She had a great run, delighting sorority girls and frat boys on spring break for decades. However, her time has come and the Red Headed Slut has passed on. She was given a proper New Orleans burial least Saturday night, complete with a preacher and marching band. The funeral procession began at Harrah’s directly after the Spirit Awards at Tales of the Cocktail, with a full police escort we paraded up Canal Street and into the French Quarter ending up at Latrobe’s on Royal. Drink were served, of course, a nice Cucumber Cooler courtesy of Plymouth Gin, which were perfect in the New Orleans heat.

So we here at Drink of the Week, raise glass to an old friend.

Red Headed Slut

1 oz. Jaegermeister
1 oz. Peach Shnapps
2 oz. Cranberry Juice

Poor the Jaegar in a highball glass filled with ice, follow with Cranberry Juice. Top with Peach Schnapps and garnish with a cherry. Or split between 2 shot glasses.

Here’s a little video of the parade.

It’s a smooth gin that is slightly sweeter and richer than its dry gin counterpart.

Beefeater 24 gets its name from the 24 hours it steeps in botanicals including Spanish grapefruit and Seville orange peel, bitter almond, orris root, green tea and Japanese Sencha tea.

The tea and citrus influence is very subtle but pleasing.

It’s not a flavored gin, but rather a nuanced take on classic gin with tea and citrus treated as part of the botanical mix.

I plan to play with it a little and see if I can come up with my own way to use this fun and fancy gin in a cocktail.

But Beefeater commissioned mixologists to come up with recipes. So in the meantime, here’s one of theirs I recommend that plays with the citrus notes.

Shifting Sands

1.5 parts Beefeater 24
1.5 parts fresh grapefruit juice
.25 part fresh lemon juice
2 bar spoons of Maraschino liqueur
club soda

Build ingredients into a high-ball filled with ice. Top with club soda and garnish with a twist.

I was already to sit down and write my own drinking game for the Super Bowl, but I ran across this on le basketbawl an NBA blog of all things, but this guy nailed it. So why recreate the wheel? I got drinking to do!

Here ’s my favorites.
Chug your beer ( or take a shot ) every time:

- You see Peyton Manning in a commercial. Good Luck!
- The camera finds its way onto the Manning Family. I doubt you’ll make it through the first half with this one!
- An announcer makes reference to Gisele Bundchen!
- Randy Moss is noted as now being a hard worker or mature.
- Bill Parcells is brought up.
- You hear a player is giving it “110%”!
- You hear the word “Dynasty.”
- The Miami Dolphins or Don Shula or champagne are mentioned.
- “American Idol” is mentioned.
- Vince Lombardi’s name is brought up.

and one of my own:
Joe Buck forgets that Eli Manning isn’t Payton and calls him Payton.

read the whole list:
