Food Grade Bucket question

Doc's right about where to find buckets and lids. I can't speak to the permeability of mylar but I know that some of those buckets the hardware stores sell an claim are food-grade might not be. Even with the 2 HVPE label, if they aren't marked specifically as food-grade, then they aren't. This is per the FDA.

Thoughts on Modern Militia and their ability to fight

Lump, I think that's a great idea. IF they aren't tools and can answer intelligently I say that'd make a great show, or series of shows, depending on how this develops.

I think there are many ways that Militia can be useful. I think if training and standards were taken seriously, they could be somewhat ready for a combat role IF need be, but aside from Economic Collapse or something else just as catastrophic, they'd fill a much better role with in their communities. In a SHTF situation, like say we had a major quake here in the Pacific North West, Militia could offer assistance to local LE.

Minutemen are a form of Militia, are they not? They go down and help Border Patrol do their job, although in a more limited role I think. We all recognize that Law Enforcement and Border Patrol are short handed a lot of the times, and especially so when LE has to deal with a major disaster. While doing things like helping with disaster relief may not be their ideal role to play, I think it would be crucial and beneficial, both for their image and most importantly their communities. And serving your communities is the same as serving your country. We may never have war in this country like the Civil War ever again (I hope not), but that doesn't mean there isn't something important that can be done.

How could they help LE during a disaster.... If local Militia coordinated with local PD, they could assist with rescue, they could assist with general security given Rules Of Engagement with a goal of settling more minor things (you aren't going to be forensics experts or anything), traffic control for evacuations, as guides in to areas that non local LE or Emergency Services wouldn't know about....

I may have been a bit abrasive in the way I wrote about them here, but with the exception of the Minutemen that have a goal of helping patrol the borders (I don't know the full role Minutemen intend to fill), all I mostly see of them are a bunch of good ole boys sitting round and admiring their latest toys. That is a broad brush, but I tend to think those that are exceptional are the exception rather than the rule. There are some out there with specific political or religious overtones that are just plain creepy sometimes.

One of my concerns is that during something like a Collapse, these Militias will end up as private Armies for those that are power hungry, setting up little fiefdoms.

I have considered joining one before but changed my mind. For one, the Feds are all over that sort of stuff and I don't care to be more on their radar than I already am, IF I am. And for another, I just can't see myself doing such a thing.

Thay shut down the military manual.

As of Dec 15, 2011, as a result of the controversial Domestic Legislation, National Defense Authorization Act of 2012, HR 1867, I decided that it would in the best interest of everyone using this website to remove many Military Field Manuals. Field manuals, by the way, can be found elsewhere on the internet.

I'm no weekly viewer of "The Simpsons" (any more). But I do watch their special episodes and I never miss the "Tree House of Horrors" Sunday night the writers were at their best.

Not as many BAD survival and prepper ideas and zero scenes with a lesson about, "don't do this if you want to stay alive", but there were a ton of Pop Culture / TV & movie references. I may go back and list them.

The only difference is ZERO has NO BUSINESS being in office at all. It is a CITIZENS position.

What kind of society do we want? The two extremes offered, the nanny state where everything is provided to the sheeple, or the survival of the fittest where nothing is available unless you have obtained it yourself, by whatever means and cost. Neither is sustainable.

In my opinion, until we reach critical mass where as a species it is realized without caring for those unable to do so AND everybody must contributes whatever they are able to we are doomed. The species quite simply is not evolved far enough to recognize the peril we have created for ourselves.

The critical mass I speak of is 3~5% of the population having the understanding and willingness to share and spread the message. I feel we are at somewhere around 2%. The "sheeple" will follow whichever message is strongest. Our current "leaders" are not. Will we become an extinct species leaving an incredible legacy for a future, as yet unknown, species to dig up our fossil remains and study our stupidity?

I lost my Tool & Blade Sharpening Guide that I've had for eons. It literally had a mammoth foot print on it. It was a simple list with the tool in one column, the proper working angle in the second column. It had typical garden tools listed, shovels, spades, hoes. hedge clippers, branch lopping shears, machete, blah, blah, blah.

I can't find my printed copy and I cannot find a similar guide online. Does anyone have such a guide or know where there is one online I can download. I can fake it if need be, but I'd rather have another guide. I do have stuff that can't be faked. I 'inherited' all my father-in-laws yard tools a few years back. I'm in the process of rehabing all that and not a single item he owned has a edge. I have an axe, that he left in the yard SOOOO long, the handle rotted off!

Anyway, if there's a list like that around, I'd love to get a copy for the shop wall.

(my brother asked me why I didn't have the angles memorized by now. I asked him who his 3rd Grade Teacher was and he knew. I asked him where his car keys were...he said he hopes I find a new list!)

It would appear that fresh air and sunlight have done 50% of the work. The canvas is almost de-scented and the leather has less 'mung' on it now. It's supposed to be sunny and (dare I say in Feb) almost 75 tomorrow. I'm going to hang them in the sun again, ALL day, then try to clean the leather up and dress it.

Then begin gathering all the 3 day stuff I need, times 2, and fill those bad BOBs up to the brim.

Congressional representative Allen West summed up the American people's feelings for the Obama administration today when he told Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to, "Get the hell out of The United States of America!". His talk can be seen here.

Ten people will be murdered today in Mexico with guns provided to drug cartels by Eric Holder, the United States Attorney General. Politicians are calling for him to resign. Resign??

There is enough evidence presented to Congress to arrest him and prosecute him for an Act of War against the nation of Mexico, accessory to murder of thousands of innocent citizens in Mexico and America as well as the murder of United States Border Patrol agent Brian Terry. Resign?? Besides sending illegal guns to Mexico, Holder and his associates sold guns to criminal street gangs inside the United States where the guns will be used inside the United States. It will take years to find the thousands of guns these criminals sold to killers.

Eric Holder and his criminal operatives in his office and the Department of Justice need to be dragged out in handcuffs, jailed with no bail and put on trial with a jury of American citizens who are not federal government employees.
Like a dead chicken being plucked, Obama has lost his power and his support. Six months or so ago, French President Sarkozy called Obama, "Insane". Other world leaders have publicly called him incompetent and other derogatory names.

one thing for sure that in middle tennessee they know your mailing address, they sent you property tax statements. and where the receipt is mailed to.
