Inside Google Adwords, there is a factor known as the Quality Score. If you have a high campaign Quality Score, Google will reward you with lower cost-per-click and higher position for your ads. Getting a high quality score is something all Adwords specialists strive to achieve.

Now, let me share with you 7 steps to score a high quality score and create a winning Adwords campaign:

1. Keyword research. Conduct keyword research to identify keywords that are relevant to what you are offering. Make sure that you bid on keywords with Exact Match for the start. If you intend to bid on broad or phrase match, you need to ensure that you include negative keywords to filter out unnecessary impressions. This is important because when you have lots of unnecessary impressions, your click through rate will be very low. When you have a low click through rate, your campaign will be slapped with a low Quality Score.

2. Turn off the content network. If you are not experienced with Adwords, I advise you to turn off the content network first. Run your ads on Google search only.

3. Group relevant keywords together. Your ad groups should contain keywords that are closely related so that you can write a more relevant ad for each ad group. The relevancy of your ads is one factor Google looks at when it comes to Quality Score.

4. Split test your ads. Create two ads per ad group and run a split test to determine which ad copy gets you more clicks. The purpose of split testing is to get a better CTR and improve conversions.

5. Adjust your keyword bids accordingly. After you let your campaign run for a few hours, log in to check how much each keyword costs and what position you ads are at. The best position is between two and six. The first position usually gets lots of tire kickers.

6. Eliminate keywords that do not perform. Delete keywords that don’t bring you clicks and conversion.

Google Adwords is a great advertising tool for affiliate marketers. When you run an Adwords campaign, make sure you track the performance so that you know what works and what doesn’t work.

Microsoft and Yahoo has inked a 10 year deal to challenge Google’s dominance in online search. Under the 10 year deal, Yahoo.com and Bing.com will maintain their own branding but search results on Yahoo will be powered by Bing. As for Yahoo, they will be responsible to attract premium advertisers.

Yahoo estimated the deal will boost their annual operating income by about US$500 million and yield capital expenditure savings of US$200 million. Yahoo also expects the deal to boost annual operating cash flow by about US$275 million.

Also, Microsoft will pay Yahoo 88% of the revenue it gains from searches on Yahoo’s sites. Microsoft will also have the rights to integrate Yahoo’s search technology into its own existing search platforms.

So what this means to SEO optimizers and pay-per-click advertisers?

The integration of Bing and Yahoo search algorithm will take some time and they estimate it will be done in 2010. So optimizers and advertisers have ample time to prepare. For SEO, I believe the algorithm will not vary too much. As long as we continue to write good content, we should not be affected by the integration of Bing and Yahoo. In fact, this will be beneficial to the consumers. Instead of one strong number one and 2 weak number two and three in the past, now we will have a strong number two.

As for PPC, MSN Adcenter will be the only platform that we will access to manage both ads on Yahoo and Bing. As long as adcenter improves on its user-friendliness, there should not be a big problem.

So it’s final… the long anticipated deal is finally done. Now, what will Google do?

Recently, I took some time to re-read the book again and true enough, I gained new insights by reading a book for the second time.

“Those who test will fly, those who rely on brute force will die” is a perfect lesson for all of us if we want to make good money online. The reason Perry has this thought is because of the success that Wright brothers achieved in year 1903. Yes, everyone knows that the Wright brothers are the first in flight. But do you know that just weeks before the Wright brothers were to fly the world’s first airplane, there is a man named Samuel Pierpont Langley who was launching an airplane of his own, with the assistance of an entire staff.

Langley thought that by putting a big enough engine on the glide, the plane will fly. He was wrong. The plane crashed immediately after leaving the launching pad, badly damaging the front wing. Langley did tried a second time and the results was the same. The plane crashed almost immediately. After he was ridiculed by the press, he abandoned his vision and 3 years later, Langley died a broken and disappointed man.

Meanwhile, the Wright brothers had a completely different approach to build a plane. They believed that the gliders must be good enough to glide from a hilltop without an engine. Only after the gliders were able to glide from a hilltop with no engine, they would try to put an engine to it. So after years of experimentation, when they saw that the glider is working fine, they went to build the smallest engine and put it on the glider.

And just eight days after Langley’s second failed attempt, the Wright brothers made history whereas few people even know about Langley. So what does this historical story going to do with internet marketing and making money online?

If you have been doing internet marketing for a while, I believe you know that traffic is the most vital element if you want to succeed online. And one of the best places to get traffic is from search engines. The search engine is the motor. Your website is the glider. An engine without a good set of wings will not work. When you place an engine on a glider that can work on its own, you have a plane. Driving traffic to a website that cannot convert will not work. When you feed traffic to a website that can convert, you have a business.

As I ran an online marketing agency offline, I have met countless clients that want all the traffic in the world but completely neglect their websites.
