Nailed It. Marian Newman, Nick Knight & Mimma Viglezio at the V&A

To mark the publication of nail technician Marian Newman's book, entitled Nailed It: Nails Fashion Technique, Newman joins Nick Knight and SHOWstudio's contributing Editor Mimma Viglezio for an evening of discussion at the V&A, on 10 May 2019, 7pm - 8:45pm. The discussion centres on creative collaboration in fashion.

Revealing the stories behind some of fashion's most revolutionary imagery – be this the iconic Dior campaigns of the noughties or the first ever Instagram shoot – Knight and Newman examine their contributions to the industry.

Newman’s career spans three decades, all of which have been compiled into her book. Looking to the most outrageous projects she’s worked on and sharing the processes behind her nail designs, Newman's book gives personal and artistic insights – no doubt there will be a lot to discuss!

'The Bargain Hunters' Live Stream - Nick Knight shoots Duran Lantink's collection

SHOWstudio is pleased to present the live-stream of the The Bargain Hunters fashion film shoot. Watch as Nick Knight showcases Duran Lantink's fashion creations in a series of looks styled by Simon Foxton. As part of SHOWstudio's commitment to revealing all aspects of the fashion process, the two-day event will take our viewers behind-the-scenes as we capture Lantink's collection in motion. Knight works alongside hairstylist Alfie Sackett and makeup artist Laura Dominique to ensure the work is utterly spectacular.

Duran Lantink was selected by the British Fashion Council and the British Council to represent the Netherlands at The International Fashion Showcase with his collection Straight from the Sale Bins. As supporters of emergent talent we were keen to work with Lantink. Incidentally, it was on the first day of shooting that he was announced as a nominee for the LVMH Prize 2019.

Maison Margiela and SHOWstudio present 'Reality Inverse'

SHOWstudio is pleased to unveil Reality Inverse, a short film made in collaboration with Maison Margiela and presented at London's Serpentine Gallery.

A visual dialogue between creative director John Galliano and photographer Nick Knight, the work draws on the philosophies established at the house of Margiela through recent collections; defining a new era of modern decadence, invoking new illustrative and illusionary codes.

Employing the techniques developed by Galliano in his Artisanal collections for the house and featuring Duckie Thot, the film is released in both a standard version and 360-degree vision, allowing the viewer to move freely through the image with just a click of a mouse. Transforming science fiction into science reality, crafting a real – yet unreal – physicality for the viewer.

Reality Inverse is open to the public between the 16th and 17th of February at London's Serpentine Gallery.

Anya Hindmarch launch 'The Weave Project'

To coincide with the global release of the S/S 19 Neeson bag, Anya Hindmarch launch The Weave Project – an immersive art installation to show during London Fashion Week.

The installation features The Tube, an interactive artwork created by art collective Numen/For Use. Visitors are invited to climb through The Tube – an oscillating structure of woven mesh – so that they can experience the installation from a variety of views.

As part of the The Weave Project experience, Anya Hindmarch host a café and concept store offering Weave Project merchandise and the S/S 19 Neeson collection. Visitors can personalise the Neeson bag with handwoven symbols, words and initials.

The Weave Project runs from 16 February to 19 February 2019 at Brewer Street Car Park.

Nick Knight features in Beyond Fashion, opening at ArtisTree, Hong Kong on 12 January 2019.

Showcasing a selection of works from some of the most pioneering fashion photographers - a subset previously ignored by the art world - Beyond Fashion encapsulates the move away from aesthetic snobbery, towards an all-encompassing visual culture, wherein the fashion image is given the deserved recognition for its artistic quality.

The exhibition will showcase work by over 40 of the most important fashion photographers, including Peter Lindbergh, Ellen von Unwerth, Miles Aldridge, Blommers & Schumm, Erik Madigan Heck and of course, Knight himself. Of Knight, the show features two images - one of which being Snakes, 2009 from the Alexander McQueen S/S 10 campaign. As well as this, there is a section dedicated to SHOWstudio's fashion films.

Beyond Fashion runs until 24 February 2019.

Nick Knight’s exhibition 'Still' at The Mass, Tokyo closes on 16 December 2018.

The exhibition showcases a more personal side of Knight’s career and features three distinct bodies of work, 'Flora', 'Roses, Photo Paintings', and 'Roses from My Garden'. Unlike other more conventional images of flowers, Knight’s compositions are balanced and harmonious, moving the viewer to consider the innate power of nature and its fleeting beauty.

'Still' is open at The Mass until Sunday 16 December 2018.

'Squidge' Live Stream - Nick Knight shoots Maison Margiela Artisanal A/W 18

On 15 and 16 December 2018, SHOWstudio will live stream 'Squidge', where Nick Knight will be shooting John Galliano's Maison Margiela Artisanal A/W 18 collection.

Inspired by the futuristic mood of the clothes themselves, Knight will explore new technologies in this shoot, from the innovative parabolic mirrors, to the peculiar lighting and photographic techniques. The magnificent looks, as chosen by John Galliano himself, will be seen and styled exactly how they were on the catwalk.

Nick Knight Still opens in Tokyo at The Mass on 10 November

Showcasing a perhaps more personal side of his career, Still demonstrates a constant desire to experiment in three distinct bodies, 'Flora', 'Roses, Photo paintings' and 'Roses from My Garden'. Unlike other more conventional images of flowers, Knight’s compositions are balanced and harmonious, moving the viewer to consider the innate power of nature and its fleeting beauty.

Making an international debut, the 'Roses from my Garden' series speaks to themes that Knight often grapples with. For Knight, modern photography isn't tied to any of the things it used to be - chemistry, science, printing processes. With this body of work, Knight returns to a traditional glass plate printing process to play with how we see his contemporary compositions through the lens of a traditional boundary.

The British Fashion Council has just announced the nominees for the Fashion Awards 2018. In partnership with Swarovski, the British Fashion Council will be unveiling the winners of the categories on 10 December 2018 at the Royal Albert Hall.

The Fashion Awards in partnership with Swarovski recognises creativity and innovation in fashion, celebrating exceptional individuals whose imagination and creativity has broken new ground in fashion globally over the past 12 months as well as brands and businesses that have transformed the possibilities of fashion today.

As avid supporters of young emerging talent, SHOWstudio are thrilled to see so many SHOWstudio contributors and collaborators nominated.

SHOWstudio presents 100 Women

SHOWstudio presents 100 Women, an exhibition celebrating the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in the UK.

SHOWstudio asked 100 models to select the look in which they felt the most empowered; curator Bex Cassie then appointed an artist for each look to translate into a fashion illustration.

For the first time ever, SHOWstudio will open a previously closed section of its studio to the public, dedicating the entire space as an ode to these women. In a fashion landscape where physical, sexual and financial abuse have long been the norm, this exhibition presents women and dress as carriers of the agency.

To chime with the occasion, the SHOWstudio team are curating the Tumblr for the show's first week. Head to our Tumblr Takeover for an all-round tour and behind-the-scenes content!

100 Women will be open to the public from 2 November to 31 January 2019.

Maison Margiela’s new fragrance, Mutiny, to launch at MACHINE-A

Mutiny, the new fragrance by Maison Margiela, will be launching at MACHINE-A this Thursday! First unveiled in Paris at the S/S 19 show, the perfume launch marks John Galliano’s first at the house of Maison Margiela.

To celebrate the launch, MACHINE-A will be hosting a special installation in store this Thursday, 18 October 18:00 to 21:00 on 13 Brewer Street, London W1F 0RH. A personal engraving service will be available during the event.

Val Garland releases her first book, Validated

Fashion’s leading makeup artist Val Garland has released her first book, Validated, sharing her career highlights and the inspiration behind some of her most iconic looks. From sexy to savage, raw to colour chaos, the book charts the key themes surrounding Val’s work alongside backstage imagery and anecdotes from leading industry figures.

Best known for her inimitable aesthetic, unorthodox approach and radical creative energy, her work has spanned the runways of Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen, and the campaigns of Dior and Mulberry.

Val once told Nick Knight in our ‘Transformative’ series, ‘Often I don’t like being in front of the camera. I’d rather be behind it.’ A rare insight into the world of an industry visionary, Val speaks for the first time about working with the likes of Kate Moss, Edward Enninful, John Galliano, Nick Knight and more – revealing the processes behind her numerous creative collaborations.

Shirin Neshat's portrait of Malala Yousafzai revealed at The National Portrait Gallery

The National Portrait Gallery has unveiled a picture of Nobel Peace Laureate Malala Yousafzai shot by Shirin Neshat at SHOWstudio last spring. Shirin took a second portrait of Malala which will be unveiled at Birmingham Museum in 2020.

Iranian-born artist and film-maker Shirin Neshat has inscribed by hand in calligraphy on to the portraits a poem, in Yousafzai’s honour, by the Pashtu poet Rahman Shah Sayel.

Here at SHOWstudio there was obvious excitement on the day of Malala’s arrival. Neshat said at first she felt intimidated, “Yet as she arrived at the studio to be photographed,” she said, “I was immediately taken aback by her timid, gentle and innocent demeanour. To this day, when I look back on our encounter, I am left with impressions of humility, wisdom and a rare sense of inner beauty.”

We are delighted to announce an exclusive ALYX for SHOWstudio capsule collection! The collection launches with the fourth edition of the ALYX Nick Knight catalogue titled, NEW HAPPINESS LOVE CHAOS.

The capsule collection features Nick Knight imagery from all editions of these catalogues, printed on iconic ALYX pieces. The collection includes tee shirts, bomber jackets, and sweatshirts as well as accessories such as the cross body bag, wallet and scarf, featuring vivid imagery from the series.
