to my lovely & amazing style scouts,

here's a stylish treat for all of us this weekend. if you're a bay area resident or fancy a weekend road trip to our golden city by the bay, you must visit the marvelous alameda point vintage fashion faire.

beginning this friday, october 21st, the o club in alameda point will create a vintage heaven - filled with designer accessories, menswear, military and bridal galore. from amazing steals {just say yes to those romantic ivory lace slipdresses} to collectible deals {well hello there, emerald cut art deco earrings!}, there's no other place to indulge in our love for all things vintage.

as an added, feel good bonus, operation care and comfort will be setting up a station at the faire collecting donations for american servicemen and women serving overseas. bring anything from personal care items (toothbrushes, lotions.) to fun things (disposable cameras, phone cards) to halloween treats (candy corn, reese's pieces & licorice!) to drop off when entering the faire.

music - in any & every shape and shade - never fails to make my heart beat a little faster and eyes shine a little brighter. it's our antidote to those gray days. it's the soundtrack of our wild adventures. and it connects us through sweet lyrics and even sweeter melodies.

so naturally, when a music festival rolls into our glittering city by the bay, it's the happiest of days. and this past weekend's picture perfect treasure island music festival was no exception.

it was a slowed down version of outside lands....with a diy tent {we made friendship bracelets}, hula hoop dancers, a fantastic silent disco {everyone dances around wearing wireless headphones connected to the dj booth!} and an endless stretch of grass to lay, listen and soak in the sun.

beach house had us swaying in the sunset, explosions in the sky took us to the stars, friendly fires were dance fantastic & death cab for cutie filled the air with heavenly goodness.

and as a little memory of this magical sunday afternoon, i have this gift for you - a little mixtape of some of these sunny moments + a few current faves woven in between...

hi there! i'm dana from what the frock?! i met syl on weddingbee (she's mrs. ostrich, I'm ms. sloth), and i'm so excited that she's letting me guest post on silver lining!

in the past few months, the mister and i bought a house, got married, and went on a big honeymoon. the result?

we're broke.

well, not really, but all of our spending money has been going towards replenishing our savings account. this means that i'm not really shopping right now. and it's breaking my heart, because i love to shop. but that doesn't mean that i can't window shop, or at least do the digital version of window shopping, a.k.a. scouring the web for my favorites and drooling on my laptop keyboard. so here's what i'm jonesing for this fall. i can look all i want, i just can't touch!

happy monday, kids!

this post will be short but full of sweet.

this past weekend i may have watched beyonce's hot off the press, 60's inspired music video, "countdown," oh i don't know...maybe 25 times? the terrific technicolors, marvelous mod styling and cool choreography reminded me of my favorite 60's french film, "les parapluies de cherbourg," {the umbrellas of cherbourg}. which translates to = i truly, madly, deeply adore.

every outfit is amazing...the primary hued leotards with bold striped sunhats, breezy oversized shirts in the prettiest pastels, superchic black with a dash of leopard and those dreamy dance class ensembles. heavenly all around.

and if that wasn't enough? this colorful masterpiece was directed by tom petty's visionary daughter, adria petty. bravo, girl.

i can't think of a better way to kick of a new week than with this marvelous music video. it's 3 minutes of pure delight....and it'll be my go to groove all this week. :)

as we begin this much needed weekend, i'll be wishing for a morning with spiced apple waffles, a sunny afternoon on the tennis courts and an evening filled with salted caramel brownies, too much laughter and the people i adore. and a few cozy hours in between.

chevron. it's everywhere these days; sneaking into home decorator fabrics, on walls, and especially now with the missoni for target craze, chevron patterns are showing up more and more on clothes and accessories. but i'm not one to jump right on trends, especially when they involve spending a lot of money on clothes, when my husband and i are saving up to buy our first house next year. so i came up with a cheap and easy way to get my chevron fix by diy'ing chevron patterns on my nails.

so sit back and relax with a couple of bottles of nail polish, a roll of blue painter's tape,
scissors, and follow these easy steps to get the look for yourself!

with autumn fully underway, my eyes have been lighting up at the sight of any and every handbag style by the lovely and amazing anya hindmarch, one of my all time favorite designers. always clever and bubbling with charm, each piece delights with a wink and a smile.

hey there friends,

my days in dc have come to a close and i had nothing short of a terrific time. my days were full of meeting bright eyed students whose powerful stories blew my mind and filled my heart. my evenings were colored with the laughter of good friends. and, oh my stars, the food. bacon wrapped figs & shrimp and grits at founding farmers, jamaican jerk chicken sandwiches at jamaican joe's and a crazy awesome 5 guys bacon cheeseburger, topped off with the perfect strawberry-lychee champagne cocktail.

dc is an absolute gem.

and while i have a pocketful of adventures in my pocket, i missed the hubs every minute and this experience would have been a gazillion times more phenomenal if only he was next to me. what can i say? i'm a happy happy wife. :)

so when i stumbled upon, "me without you," a charmer of a book by cartoonists ralph lazar & lisa swerling, i couldn't help but smile. the sweet drawings and even sweeter rhymes remind me of how we all feel when we're apart from the one who has a piece of our heart. you know? .......

hey there, friends,

i hope all of you had a wonderful weekend! since the san francisco skies were gray and it sprinkled here and there, the mister and i cozied up with a pot of hot tea, a long queue of our favorite shows {fringe! the new girl! and *cough* jersey shore} and the insanely hilarious "bridesmaids." and after a zany week in nyc, cat naps, laughter and sweet time with my guy were exactly what my body and soul needed.

so to help ease us into the work week, take a moment and soak in this charming song and video, "stay young, go dancing," by death cab for cutie. it's the sweet story of a lifelong couple and their love of - you guessed it - dancing. and for a girl who dances like there's no one watching, this song made my heart flutter, skip and smile. i hope it does the same for you, too.

early autumn days are a wonderful thing. the maple leaves shine with gold while the last shades of summer linger in the warm afternoon air. for me, it's the best of both seasons -

cashmere cardigans layered with embroidered cotton tops, flirty navy print jumpers with cognac leather oxfords, wool trousers with washed silk tanks - and my closet couldn't be happier.

and my inspiration for this year's early autumn looks? elle france, marion cotillard and these heart-stirring images...

hey everybody!

i have a serious case of food brain this week. it could be because i can't resist the wonderland of gourmet delights at every nyc street corner {truffle mac + cheese? yes, please}. or it's because i hail from foodie heaven, aka san francisco, where the most phenomenal meals can be found on a leisurely stroll through our sweet city. and cost $7.

and while the glittering concrete jungle of new york has a bounty of food goodness, i have yet to find an equal to the place that creates one of my favorite meals in the history of favorite meals.

the grilled cheese sammy. :)

if you happen to be in our charming city by the bay, you'll find a little {ok, ginormous} red and checkered truck - toasty melts - that sells, hands down, the most ridonkulous, oh-my-stars-that-was-so-amazing-i-need-to-have-another-one grilled cheese you've ever had. in your life.

i can't even begin to explain the sheer excitement i had when sylvie said i could guest blog for her today! i am going to be sharing my (ahem, martha stewart's) famous snickerdoodle recipe today that my fiance can't seem to get enough of, since snickerdoodles are alex's favorite cookies. in june, i received a martha stewart cupcake book for my birthday {because i puffy heart cupcakes} and when i came across this recipe, i knew i had to make them for him.

hey friends,

i don't know about you, but my ipod has been thirsting for some new tunes to ease me through the wild work hours. my summer faves have run their course, so i started off on my search for some fresh sounds for fall. a cup of mgmt, a dash of iron & wine, a pinch of explosions in the sky {my FAVE!} and a sprinkle of band of horses. that's all i wanted. easy peasy, right?

after a day of little browsing, clicking and listening....POOF!, there it was.

brooklyn based indie indie band, the antlers, and their sophomore album, burst apart. their beautiful, dreamy melodies help my creative ideas flow and keep me floating through my days. in short, i love....and wanted to share their songs for your listening pleasure today.

today, there will be many, many people who will be looking back, remembering a day, a person, a place and a world ten years ago.

and that's perfectly okay. these moments have shaped the world we live in today. and those people who we've lost shaped who we are, here and now.

in my today, i'm choosing not to look back.

i choose to look up, eyes to the sky, and send my love to our fallen. i'm imagining their eyes are shining, faces beaming down at us as we've fought - and keep fighting - to make our world a better place since that fateful day. they're reassuring us, "hey now, no sad faces! heaven is pretty amazing. and we're always here....just look up."

and today, and every day after, I'll choose to look forward.

i'll try and do my part to make our world a place that i'm proud of. and while i don't have a powerful political position or endless amounts of money to influence people, i'm still me. sylvie, a girl with a full heart and a strong voice who has committed herself to drawing out the peace and goodness in all of us. and i hope that you...and you, you and you...will be inspired to do the same.

do me a kindness, friends, and stop for a second.

stop and think about everything you're doing as we speak. you're reading {at least, I hope you are}. :) you could be toggling between tabs and paying for bills, reading work emails or chatting online with friends. there could be music playing....or your sweet doggie's snoozing at your feet. and while i'd love to believe you're giving this post all your energy and attention, i know better. you're multitasking.

peek into my mind and you'll see the same thing - a dizzying amount of work emails, neglected chores, 30 minute dinner recipes, workout schedules, weekend planning, life dreams and life worries that consume my thoughts at any given second. and as i write this, i keep glancing down at my phone to check/answer work emails, i'm shuffling through my rogue wave pandora radio station and superfun ideas for the hub's big birthday bash are popping up in my head. OOF.

and - shocker - we're not alone. for most of our lives, we've been juggling to get things done. i mean, multitasking is supposed to be a good thing, right? that's what the career counselors told me, anyway. i proudly cite that in interviews and on my resume as something i'm supremely awesome at.

{how shameful is this?? - sitting in the sun at outside lands {OK Go was on stage}..and I'M CHECKING MY WORK EMAILS. BAD.}
