A fan favorite podcast on our network, IDO was a concept thought up by Wend and Will, and offered to Ian after his appearance on Episode 11 of the main show. Ian then took the show and made it his own, crafting the format, segments, and making it the AMAAAAAZING podcast it was. Will and Todd showcase a compilation of many of Ian’s greatest moments at Sideshow including many laughs, fond memories, great music, and words of remembrance from our friends, colleagues, and dear listeners.

Ian always worked harder for our podcast than anyone, especially at a time when the rest of us couldn’t give our time so freely. There wasn’t a week that went by when Ian didn’t have some amaaazing new idea or content for the podcast, whether it was an episode of his shows, In Defence Of, and Sideshow & Tell, or one of his many interviews with top composers in the industry. All this work took a lot of time to set up behind the scenes, copious amounts of research, and more time than many of us could manage, even on our best day. He was a gifted podcaster and interviewer that will be sorely missed and forever remembered.

Among his many talents, Ian had a vast knowledge of cinema that brought an element to the show we were missing, along with a dose of humour and interview style our listeners adored. We experienced a boost in listenership thanks to Ian’s personality, voiceovers, skits, shows, and interviews, and we know he befriended and spoke to many of you on a regular basis.

Thank you so much for all the love and kind comments we’ve received about Ian since his passing. Your support means a lot at this difficult time. Given Ian’s tireless commitment to our podcast network over the years, he deserves a huge send-off!

Yesterday, our friend Ian Crabb was laid to rest in Bournemouth. In honor of him, we want to present you with his favorite episode of In Defence Of, a show he proudly hosted with distinction on our network, from 2015 to 2017. That episode was Alien 3, a film Ian felt very strongly was unfairly maligned.

In many ways, this episode was the epitome of what Ian had always hoped IDO would be – a film that divided people being discussed in engaging, thoughtful ways. It was also a thrill for him to cohost alongside Erik Woods, who joined us on this episode. As we prepare for his celebration episode, to be released later this week, we hope you’ll join us in remembrance of Ian, as we revisit his favorite episode of In Defence Of.

Through the inventive approach of postmodern techniques, the composer employs atonality, dissonance, ostinatos and minimalist techniques to achieve a sound wholly original, for 90s action scores in particular. If the power of The Hollywood Studio Symphony, a 40-piece choir and boy soprano Theo Lebow weren’t enough, the soundtrack also features a collection of songs chosen by the directors that are almost equally well-loved in-context and we shall dive into some of these also, at the end of the show.

For today’s episode, we provide a healthy dose of toe-tapping dixieland jazz in That Happy Rag, The Humphrey Hop, and 1925 in all their various iterations over the years and their magnum opus in the Autoparts Harmonic Orchestra at the 1964 New York World’s Fair.

Rachel and Todd return us to the present to finish the show In the Parks in New Orleans Square over at Disneyland!
