The heart is actually the master controller of body and soul.  Yet, that is the most protected area of the self.  So encrusted with irony and cynicism, hate and fear, distrust and betrayal that it seems impossible to even begin to approach the idea of living every aspect of our lives from heart-based solutions rather than mental solutions based in self preservation.  We are masters of evading expression through the heart by mental justifications that come about through misidentification of who we really are, of our true nature.

Yet, now, as we move closer and closer to disaster on every front – environmental, economic, in the very health and well-being of all that will allow the human race to survive – this time, right now, is the time when we need to find every solution we can that will uncover the power of the heart.  For it is only through the heart that we can become whole again and create our Paradise on Earth.

Many people mock this idea that we can create Paradise on Earth.  I understand why they do.  It is seen as foolish, impractical and even as in opposition to Human Nature.  But, I also understand that people feel that way because they haven’t found the means to open their hearts.  Hearts are so full of fear and pain.  This is fear and pain that has been created in our hearts not just by all of the terrible things that have caused us suffering at the hands of others but also, perhaps more importantly, from the things we have done to others out of our own suffering and sense that we are not intimately connected to everyone and everything.

I received the inspiration of this process yesterday.  This process will help to move and transmute the cloud of grief and pain that is hanging over Haiti (and other places that have experienced, or are experiencing large-scale disasters or tragedies).  The process is simple.  I do have a few caveats about using it though:

• You, yourself, must be the judge of whether or not this is something that is proper for you to do.
• Don’t do it if you are currently experiencing grief of your own
• Don’t do it if you are feeling particularly vulnerable
• Don’t do it if it doesn’t feel right for you
• You must know that you know how to create heart coherence
• You must know that you have the skills to not absorb the grief into yourself

Here are the three parts and explanations.

1. Prepare yourself in your manner.  I do a preparation which gets me well anchored in my heart by toning the “Light Tree” moonwise.  Those who are familiar with Sing4All™ processes know how to chant the Light Tree.  In this case we would chant the Light Tree moonwise.  The moonwise chanting ot the Light Tree creates a loving “womb space”, like entering into the heart of the Mother.  the technique is to chant the pure vowels on one breath in this order:  I (pronounced eeee), E (pronounced eh), A (pronounced ah), O (pronounced oh) and U (pronounced oooo).  I’m happy to tell you more about this if you like.  Otherwise do your own thing with breathing, chanting and focusing that gets you into your heart.  The point here is to create and sustain “Heart Coherence“.  To learn more about Heart Coherence go to the Institute of HeartMath.

2. Then see the mass of grief and pain over the area as a cloud.  Breathe this cloud into your heart and lungs through your open mouth on your in-breath.  Allow it to be transmuted in that heart/lung space and exhale it on the out-breath.  You can still be chanting on the out breath.

Should I hold my breath, or is it instantaneous on sucking it in?  It is instantaneous because you have prepared the space with the chanting first.  Don’t do it without a very strong preparation!

Don’t go overboard on time spent at one sitting.  There is new grief coming up throughout the day and night.  It is better to prepare for about 5-10 minutes and then do the process for only 5 minutes or less.

3. Finish with some cleansing breaths where you breathe in through your nose from the heavens into your heart and exhale out of the heart through your nose – followed by breathing in (again, in and out through the nose) from Mother Earth up through your belly and into your heart and exhale through the heart.  Do a few rounds of that to clear out anything that might remain.

If you feel that this is something for you to do, please do it.  If it doesn’t feel right to you, please do not do it.  It is for some people to work this way and for others to work in very different ways – so do not do it if this doesn’t feel like your way.  Also, if you have any questions about it and want to do it, please email or call me.

My suggestion is to raise your heart coherence through heart focused singing or chanting – alone, or with others. Heart coherence is a measurable state of calm, regular and smooth wave patterns that is brought on by feelings of joy, compassion, gratitude, love, caring and kindness – emotions like that. It is very simple to do this with singing. Once one is “feeling” it, the heart sends powerful vibrational messages to the brain and they become coherent with each other, which is also measurable.

So, to begin, be somewhere where you can sing and/or chant your favorite, spirit-lifting tunes, be comfortable and sing away! It matters not much exactly what you sing as long as it is tunes that really get you into your heart and those feelings of joy, compassion, gratitude, love, caring and kindness. As you feel yourself “being there”, feel and intend your vibration to spread out from you and intend that this feeling permeate the earth and all of its inhabitants. Before you know it, you’ll be “singing your heart out” in powerful waves of coherence.

If you can do this with a group of people sometime during this week the power can be greatly magnified. If you can also do this a number of times during this week by yourself it is a powerful tool to connect yourself with some really good feelings that will contribute to your own health mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Perhaps singing in this way will become a daily practice for you where you can do good things for yourself while doing good things for the planet. What a perfect way to multi-task!

I had been in a very dark and desolate place for more than a year and had the spontaneous experience of being visited by Grace in which I knew myself to be an eternal spiritual (as in non-physical) being. This immediately transported me from my depression into a blissful state that lasted for months and has seen me through many hard times that came later. This knowing has always remained as a fundamental inner knowledge.

I don’t know if one can create conditions for grace to occur, but if they could, I imagine it would be to empty one’s mind of all the chatter – and create a place of love and opening – an interior womb, so to speak. I do this now daily by sitting and toning – eee, aaaay, ahhh, ohhh, oooo, mmmmnnnn. While I do it I feel my love for my daughter and let that grow. When you do this, find whatever you can that can evoke a feeling of love in you.

It may be very small – a kindness someone showed you, gratitude for the smell of a flower, remembrance of someone you have cared about. It doesn’t matter how small or seemingly unimportant the act or memory is as long as it evokes a feeling of love or gratitude in your heart.

You can begin the chanting first and find the feeling as you are doing it – or the other way around. Just chant and hold the feeling in your heart at the same time. These sounds in this order clear out my head starting with my forhead and the top of my skull (eee) and then moving back (aaaay, ahhhh) and down (ohhh, to the heart) and then around the front and then centering (with the oooo/mmmnnn) in the center of my brain.

In the center of our heads is the pineal gland. I like to think of the pineal as a precious seed of possibility in the middle of the great womb. As I do this chanting I am reminded of my eternal spiritual nature and the other “stuff” drops away. This may be a practice that can provide some value for you.
Even if you don’t achieve a full state of Grace, my prayer for you is that you will achieve at least a small state of grace that helps you find the peace and calm for a new idea of your life to step in.

I do this practice daily. I feel that it reminds me of love and nurturing and creates for me the stillness I need to focus on my creative work each day. It’s very important, I feel, to spend the first ten minutes or so of your time concentrating on the feeling of love within yourself. Then, move on to emptiness and peace and letting the new emerge from the space of possibility.

As we speak, however, only a small percentage of what we actually “say” is in our words. There are worlds of meaning and expression contained in the actual sound of our voices – its pitch,timbre, speed, volume, variety and how it originates in our bodies.

As babies we all have natural voices. When was a baby ever concerned about how their voice sounded? And yet, with no training whatsoever, babies cry and coo and chortle and delight us all with their vocal expressions. Of course, some babies cry a lot and instead of having their needs met in response they are given subtle, and not so subtle, responses to shut up. They may not get what they need either. Even babies who are happy may be told to keep quiet – that their happiness is too loud.

What a way to start out! And we wonder why so many people think they can’t sing – or truly believe that they have bad voices!? But, the insult to our voices doesn’t stop there. As children we are compared, ridiculed and sometimes shamed or beaten into silence.

This voice that we have each been given is as unique and beautiful to each of us as our fingerprint or our smile. Our voice is intimately connected with the natural and direct expression of our self, our needs and our emotional state. What actually happens to people who are cut off from that ability to naturally and authentically tap the deep reservoir of our being? And what happens to a society where large numbers of its citizens no longer sing? Is there a loss of health, vitality, coherence and the ability to work for common goals?

People who sing are healthier and happier. I’m not saying that learning to sing, or singing in a choir will cure your physical disease, but I am saying that singing will return gifts to you that you never realized you had been cut off from. Your life will transform in richness, authenticity, connection and self-awareness. Your marriage may improve, countries may find paths to peace, children may see their dreams realized.

So, step out and sing! What have you got to lose besides shame, constriction, old trauma and the things that hold you back from the full expression of who you are?
