second encounter

this is the 2nd time i encounter this.

The 1st time was in sg. when i was walking home from MRT after work, this boy, around 12 years old bump into me and tell me a big story about him lost his wallet and bla bla bla, got me to lend him 20 over dollars, i open my wallet only have 15 dollars or so, then i lent him 12 dollars in the end and i had 3 dollars left for my dinner.

This time is in the airport in Bangkok. This chinese couple came up to me and asked me to lend them some money. Lost wallet, need to change air ticket to go home, bla bla bla. They asked for 2000 thai baht, i open my wallet only have 1000+ THB. cant do anything and ended up going to the ATM to withdraw money to lend it to them. They went off with my namecard and address.

I hope they are really people in trouble and they are good people. :(

Chinese new year is finally over, gotta pack up my mood and back to work. Everything should be back to normal. Its great to have a whole week break, relax and rest at home. The time is definitely enjoyable, and that exactly made life tougher when it gets back to real life.

During the chinese New year, the opportunity to meet up with all old friends is definitely the best part of it. Most people have started working and the common topics have changed since university time. During the university time, some might complain about work, some complain about FYP, some about projects or internships. But now its all about work, money, investment, and such.

One thing so obvious is that all of us have started worrying about money and nolonger free like before. All of us are thinking or finding ways to increase our $ or earn more $ or side income. This is the time when life hits!
People start considering about all sorts of options of making money including saving plans and shares or unit trust or all sorts. calculating expenses and comparing salaries/benefits.

Today i heard there is another colleague who have just resigned. probably he got a better job somewhereelse or maybe its just that he is so fedup with the current job. Whatever it is, everyone keeps looking for better opportunities. hoping one day, we live a better life, being able to give more to people we love, in terms of time and money or quality of life.

To everyone who is struggling out there. You are not alone.

Been another long time since i last updated my blog, once again i manage to convince myself to update it before i go home for chinese new year celebration. of course this update will be a continuation of whats been happening i guess.

Ever since my last post in July, i have landed myself a job. As a sales and application engineer. Its basically a half engineer half sales job, where i have to meet some customer to understand their requirement and try to recommend product which can solve the problem. Its sort of a technical sales position. But when i first join the company in August, its actually a singapore based company where the founder/CEO is a msian/singaporean but recently it got acquired by an US MNC. Well, not exactly recently but last year around november/december. Its been almost 2-3 months after the acquisition, many have been said to be changed but has yet to be implemented. I guess most of the time change is slow and especially when it involves MNC. Lots of red tapes, essentially our name has changed but nothing else. Not our salary, not much of the management, not much of the structure. But according to the news, management/structure will experience some changes soon. Hopefully the salary side comes sooner.

Besides work, i have been interested in finding out more about passive income in recent days. More and more people are aware about passive income these days and everyone is looking for it. but what is the correct way? what is the most effective way? is there a specific and easy to produce way? of course i dont have much idea.

Other than that, its going to be chinese new year soon, will be back home for a week or so. Hope to enjoy my new year and come back energized, so that i dont have to drag myself to work anymore. :D

not a good feeling

I have been going for all sorts of interview recently. Some interesting, some not so. But after every interview, there are usually 2 results.

One is you feel that you have done reasonably well in the interview and you probably stand a good chance of getting a job, expecting a call from the company, and end up super disappointed and dont understand why.

Second is you feel like you have been punched on the face, the punch is fierce and hard, straight on your face, probably around your nose area, you cant breath much and been hit to the ground. That feeling sucks, it is like you have been through so many years of dont know what. You go through a reflection feeling that you have just wasted your past 20 over years and suddenly you found yourself in the middle of no where, standing all alone, have no idea how to go. It takes awhile before you can regain consciousness and start figuring out where you are.

I dont like either of them, but probably everytime you got hit, it shows that you are not doing well enough.

Lost. again.

its a weird feeling. I have graduated. Have been applying to all sorts of jobs and unsure of what i really want.

Sometimes i just feel like im not ready to get into a career. I havent identified what i would enjoy doing for the rest of my life, and sometimes felt like i needed more time to do more soul searching. Im at a stage where im not sure of what is happening to my life and im unsure of what to do...perhaps i need some extra experience to gather my thoughts and understand myself better.

One way of thinking it is i am not sure and i needed more time, more freedom to experience and explore something worth the rest of my life. That i believe require alot of try and error and reflection, but i dont know whats stopping me. maybe its peer pressure? everyone of the same age have found a job and is working and are living independent life. Maybe its financial pressure ? that i have a huge amount of outstanding loan to repay. maybe its just life pressure that i feel like i should be working at this stage, after so many years of education.

Another way of thinking it is that there are no such thing as perfect job or a job that you enjoy. it only exists for super small percentage of human beings and most of them are people who have been super uber successful in their career, they quit their career and startup a new business which they heart and see opportunity in.

talking about the i needed more time to explore and stuff like that. I felt that one thing education failed to do to me, or at least i wished education or someone have taught me that it is important to do soul searching and know yourself, life is too short and the years in ur education are the only times where you can afford to spend time and look into yourself. I failed to do that in the past i dont know how many years. Education has successfully driven knowledge and skills perhaps into our mind but have failed to help and assist us in looking for our true self. At least i think my education has not achieved that purpose. Perhaps it is set that way, customized to feed in skills and knowledge to grow the economy of a country or region. that explains why people have so little sense of satisfaction and fulfillment in life and only worked for money and perhaps a career that is not too taxing. im not sure if im going too far away but at the moment i felt like there is a need to understand myself and understand my purpose, else i wont find any job interesting or meaningful. at the same time i feel like i dont have the luxury to find that out.

Probably i should just end up like everybody else, be a product of an education factory, work hard in life, get some money and there goes another normal story.

dont worry if you dont understand what i have written. I dont either. I wished I do. But no, i dont.

i guess its human's nature to be greedy. When you dont have it you would say things like "give me anything and i will take"

When you are actually being offered A, you would start to reconsider if A is good enough, would i get something better than A? do i deserve something better than A? and you start looking around for B, which is probably better than A.

And we start thinking, if i get B, i will take it and look further no more. But im guessing it never happens, either we never get B or we start looking for C,D,E..........

We end up never be happy with what we have because we kept looking for what we dont have.

Pray for me so that i get B and not just A... :P

seems like its been more than 2 months since i updated this space.

well, whats happening is that i have graduated. have not found a job. Hopefully soon. Job hunting is definitely not so good an experience for me. The feeling is horrible when you send out so many copies of your resume and not single one replied. waiting for phone calls everyday but the phone never rings. i hope i get a job soon.

Anyways, I submitted my FYP, did the presentation, took the final paper in NUS, and results are out. So it says i passed everything. I suppose that means graduation. So what im waiting for now is 6th of July, the comencement ceremony in NUS. U know, the usual thing, u wear a weird dress, go to the stage and get a scroll, then come out and throw ur hat or something. snap some pictures. Thats it. Thats about it.

On a side note, i was quite lucky or maybe unlucky to get a job which allowed me to travel to Shanghai for a week. Lucky for the good treatment i get in the job, 1 week in SH and another week in KL for work. the job is all perfect. except that i was not able to go to some walk in interview career fair held in school where alot of company did their mass recruitment. a few friends manage to secure a job there and i couldnt make it because i was away. Which causes my struggling now to get a job.

Also, recently moved out of campus to a decent place near clementi. The only thing is of course $, its much more expensive than staying in campus, while im not working and have zero income(almost, i do some part time work enough to give me food), spending everyday is stressful. Thinking about not having any job and spending all the $, you gotta check out your account everyday and know when you are going to run out of money. suddenly after graduation, $ become such a huge thing. Its like in university, everything comes from home, after graduation, you feel like you gotta start working and earn ur own spendings, not to mention bring $ home. This kinda made the feeling of not having a job worse.

And the worse part is that sending out more resume doesnt seem to help. Companies do not reply you. They dont. They just dont.

When people say time flies does it mean that time is passing by really fast ?

I think its true sometimes and its not sometimes. I think this year 2010 passes relatively fast, its been 25 days into the year, thats almost a month's time.and within the next 2 weeks its gonna be Chinese new year, a break for most of us.Gonna be going home,celebration, cathching up with friends and all.

But at this moment im at work. time doesnt fly here. Maybe because im also flying now, so time fly and i fly, thats why time is not moving to me. Its all about relative velocity you see. Cant blame me ok, im an engineer, we talk physics all the time. Well,not exactly, we dont even talk about physics these days, we talk about heat transfer. Eww...such disgusting topic right. who wanna talk about heat transfer, arent we hot enough? its Global Warming !!

All right, if you manage to read up till here, you are awesome, i just wasted my 5 minutes typing random stuff to kill your 20seconds. well done, you successfully wasted 20 seconds of your life and if you are still reading then its 22 and still counting.

Im sure everyone can sense my boredom now. Bluek.

with all the decorations on the streets...

christmas are fun i guess but i dont remember having any real countdown or celebration on the streets.

Its great to have a weekend i realize. And i foresee the long one will be even better.

Has been 2 weeks after i started my internship, which obviously requires me to wake up early in the morning and rush to work taking 40minutes bus and train. now that i have realized its hard in the working world in the previous post where there were really not much time on weekdays to do anything u like to. now i realize its great to have a weekend. The reason i said so is because i woke up at 3pm today. no reason. just too nice to sleep.

Altho i did wake up at 730 once. coz used to it.

Another time at 9+. went back to sleep coz the weather is just too nice.

another time at 11+. thought that i should wake up, so i did wake up turn on my laptop and went on facebook after 20 minutes figured that i should embrace the great weekend and end up waking at 3pm. Life is great !

Well ok....life is great (only when i can sleep as long as i want to and can choose to do nothing)

So it was nothing productive until dinner time (expected when u wake up at 3) and now i just got started off with my FYP...playing around with the software that im supposed to be expert by now. trying to figure out where to find info and how to input stuffs.

For some reason i tot that my blog have not been updated for a while so i decided to write some stuff here. :P

O yea, NLDS is over i heard. I only went for the global village part and gala dinner..and dropped by opening plenary of 1st day and skulling too. other than that i didnt know what happened throughout the thing. But u just cant miss the fact that a conference is over because u will see a flood of people adding each other and uploading pics and commenting and tagging.

i mean its obvious right..who will upload album named "NLDS-part 7" if the conference is still going on. or who will go and tag a picture of almost 50 people and keep commenting on pics if the conference is not over.

work life balance

Its my 3rd day at work today. By the time i reached my room its already 815 and i havent had dinner. Everyday in the morning i had to get out of my room by 8am and basically the life repeats itself. I wonder if this will be the working life after grad.

Life is repetitive, on one hand the internship im doing is interesting. The company do stuff related to developing renewable energy, CDM, carbon trading and all sorts and its exciting to be in the industry. Im still trying to absorb as much as i can everyday and i found something interesting to work on. The office environment is great, very flexible, very challenging but at the same time it takes up so much time. 1 hour to travel to work, another hour back. Thats my life. But from what i see from some colleague at work, they leave work later than me. god knows what time they leave the office.

Now i see the point of work life balance. means u have work and life balanced out.

That means if you have 24 hours a day, 12 hours will be your life. and the other 12 will be....obviously work !!

of the 12 hours of work, you obviously have to work + travel to work + lunch

of the 12 hours of "life", you obviously need to include dinner, breakfast, shower, prepare for work, sleep, shopping, laundry, and do whatever you want. Assume that you have more that you want to do which is the usual case for most people, then u might have to cut time off dinner, or breakfast, or less sleep for you....unless u choosing not to shower.

So most people end up having not much time for what they want to do.

wouldnt life be boring if its so repetitive?

So waddup with the coming few weeks.

Exams. Its been half past study week in NUS and exams are starting on 25th which is next wednesday. After the 3rd paper on 2nd december i will be free for about a month before stepping into the final semester. exciting but scary at the same time, having the thoughts of no more exams are great but job hunting, loan repayment and the reality will hit hard.

Anyways, after paper on 2nd december, its gonna be slacking for a few days with a trip to Genting on the night of 4th dec. After which i have to rush back to start my internship. O yea, thats the internship i went for interview on tuesday and got it. so my december gonna be spent on this internship besides working on my FYP, but the good thing is both of them are somewhat related. Am glad that many things are falling into place right now. Im lucky :D

And plans for CNY already made, will be back home from thursday til the next sunday nite. its gonna be the longest CNY break i have had. I guess after CNY will be very busy with final FYP preps, exams prep, job hunting and mentally preparing for life.

Though am still hoping to go somewhere after grad, but seems like financially its not gonna be something big...that is if there is gonna be something.

Life is great. :D

After spending 3+ years in singapore, today is the only day i experience kiasu-ness to the max !

I just came back from a test. It was a final exam, 35% for one of my module. The prof mentioned that its a open book, open notebook, open laptop, open watever test. So it sounded scary at first but later the prof sent an email about the test timing and venue and other stuff, he specifically mentioned laptop are not necessary for the test in the email, which i think he bold it.

So this morning i happily (stupidly) not bring my laptop going for the test. Reaching the classroom it was ok until everyone who came in the 1st thing they do is switch on their laptop. Until i saw the class of 30 people with 29 laptops(u and me know who didnt bring his laptop)

ARGH !!

Am i just lacking the kia part of kiasuness or am i just pure dumb.

Anyways, with the laptop maybe there wont be much difference. but the feeling of im dumb coz i didnt bring it keeps coming back...

perhaps i could have gotten 2 or 4 more marks for the test with my laptop. who knows.

Was checking out my friends blog just now and suddenly i saw she uploaded a video of her on tv !

Since she work so hard to get on tv, so i gotta share the video and her blog add here so more people can see it right.

Basically is about an interview of her and a group of artist into this thing of making miniature stuff. Things can be as small as a 5 cent coin. Tho the size is tiny mini, there are lots of details and the things actually look quite real. I guess alot of people are amazed by how nice these things are.

The prof in one of my module said something interesting today. About the designing of systems for buildings, he said something must cater to the heating requirement. And somehow he explained that it is because if its hot, people can feel uncomfortable and at most sweat but if its too cold, people might fall sick and die.

Its interesting because it reminds me of one of the days in my primary school, one of my teacher also said something similar. I remember it was in the morning and some of my classmates were complaining that its too cold and ask the teacher to switch off the fan. The teacher asked the class and some others complaint that it will be too hot if the fan is off.

The teacher then asked who wants the fan off and a few put up their hands. Then she asked who wants the fans on and a few others put up their hands.

Then she said, we should turn off the fan because its ok if we feel abit hot. But for those who feel cold, they can fall sick if we keep the fan on. That explains why she asked us to switch off the fan.

I dont know why but for some reason this scene is actually stucked in my head for so many years and i still remember some details of it.

Check out any list of headlines, u see words like rape, hijack, attack, bomb, kills. Are those the only happenings around the world? If only we have a news website which only reports the good news.

Just this random thought i went to google goodnews and here i found there are really such websites. reports only good news. check out goodnewsnetwork and happynews. They might not be as popular as cnn, but i think people these days need a dose of them from time to time. Life cant be great when u are surrounded by those negative headlines.

Talked to some @ers recently and i realized something special about them. Some of these people really believe that they gotta do something. they have a role to play in the world. Probably too much brainwashing, but we do believe that we can change the world. Having a decent job is not enough. Life cant just stop there after u go through this weird XP thingy.

They feel like making a living with a day to day job is not enough. getting a stream of decent income is not enough. making the impact to themselves and their family is not enough. With the "we can change the world" kind of attitude, more and more people are looking at jobs that can make a difference not only to themselves and their family, but to the society and the world. I am inspired. Thats how the hardwork we have spent so much time in is changing the world. creating change agent. Change agents who are not satisfied with the impact they make to the world.

So many people have been job hunting recently while im still confused about what i gonna do after i graduate. Im pretty sure that i wan a job that can inspire me. something that i can be passionate about. something that helps me feel like im making a difference.

Im glad that some people are clear about their dreams, no matter how hard it is, they gonna keep moving to that direction. I feel sad that some people are stuck in where they are, hating their job but yet, cant move away from it.

I guess it really takes alot of courage to go for something that u really want. I congratulate those who have the courage to give up whatever they need to do something to their life. I hope that those who havent got the courage will have it soon enough. Life might be better, or it might be not, but its probably gonna keep us moving and waking up in the morning again.

I wonder if i will find the thing that will wake me up every morning in the future.

I go to get drinks in the kitchen again.

Somehow this process repeats itself for a few times.

Cant stand it.

I packed my stuff. I get down to TV room.

A place with air con.

But its packed.

Packed with groups of people.

A group of them playing cards.

A group of them waiting to get out to party.

A group of them with laptops.

A group of them just chatting.

Im not in a group and there were no space.

I went to another TV room nearby.

There is another guy in there.

Alone too.

I joined him.

I got my aircon.

I am happy.
