There isn't any doubt about it. I love shopping for other people. I especially love shopping for the love of my life, my hubby. Seeing as how I've only lived in southern Florida and southern California for most of my life I don't really have a good excuse to have a glamorous coat collection. If there is one word I could use to describe myself it would be organized. From our closets, to the kitchen, and all the way down to my purse I like to be sure I am organized at all times because if there is one thing that drives me crazy it is not being able to find something. Everything has a home and I am always the one who knows where that home is. I recently combined my purse & diaper bag to all fit into my Cuyana Tall Tote. We are only a few short days away from a much anticipated family vacation to Florida. A trip that was planned somewhat last minute, but one we welcomed with delight and are eager to spend some time on the east coast with our family and friends.

My lists are made and the suitcase is out ready to be packed. But the combination of fall and temperatures in the 80's is making my packing list quite tricky. With cozy sweaters and deep fall colors on my mind it makes me reluctant to admit that summer is still very real in parts of the country (San Diego included). Despite the high temperatures there are still amazing fall styles that don't require me to pull out my brights and linens and I think they would be perfect for cool weather daydreaming during those leftover summer days.

Pick tops that are light, airy and will keep you cool during the days yet still give you that fall look. Two of my favorites are the J.Crew Collection Mixed Organza top and the Cuyana Silk Tank. Both can be layered with beautiful long necklaces and match perfectly with my favorite fall shorts.

Straying from cotton shorts to suede or leather is a great way to embrace the idea of fall while enduring hot (it feels like summer) days. These Tory Burch Nubuck shorts and J.Crew Collection Leather Bermuda shorts are simply perfect.

Ready to retire your sandals for the season? Trade them in for a pair of great flats. I absolutely adore the scalloped look as it takes the basic flat to the next level. Have you ever experienced outfit envy? Maybe you walked by someone that caused you to do a double take because they looked so well put together and you needed to make mental note in hopes to eventually recreate a similar look. This happened to me just the other day.

Here I was at the mall sitting with Jack at lunch, not feeling totally shabby in my outfit. Showered, makeup, and hair in a bun. It was a day that I didn't think I looked exhausted or that my outfit had that last minute thrown together "I'm a mom" look.

And then I looked over and what do I see? The most adorable mom of all adorable moms. The mom that is so well put together in the most basic yet chic way. That mom who is not only wearing her gorgeous long hair down (why is it so hard to do when you become a mom?) but also nicely curled. With an outfit that was so simple, stylish and functional (i.e. food and drool would easily come out when washed) it made me think I should have spent a few extra minutes getting ready. Who cares if that meant everything in my bathroom drawer would be thrown on the floor again.

So yes, I may have had slight mom-look envy. Don't we all from time to time? Here is how I styled the mom look I so loved.

It's true what they say, like mother, like daughter. At least in my case. There are times I say, do and even wear something that is exactly like my mom. When I was younger my mom loved wearing her chambray shirt and Sperry top-siders. I remember thinking at the time that I would never wear those...they are simply just too "mom". Well, here I am, my mother's daughter. In my chambray dress with my gold Sperry top-siders sitting by the front door. And here I go once again telling my mom that I am sorry that I ever doubted her decisions when I was younger because now I am doing exactly the same thing.

Chambray is a style that has been around for a while and I completely understand why. A comfortable, casual, and classic look that is perfect for this season...and next. Living in San Diego never leaves us with a shortage of house guests. With perfect weather, endless number of activities, and now our little mister, our guest room is in high demand with our friends and family. Wanting to make our guests feel comfortable when staying with us I've come up with a few simple things we can do as hosts to make our guests feel right at home.

|| Write down your wi-fi name & password and place in a small dish for easy access ||

I feel that with being a mother comes days of new lessons learned and yesterday was no exception. With a toddler boy running around the chaos at home has gone up a few notches. No matter how often I clean up you will find toys and books covering our floors, random kitchen items found in our laundry basket, under the couch, or anywhere else little mister Jack decides to leave them. As tiring as this age can be at times I also feel this is my favorite age for Jack to date. There is nothing more amazing than watching the world through his eyes. Recognizing that the cars he sees in his books are the same ones he hears outside. Seeing his face light up when he can stack 5 blocks...and then knock them down.

With constant chaos I feel that patience can run thin at times. I'm quick to be consumed with toddler life along with the long to do list I am constantly creating for myself. There are days I forget to slow down, enjoy the moments, and just let Jack be with me and learn. Patience. This is the lesson I learned yesterday while making homemade granola.

By 8 pm I think it is safe to say I am pretty exhausted with chasing our little one around all day and find myself quick to say "no" to a lot more than I would have that morning. And if there is one thing that is true for us it is that the kitchen is hands down Jack's favorite spot in our house, followed by the bath tub. Anytime I am cooking he is eager to see what is going on, smell the herbs, taste everything on the cutting board. Most of the time spitting it back out, but I appreciate the willingness to try. He also loves to mimic everything hubby and I do and so last night when he saw me making granola and opening and closing the oven door then why shouldn't he do the same?

Watching him ready to touch the oven door I quickly opened my mouth to yell "no, don't touch" but in the same second saw the oven mitt at his feet. So instead said "Jack, if you want to touch the oven door you need to have your mitt on so you don't get hurt". I laughed to myself immediately after saying this well knowing he didn't have a clue what I had just said. What did Jack do? Reach down, put the oven mitt on and then proceeded to touch the oven door with a huge smile on his face. This may not seem like much to you as you read this, but for me it spoke a thousand words. At times I am so quick to say no without realizing that if I just take some time to slow down and be more patient there are so many wonderful lessons in life that I get to teach our sweet boy. Just like I learn new things about being a mother every day, he learns something else about this grand world we live in. My heart fills with joy watching him understand us and being so willing to learn something new. It's amazing how this tiny toddler can constantly remind me of valuable lessons, but with a heart full of love and joy I am happy to learn something new everyday from my little mister.

I've got my eye on some great fall flats. Sticking to neutral tones and classic styles, these flats are chic, simple and can be worn day-to-day. I am coveting M.Gemi's fall styles as much as I did the summer style. The Stellato and gray suede Tuta are both true classics that I'd love to add to my closet. || The Loeffler Randall Ambra lace up flat is such a feminine beauty of a shoe. I imagine you must feel something like Audrey Hepburn when you wear them. || You can't go wrong with the black & white Kate Spade Carima flats. I have a pair of Kate Spade flats that I should most definitely retire from rotation and these would be the perfect replacement. || I've been a long-time admirer of the Freda Salvador brand and was in heaven when I stopped by their store on a quick trip to San Francisco. A few years ago I was in desperate need of a new pair of glasses. And so was my dear hubby. I had heard of Warby Parker and was intrigued by their philosophy of providing chic, sophisticated & great looking frames for a fraction of the cost of what you would typically spend on a pair of prescription glasses ($95 to be exact). Also, Warby Parker follows the "buy one, give one model" and for every pair of glasses sold, they distribute a pair of glasses to someone in need through a non-profit partner. So when looking for new glasses for our family Warby Parker was the obvious place to start.

Now fast forward three years and here I am sitting with my Warby Parker glasses on and my hubby with his. We are two days into September and I think it is safe to say that my official countdown to fall has begun. I'm ready for cooler days, pumpkin spice lattes, sweaters every day, and everything else amazing that fall brings. I'm so ready that I've actually packed up my bright summer clothes (even though my current read, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo, says I shouldn't even have a summer clothes box. My tidying skills are obviously still a work in process) and now my closet is full of neutrals, black & navy.

Along with packing away my summer clothes I've decided this is my go-to transition to fall outfit. I just picked up this shirt from J.Crew a couple of weeks ago and I can promise it won't be the last time you will see it on the blog. Light enough for these warmer days, but makes me feel less summer/more fall when I wear it. I've dressed it up for girls night, kept it casual for days at home, and it's blue & white striped so it was a no-brainer when I saw it in the store.

I get an absolute kick out of the Play by Comme des Garcons collection. The hearts. The eyes. The hearts with eyes. What's not to like? Taking classic looks and turning them into unique and intriguing pieces with one little design. I certainly wouldn't mind starting my own little Play collection. One might think that based on the black & gold selections for this currently coveting post I am secretly counting down to the start of football (who dat) season. At least I know it will be the first thought that pops into my hubby's mind. As much as I hate to disappoint, that is not quite the case. However, I do enjoy what the start of football season also means...the start of fall. Is anyone else as excited for fall to arrive as much as I am?

I've been eyeing Mignonne Gavigan's work for a while now. With collections full of chic, make you look twice statement pieces it's hard to pick a favorite. Meant for day or night, jeans or a dress these scarf necklaces will not disappoint.

I couldn't help but notice that one of the Fall / Winter 2015 styles is the "MEG". A sign that it is meant to be? I think so.

Our little mister Jack loves to read. When we flew to Florida in July I took a small bag of toys on the plane, but to my surprise he was content with reading the same three books over & over again with breaks of peek-a-boo with our neighbors in between.

When you ask him to pick out a book to read his face lights up and there isn't any hesitation as he hurries along to grab his favorite book to proudly bring back to you. And don't think that you will just read the book once. He first likes to flip through the pages as fast as he can, read it backwards, and then will sit quietly as we read it from beginning to end. When we are done he quickly flips the book back to the beginning to start all over again.

His favorites? These three Good Night books by Adam Gamble. I originally bought the Good Night California book a few years ago as a birthday gift and they soon became my go-to baby shower or birthday gift for little ones. The best part is the great assortment of states, cities, and so much more this collection comes in. We love saying good-night to our family all over the country with these books.

I think it might be time to add a few more to our collection.

For those of you joining me in the 30 day exercise challenge, we are more than half way there. Way to go!! So far it has been a fun challenge and I've enjoyed doing different types of exercise - family jogs, power walks with friends, yoga and workouts from my boot camp days. There have been good days where I couldn't wait to get my exercise in and days where I tried to wish the 30 minutes away.

I've been so inspired by everyone who is doing this with me. Seeing your workouts (#30dayswithSS), hearing how motivated you are and how great you feel has really helped me move forward with this goal. We've pushed through our first two weeks, which are the hardest and now our bodies are getting used to the daily exercise, feeling more toned & motivated and perhaps well on our way to making this a habit rather than something we dread.

A lot of what can make your exercise great is what you are wearing. New shoes that make you run or walk faster, that perfect fitting top, or the most comfortable shorts. Here are a few of my favorite workout items & a few that are on my wish list.

Runners...I can't recommend these shorts enough. I always preferred leggings until I found these. Comfortable & light - my favorite pair of shorts.

I've been an admirer of Serena & Lily for a while now. Their home decor is equally as elegant as it is functional, from the nursery to the kitchen & every room in between. It's no surprise that their clothing collection is just as beautiful.
