"FORT WORTH -- To kill mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus, parts of the 76104 and 76110 ZIP codes south of downtown will be sprayed from ground level with the insecticide permethrin Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, city officials said Wednesday.
"This became a critical area yesterday afternoon," said Brandon Bennett, Fort Worth's code compliance director. "There were a number of human cases that occurred there over a brief period of time."
The area extends south from Vickery Boulevard on the near south side to about Arlington Street in the Fairmount neighborhood. The eastern edge is roughly the BNSF tracks along Interstate 35W; the west edge is about Ninth Avenue in the Medical District.
Contractors will spray along targeted streets three nights in a row, Bennett said..."

I am not in those ZIP code areas. I am in 76116 ZIP code area.
I have not seen any mosquitoes around here. Of course we do not have a lot of swimming pools around here. This is the part of Fort Worth for poor folks.

If I was still working hospital security and safety I would recommend that the hospitals get with the city and work out some communications about when the spraying trucks will be close to the hospitals and then the hospitals could shut down their air handling equipment for that short period of time. You can not have it off for very long because of the heat build up. It builds up very fast in a hospital and extra fast in units like the ICU with lots of monitors and equipment. I shut down air handling equipment at a small hospital a few times because of smoke in the area. I can not remember if I had any luck with the hospital in Orlando (FL) area that I worked at. But I came into work on day and the smoke was so bad I could not see my hand in front of my face and people in the hospital were complaining about the smoke smell in the hospital. But I was a contract guard there and they never listened to me about anything. I was in charge of the contract guard account for the company and in charge of all the guard but the hospital and the staff paid no attention to anything I said. I got out of there as soon as I could and that is the last time I worked hospital. It is the only time I worked as a contract guard for a hospital. In Kansas City I worked in house security and safety.

I do not think there is any danger from the spraying unless you are mosquitoes. But I think it is always safe to error on the side of safety. That is why I am so worried about global warming. We should error on the side of being safe. We should not wait until it is the end of the world and we can not do anything to change things.

Concealed gun owner shoots own ass

“A licensed concealed handgun owner from Waco, Texas hurt more than his pride on Monday when his weapon accidentally discharged while he was reaching for his wallet at a Dallas Walmart store.
Police said that Todd Canady, 23, was in the checkout line when he fired the pistol he was carrying inside his pants.
“The bullet struck Canady in the buttock, then ricochet on the floor and broke into pieces,”KDFW reported. Two children and a woman were also wounded when they were struck by bullet fragments.
Other reports indicated that the bullet grazed Canady’s leg he when dropped the Springfield .40-caliber semi-automatic pistol. Shards of concrete from the floor were said to have caused the wounds to the woman and children.
Although injured, the suspect allegedly ran from the store when he was confronted by an off-duty officer.
After catching up with Canady, officers determined that he had a valid concealed carry permit, but charged with evading arrest. He may also be charged with felony injury to a child.

No grasshoppers yet

We got a little bit of rain here in Fort Worth today and at 3:45 AM it is 71 degrees here. That is a cold spell this time of year.
I walked around the apartment parking lot for 24 minutes at 2 AM. That was 0.7 of a mile. The last thing I did was get four cans of Coke of the vending machine over by the office. I got a feeling that is not a good thing.

If you been watching my videos on YouTube you may have seen the videos on my new cell phone and on the extended battery for it. My cell phone has been off the charger for 3 days and 18 hours and the battery still has 47% of it charge!
I love these big batteries.

I just watched “The Newsroom” and it was very good tonight.

Celeste Holm has died. She was 95 years of age.
I was not a big fan but I did love the movie “Come to the Stable” (1949).
I clicked on all the stars from that movie and they are all dead. Sort of a funny feeling the next time I watch that movie and I will know that everyone in the movie is now dead.

I have not seen any grasshoppers here yet. I guess they are showing up in “pockets” across Dallas and Fort Worth. I will check my pockets. Smile

You know Facebook has given everyone an email address. I do not think any of us wanted their email address. I sent a test message to my Facebook eMail address and I never got it. Not sure where it shows up.

I live in west Fort Worth and I know the location of the golf course. I can get there by the number 26 bus.
It looks like the golf course will close on September 30th and the park will open on October 1st. I look forward to visiting and using the park.
I guess it will be a 138 acre park. It would be nice if the park had free WiFi access.
I could walk the paths and send live streaming video via Qik or some other video site right here to my blog. That would be fun and might get me out of the house. I know sad.. That I have to have a hi-tech reason to get out of the house.

There is a plague heading for Dallas and Fort Worth. No, I am not talking about a bunch of Tea Party people. They were here a few weeks ago for a planning meeting.
I am talking about a real plague. The sort of plague that God sends when people are bad.

Grasshoppers are on their way to Dallas and Fort Worth.

A horde of hoppers denuded 180 acres of Bermuda and native grasses on Bobby Sicking's pastureland in Gainesville, forcing him to move his 100 cows and start feeding them hay.
He spent more than $3,000 spraying the pastures. Then the insects moved into the trees.
"You wouldn't believe it. They stripped every leaf off a native mulberry tree. I have a peach tree I sprayed twice and they ate the fruit down to the stones," he said. "There are two nearby corn patches and there are rows and rows with no leaves on them, and now they are burrowing into the ears."
The severe grasshopper outbreak is yet another destructive effect of last year's Texas drought. Consecutive years of hot, dry summers, warm autumns and dry springs favor grasshopper survival and reproduction, experts say…”

I am not even going to tell you that the water is “stinky” but safe says the water people.
Texas had another North Texas quake. Many people think it is caused by deep wastewater wells created as part of the natural gas fracking process.

All I can say is Lord Jesus turn back the horde of grasshoppers…We do not have many sinful Democrats here in Texas. We are good God loving conservative people that love the Bible, love Jesus and want Mitt Romney to be the next President of the United States.
Blessed Jesus Lord and Savior make our water pure and sweet as our love for you.
Jesus Christ our truth we will bless your name by drilling for oil and gas in this Texas you gave us and by pumping our blessed water and toxic chemicals into the ground. I have always been a cowboy at heart

The photo on the left is me a few years ago. I was being a cowboy in CA. It was during WWII. I was not old enough for the war.
People came around with the pony and the hat and stuff and came door to door.
I think a lot of city kids had their photos taken.
   But come on now… You got to admit I look like the real thing. I sit that pony like one of the James boys. (I am from Missouri.)
   I was a cute baby and a good looking kid just until the time that girls became important. Then I was not cute or handsome anymore.
   God is not a nice guy.   Or he has a very sick idea of humor.

I am 71 years old now. I would like to be young again. But would I?

I was never without a job. I would quit a job on Friday and get a new one Monday. Those times are over I fear. Young people now days get out of college and they have massive debt. I had zero debt when I got married at age 26. We had four kids and we got a new house about every two years. (My wife like to upgrade.)
Now of course after 12 years of being married the wife decided that she never loved me and never found me handsome and that she wanted to find a younger man. (I was 26 and she was 18 when we got married.)
So she wanted a divorce and I let her have one. I had to move in with my mother for a time because I got nothing from the divorce except bills and having to pay child support payments. After a few months I ended up with all four of the kids. My ex-wife had found a “cowboy” that she liked.
   Long story.. but with divorce everyone ends up fucked.

Not sure I would want to be a kid again. Unless I could come back as one of the sons of Mitt Romney.

Planned defense cuts threaten Fort Worth

“Come the first week of November, barring what now seems an unlikely shift in the political landscape, roughly 18,000 Dallas-Fort Worth-area employees of Lockheed Martin could receive an unnerving piece of mail.
That would be a WARN notice; a federally required warning that they could be laid off on or after Jan. 1.
That's the dire forecast Lockheed CEO Robert Stevens has made about the possible consequences if early next year the Pentagon is forced to chop some $55 billion from its budget immediately and every year for a decade, as required by last year's budget deal.
That's a 10 percent defense budget reduction. Until somebody informs him otherwise, Stevens told reporters last month, it's only prudent to assume Lockheed will take a big hit and a bunch of people will lose their jobs. Lockheed executives won't know which ones for months to come…”

I know we spend way to much money feeding the military-industrial complex. This has been going on for most of my life.
But when we are in a depression is not the time to be cutting spending that creates jobs losses. We want to keep spending and make more spending that creates jobs and then when things are normal cut spending.
Cutting and holding down spending did not work when Hoover was President of the United States and it will not work now.

The problem we have now is that Democrats and Republicans will not work with each other. The Democrats have made attempts to work with the Republicans but the right wing people feel like they should take positions and not give one inch. It makes it hard for the type of government system we have to work. If one side will not give an inch or make a deal or try an work on problems.
I do not see things getting better.
Right now the Republicans do not want to do anything that is going to improve the economy. They want the economy bad so they can hammer President Obama and defeat him in November.

I do not think things look good for the economy.

California approves high speed rail

California has approved high speed rail. The Democrats got it passed. The Republicans are not for it.
I can understand Republicans objecting to the project because of the cost. The cost will be, are you ready for this, $68 billion dollars.

It will create a lot of jobs but the ability for people to get around at a high speed is the main reason I think it is a good idea.

You have to have government do things like this… That is one of the reasons we have government.

Texas has been talking about high speed rail. But here the Republicans control everything and the Republicans want it to be funded by private corporations. They do not want the government to fund high speed rail.
So it does not look like it will get done.
Texas is such a big state that this state needs high speed rail.

High-speed rail in the United States

When the weather gets cooler this year I may take the train to a few places in Texas. But if I do I think I will spend the night and then return by train.
If we had high speed rail I could take the high speed train and leave in the morning and eat lunch and check out some city in Texas and then return to Fort Worth in the evening.
I think the last time I was on a train was when I went to welding school in OH. I took the train from Kansas City to Cleveland OH. That was just before John F. Kennedy was elected President of the United States. I remember because I had to vote for Kennedy by absentee ballot.

Triple-digit heat

The United States is getting Texas type weather. My daughter and her husband did not have power over the weekend due to the heat. They live in Washington (DC). I have never been to Washington (DC) but I know the climate sucks often. It was not the best place to put our “federal city” but that is the place it ended up. One thing is the humid weather and then it can have some bad winter weather.
I hope to visit DC in 2013 if President Obama is re-elected.

It is hot in Texas and we need rain. Hell Texas has needed rain for thousands of years. I wonder if it was a good idea for us to take Texas from Mexico. Hell, maybe they out smarted us and got us to take it from them.

I am doing OK. My grandson and I have a nice apartment. The AC is working good and if something happens to it the apartment people will fix it.
We have not lost power. Texas is on it’s own power grid for some reason. It is called the Texas Interconnection.
I think most Americans know what it is to go without power from time to time. I have lived in Missouri without power a few times. I have lived in FL without power.
This apartment is all electric but we do have a fireplace.
The electric bill each month is not to bad. I do not know how some people make it each month with such high electric bills.

I wonder what % of Americans have lived without electric power for x amount of time. What are the worst cities and states for power lost?

It is July 6th and I wonder if we will make it through the summer without losing power?

Keep cool everyone and if you know of old people living around you try and check on them and make sure they have AC going or fans or windows open or something.

Long walk

It is 0552 and I just got home from a 34 minute walk. It was 2.19 miles and at a speed of 3.8 miles per hour.
I am going to take a nap. In one hour I have to wake my grandson so he can get ready for work.

I love my cell phone. I used CardioTrainer when I was out walking to map my wall and everything.
My new extended battery is working great. I got it yesterday. I took it off the charger at 9 PM last night. It is 6 AM now and it is still at 100% charge.

It is 80 degrees in Fort Worth right now.
The entire United States has record breaking hot weather. I feel very sorry for all of those that have lost power. I hope you get your power back on soon.

Lust in my heart for $11 million dollars

Yesterday I got two lottery tickets. Just so I could get change for the bus. You have to have correct change for the bus.
The jackpot was a cash value of $11,600,000.00 (that is $11 million dollars).
No one won. The jackpot is now $16 million dollars and the cash value would be $12.4 million.

The photo above is me looking with lust at the ticket before I checked to see if it was a winner. OK I guess it not a look of “lust.” Not sure what sort of look it was.
I guess I could never be an actor. I would look the same for all parts. I would need to have a part as a masked super hero. But then if I did any action shots they would have to call 911 for me. I know… I could play the part of dead people in TV shows and movies.

Fort Worth Weather

It is June 24th and today it is going to get to 101 or 102 degrees in Forth Worth. I got an Rx I need to pick up at CVS but I just do not want to get out in this heat.
I should start having my Rx sent to me via the mail.
But you wonder how much longer we are going to have a post office.
If Mitt Romney gets in office he may do away with the post office and I do not think I could afford to get my medications via UPS or FedEx.

I am almost out of Coke. In fact I will run out of Coke today.
I guess that means I will be getting out in the heat to get Coke.
Yes, I will go out into 100 degree heat for Coke but not for my medications.

My electric bill for the last month is only $75.00 and I am happy with it. Of course, I have to pay that extra $75.00 for the re-billing they did on me. So I have to pay $150.00 this month.
If I give up on food and treats for next month I may have the ability to come up with the money to get the new cell phone I want. But I could only afford it this month because I am going to get $120.00 in a few days from Google.

Walking for health

Last night about 0300 hours I was out walking around the parking lot. I walked for 27:18 minutes. I walked .81 miles.
I just got back from walking to CVS and back. So it is about six hours from my last walk. This time it was 25:20 minutes and .91 miles. I almost walked a mile! Smile
I also got some OJ. No candy. I got OJ and five of my medications.

My ex-wife will get her computer today. Bummer… I am glad she is getting it but I think it is going to be better than my computer. There is something not right about that. Smile

Tea Party is taking over Tarrant County

The local newspaper (Star-Telegram) says that today the Tea Party will take over Tarrant County and it will become the “most conservative urban county” in Texas. Of course I have to live in Tarrant County.
I will be going to vote in the soon today and I will vote for the Democratic candidates to run in the November election. This is Texas and I do not expect any of the Democrats will win.

I will be voting for President Obama. He has four people running against him in this election! I have no idea who they are or why they would run.

Well I got to come up with $1.50 in correct change for the bus. Wish me luck. I wonder if I will see any other Democrats.

“DALLAS -- Private-equity investors who bought Dallas-based electric utility TXU Corp. five years ago now see the company worth less than the $45 billion they paid and mired in debt.
Nevertheless, the company, now called Energy Future Holdings, is making multimillion-dollar retention bonus payments to executives and cash payments to private-equity holders, The Dallas Morning News reported.
Warren Buffett recently apologized to Berkshire Hathaway shareholders for spending about $2 billion on Energy Future bonds, which are now worth about $878 million, and conceded even that could be wiped out.
Private-equity firm KKR has written down its Energy Future investment's value by 95 percent.
Experts say the company and its investors were ambushed by plummeting natural gas prices and the effects on wholesale electric power prices.
"What brought Energy Future Holdings ... to this sorry state of affairs is the wholly unexpected events around natural gas," Colin Blaydon, director of Dartmouth College's Center for Private Equity and Entrepreneurship, told the newspaper. "I mean, nobody saw this coming."
The development of hydraulic fracturing has freed up vast amounts of natural gas in already exploited fields in Texas and the Northeast. In February 2007, when KKR and private-equity partners TPG and Goldman Sachs announced their offer to buy TXU in the biggest leveraged buyout in history, gas futures were trading at $7.55 per million Btu. Now, they are trading between $2 and $3…”

May 29th TX primaries

I often tell you how stupid the Republican voters are and they are stupid. Most of all the working people that vote Republican.

But you know in one area they are not stupid…and this is in voting. They get out and vote in the primaries. Those are very important elections.

Democrats, I think, do not get out and vote in the primaries. I am not sure if someone has stats to back that up or not.
But I know I yell and scream and rave about how bad the Republicans are and it is rare for me to vote in a primaries.
Republicans should be laughing their asses off at me.
Because it is stupid of me not to vote in the primaries.

Early voting begins today for the May 29th primaries here in Texas.
I got a call the other day on the telephone.. robot call…
The calls do not say if the person is Democrat or Republican but you can pretty much tell … if the number one reason they tell you to vote for them is that they are for no new taxes you can bet they are a Republican.

I wish someone running for office had to have on their advertising their party.
Not that I am going to vote by error for some Republican but I think it should have to be on their advertisement.

I am not sure the Democrats do it anymore ..but the Democrats always had their printing down at union printing shops and there would always be the little decal on it saying “union printed” or something to that effect.
Wall Street, the corporations, banks and the 1% have just about killed off the unions. I bet the Democrats have a hard time trying to find a union printer now days.

They have not come forward yet to claim their money.
They can take cash or 25 annual payments.

I am in the west of Fort Worth but someplace not far from here there is a very happy person and a very rich person.

Charter to add 28 HD Channels soon

I turned on my cable TV and could not get any channels. There was just a message saying Your Digital Service has been disconnected and to call 1-888-438-2427.
I checked and my Internet service and phone service was still working.
I knew I had paid my Charter Cable bill but I logged into Charter just to make sure. I am all paid up.

So I called the number and got a live person and they sent a signal to my box and fixed the problem. Odd problem. I have never seen that problem in the past.

I checked everything and everything seems to be working.
I did notice that now EPIX 490 has the normal sort of screen that you see when you don’t get a pay channel. The one that tells you that you can upgrade and how much it cost a month ($10).

You will remember that I blogged about their free three day demo and that it lasted longer that three days but the entire time the channel would be buffering all the time and you could not watch anything on it.
Not sure what is going on with EXIP.

I see that in some areas of the United States that Charter is moving their channels around. I suspect that Charter is getting ready to add new channels or do something and that they are making changes.

OK I just did a search again and it looks like Charter is adding 28 new HD channels and when they do that they appear to be moving channels around.
They are doing that in MO and other areas so it will come to Dallas/Fort Worth soon I am sure.

This appears to be the list 28 new free high-definition channels they are adding in other areas so I am sure we will get them soon. I guess the channel numbers will be the same.

Move to Amend is coming to Texas in June and we need your help!
David Cobb, an attorney and organizer for the Move to Amend coalition, will be touring Texas and Arizona in June to help local residents understand how they can work to abolish "Corporate Personhood" and establish a government of, by, and for the people by joining the Move to Amend campaign.
David Cobb is fiery speaker, and former Green Party presidential candidate. His talk "Creating Democracy & Challenging Corporate Rule" is part history lesson and part heart-felt call-to-action!
Move to Amend is a coalition of over 194,000 people and organizations whose goal is to amend the United States Constitution to end corporate rule.
The first weeks of June are open for events in these places if we can find folks on the ground who will help us out:

Say it is not true Virgin Mobile

I been using Virgin Mobile for my cell phone service. I started with them when the 300 minute plan a month was $25.00 and when they increased the plan rate to $35.00 a month all of us that were paying $25.00 went on paying the $25.00 a month plus even if we got a new phone we kept paying the $25.00 a month.

Well Virgin Mobile just sent out a text message to everyone:

“New smartphones are any phones launching in May 2012 and thereafter.
To best complete a phone swap, we recommend waiting until your plan month is finished. This will avoid you having to pay for one month of service twice.
The Beyond Talk Plan rates that would apply are as follows:

$35/mo
Web, Data, Messaging, & Email: Unlimited
Anytime Minutes: 300 min.

$45/mo
Web, Data, Messaging, & Email: Unlimited
Anytime Minutes: 1200 min.

$55/mo
Web, Data, Messaging, & Email: Unlimited
Anytime Minutes: Unlimited

All plans include 2.5GB per month of full-speed data. Customers will continue to have data access but maximum speeds may be limited to 256Kbps or below for the remainder of the monthly plan cycle. During this time, customers may experience slower page loads, file downloads, and degraded streaming media. Throughput speeds will be restored when your new monthly plan begins.

2.5GB gets you 400,000 mobile Internet page views, or 91 hours of streaming music, or 20 hours of video clips, or 36,000 emails without attachments. Data usage per activity is based on average. Bandwidth varies by website, video, email and other Internet application.”

I have the $25.00 a month plan, as I said before, so if I keep my current phone I will keep paying $25.00 a month. But, of course, all of us keep looking at the new phones and will want to upgrade at some point.
I guess, for me, when that time comes that I am going to get a new phone I may move to MetroPCS or some other phone service. It does not appear that Virgin Mobile is going to be loyal to old customers and wants to keep old customers.
By the way.. It is rare for me to use more than 10 minutes of voice time a month and I use almost zero data. So I do not need a new phone but on the other hand I am not putting any drain on the VM service. VM should treat me better.

Radioactive waste may soon travel on DFW highways

Huge numbers of trucks carrying low-level radioactive waste from dozens of states will soon travel highways nationwide -- including those in the Metroplex -- on their way to a remote disposal site in West Texas.
Shipments from up to 36 states will head to a dump in Andrews County near the New Mexico border, owned by Dallas billionaire and generous Republican political donor Harold Simmons, despite concerns from environmentalists and others worried about potential accidents or contamination once the loads are left at the Waste Control Specialists facility.
"Texas is going to become a nuclear waste dump if everything happens under their plans," said state Rep. Lon Burnam, D-Fort Worth, an opponent of the facility. "We will be the major route for nuclear waste…”

You got to come and visit Texas. If the heat does not kill you or the gas or water from fracking then the radioactive waste will get you.

Thank you Harold Simmons for making donations to Gov. Rick Perry (R) and thank you Rick Perry for approving of the medical waste and radioactive contamination waste so that we can bury it in the red clay of Texas.
Rick Parry and the Republicans are so right. We do not need an EPA or any other federal agencies.

High winds no rain

It is 2:22 AM and we have high winds but I do not think we have had a drop of rain here in Fort Worth.

I just checked the weather radar and it looks like the weather is coming but not here yet.

‘Life Threatening’ Storms Today

This afternoon we may get “Life Threatening” storms today in Dallas and Fort Worth. The weather people sure know how to get your attention now with their new warnings.
We got, I think, NASCAR races in Fort Worth today and tomorrow. I am not a fan. But the number of people that show up for the races is unreal. When people are coming they turn all the roads into one way roads into Fort Worth and when the race is over they change the direction of all the roads to lead out of Fort Worth.
Not sure what and the hell would happen if we had dangerous weather during a race. My guess is they would put the race on hold and everyone would get out of the rain and drink beer. I guess they must have a plan for what to do at the race site.
