There is one thing I know a lot about is aching muscles and joints. Well I guess that’s two things. Anyways, with my arthritis my hands and feet are almost always in pain. I am always so glad when summer rolls around, because the warm sun sure beats a frigid winter. Even with the sun, I still find out I need some relief. I also can’t go around looking for a faucet to stick my hands under some warm water. I also can’t bring my husband along everywhere with me for a massage.

Beverly Lewis’ The Confession Movie

Based on the novel by the New York Times Best-Selling Author, Beverly Lewis comes the brand new DVD The Confession. Directed by Michael Landon Jr., and starring Katie Leclerc and Sherry Stringfield, this heartwarming , romantic and inspirational drama is sure to get the viewer talking. The film is a sequel to the Hallmark Channel’s hit movie, Beverly Lewis’ The Shunning, and is based on the second novel of “The Heritage of Lancaster County” trilogy from Beverly Lewis.

The story is about an adopted girl, Katie Lapp, who was raised by an Amish family, but has always felt the call of another life. So, she sets out to find her birth-mother. Laura Mayfield-Bennett draws Katie into her world of the “Englishers.” Then two different men try to help Katie overcome a devious scheme to steal he rightful inheritance. Meanwhile, the kind-hearted Justin Wirth finds out Katie’s hidden secrets, and her lifetime friend sacrifices his happiness for her future. Katie’s heart is divided between her two worlds but is drawn to the truth of her love.

The Confession will be available on DVD June 11th, 2013. Be sure to check this moving saga of love, trust and deceit.

This is a great family movie. All you will need is popcorn and some drinks and you are ready for a movie night with the family.

Before & After: Shabby Chic Dresser

I am back with another post of my Before and After projects. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. It is quite fun just to see your hard work change right before your eyes, and turn into such a gorgeous piece of furniture. First of of all, my daughter Sophia has quite a bit of clothes and if you have a girl I know you must go through the same situation as I do. There is never enough room for clothes. Even I have this problem LOL.

The current dresser Sophia had was too small for her, plus she had it since she was a baby. Now that she is bigger, she needs a larger dresser to keep her clothes neatly in place. So both my husband and I went looking for a dresser for a little girl. We went into several furniture stores; some were nice, some were a little too pricey, and some just basically did not have enough space.

I decided to browse on Craigslist, and found a dresser that looked like it would work. With a little paint I knew I could make it work, I said to my self. Sophia helped as well, and chose the colors so it will match with the rest of her bedroom furniture. The colors she selected were light pink and white. I painted the pink first, and then painted the white on top. Then I distressed it a little in order for the pink to come through the white. I changed the knobs and went to Hobby Lobby and bought some flower knobs that Sophia selected.

Here is the the final Shabby Chic dresser and I love that the small drawer on top where she can put her jewelry and other accessories. Very girly indeed. I hope you in enjoy this post. Until next time.

Before and After: French Provincial Dresser/Buffet

Well it has been quite a while sine I have blogged, but I have a really great reason why. I have been so busy re-decorating my house, and I am having so much fun that I tend to forget that I have to keep up with my blog . Now, we were trying to sell our current home and find a bigger one, however things have changed and we decided to stick here for a while and make our house as beautiful and liveable as possible.

I found this amazing French Provincial Dresser/Buffet. It did not look very pretty when I first laid my eyes upon it, but I knew deep in my heart that I could turn it into something gorgeous. I love the details on this dresser, everything looked beautiful, but it just needed a fresh coat of paint to make it look great. Here is a before picture of it. The top of the dresser was not very pretty, it had a few scratches and the stain that was on it was coming off. Now I was ready to start my project.

With the help of sweet dear husband, he placed the dresser in the garage and took all the drawers out for me. Don’t you love it when you get some help. Here are the supplies that I used on the dresser to make it as pretty as you see it now:

Dresser
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (Pure White)
Annie Sloan Brush (You can use any good brush, but I chose this one)
Soft Clear Wax
Minwax Ebony stain
Smart Strip
Minwax Wipe-on Poly
Lint Free cloth
Foam Brush
Putty knife
Old rag or paper towel
sanding sponge

Preparing the top of the Dresser:

Now that you have seen all the supplies, don’t get discouraged it is so easy to do. First, you need to dust off your entire piece of furniture. I pretty much use a slightly wet towel and end up wiping down anything. Then I started with the top of the dresser applying the Smart Strip. I literally applied it all over the top of the dresser with a foam brush. Then I let it sit for a few hours (or just read the instructions on the container). Of course with two little ones to take care of, I left it there for the entire day and started with it the next morning. The color of the Smart Strip is white, but once it sits on your dresser for a while it will turn into the color of the stain, then you know it is ready to be taken off. The old stain came off so easy with the putty knife, just make sure you have lots of paper towels or old rag to wipe it off. After you are done, clean it with some soapy water and scrub the remainder with your sanding sponge. When your done you will let it dry, and then you will see how pretty your wood will look. That’s my favorite part.

Staining:

It is time to stain the top of the dresser. I applied 2 coats of Minwax Ebony stain and let it dry for a day or so.

Painting the Dresser and Drawers:

First, I removed all the handles from the drawers and placed them in a safe place. Next I painted the entire dresser and drawers at the same time using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. It does not have an odor, and you do not have to prime or sand your furniture. You can paint over it immediately. It really saves you a lot of time, and having a baby I need every minute I can get. I really like Annie Sloan chalk paint because it dries so quickly. Stir the paint when you first open it. If the paint is a little thick, just add some water and stir it to get a little thinner. I applied 2 coats on everything, and I let it sit again for a day. If you have time you can do everything faster, I just had other stuff to do.

Applying Soft Clear Wax:

This is pretty easy. Get yourself a good brush and apply the wax over the entire dresser and drawers. Then you will use your lint free cloth, and start buffing and wiping it off. Before you know it, you will see this lovely shiny finish on the dresser and drawers with a smooth finish. Love it.

Applying Minwax Wipe-on Poly:

I then went back to the top of the dresser and applied 3 coats of Minwax Wipe-on Poly on it. This way you protect your beautiful dresser from scratches and so on. You basically hand rub it on with a towel. It’s very easy to use.

The reveal of my French Provincial Dresser/Buffet:

Crayon Craft Project Tutorials

I am in the process of organizing our home focusing on one room at a time. So, this time I was organizing Sophia’s craft area and while doing that I noticed that she had quite a bit of crayons. Now you can imagine what is going through my head. So after googling and searching the internet, I came up with several wonderful DIY Craft Projects.

The materials that you will need for the first craft project:

Crayons
Hot Glue (adult supervision required)
Picture Frame
Letter Print out (I used ” S”)
Hard stock paper
Knife (adult supervision required)
Cutting board

First, I traced the S Letter on some hard stock paper. Then, I literally glued the crayons on to the traced letter to form the letter S. In the curved area of the S, I placed some of the crayons on a cutting board and cut them on there and then I glued them to form the shape of the S. Once it was finished, I cut some of the crayons some more and then I placed it in the frame. Note: My frame is deep so I used the glass on the frame, but you don’t necessary have to use the glass. If you like you can always take the glass off, so the crayons won’t rub on to the glass. VOILA! and your done and you will have a pretty decorative piece of craft.

Remember we had quite a bit of crayons so now we are making our second craft project. Materials for that are:

Crayons
Hot Glue (adult supervision required)
Canvas (11×14)
Blow Dryer
Newspaper

Basically, you will glue all your crayons to the canvas where the points of the crayons are facing down. Use the hot glue to glue them securely on to the canvas. Be careful not to burn yourself, so that is why it is important for an adult to do this part. I personally recommend for you to take your project on your patio or in the garage, because it tends to sprinkle and gets a little messy. Next, get your blow dryer and put it on the hot setting and face it downwards on top of the crayons. Hold your canvas sideways so your crayons will melt and drip nicely. It will mix all the colors together and create a beautiful art piece. After you are finished, set aside to dry and before you know it, you can hang it on the wall of your little ones room.

I hope you enjoy these wonderful craft projects and since spring break is here you can use these tutorials with your kids while they are home. This way you can keep them busy!

International Day “Indonesian Outfit”

Sophia’s school is celebrating “International Day”, and each child that has a special outfit that represents their culture can dress up. They will be having a parade of all students and staff that chose to dress up. Sophia of course was really excited about it, and she wanted to wear a special outfit. Since my cultural background is Indonesian, I decided for Sophia to wear a traditional Indonesian Outfit. I already had all the sewing materials at hand, so all I had to do was sew everything and make it work.

The materials that I used to make Sophia’s Indonesian Outfit are:

Indonesian fabric (Batik)
Lace (mine was blue)

I bought the batik fabric several years ago and decided it was time to use it. I made the Sarong (skirt) and slendang -( wrap over the shoulder which is used to carry a baby in). The klambi or kebaya (is the lace blazer). It was fun to see the finished project on Sophia because it reminded me of myself when I was little wearing the same kind of outfit.

Here are some of the pictures I took of Sophia wearing her very own “Traditional Indonesian” out fit. Hope you all like it. If you have a child or someone you know that is wearing special cultural outfit feel free share it with me.
