first Wednesday in the month I have approx 20 friends around and we have a royal time!

Every one contributes £10, this covers the beer and we also lay on a curry. I have been warned by a friend that this is maybe breaking the law as it could be said that I am selling the beer and food.

He advised me to put up a sign saying “all drinks are free, donations are greatly received” and this covers me legally?

This is a very informal drinks night, no profit is made but my concern is that the local pubs may take the hump and report to who ever, have you had any dealings or similar questions from other pubshed owners

Any help?

THIS weatherboard box could be Victoria’s most expensive real estate. A pair of young families yesterday paid $455,000 (£251,214) for the 22-square-metre boat shed at auction because they wanted a place to store their beach gear.

Auctioneer Warwick Anderson said the sale of Boat Shed 21 on Shelley Beach in Portsea eclipsed the previous record of $362,000 two years ago.

”The new buyers both have houses off the cliff, out the back of Portsea,” he said. ”They were sick of lugging all their stuff up and down the beach.”
