We get almost 1,000,000 page views a year on shootingsquirrels.com, it kind of makes me wonder how many people we’ve sent to other Youtube squirrel videos from this site, since we post quite a few from other people too. You’re probably wondering why I’m wondering this…. Or Not.

Well, the reason is because I’m looking for a new title for myself, like “Squirrel Video King” or the “Squirrel Splatter King” or just “That Weird Ass Guy Who Films Dead Squirrels”…

What do you guys think? (Or should I just start taking my Meds again and forget about it?)

Those of us who shoot squirrels on a regular basis know that if you get a perfect head shot, and take out the brain, (what little there is), the autonomic reflexes in the squirrel make it flop all over the place, and we call that trouting. It looks like a Marlin tail walking across the bay. LOL

So, obviously I’m so good that even when I’m not paying attention, I can get a brain shot on a squirrel with my truck. Dang I’m good! They don’t call me Squirrel Sniper for nothing… (OK, Yea, I named myself Squirrel Sniper… So What.)

Monroe is running their ad campaign on a site called SavingSquirrels.com, I wonder if we should sue the people over at Monroe shocks and struts… Doesn’t SavingSquirrels.com sound a lot like ShootingSquirrels.com?

The people at Monroe put a frogger-like game on their site. The object of the game is to get your squirrel across the road while picking up all the nuts. You can also pick up shocks and struts to stop the traffic and get extra points… I think. If you want to play, wander over to the Squirrel Frogger Game Page at SavingSquirrels.com. It’s all I can do not to run the squirrel under the tires of the monster truck. The game makes me “Conflicted”, I want to win, but I don’t want to help the squirrel. LOL

Of course, you still can’t shoot squirrels out the window while driving down the road, but now, if you see one, you can get into action faster than if you had to stop and dig it out of your trunk…

I’m using a new piece of software, that lets you turn Sony Handycam videos into AVI’s. It’s free, and lets you make videos up to 5 minutes long, so we’ll see what happens….

The reason I’m ranting, is because some lice infested, flea ridden, tofu licken whiner, got AlaskaShooter’s squirrel shooting video pulled off of StupidTube, or ID-10-TangoTube, or whatever it’s called, for hurting little fuzzy animals. Seriously, you would think that they would be thanking us for whacking the vermin, instead of whining about it. It’s like having a bunch of little kids who don’t appreciate what you do for them. We spend our time and money making sure that they can get double soy latte’s and tofu burgers. And they spend their time trying to shut us down…. Ingrates!

I suppose it’s a catch 22 situation. If we quit shooting squirrels, the price of soy products go up, and they have to spend more time working to pay for their Vegan lifestyle. Then they wouldn’t have as much free time to hassle us. (But of course, then they wouldn’t have any reason to hassle us….)

I guess I’ll quit ranting, before it starts to sound like I’m whining.

So, in the last week, both the main site and the forums have been fixed by professionals from Guru.com. They fixed the spam signup problem in the forums, and set it up so that people can now sign up and start posting again, so get over to the Squirrel Hunting Forums and sign up if you’re not a member yet.

I will also start posting to the main site again, starting with something I wrote last week when AlaskaShooter’s video got pulled off of idiottube.com.

The demo has most of the info you need to figure out how to accuratly figure distance and wind, and how to dial in your scope for each shot, based on those calculations. At first it’s pretty hard, but once you figure out that all the math info you need is located under the help button, it just comes down to your guestimation of where the target fits in your mil dots, and dialing the scope in with those numbers. Of course, when your shooting at 1600 yards, being off by an inch at 100 yards, means you missed the dang target by almost a foot and a half.

Spend some time playing with their demo, and if you like it, buy it. Then come back to the forums and tell us how much better you’re long range shooting is. (On that note, Verminator vaporized a squirrel at 330 yards when we were in Unity two weeks ago. Those squirrels don’t have a 3.3″ circle anywhere on their bodies, which means he was shooting sub minute of angle. The squirrel was ranged, followed by one-shot-one-kill. Cool!)

I need to find out where this is so I can go there. All of this footage was shot in 2 days.

The Oakes Ranch is in Ironside, Oregon, and is a mile or two north of Highway 26, about 28 miles east of Unity. Their phone number is 541-446-3557, or 541-889-2302, for anyone who needs directions or has questions about the event.

This is the second time that the Oakes have done this in the last couple of years. Both times have been to benefit granddaughters who are in 4H and have been trying to raise the $4,000.00 it takes to pay for their Student Agricultural Exchange trips to Australia.

Lunch will be available, and, according to Mrs. Oakes, it’ll be pulled pork or BBQ Pork sandwiches, plus a bunch of other stuff. If you want to know for sure, give them a call. Here is a list of the events that are planned for Sunday, and it looks like a ton of fun. All the events have prizes, plus there is a grand prize of $100.00.

• Rim Fire Egg Shoot: 5 shots at an egg suspended by a string at 50 and 100 yards off hand. This is a rim fire event made for you guys who have .17HMR’s, and still have ammo left after the squirrel shoot on Saturday. The price to enter the competition is $5, and you can enter twice if you need to. (Of course, that means you suck, but hey.)
• Long Rang Rifle: 5 shots at a deck of playing cards at a distance of between 200 and 300 yards. (You can shoot from prone using a bipod or rucksack rest only.) The best poker hand wins…
• Long Range Steel Target: 5 shots at steel targets in the 200 to 300 yard range. You can enter the long range shoots for $10, twice.
• Sporting Clays: 36 clay birds and/or rabbits for a $15 entry fee.
• Pistol Shoot: 5 shots at 10-25 yards. You can enter for $5 and do it twice if you have to…
• There is a discount for multiple entries!
• And Finally, there is going to be a .50 caliber shoot too, but you will need to call them on the particulars.
• It was also mentioned, that there might be some squirrels to shoot, but you will need to call and ask about that too…

All of you guys who are going to the Unity Squirrel Roundup need to show up for this, have some fun, and spend some money for a good cause. If your willing to spend $75 per hunter to shoot squirrels where the prizes suck, you might as well spend some money to help out some kids.

I was supposed to meet the Verminator and some new meat in Unity at noon on Saturday to go shooting, but nothing went right, and I ended up not getting into Unity till around 1pm. I went to the bar, ate a burger and tots and waited for them to come and find me. They showed up around 2:30 and told me that they had only dropped like 60 rats in the last 2 days.

Well, 2 days and 60 rats sucks, so I told them to go ahead and head back to the ranch they were shooting, and I would try to line something good up for the next day. This of course entails driving a bunch of gravel roads and knocking on doors, but that doesn’t usually bother me too much, since it’s for a good cause. The only drawback was that I was driving my truck, which has Washington plates, which makes them think I’m some damn Seattle city slicker instead of the good-ol-boy that I am. (In the past I’ve actually borrowed my Dad’s truck with Oregon plates…)

I drove into Ironside and headed down the first gravel road on my left. I knew that I could hit up the first ranch, because I’d shot squirrels there before, but they hadn’t been that good, so I drove on. I ended up stopping at the Oakes place, at least that’s what I think the name was, but it could have been Doaks or Oaks; I suck with names.

The short version is that they have a killer view over thousands of acres of grass, but they are a Century Ranch, which means that they have been around for over 100 years, and have tons of friends and relatives who like to shoot squirrels, so the answer was no. But, read the next post, because they have some fun stuff going on next weekend as far as shooting and squirrels go. (By the way, the Unity Squirrel Roundup is next Saturday…)

I then wandered Northeast for a few miles until I came to some road signs. By then, I was afraid I would spend the rest of my life on gravel roads in Oregon, so I followed the sign pointing me back to highway 26. As I got to the highway, there was a pickup coming down the road, so I waived the guy over and asked him if he knew where I could shoot some squirrels. He told me to follow him, and took me to meet his boss.

I’d tell you his name and all, but I’m still debating it in my head whether to tell anyone or not where it’s located. (When you shoot 86 squirrels in less than an hour and a half, it’s not human nature to want to share that location with others.) The ranch owner did tell me though, that he was interested in having shooters come out for around $35 a day, so you may get your chance yet. I’ll let you know…

The ranch is 2600 acres of hay, watered by those huge center pivots, so you know that it’s prime squirrel land. As a matter of fact, it’s where the winners of the 2007 Unity Squirrel Roundup were shooting when they took 1st place. According to the owner, that group of 6 shooters only picked up squirrels till 1pm, instead of 4pm, because they knew they had already won and were tired of picking up squirrels. They won with 992 dead squirrels, which comes out to 33 squirrels shot per shooter, for 5 straight hours, and that includes the time they took to pick them up. (When was the last time you shot 1 squirrel every 2 minutes for 5 hours straight?)
