Websites are commonly understated as “tools for business” when really they are all of the following:

Marketing Mediums

Doorways Into Your Company

Catalogs

Brochures

Business Cards

Sales Force

Inventory Manager

Reputation Manager

Sign

Storefront

Lead Generator

Brand Catalyst

Portfolios

and more…

Why then, do so many business and professionals get a website built, and then forget about it? Is it because they feel visitors should just come bombarding through and converting and buying all of their stock and services? Is it because now that they have these few little drops of syntax spilled into a sea of code, they feel comfortable and complacent like business should just come there way because now “they have a website”? Well they’re right actually. Traffic should just come to your website. Visitors should be beating down your doors to buy your products. But what if your entire audience is chasing your competitors around, trying to buy their stuff, like a bunch of zombies with fists of cash? The truth is, they are. Your audience IS going to someone else’s website, converting into your competitors’ customers, and buying stuff from your enemies for eternity.

The cool thing is, there’s something you can do about it and its not hard. The people who are buying from your competitors and spending time on their sites probably found your competition through the use of search engines. If you optimize your site so that search engines can read it, get inbound links to your site so search engines know its popular, and provide plenty of content for search engines to regurgitate via search results, then your site will inevitably gain tons of traffic. This of course is contingent on the industry/keywords/terminology you are using and their high demand to searchers.

As you can see keywords are where it all begins. You want people to find your dog house website so they can order one of your custom built dog houses. You will obviously try to target terms like dog house, custom dog house and custom built dog houses. You probably aren’t targeting searchers looking for jewelers, day cares or a car wash. So, making a distinction about your industry is first and foremost.

Every industry has keywords that sum up that industry. Brainstorm about all of the keywords in your industry and then search for those online to find any you missed. Afterwards, you can do a little copetitive research and determine which keywords you really need to run with.

Tweaking your site’s Title & META tags and page content is a great way to immediately begin ranking for the terms that your competitors were using to take all of your rightly deserved traffic.

Keywords are the tools and the products of an good website positioning SEO campaign. Keywords come out of keyword research and go into the site to leverage search engines for more traffic.

SimpleTiger owns a proprietary system for keyword research that allows us to quickly and accurately determine which keywords our clients can rank for based on search volume and competition. Go ahead and fill out our form below to get a free site assessment so we can start your keyword research and SEO campaign.
