Apple is Filtering “Jailbreak” Term in the US iTunes Store

Apple is reportedly filtering the “Jailbreak” term from the iTunes items. All the categories are affected with this filter including Apps, songs, albums, podcast episodes, and iTunes U episodes. One of our readers told us that this filter is also blocking the term even in iBooks.

Few moments ago I myself searched the term “Jailbreak” in iTunes and found that over 95% jailbreak words were replaced with “j******k”. However, this filter is currently applied on the US iTunes store only. The other stores in other countries are still showing the complete word.

It was the planetbeing, popular iOS hacker, who first noticed this filtering.

It is still unclear whether Apple did it intentionally, or the filter is applied by mistake. We will let you know more about it when we get reliable information from inside the Apple.

Official Facebook Pages Manager iPhone App Available for Download Now

Facebook has released another app called “Facebook Pages Manager” for iPhone which lets you to manage all the pages you control. It lets you view the recent activity, update status, upload photos, get the notifications and view pages Insights. Just like its ancestor Facebook App, the UI of Facebook Pages Manager is also very clean and neat. You can manage multiple pages and respond to the queries of reader on the go.

After installing Facebook Pages Manager on my iPhone I found that its little bit slow and needs more improvements. Most importantly it misses the Private messages feature.

The app is currently available for download through New Zealand AppStore. It will be rolled out to other countries soon. However, it is interesting that Facebook is founded in the US but this very important app is released outside the US. I don’t know what’s the logic behind this but it seems the company wants to get the feedback and the reports from limited users before it releases it for all.

Certificate Backup App Saves and Restores Push and YouTube Certificates on Hacktivated iPhone

One of the common problems the users of hacktivated iPhone face is the inability of their iPhone to get push notifications. Some users can not connect to youtube servers using the official youtube app on these hacktivated devices. These types of problems arise because we activate the iPhone with Redsn0w or with some other app instead of using the official method which involves connecting the iPhone with iTunes after successful upgrade or restore of iOS on the device.

If you have the official Push and Youtube certs or you have purchased these certificates from any third party like Pushfix.info, you can safely save these certificates and restore them when needed. Certificate Backup app is released on Cydia store which will do these functions for you.

Certificate Backup will collect all certs and enclose them in a zipped file which you can download using iFile to store it locally or you can also send it to your email. This app performs one more thing and that is its feature to restore these certs back to their original position after you install a fresh iOS or the push functionality has stopped working on your device.

If the app gives you time-out error during retrieving process, it means either your device is very slow and is taking a lot of time to respond or the certs are not available for extraction. In either situation you should restarts your device and retry after closing all background apps.

iPhone 5 to Feature 4 Inch Screen Size

Rumors about next generation iPhone 5 often come out from this and that source but this time two top leading news sites WSJ and Reuters report that iPhone 5 will have larger 4″ screen size.

Smartphones with large screen are very common and popular among mobile lovers these days. But Apple was always reluctant to increase the size of their iPhone models. When iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S were announced, everyone was expecting an iPhone having the display larger than 3.7″. However, Steve Jobs, the Apple CEO of that time, rejected all suggestions saying that large-sized mobiles were difficult to operate in one hand. But due to the popularity of 4″+ screen size phones, it seems Apple has finally decided to give extra room to display.

Though WSJ and Reuters didn’t cite the exact source of information in their articles but keeping in view their previous records this information is correct. There are no other details mentioned in the posts.

If we put up all the reports at one place, iPhone 5 is expected to have the following features:

-> Large display having 4″ screen size

-> Screen resolution equal to existing iPhone 4S / iPad 3

-> A5X Processor

-> Running on iOS 6

Next generation iPhone 5′s release is being expected later this year in November / December.

Samsung has quietly released the user manual of Samsung Galaxy S III GT-I9300 on its website. If you have ever used any android (Samsung) smartphone then you can think there won’t be much new material to read in this manual. Pod2g Posts the List of Devices Compatible with iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak

Yesterday Pod2g posted the list of frequently asked questions for iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak on his blog and today he publishes the list of devices which will be covered in next jailbreak. According to his tweets and this list his untethered jailbreak works very well on iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPad 3 (wifi), iPad 2 (wifi) and iPad 1 versions so far.

In contrast to the previous jailbreaks which are released in near future, pod2g’s untethered jailbreak will not support some old models like iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3G. As the iPhone 3GS old bootrom models are already jailbroken untethered for life, so only iPhone 3GS new bootrom won’t get this jailbreak. Apple TV 3G are also unlucky for this time.

Download Redsn0w 0.9.11 b4, Brings Native iOS 5.1.1 Jailbreak Support and Stitching

Redsn0w 0.9.11 b4 adds the native jailbreak support for iOS 5.1.1 on all A4 devices. This version removes the need to point Redsn0w to previous version while performing the tethered jailbreak on iPhone 4, iPad 1, iPhone 3GS and other A4 device. Now we have to select the latest iPSW using the “select iPSW” option so that Redsnow fetches the required files from this new version.

Redsn0w 0.9.11 b4 also brings the Stitching feature for iPhone devices. After building a stitched iOS (iOS + blobs), we can downgrade to this stitched firmware even if the Apple’s signing window is closed or SHSH blobs are not available/accessible.

The users who rely on ultrasn0w based unlock can also use this new version to cook the custom iOS 5.1.1 firmwares while preserving the baseband. Later, they can jailbreak their device with this same version and install the Ultrasn0w from cydia to get the signal. However, it is to be noted that Redsn0w 0.9.11 b4 provides tethered jailbreak on A4 devices only.

Add Contacts as Icons on iPhone Homescreen with Homescreen Contacts Tweak

You all are familiar with the Favorite tab of phone app which works like speed dial. You can add the contacts to this favorite list and call them with few clicks. But now you can also pin your favorite contacts on the homescreen using the Homescreen Contacts tweak available through Cydia store.

Apart from simple dialing the number, this new tweak gives you some extra features. You can send the message to the contact and even more make a facetime call to him/her. After installing this tweak you will see a new option at the bottom of every contact’s details page which will allow you to add that contact on Homescreen. If you have assigned a specific picture to the contact, this tweak will take that pic and make the icon out of it, otherwise it will use the default picture. You can change the icon image at any time using the Preferences of Homescreen Contacts.

This tweak works just like a folder. After tapping on the icon, it will open with folder-like animation providing you the available options.

This tweak is available on Cydia store with the price tag of $1.99. If you want to impress your friends or want to take contacts to next level, this price is worth paying for Homescreen Contacts.

FAQ for Untethered iOS 5.1.1 Jailbreak Posted by Pod2g

While every one was expecting the release of untethered iOS 5.1 jailbreak in previous week but due to the release of iOS 5.1.1 by Apple, pod2g and his company postponed the public version until iOS 5.1.1 compatibility is proved. Every jailbreaker is asking when the next jailbreak is coming through every available medium. Some fellows are posting posts on forums, some users are asking the same question on iPhone Dev Team’s official blog while others are sending tweets to hackers to get the answer.

Pod2g has finally provided the answers to all these questions in a short “Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)” related to his jailbreak and its release. Here is what he says on his blog:

I receive lots of questions either by email or twitter about the 5.1.x untethered jailbreak.

Here are some answers :

Q: The poll about releasing now or waiting for 6.0 ended with a 64% / 33% to release ASAP. Where is the link ? ETA ? How much % done ? etc.

Ans: As I said earlier in twitter, there’s still a lot to do to have a user friendly and well tested tool to install the jailbreak on end users devices. Expect a release in a couple of weeks.

Q: Will it be compatible with myiOS device> ?

Ans: It will be compatible with any device running iOS 5.1.1 except iPod 3G, iPhone 3Gs and ATV3 (right now, may change in a near future, nobody knows).

Q: Why is it so slow to release now that the iPad 3,1 has been demoed ?

Ans: There are 16 different devices out there to work on and to test. It takes time.

Q: May I be a beta tester ?

Ans: No, sorry. Only really trusted people (that can be counted on one hand) could have access to the jailbreak. I don’t want any leak to happen.

Q: What if I offer you 1,000,000$ ?

Ans: That doesn’t change a thing.

Now it clear that iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak will take more 2-3 weeks before it goes public. And we should be little patient and shouldn’t not force the hacker. It is better to have a bug free tool rather than having a buggy jailbreak.

Cool iPhone Safari Bookmarklets Tricks to View Source Code, Use Firebug, Decrease and Increase Font Size of Webpages

Safari is the main browser on iPhone and almost every one uses it to view the websites, read the articles and flip through the photos. But it has limited functions as compared to desktop browser and one can not add the more features to it using third-party apps or extensions. However, hackers and developers have found some way to add more flavors to it either by installing tweaks from Cydia store after jailbreaking the device or by using the bookmarklets.

Bookmarklets are usually small pieces of javascript codes stored in Bookmarks section of the browser or in a link on a webpage. These bookmarklets give you one click access to a function which usually requires more than one taps.

In this article we have gathered some cook safari bookmarklets tricks which will allow you to view the source code of any website, use the firebug on a webpage and increase/decrease the font-size of the webpage’s text.

If you know how to use add and use the bookmarklet, you can skip this part and scroll down to get the actual javascript snippets. Otherwise, keep reading on to find what steps are required to add the bookmarklet in Safari.

How to Add Bookmarklet:

Step 1: First of all bookmak any webpage by tapping on the arrow sign on your iPhone/iPad safari browser. In this example we are bookmarking our main Shoutpedia webpage.

Step 2: Open the Bookmarks by tapping on “Book” sign on browser.

Step 3: Scroll down to the bookmark which we just saved and press the “Edit” button.

Step 4: Clear the title of the URL and type new title. For instance if we want to add the “increase font” bookmarket, we should rename the title to “F+” or simply “+” to save the space.

Step 5: Delete the URL part too and copy the javascript code in this area. The javascript snippets are at the bottom of this post.

Step 6: Come out of the Bookmarks folder by tapping on the “Done” option.

Step 7: Now open any webpage the font of which you want to decrease, go to bookmarks folder and tap the Bookmarkets we just created.

Step 8: We can also place these bookmarklets on the browser bar in iPad to save extra clicks.
