What to Wear: First Date

First dates can be a little scary, but a great way to build your confidence is to build the perfect outfit. You want to mix feminine pieces with masculine, and also keep your look very natural and pretty.

A floral dress is a great piece to start with. You can dress it up by adding a leather jacket, or dress it down by putting on a chambray shirt and tying the front. Add a cute studded clutch, and a chunky bu

Jeans are a good option as well. Make sure they are dark and slim. DL1961 Kate Straight Leg Jeans have great lines, they are slimming on everyone, and the plus is they don’t stretch out. A flowy top like the Renee C Racerback tank is a great classic, that you can add any accessory to.
Wedges are a must for a first date. They are easier to walk in than a pump, and they give your legs a nice long look. Try the Dolce Vita cut-out wedge in nude. This color will go with any outfit you choose.

Keep your hair and makeup natural. You want to look like yourself, so wear natural lipstick/gloss. The best option is one shade darker than your natural color. Run a curling iron through your hair for the natural wave look.
Try and stay away from super trendy looks. Most guys don’t appreciate trends like we fashionistas do. Save those looks for a night out on the town with the girls. Also, keep your lines slim; try to keep away from overly baggy looks, and show off that wonderful figure.

When in doubt, going the conservative route is always the best. You want to keep that boy intrigued, so don’t show off all your best assets on the first date. If you are showing off your legs in a cute dress, cover up on top, and visa versa.

Keep it simple, but have fun by adding accessories to your outfit. Remember confidence and a smile are the best accessories that you can have!

Coming Summer ’12 to Masons: Superga Shoes

Halle Berry. Roberto Cavalli. Princess Diana. Katie Holmes. Brad Pitt. All of these people have more in common than fame and fortune. They have all owned a pair of Supergas; a trend that has been around for more than 75 years, these sneakers have defined what comfortable fashion shoes have become.

Founded in Italy in 1911 by Walter Martiny, Superga has become known as a luxury tennis shoe. The Superga 2750 was created in 1925 with a vulcanized rubber sole. The vulcanized sole helps keep the shoe sturdy and in good shape over a number of years. This process is stilled used today.

Italians have been wearing the brand for weekends out on the beach, and even dressing the shoes up for a night out on the town. For the past 30 years Superga has been the favorite sneaker of the Europeans.

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen have recently became the co-creative directors for the brand, and have brought the luxury sneaker line to the forefront of American fashion.

Wedding Season Outfits

Ding, dong goes the wedding bells. Yes, folks wedding season is upon us once again.
Dressing for a wedding can be just as stressful as planning what to wear to your own wedding. But have no fear! Just follow a few simple rules, and you will look stunning and classic.

A wedding is not the place to try out the newest trends, it is about keeping it simple and classy. You don’t want to upstage the bride by wearing some crazy outfit, and becoming the center of attention, and most likely it will be bad attention that you receive.

For day weddings, stick to a fun floral dress, or a skirt and sweater set. Put on a pair of peep-toe flats, or slingback heels. Hats are acceptable at day weddings, and have become very popular since Kate and Will’s wedding last April. So tap into your English style, and find a cute hat.

For evening weddings, you should dress as if you were going to the theater or to a very nice dinner. Cocktail dresses are the go-to look. Try to stay away from sequins and heavy-beading. You are attending a wedding, not a show in Vegas….unless the wedding is in Vegas, then have at it! Black is acceptable at evening weddings, but add a bright necklace and some fun shoes, so it doesn’t look like you are going to a funeral.

Every now and then, we receive an invitation to a black tie wedding. This is your chance to break out that floor-length flowy chiffon dress, beaded clutch and formal jewelry. Bring a fancy wrap for cooler nights and those heavily air-conditioned rooms.

What NOT to wear:

White – This is one of my biggest pet-peeves. Walking into a wedding and seeing someone, besides the bride, in white. Wearing a white-based dress or skirt, with a large colorful print is acceptable. If you are in anything that might closely resemble something the bride would wear during her rehearsal dinner, or on her wedding day, just go ahead and change. It is the bride’s day, not yours.

Don’t wear black to a daytime wedding. People associate black with death and mourning, and you are attending a celebration! So put on a fun colorful print. However, it is perfectly acceptable to wear your LBD to an evening wedding. Like I said before, just add some fun color to your outfit.

Never, EVER wear jeans to a wedding, no matter how casual you think it is. There are some great casual dresses out there.
When in doubt about your wedding attire, ask yourself, WWKW? (What would Kate Middleton wear?). Kate always looks put together and elegant. Never too sexy, but always showing off her best assets. She is the epitome of class and grace, so model your outfit after something you might see her in.

Last, but not least, make sure you wear some comfortable heels for dancing! You want to have fun, and not worry about your feet hurting all night.

Festival + Summer Concert Wear:

I think we can all agreed that summer has officially begun, and a good way to kick-off the season is to hit up a few concerts that are in the area. Personally, I am more than excited to see the Luke Bryan concert at The Amp next week, and River Fest will be booming this weekend in Little Rock.

After purchasing tickets, the next most important thing to do is to decide what to wear to the show. This summer’s overall style has been greatly inspired by the fashion of Coachella. It is all about free-spirit style, mixed with bright colors. I like to call it “hippie-chic.”

The biggest trend seen at Coachella this year was the high waisted cut-off shorts with a loose cropped tank. The Chaser “Welcome to the Jungle” tee paired with the Rich and Skinny shorts is a great look. The high waisted Free People floral shorts have been a staff favorite, along with the Chaser “Blondie” tank.

If you are in a hurry, a great go-to look is a bright maxi dress (Addison Story), with a Deepa Gurnani headband, and a pair of Sam Edelman flip-flops. This is easy, comfortable, and is a classic concert style.

Headwraps,over-sized sunglasses, and Cuban fedoras are must have accessories for any of these looks.

Pretty much anything goes, so have fun putting your outfit together! Concerts are a great way to express your individual style!

Farmer’s Market Fashion

One of the things I really enjoy about Fayetteville during the summer is the Farmers’ Market. Strolling around the square on a bright sunny Saturday morning, coffee in hand, and taking in the scenery is a very euphoric experience. I love getting caught up in the vast colors of the flowers, the art and the produce. You can get lost in the array of people, sounds, smells and the all-around buzz of the atmosphere.

Instead of getting “lost” in the crowd, I want my style to help add to the ambiance. It takes the right amount of personal touch and homework to accomplish this.

Let’s all face it, waking up early on a Saturday morning is sometimes tough, and the last thing I want to do is think about is putting a look together. My go-to outfit on the weekends during the summer is a cotton sundress. This is a staple for all girls in the South. Every southern belle knows how hot and humid it gets in Arkansas, and the sundress is an easy and comfortable way to look fashionable and stay cool.

One of my favorite dresses is the LA Made high-low tank dress in Blue Blush. Throw on with a skinny belt, some Jeffrey Campbell flip flops and sunglasses

Another dress option is the MM Couture color block maxi. This is an effortlessly classy look for those spicy-hot mornings in Fayetteville.

Not a dress person? One of my favorite “lazy day” outfits is a pair of cropped straight legs, like the Citizens of Humanity Dani,and a flowy Bobi striped tee. Add an Ornamental Things long chain necklace, and you have a cool and stylish look.

Of course a pair of white shorts is always a good summer look. My favorite pair is the Rich & Skinny Hampton Short. They are just the right length, and very flattering on all shapes. Pair these with the Rebecca Taylor Leopard Pullover and the hot pink Dolce Vita Archer sandals, and you have an effortless Saturday morning look.

With any of these outfits you will be the envy of the Farmers’ Market! The only thing missing from these looks: an iced latte and pastry from The Little Bread Company. Happy Weekend!
