We tromped around in the mud, and had a miraculous little rain break that ended just as we headed out. And it becomes more and more clear that the slow and quiet life in the country is the life for our dear, Sam. Someday I hope we can make that come true!

It is truly epic.
I met them in person for the first time at a little coffee shop on a rainy Portland day Thanksgiving weekend 2015. As with any meeting of people you’ve known only on the internet, I was full of nervous butterflies. Would the same connection exist in person as we had found through words and photos on the screen??? As soon as we met those fears subsided, as I was completely awash in the wonder of witnessing their big, effervescent love. It had the giddiness and rightness that reminded me a lot of when I fell fast and madly in love with Rob. It felt electric and warm and made me smile big.

Their love story is no ordinary love story. It is like a wonderful ride – magical, fast moving with lots of turns and twists. You can read more about it in this wonderful blog post over on Yes and Yes. At the time of our photo session, Nick & Anna were newly engaged and gearing up for Anna to make a big move with her daughter to Canada to become one big family with Nick and his 4 kiddos.

Also at the time of our session, Nick was living as a woman. It feels tender to bring this detail into this story because honestly this session had nothing to do with gender and everything to do with LOVE and lust and spirit and connection and joy. But after chatting a bit with Nick I decided to talk about it. Because, in his words “I feel like most things in my life are about gender. I’m cool with that. The way the world feels right now, telling my story, showing people love, its all I can do. Its how I can make a difference.” And I agree… the world needs to see Trans people living and loving. Love is love is love is love, my friends. And wish for each and every one of us to feel the kind of passionate connection that these two have at some point in our lives!

Happy April! We took a trip out to the Coast for an afternoon over Spring Break… we arrived at the perfect time for an hour or so of a break in the rain. It started pouring just as we got back to the car. Hopped over a few towns and had fish and chips at one of our favorite spots, and then drove home. Sometimes it just takes some fresh ocean air and a pretty drive to reset your perspective a bit.

Portland rarely gets snow. The last time we had a significant snow storm that stuck was back in 2008. So when we got several inches of snow last weekend, it was a novelty! The city more or less shuts down, as we just don’t get enough snow to have all of the equipment needed to deal with it… so everyone is snowed in more or less. We embraced the hell out of it, and had a marvelous family time. And man, was it a beautiful change of scenery!

Now the snow is covered in a layer of slippery, crunchy ice, and it is slowly melting away. Thank goodness because 3 days was just right.

Its been awhile!

I was delightedly invited to join a most awesome group of photographers for a 10-on-10 project for this year.  I am notoriously awful at projects… when I think of doing a 365 photo project I feel a panic attack coming on. Last year I attempted the Sundays weekly project, and that was just too REGULAR for me. I found myself not always in the mood to take photos of my own life every Sunday! But this one, 10 frames to tell a story from my every day life once a month, sounds JUST RIGHT! And when I saw who the fellow photogs who are participating in this blog circle were, I could not say anything but YES! YES! YES!

The past couple of weeks have been funky. After a quick after Christmas jaunt up to Seattle to see friends, my whole family got sick with a cold/flu. Then just as we were all on the mend and the kids went back to school, Rob had surgery to have his tonsils removed this past Tuesday. No one has felt much like being photographed, but I managed to grab a few shots over the past couple of days that tell the story of how the beginning of 2014 has looked.
