I’m still working to get back into a groove. It’s been difficult to string together runs with some consistency. Most of my runs recently have been 3-4 miles. So far, I’ve been content to run the exact same route. I know that there are other places to run, but I find myself going the same way when I leave my house. I think that the route is comfort food. As pitiful as my mileage total is this month (I won’t even post it publicly), I’m on track for the most miles in a month since April. I have no specific Fall races in mind which feels strange. I’ll be happy to continue my slow trek back to running normalcy.

I went running 3 times this week. Each route was 5 miles. I’m product testing some running shoes, which provided some motivation for me to get out there. The main reason is that I don’t have any ailments/restrictions holding me back. The runs were the same distance but they were all different.

Wednesday night, I ran at 8pm, but it was still really warm. I finished the 5 miles in 44:33 and afterward, I sat in the pool to cool down. I was really overheated.

Saturday morning, I ran a wandering route without a destination in mind. The newness of the surroundings made the 5 miles go by quickly. It wasn’t nearly as warm and I carried hydration so this run was better than the previous one. I finished in 44:17.

Sunday afternoon’s run was the best, perhaps because I’m starting to get back into a groove. I slept in this morning until nearly noon. I went for the 5 mile run around 2pm. The skies were cloudy with rain in the air, but I didn’t get rained on. I carried hydration, though it was fairly humid. I finished the run in 42:33. I pushed the pace during the second half of the run and finished strong.

I’m happy about my running this past week. The 15 miles is the most that I’ve run in a couple of months. I finished each of the runs with my fastest mile. Each run was faster than the previous one. Who knows, maybe I’m back on track.

I’ve had the best intentions, but every time that I think that I’m back on track running I get stopped. Most recently, I’ve been sidelined by some dental surgery and the hot temperatures. I’m mostly healed now and I’m thinking of joining a gym to get out of the heat. I just don’t have it in me to run early in the morning.

Today, I went for a run after a rainstorm came through the area and knocked 20 degrees off the temperature. It’s crazy that 75 seems cool, but the run felt good.

The redhead and I had a fun week at the shore. I love the beach and the marsh. It’s so much more interesting to run at the shore than at home. Last Thursday, I went for a run in the late afternoon when the temperature cooled down to the low 90s. There was a nice breeze that helped cool me. I only ran 3.25 miles but it was a good workout.

Tonight, with cloudy skies and rain in the forecast, I went for a 3 mile run at Veteran’s Park. The rain started at the end of my run as I took the boardwalk into the woods. The trees provided some protection from the heavy downpour. From the boardwalk, I continued on the red trail and I emerged from the woods near the sand volleyball courts. Surprisingly, there were still several games in action. The last quarter mile was along the road back to my car. By the time I reached the end, I was drenched. The rain felt good. I didn’t mind being wet. I was thankful that it wasn’t a thunderstorm.
