OPLove or Operation : Love Reunited is a non-profit organization that offers FREE Pre-deployment, Deployment and Homecoming Photography Sessions for members of the military.

Bradley is coming home after a few months of serving in Qatar. Jessica and their family are fetching him in the Charleston Air Force Base.

A friend of Jessica’s gave her this sticker for her car that says, “If I’m speeding, it’s cuz I’m going to pick up My Husband! My HERO is home from Qatar!” She definitely did not get caught speeding, and she even had some cars honk at her.

Jessica literally had her hands like this the entire time the plane was landing. So much anticipation.

The plane arrived a few hours earlier than originally planned. They were probably really excited to get home.

The layout of our booth was pretty much the same as our previous bridal show with a few minor variations. We had an additional bigger table so we were able to do much more with the space.

We saw a lot of familiar faces in our booth. Some of our current brides who are getting married this year stopped by to say hello. We also saw some guests from our previous weddings who are now getting married as well.

We met David and Kristina at the Greenville Bridal Show and they happened to be vacationing in Kiawah Island this week so we all decided to have lunch. Luckily, they like Japanee food and were in fact craving sushi for the longest time but just didn’t have a chance to.

Of course, the boys talked about gear and codecs and formats. We also talked about our businesses, photography, videography, the bridal show and pretty much everything and anything. We stayed there for 3 hours just talking and talking and it still seemed like there was still so much to talk about.

We’ve actually been to the Hilton Hotel in Myrtle Beach quite a few times before so we were quite confident going there without a GPS but of course we got lost quite a couple of times and had to backtrack. Directions are so confusing sometimes because sometimes they say to go straight but there is actually a fork in the road so does going straight mean to veer left or right? Makes me wonder sometimes how we survived before without a GPS. Should never leave home without it.

Anyway, we finally got to the Hilton Hotel and heard Sandy Puc’ of Expressions by Sandy Puc’ speak. Sandy Puc’ is a boutique portrait photographer in Littleton, Colorado and is probably best known as the founder of Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. Her seminar is called G.I.V.E. and is just FULL of information about photography, marketing and sales. She also does a lot of charity work which has the unfortunate side effect of giving her even more business.

The seminar was from 1pm to 7pm and even with the breaks, our minds were spinning from all the information. We drove home very inspired and so full of ideas for our photography.

We’ve been so busy these past few weeks preparing for the bridal show.

I have never been to a Festival of Lights before so I really didn’t know what to expect. There was a lot of people and a lot of traffic going into the Festival but it was really worth it.

Their wedding reception was aboard the Spiritline Dinner Cruise which went on a tour around Cooper River. They served a four or five course dinner and I must say, this boat had the best food ever! Kudos to the chef!

It was very relaxing being on the boat watching the beautiful scenery pass by, especially during the sunset and at night. Brian and I used to live and work on a cruise ship before so being on water is nothing new to us. It was kinda nostalgic being on a boat again.   For some reason, I was expecting a passenger drill, like you do when you go on a cruise.

We’ve had the wonderful opportunity to photograph some belly dancers from Rasa’s workshop. This was held in Kudu Coffeehouse in Downtown Charleston, South Carolina. We had never seen belly dancers before so this was a great experience for us.

We happened to all work together during Joslynn’s wedding in Charleston, SC aboard the Spiritline Cruises. (SilvasPhoto was doing videography and Tillman Branch was doing videography). After a while, we realized that Brian and Mike share the same chiropractor. Small world, eh?

Apparently, I am not.

We love the POM brand of pomegranate juice so much that it convinced us to buy an actual pomegranate fruit at the grocery. I was trying to eat it and found out that I do not know how to eat one. Brian suggested that I look it up on the internet. I say, I think if monkeys can figure out how to eat a pomegranate, I’m sure I will be able to figure it out without using the internet. (This is assuming that monkeys do eat pomegranate, which I am not entirely sure of).

Well, apparently I can’t figure out how to eat a pomegranate without the internet. In fact, I looked it up online and STILL could not figure it out. I looked at some pictures, watched some videos, I still couldn’t eat it.

Next time I want to eat some fruit, I’ll just open some canned fruit, thank you very much.

This video wasn’t long enough, so we made it double-spaced.

I thought these black table napkins were just so elegant!

During the reception, they had a little game where the bride and groom were sitting back to back and the host asked questions like, “Who’s the better cook?”, “Who is more creative?” and the bride and groom had to answer by raising the right shoe.

In lieu of the usual reception fare such as the first dance, cake cutting, etc., the bride and groom opted to have a mini-talent show instead to showcase the many talents of their friends and family. I have never seen so much talent in one room. They had people singing, tap-dancing, playing the harmonica, playing the guitar, playing the violin, doing a magic act and doing a baton routine.

I have never seen the show because I was overseas when it came out. A lot of my friends have though and they’ve been raving about it. All I can say is, WOW! We were so hooked after every episode… what happens next? what happens next?

I totally recommend this show to everyone. You have to watch it from the beginning though to be able to understand what’s happening.

The wedding day is the one day in a person’s life that they actually NEED a professional photographer.  The bride looks more beautiful on this day than any other day in her life.  She has probably spent hundreds or thousands of dollars on the wedding dress, her makeup, her hairstyle, her shoes and her accessories.  You need a professional photographer to make sure that you and your wedding are captured in the best way possible.

How to choose a wedding photographer

Price
A major consideration for most wedding couples is the price.   Some couples allot 10% of their wedding budget for the photographer; others allot 60% of their wedding budget.  It all depends on how important wedding photography is in your priorities.

Wedding photographers range anywhere from $900 – $5000.   Usually, the higher you pay, the better quality photography you will get.  This is because, in general, better wedding photographers are able charge more.  Sometimes, you will luck out and get somebody really good but still in the early part of their career so you can get a lower price.

Generally, depending on your needs, it is cheaper to buy a whole package than buying a la carte.

Wedding Photography Package
In today’s digital age, it is very important to own a CD of your wedding photos.  Make sure your wedding photography package includes a CD of your high-resolution images that you will be able to print, view and share from, or that it is relatively inexpensive to purchase it from your wedding photographer.

Style
There are different styles of wedding photography.

• Traditional Wedding Photography
  This is the photographic style from our parents’ and grandparents’ wedding albums.  In traditional wedding photography, the photographer poses and sets up everything.  This produces very pleasing, formal, “perfect” images which sometimes might seem too unnatural or contrived. 

• Photojournalistic Wedding Photography
  (also called documentary, candid photojournalism)
  In photojournalistic wedding photography, the photographer captures moments as they happen and doesn’t direct any action at all.  The resulting photographs look more natural but might be too gritty sometimes.

• Portrait Journalism 
  Portrait Journalism is a blend of the traditional and photojournalistic style.  This is a great compromise for people who want the more modern look of photojournalism but also a little bit of the traditional elegant poses.

When you find a wedding photographer that you like, book him or her as soon as possible to ensure their availability.  Most wedding photographers reserve dates on a first-come, first-served basis so make sure you book them so you don’t miss out.

The wedding ceremony and reception was held in Cedar Lodge Baptist Church .  It was a beautiful day, but very cold.  I lost my voice in the middle of the wedding, even though I wasn’t speaking much.

The Old Sheldon Church was previously known as  Prince William Parish Church and was organized and funded in 1740’s and 50’s by William Bull, whose plantation bordered the church grounds.  It  was set on fire during the Revolutionary War and again on January 14, 1865 during the “March to the Sea” Campaign.

After our big day from the Old Sheldon Church Wedding, we had another photo shoot, this time a boudoir portrait session. 

Theresa wanted to give her husband a special gift for Christmas. She was very cooperative and easy to work with and top of that, she was really pretty.  She had three different outfits for this photo shoot.

Waterfront Park is a really popular place to take engagement pictures because when I came here, I saw 2 (husband and wife?) photographers doing another engagement session and another photographer doing a bridal portrait session.

So how much should you spend for a wedding? 

According to costofwedding.com, the average couple in Charleston, South Carolina spends $25,340 for their wedding.  (You can also view the cost of wedding in other cities in the USA in their website)

This is just an average.  Some people spend more, some people spend less.  

Here is a sample breakdown by percent of how much the wedding budget should be broken down.  This is just a rough guide to be used as a starting point and not a hard and fast rule.  Some brides give more priority to certain items, such as a wedding gown or a spectacular venue or a six-string orchestra, and may adjust their budget accordingly.  It all depends on what is most important to the wedding couple.  Also, wedding budgets differ depending on how many guests you have.

When making up your wedding budget, don’t forget to leave some money for starting out a new life as a couple.  This would include buying a new house (or moving in together), buying new furniture and appliances, and other things that you might need as a new couple. 

The most important thing is not to go broke over the process.  There is no point in having a $3000 wedding gown and a $4000 wedding ring, then having a lot of credit card debt after the wedding.  It is, after all, just one day.  There is are vendors for weddings of all budgets, so a little research and a little compromise will go a long way into saving some money.

Nicole flew in all the way from Wisconsin to be with Joshua.  They are planning another wedding next year for her family in Wisconsin.
