Amazing Landscape : The Wave, Arizona (10 Pics)

Ever heard of 'The Wave'? Take a look at the picture. The Wave is a sandstone rock formation located in the United States of America near the Arizona and Utah border on the slopes of the Coyote Buttes, in the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, on the Colorado Plateau. It is famous among hikers and photographers for its colorful, undulating forms, and the rugged, trackless hike required to reach it.

The Wave is made of Jurassic-age Navajo Sandstone that is approximately 190 million years old. Scientists who study The Wave say that the old sand dunes turned into hard compacted rock over the ages, calcifying in vertical and horizontal layers. Erosion by wind and rain has created the spectacular landscape which appears now.

So, if you love see odd and unusual places, 'The Wave' is a perfect destination for you. Note that, a permit is required to visit The Wave. The permit is provided by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), which manages the beautiful rock formation. The BLM limits access to the North Coyote Buttes Wilderness Area to just twenty permits per day. Ten of the permits are available in advance by reservation, and the remaining ten are made available by lottery the day before at the nearest ranger station.

The Spiral Jetty Sculpture (10 Pics)

Take a look at the picture. This is Spiral Jetty, an earthwork sculpture constructed in 1970 by American sculptor Robert Smithson. Built of mud, salt crystals, basalt rocks, earth, and water on the northeastern shore of the Great Salt Lake near Rozel Point in Utah, the Spiral Jettry forms a 1500-foot long, 15-foot wide counterclockwise coil jutting from the shore of the lake which is only visible when the level of the Great Salt Lake falls below an elevation of 4,197.8 feet. At the time of its construction, the water level of the lake was unusually low because of a drought. Within a few years, the water level returned to normal and submerged the jetty for the next three decades. Due to a drought, the jetty re-emerged in 2004 and was completely exposed for almost a year. The lake level rose again during the spring of 2005 due to a near record-setting snowpack in the mountains and partially submerged the Jetty again.

Smithson reportedly chose the Rozel Point site based on the blood-red color of the waters and its connection with the primordial sea. Originally black basalt rock against ruddy water, it is now largely white against pink due to salt encrustation and lower water levels. The sculpture is currently owned by the Dia Art Foundation of New York.

Named 'Eco // 07', this beautiful urban bicycle is designed to save space when it is being transported or when not in use. But, wait! This is not an ordinary bike. Eco // 07 design consists of two systems - Wheel folding system and Bike Structure system. The Wheel is composed by six modules, each one has a double pivot in the joints, this allows the wheel to fold and become smaller, the spokes are contained in the inner structure of the wheel, when you unfold the system, the spokes rotate to the center of the mechanism where it attach to the center of the wheel. The double triangular bike structure is composed by expandable modules, each one collapses to a smaller dimension and then this modules align by the rotation of the axis in the joint of the structure, to keep in position all the structure is used an special part in a form of an X that aligns all the modules to their position.

Death of Aral Sea : 14 Pics + 1 Video

Aral Sea, which lies between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, was once known for it's small islands and fishing industry. It was world's fourth largest inland saline body of water. But due to Soviet redirection of the Sea's sources, the Aral Sea has been steadily shrinking since the 1960s. Now it's surface area is just 17,160 square km, which was once 68,000 square km. There are now two smaller lakes in the Aral Basin: the North Aral Sea and the western basin of the South Aral Sea. It's third lake, the larger eastern basin of the South Aral Sea, dried out completely in 2009. The prosperous fishing industry is gone and Aral Sea is now just a graveyard of ships and a barren land with salt and dust.

Kid Herry invited to join Mensa

Take a look in the picture above. This young 4 years boy who knew the alphabet backwards by the age of two has been invited to join Mensa. He is from Hampshire.
Harry Chapple, who is now four, is able to calculate the dimensions of circles and squared numbers in seconds, reports the Daily Telegraph.
A series of tests showed he has an IQ of 144 and now Harry has been invited to join Mensa - the society for people with an IQ over 130.
His dad Simon Chapple, 35, of Ash, Hants, said Harry showed an interest in maths from an early age and would ask for games involving numbers whenever they visited toy shops.
"Harry's always been very bright and naturally inquisitive," he said. "He's the kind of boy who'll ask you why the sky is blue and, when you tell him 'because it's reflecting the colour of the sea' he won't be satisfied.

"He'll then ask 'why is the sea blue?' He's very persistent and curious. Harry's got a great memory and keeps all these formulas in his head like Pi which he uses to work out the circumference of circles."
Mr Chapple said that although he was also good at maths as a child and his wife Michelle, 29, also had a good memory they were stunned by Harry's 'incredible' ability.
The Chapples contacted Mensa, who used their own child psychologist George Crowther to carry out a series of tests.
Mr Crowther, a developmental psychologist for over 40 years, said: "Harry is an exceptional young boy and his ability is very rare.
"Only 0.1 per cent of people have an IQ over 140. In a secondary school of 1,000 pupils he could be the only one with that ability."

Man dies of excess drinking at own wedding

Zhang, the 32-year-old man who died of excess drinking at his own wedding in Chengdu, Sichuan province. The family of him is demanding a 1.2-million-yuan ($175,696) compensation from the hotel where the reception was held.
During the wedding party on Sunday, the 32-year-old groom passed out after downing a "few extra" glasses of liquor. Hours later, he was found dead in his hotel room.
According to forensic experts, Zhang died of asphyxiation. In simple words, he choked on his own vomit.
Zhang's parents said the hotel staff should not have left their heavily intoxicated son alone in his room and should have phoned doctors, which they didn't.

Tiger captured in Las Vegas

A tamed tiger that escaped from a magic act has been captured by Police in Las Vegas.
Police say the residents in the city's northwest section reported seeing the tiger wandering their streets on Thursday night at 9 pm.
Officers were despatched to recover the tiger, which belongs to the Fernando Brothers Magic Act. It was quickly tracked down to a domestic yard and returned to captivity.
The tiger was found in a resident's backyard.Animal Control and Metro Police are investigating the incident.

Today, let's take a look at the "Morning Glory Pool", a hot spring in the Upper Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park in the United States. The odd hot spring was named by Mrs. E. N. McGowan, wife of Assistant Park Superintendent, Charles McGowan in 1883. She called it Convolutus, the latin name for the morning glory flower of which the springs resemble. The distinct color of the Morning Glory Pool is due to bacteria which inhabit the water. On a few rare occasions the Morning Glory Pool has erupted as a geyser, usually following an earthquake or other nearby seismic activity.

The 44 tonne sculpture celebrates Audi’s achievements in motor sport with two cars. The lower one is the legendary 1937 Auto Union Streamliner. Oculus was the first “design launch” of Schöpfer Yachts LLC. It's exterior styling is representative of the jaw and eye socket bone structure of large oceanic fish and mammals. Featuring a dramatic reverse bow configuration, the yacht’s armature balances an elegant expression of symmetry and structure.

In addition to the bow, Oculus also features a “low rider profile”. This slightly lowered surface allows for new side recreational areas, alternate dockage access and light cruising openness. Lateral retractable side panels close this area when heavier wave action is indicated.

The interior features of Oculus focus on a 12 foot high ceiling in the main salon, a cylindrical double height dining room, central stair and elevator tube, and seemingly anatomical ceiling and floor lighting extensions giving definition to the seating areas.

The second level of Oculus is the dedicated Owner’s suite. Living areas and bedchambers are divided by a series of four freestanding tubes, which house bath and storage necessities. In addition to the main common stair, the second Owner’s stair connects to the third level aft private salon and deck / water feature.
