Scottish nationals - `discussion re 5th 6th May

Hello,
Yesterday evening I spent some time chatting with some people about the possibilities regarding running another round of the Scottish Nationals Paragliding Series this weekend. Yesterday Rasp forecasts were showing the Borders / Tinto areas as being the most epic - today the goodness has spread a bit as well as moving Northwards so that a repeat of last weekend is also on the cards.

The decision is to not run a round on the 5th and 6th May 2012 for the following reasons :-

Winbeat / Borders no sites available due to lambing.
LLSC - Tinto - prefer to tie in with the Tinto BBQ and Wiston Hall has not been arranged.
The Aberdeen round was last weekend I don`t want people to become weary of the format and it is a long time since such a strong task has been called for this entry level competition and with such a good turnout)
It is a Bank holiday weekend so I don`t want to jeopardise peoples existing plans ...

The forecasts are great (There is clearly an inverse correlation between my availability and good flying weather!) Here are Saturday and Sundays Rasp forecasts - have a great weekend - flying or otherwise and the weather will continue to be watched so further rounds of this friendly and entry level competition can be arranged in due course.

Scottish Nationals Paragliding Series this weekend ...

The first round of the Scottish Nationals Paragliding Series 2012 is happening this weekend (28th / 29th April) alongside the AHPC Spring competition. The forecast is good so why not join Scott Mather et al by meeting at the Taste Cafe in Braemar between 10.30 and 11am on Saturday 28th April 2012. Initial thoughts are Morrone but further West may be an option ... due to the Rasp forecast ...

Scottish Nationals Paragliding Series 30/3-1/4 -not happening

Well - over the last 24 hours the weather forecasts for the coming weekend have deteriorated quite significantly from somewhat epic looking to too windy. The result is that the initial tentative plans being put in place in the Borders with Tommy have to be cancelled. The Scottish Nationals Paragliding Series is therefore RED for the weekend 31st March / 1st April.
The weather etc will be watched over the following weeks and if conditions look favourable then more status posts will be made - here`s hoping...

Scottish Nationals Paragliding Series - 31/03-01/04/12

Rasp, XC Weather, Met office websites, prayers to weather gods etc are all being used on a regular basis and as Tweeted yesterday the status for the coming weekend has been set - and remains as - Amber.
A firmer decision will be made on Thursday evening and hopefully this will be followed by a rendezvous for Saturday 31st March being set by Friday evening.
Certainly the forecasts are looking interestingly good - so I would like to suggest that you strongly pencil into your diary attendance this weekend. The first round of the friendly Scottish Nationals Paragliding Series in 2012 ... location tbc.... could well be imminent...

Scottish Nationals Paragliding series 24th/25th March

I have been poring over Rasp and after some consideration I suspect that the 24/25th March for the Aberdeen round will not be happening - sorry.
To me it looks like the conditions are basically going to be the poorest (most overcast) in Aberdeenshire!
Thus the Aberdeen round will be postponed to the end of the summer (or perhaps it will change into The Scottish Open if this proceeds on a specific earlier date)
The Scottish Nationals Paragliding Series is pencilled in for the Borders in April so hopefully see you there soon for the start of this friendly, entry level paragliding competition..

Good evening,
I have just had a chat with Jules and with the forecast as it is for 17+18th March 2012 it is likely that there will be flying somewhere in Scotland but it wont be a Scottish Nationals Paragliding Series weekend. So get your wing out and try to get some airtime before we can arrange the first round in this friendly entry level paragliding competition.

SHPF Ratho Repack - I hope that everyone knows about this but just in case you did not - here is a reminder to come along this Saturday !

This Saturday - 4th February 2012 Reserve Deployments, Repacks, SHPF AGM and Workshops commence from 9am at the EICA, Ratho near Edinburgh and full details can be found here : - (http://www.shpf.co.uk/shpf-Ratho-Repack.php) participation costs £30.
Bring your family or friends to use all the other great facilities at Ratho at a discount and make an excellent day of it.

Amongst the workshops we are very pleased to have Steve Nash and Richard Bungay who - as Team GB1 - will be talking about their experiences in the Redbull X-Alps 2011 event - this will commence at 5pm and costs an additional £5 to attend.

Class E Airspace between Edinburgh and Glasgow - Closed ....

The Class E airspace between Edinburgh and Glasgow that we could fly in has now been closed. See the original NATS document here or as a copy within the SHPF Google Documents here.
At least the Class D lower llimit has been raised from 2500ft to 3000ft.

Highland round of Scottish Nationals 3rd + 4th Sept 11

The Highlands round of this friendly Paragliding competition is scheduled for this weekend the 3rd + 4th September. With the forecast as it is it has been decided that their will be a leisurely start to the day with meet up at 3pm with flying expected therafter at

Scottish Nationals - 30/31st July -Borders - Status RED

After a fair amount of calling around, humming and hawing, poring over internet weather pages etc it has been decided that the Borders round of The Scottish Nationals Paragliding series will not take place this weekend.

The next scheduled event (6th + 7th August) is the Arran round and more details will be made available nearer the time.
