Swarm was the first record released by Mike Knapp, under the name Xpando, in 1993. Mike released a number of great releases throughout the 90’s, under various aliases, often collaborating with Jason Blakemore (aka DJ Trance) and Eric Davenport on his Bassex Records label.

I’ve had quite a number of requests for this Eli Star mixtape. It’s called Omega, it was released in 1994, and it’s great! Some mixes are a joy to listen to because of the nostalgia associated with them, and some mixes still just sound great, this mix is in the latter group. I love that Eli tended to play a lot of good music that other DJ’s didn’t.

Destructo vs. Mar Co – Raindance

Raindance was released in (I believe) 1992, by Los Angeles DJ/Promoter Destructo and Mar Co on Destructo Records. The a-side mix is labeled as “Destruction Mix”, but the run out is etched “Techno Mix”. It’s all about the Tribal Mix on this record though, one of the better old school techno tracks to come out of Los Angeles. (Correction: The Destruction Mix is in fact my preferred mix. That break is one of my favorites)

This flyer and flexi-disc were for a rave called Ahknaten that was held on Saturday, February 15th, 1992 in Los Angeles. DJ’s for this event were Mr. Kool-Aid, John Williams, Justin King, Steve Loria, Beej, Aldo Bender, Markem X, and Gary Blitz. The event was produced by Beej and Gary Blitz.

Phase IV / Humanoid – Braindamage EP

This 4 track ep by Phase IV and Humanoid was released in 1992 on German label Bit Bites Brain.

I first heard Barry Weaver play “Deep Inside” from this EP on KSPC 88.7, in 1992 or 1993, and the hunt was on until I finally found a copy in 1994. I was thrilled when I put the record on to find all four tracks were killers. I still have that tape somewhere… in the meantime, hope you enjoy these tracks!

I had intended to put this mix up around Christmas, as you can see from the write up by Thee-O below. There were some temporary issues with the site that delayed this from happening, as well as my posting anything. I’m happy to say everything is resolved now and new music should be appearing on a more regular basis. Enjoy!

“I recorded this set live at Drumbeats in Love in the High Desert around my birthday in 1993. The party was pretty damn good from what I remember of it. The set comprised of some of some hard trance from Eye Q and Harthouse Records. I was a big fan of that sound at the time. What I do remember is that I made this tape as a Christmas present. I only made about 100 I think and just gave them away. It is a pretty rare tape and I am glad Simfonik is putting up near Christmas so that I can give it away again.” – Thee-O
