Better late than not at all. It's been hectic nearing the end of 2011 and for some reason, January is even busier than December was. I'm excited to see what 2012 will bring. This weekend was my first day back to school (yes, again) for part-time studies. "The best investment is in yourself." Wise words of encouragement, especially when you have to make sacrifices for the future. To sum up 2011, it was a year of growth. I wouldn't say it was a light-hearted year, but it was definitely rewarding. The reward comes from the confidence and realization of who I am and how true I can stay to myself and those around me. It's always been an ongoing goal to better myself and I'm more than happy to say that that's exactly where I'm headed. There's just no stopping me.

ZARA FUR VEST & NINE WEST BOOTS

No white Christmas in Vancouver but it has been quite cold. Which gives me the perfect excuse to throw on something warm and flawlessly soft. This vest is so fluffy that you'd want to hug me for as long as I'd let you. One thing I wish I could change is the size of the hood - I prefer hoods that are big enough to hide my vision. But the softness sure makes up for it. Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

On a completely random note, the boyfriend & I went to Fat Burger tonight and I had their Maui Wowie Shake and it's freaking delicious. A must try for the banana cream lover.

REVIEW: Hana Titanium Flat Iron

You know how the saying goes, "You don't know what you've been missing until it arrives." That is exactly how I feel about the Hana Titanium Flat Iron. I must've own at least five flat irons and this one definitely stands out from the rest. All my previous irons have 1" plates, whereas the Hana Titanium have 1.5" plates. It's a given - the bigger the plates, the faster your hair gets straightened. I dunno about you, but I'm always rushing out the door. The size of the plates is one thing, what completely won me over is how smooth it feels when I glide the plates through my hair. Cheap straighteners always pull and snag.

Additional awesomeness: Heats up in seconds, long 8ft swivel cord, my hair's not overheated after I run the iron through, comes with a free heat pad (handy for my absentminded self; sometimes I forget to unplug my straightener and will come home thanking my lucky stars I didn't burn my house down), adjustable heat goes up to 450°F but 230°F is plenty for my hair type (which reminds me, I still want to try the Moroccan Oil Light Oil Treatment).

A couple downfalls: Because the plates are bigger, it can be harder to clamp hair that's close to your scalp. It is also on the higher end of flat irons, but if your hair is thin & over processed like mine, then this is worth investing in. It also doesn't hurt that it has a 2 year warranty.

Thanks to Brian at Misikko for sending me the iron and other goodies! Didn't take me long to be convinced that HANA irons are the real deal. Heard they just came out with a hair dyer - ahh, you know what that means...

REVIEW: Sudocrem

I have a bad beauty habit. I can't help it. I like to pop my pimples. Anything that's foreign to my face, needs to go. But I should know better... Good thing I was introduced to Sudocrem! Although its primary use is for diaper rash, it's also an antiseptic cream that's gentle and versatile for other skin conditions, such as acne.

I'm always skeptical of products that claim to work on popped pimples. My skin likes to take its sweet time before it heals. I have used products that help dry out spots, but they'll remain red and inflamed. I noticed Sudocrem targets both concerns and now I'm hooked. Every time a bump appears, I'll spot treat it and what may take a week to heal will heal in a few days. It also takes very little product to cover all problem areas. Did I mention that it's dirt cheap (approximately $10) and you can find it in the baby aisle at most drug stores. Oh, I also use it on minor cuts and scrapes.

The one thing that puts me off a little is it's very tacky and smells kinda minty. Definitely not something that can be worn as a day cream. It leaves a white residue so you'll have to rub it in or let your skin absorb it overnight. Because the consistency is quite thick, I would not recommend applying this all over your face.

The boyfriend and I attended a friend's wedding recently, where there were plenty of dessert and dancing. There were a few embarrassing moments like when I caught the bouquet and when a male friend impressively drunk danced to Bieber. I'm looking forward to him being a part of the entertainment when my man and I get hitched.

I'm relieved that I chose this outfit because it is by far the most comfortable dress I've worn to a formal event. I love that it is conservative yet playful. There's fabric underneath that forms a tube dress while the top & bottom is sheer, with a lacey, spiderweb detailing, so you can still show off a little bit of skin. I can't wait to wear it again. And that's definitely something I don't say often.

FREE PEOPLE PLEATED SKIRT

This skirt is seriously sheer. Despite the layer underneath that I suppose is there to hide your undies, it just doesn't do the job. But oh, does it flow. I love the frayed edges and the shade of pink reminds me of my ballerina days. If I'm feeling extra girly, then this is something I'll go straight to. All it makes me want to do is twirl & twirl & twirl.

Long overdue are the pictures from my birthday. If you follow me on twitter, then you may know that I decided to jump out of a plane to celebrate. A handful of my peeps came along to risk their lives with me. It was such a rush. Everything happened super fast. Suited up. Nerves on the plane ride. Doors opened. Fell from the sky. Suspended and mesmerized from a bird's eye view. Landed with grace - as my boyfriend puts it - just like Mary Poppins. We took it easy for the rest of the evening, where everyone met up and had seafood for dinner. Another year. Another birthday. Always happy.

This here was my outfit for my 27th birthday dinner. I've been eyeing elastic bands that give the effect of a "caged" skirt, but they're quite pricey, so when I stumbled upon this floral number, I didn't think twice. Originally I was thinking of a maxi dress but because we were by the water and it was chilly that night, I had to resort to a top that kept me warm. My legs? They're not afraid of the cold.

Over the long weekend, I caught up with my cousin over a plate of haida gwaii halibut at Blue Canoe. Wandered around the Aquarium & shopped in Downtown with my bestie, where I finally found a pair of rusty trousers after months of looking. Supported the Vancouver Pride Festival and ended the weekend sunbathing in the backyard with my man. Now every weekend has to live up to this one.

It's my birthday month so it's only right that I bought myself a pair of JC Rumble Boots. The only annoyance was the Canada Post strike that delayed my present. I was afraid it will never get to me. But when it did, it was worth the wait. I love the contrast of the black suede & the wooden heel. And it fits nicely around my tiny ankles. Very tempted to buy another pair in taupe... but I promised myself that I won't. Pinky swear.

Been working hard on the weekdays and playing harder on the weekends. The weather have not been warm, but it doesn't stop us from making the most of it. We spent some time at the lake for my man's bday. Almost got lost looking for the campsite. Managed to fit five grown men in a tent. Bug swatting. Dock chilling. Duckling spotting. Marshmallow roasting. Highlight of the trip: witnessing our friend jump in the lake to fetch the floaty boat & football in his holey underwear. Good times.

Here are a few of my (favourite) recent purchases for spring/summer:

Banana Republic Shawn Aviators - Since my mom borrowed and "forgot to return" my Gucci sunglasses, it gave me good reason to finally get my hands on a pair of inexpensive aviators. These will do temporary until I find something that's more durable and will cover half my face.

Michael Kors Jet Set Crossbody Leather Bag - I've always had a liking for the color yellow cause it brightens up my mood (and outfits) so I simply could not take my eyes off this little number. The only problem is fitting my keys in there without me being skeptical that it will scratch my phone - guess that goes with all tiny purses.

F21 Textured Button Top - I really enjoy wearing linen feeling clothes - the fabric is breathable and feels nice against the skin. The detailing of the blouse, where it ruches at the bust made me grab this quickly off the rack. This long weekend's weather may be perfect enough to pair this with shorts and maybe a hat!

Aldo Zain Flats - A definite staple in every woman's closet. These babies are made with soft leather and are incredibly comfortable. Try a pair on and you won't want to leave the store without handing over plastic. Wish they came in more colors. I currently own at least three pairs of cognac flats... must learn to resist such a beautiful neutral color.

My wavy hair made me nutty until the day I learned to embrace it. When you work with what you've got, you'll eventually learn to turn your "flaws" into something that makes you feel unique and beautiful. Recently I added more layers to my hair, so it's shorter than what I'm used to. While I'm waiting for it to grow out, I've been sporting my natural waves cause it's absolutely effortless. To achieve this look, make sure your hair is damp. Comb knots through with a brush. Spray hair with a product that contains sea salt, then diffuse or let air dry. I recommend Bumble and Bumble's Surf Spray, Garnier Wonder Waves Wave-Enhancing Spray, KMS California Hair Play Sea Salt Spray or Sachajuan Ocean Mist. The wavier your hair is to begin with, the wavier the results. Sea salt is damaging and dries out your hair, so please don't be tempted to do this on the daily. I would also highly recommend a leave-in conditioner or hair masks. Hope this will help bring out your natural waves and if they're nonexistent, there are always hot irons and oldschool braids!

Before my friend Tiff left my place tonight, she also left with a list full of my recommended beauty products. Which in turn inspired me to share my recent loves. Y'all know I'm always on the hunt for volumizing hair products. I'm skeptical for the most part but Living Proof Full Thickening Cream (1) seems to be compatible for my locks and it's an added bonus that a little goes a long way. When I tired NARS Lip Lacquer in Eros (2), I was very surprised that the color turned out nicely even though it's more on the cool/purple side. I know a lot of women don't like sticking their fingers into products, but I have no problem with that cause I use Vaseline in the jar form religiously. Buxom Lips (3) in any color is THE gloss. I'm head over heels because it gives you a tingly sensation and it comes in a giant tube. I'm using a sample of the Buxom Lash (4). There's something about the wand that helps me reach my outer lashes easily and it goes on rich black. My current favorite nail color is Sephora by OPI Traffic Stopper Copper (5). A beautiful glitter that is a bitch to take off, but you can't take your eyes off it. Neither can anyone else.

Work has been nutty, but a busy schedule keeps this workaholic happy. On my down time, I've been catching up with Fringe - I love the cast, especially Anna Torv - she is simply gorgeous. Been watching a LOT of reality tv - The Bachelor (go Emily!), Say Yes To The Dress, DC Cupcakes, Holly's World, Kourtney & Kim Take New York - just to name a few. To balance out mind-numbing entertainment, I resort to a good book. Just finished Chris Cleave's Little Bee - it's beautifully written & extremely humbling. I've also been "working out" to Kinect's The Biggest Loser: Ultimate Workout and Dance Central. All that goes down the drain with my obsession with Starbucks' Marshmallow Dreambar. Since I'm blogging about it, I might as well get one...
