It’s 2012

We took our first road trip, started our 2nd year of preschool (much smoother than the year before!!!), and just had a really really fun year. It was also a really healthy year. I am so thankful for that.

What will 2012 bring? They will be turning five. Kindergarten (and therefore a new school, and therefore a big new transition). And now that it’s officially 2012, it’s more real than ever. And time will fly. Yes, I’m scared. Yes, I will be praying a lot. I will be staying positive, and I’ll try my best to prepare them for this next step.

My Dear Sweet Piggies, There is so much to look forward to this year! Things that will be tough, no doubt. But we will, no doubt, have bunches more fun. Give bunches more hugs and kisses, and have bunches more giggles. Mama and Dada love you.

Breakfast in a Cup and Apple Strudel on Multiples in the Kitchen

For this month’s Multiples in the Kitchen post on the Multiples and More Blog Network, the girls and I made Breakfast in a Cup.

And last month, we made a dessert perfect for fall and winter, Apple Strudel. Thanks again and again to Steph @ Pendants by Steph for sharing her recipe! We’ve made this many times, even in little individual strudels for our Thanksgiving preschool potluck last month.

Proposed Changes to the English Language, From Sophie

Dear English,

To increase efficiency and accuracy in my daily life with my clueless Mama, I hereby suggest the following changes:

1) Addition of the phrase “Too Lot”: This would be a combination of the phrases “a lot” and “too much”. For example, when my Mama puts not just a lot, but waaay too much water in my toothbrush cup and it spills onto my sleeve, I would say “There’s too lot, Mama.” This expression would truly convey to her the grievous error in her ways.

2) Combining the words “Parsley” and “Leaves” to “Parsleaves”: I see that it is not yet a word, as it has a red squiggly underneath. But there was one time where I wanted to touch the parsley leaves at the supermarket but Mama pushed the cart (and me in it) away, saying we were in a hurry. We? I wasn’t in a hurry. Anyways, combining the phrase into one word would save time, increasing my chances of pawing everything I want to in every grocery aisle, making a mess and causing everything to fall down on the floor and then staring blankly at it as Mama rushes to clean it up. So I hope that the red squiggly underneath this word will disappear soon.

3) Changing “Turquoise” to “Dark Light Blue”: My wardrobe consists of many colors of the same pair of pants, which I find oppressive enough already. So Mama buys these pants in dark blue, light blue, and this color in between called turquoise. I find the latter word to be completely exasperating and I refuse to say it. I feel that “Dark Light Blue” is more accurate. Even though making one word into three words may seem to take longer (unlike proposed changes 1 and 2), I feel the sacrifice in time is worth it to achieve further accuracy. Therefore, when I say I want to wear blue pants, and Mama asks which blue pants, I can tell her “Dark Light Blue” instead of folding my arms and grumping around in complete irritation thus ruining my whole day.

I am sure I will have more changes to follow. In the meantime, please implement these as soon as possible, as I feel that these changes will benefit all that speak you.

(Note: to recite our prayer before meals, just replace “night-night” with “the food”. And sometimes we tack on Moses and Noah at the end.)

Banana Sushi on Multiples in the Kitchen

Oh dear.

Looks like the last time I posted here was a month ago, when I announced my previous Multiples in the Kitchen post.

D’oh.

Anywhoo…the girls and I made Banana Sushi for this month’s post! We learned how to use knives for cutting food and spreading sweet stuff on bread. Head on over to see how we made it.

Hogs and Quiches on Multiples in the Kitchen

The girls helped me make a quiche for this month’s Multiples in the Kitchen post on the Multiples and More Blog Network.

The most awesome part was the girls each successfully cracked an egg for the first time. Now they can make me breakfast in bed, right?

As I transferred the crust to the pan, they thought it was funny. Dunno why.

The most controversial part was the scattering of ham, broccoli and cheese into the crust. There was some bossing around involved about the exact placement of filling pieces.

Eeewww Sand

My girls don’t mind playground sand.

In fact, they love it.

I pour it out of their shoes when they come home from school.

I, however, get the heebie jeebies from playground sand. I’m trying to get over it. And Lo Gung keeps rolling his eyes at me when I brush myself off as if there are locusts covering me.

I don’t want them to inherit my neuroses. I mean, look at them…they’re having fun. I don’t want to take away from that.

While Lo Gung doesn’t understand this particular neurosis (and there are many), he was willing to distract me with funny faces. And I was willing to play along, so it was working.

Multiples in the Kitchen: Baked Zucchini Sticks

While Dada BBQ’ed on 4th of July, the girls and I made Baked Zucchini Sticks!

They had a blast…

…though it got a little messy

But they turned out yummy!

I’ve posted the recipe and more pictures today in my monthly Multiples in the Kitchen post at the Multiples and More Blog Network. It was a super easy and yummy recipe that we have made several times already.
