On July 26th, Google said goodbye to its Adsense for feeds blog. Adsense for feeds blog was started by Google in December 2008 when they started integration of Adsense with content feed. Since then, it has published informative and useful tips for publishing Adsense with your content feeds. The frequency of posts on this blog was never consistent and when they published the last post after almost 2 years, it was to let know the users that they are dropping this blog.

Google Adsense for feeds blog has been a place for Adsense tips for most of the online publishers and it helped a lot of us to understand Adsense better. I have been a regular reader of this blog and had also subscribed to their updates. However they had stopped regular updates after 2010. For me that’s a sad news that they don’t find it worth continuing.

I have been out from blogging since the last 7 months and let me tell you this was not easy. I was in fact busy with some other aspects of my professional life. Hence could not give much time to blogging and keeping this site fresh with new contents. Please accept my sincere apologies for keeping this site stale for a long period. I totally understand the disappointment that you guys must be feeling each time you would be visiting this site. However I am back and I promise you fresh and regular updates going forward.

I would also like to take this opportunity to update you about my plans and how I plan to take blogging and this website going forward. During the last 7 months, I was busy with several things mostly in my full-time job, because of which I decided to take a break from blogging, however things have settled now and you can see regular updates going forward.

During this time, I have worked on creating a strategy for my blogging activities, this site and starting new blogs catering to niche topics. I have planned to start ShoutingWords blog network and will be blogging on some niche topics related to blogging and associated technologies. I have registered few domain names which I am planning to put on live in the coming months. The strategy here is to offer you relevant and useful content related to blogging, social media, WordPress, MS Excel and Ubuntu with dedicated blogs providing information on each of these topics.

I have decided to include blogs dedicated to WordPress, MS Excel and Ubuntu into the blog network. I have published WordPress related stuff on this blog but going forward those would be made available on our new blog which would be dedicated to WordPress. I am also working on redesigning the current design of ShoutingWords and make it more clean and lean keeping more focus on content and user engagement. You will see the new design going live in a day or two and I would love to hear your opinion and comments on the new design and how that could help you in having a better experience on ShoutingWords.

I am very positive about the strategy and looking forward to implementing it in coming months.

Note: This is an old post. Google has now disabled showing ads on parked domain.
Do you have many domain names which you have parked and they are not live? Don’t you think they are sitting idle doing nothing for you except putting a hole in your pocket every year for the renewal fee? Here is what you can do. You can run Adsense ads on the parked domains and can earn some cash which can help you in paying the annual renewal fee. This post will explain how you can show Adsense ads on GoDaddy parked domain. As a prerequisite, you should have an already approved AdSense account which I assume you have. To show Adsense on your GoDaddy parked domain, you need to do the following:

1. Creating a New Hosted Domain on your AdSense account
2. Delegating your domain’s GoDaddy nameserver to Google’s DNS nameserver

What else? Were you expecting a long list of steps? naah…its very simple and I will walk you through the entire process in an even simpler way.

OK, Lets get started with the first step:

1. Creating a New Hosted Domain on your Adsense Account

• Login to Adsense and Go to “My ads”
• Click on “Domains” in the left sidebar

• In the next page, click on “New Hosted Domain”

• You can add up to 100 domain names in the text box that appears after you click on the “New Hosted Domain”. You need to separate every domain name with a comma, space or line break.
• Now select a language for the domains you have updated and click on “Add Domain(s)” button. You can also alternatively upload a CSV file containing the domain names.

• After you click on the “Add Domain” button, you will see a confirmation message that your domain has successfully been added. Click on Close to close the pop-up message.

• You can also click on the “View the domain setup guide” link and can note the Google nameserver details. To save you from that extra screen, I have already taken the note of them and have mentioned below which can be updated into the GoDaddy name server details page.

Now let’s do that second and the last phase of this activity.

2. Delegating your domain’s GoDaddy nameserver to Google’s DNS nameserver

• Go to godaddy.com and Login to your account

• Hover over the Domains menu item until you get a drop down with Domain Manager Link in the bottom right

• After you get inside the domain manager, you need to click on the desired domain name on which you would like to show Adsense Ads

• Now you can see the existing DNS entries of the domain name. You need to change these entries to the Google DNS nameserver entries as mentioned in the screenshot below

That’s it, As soon as Google detects the new DNS entries, it will start showing Adsense ads on your parked domain and you will start earning from something which was earlier sitting idle doing nothing for you.

The steps might be a little different for other domain registrars but the basic concept is same. You need to change the existing DNS entries of the domain name with the Google DNS entries and Adsense will start serving ads on your parked domain.

Those of you who are regular reader of ShoutingWords might have noticed that there was not much happening since last so many months. Timeline is the new design overhaul of Facebook user information page which was introduced at Facebook’s F8 conference in September 2011. It lets you arrange your profile and your activities on Facebook in a completely different way. Up until now, you have listed your likes, interests and personal information on Facebook but this major change will let you see detailed overview of your life at Facebook with the ability of checking of what you have done at any given point of time.

This feature was initially rolled out in New Zealand only but now it is available for everyone. Like any other new release of Facebook, there are concerns raised about privacy. Some people believe it’s a new way of asking for more personal information.

Timeline is coming with a 7 days grace period during which you can check and tweak around everything that appears on your timeline before anyone could see that. You can also publish your timeline anytime during the review period. If you would like to wait, it will automatically go live after 7 days from the day you opted for it and will replace your existing profile with the new Timeline keeping all the photos and stories.

Initially your Timeline will include some of your top photos and stories. Hide or highlight whatever you want and add anything that’s missing. You can also choose how your timeline appears to other people, you can go to the settings page by clicking on the gear icon on top of your Timeline and choose the right setting.

With Timeline, you can also choose featured stories which you would like to show to people and the stories which you would like to hide.

Timeline also introduces a new tool called Activity Log which lets you see all your activities at one single place from today to the day you started using Facebook. You can choose the year or month for which you would like to see the updates and stories that you shared. Isn’t that cool?

In my last article, I told you about Facebook rolling out a new feature of real-time news feeds ticker. I also told you that I wanted to remove the ticker but could not find any solution. However as soon as I finished the post, I found a solution to remove the ticker. This is a small JavaScript which you can execute using Greasemonkey add-on for Firefox browser. Greasemoney allows you to customize the way a web page displays or behaves, by using small bits of JavaScript. You can find hundreds of scripts, for a variety of popular sites, already available at http://userscripts.org.

To get started, you need to install the Greasemonkey add-on. Here is the link for Greasemonkey Firefox add-on:

After the add-on is installed, you need to visit the following link to install the user script in Greasemonkey.

Once installed, this script will run every time you will visit any of the Facebook pages and will disable the ticker box. In case, you would like to enable it in future, you can go to Greasemonkey options, Manage User Scripts and disable the user script.

While browsing Facebook today, you might have noticed a cool ticker box on top of the Facebook chat box. This is a new feature which has been rolled out by Facebook which shows real-time news feed without refreshing the page. The Facebook homepage however by default gets refreshed after a certain time but if something is happening within the wait time, then we were not able to see it until we refreshed the page.

So if were refreshing the page every few second to see the latest updates, then this ticker might help you to get the updates in real-time. This also shows who has come online, which i find is really good for those who have a long list of friends and who would want to talk to a particular friend. Now with this notification mechanism, they will get notified instantly as soon as friend comes online. You can click each update to see a full version of the story. It seems that Facebook team is testing this feature since it is disappearing after a refresh.

Facebook has launched features which are sometimes not liked by users (like the chatbox sidebar), So I also tried to find out if there is any solution or workaround to hide it but could not find any solution as of now. We will have to probably wait until we get some solution. When I visited the Facebook help center, there is nothing apart from a mention in the FAQ.
