I add the images in a compressed file. I suppose you'll translate to english ... It gives the user something to watch when he is waiting for the next screen to appear. I do not know whether you prefer to have it here, a forum topic or some other internet page . . . ? So I apologize if it is not apropiate here. I just want to help to make it better. in version 3.65, it worked fine. But after I applied 3.67, I can no longer upload attachment. In order to get this working again; I have to manually copy the older version of the file. The users (engineers) are complaining about duplicated incidents. I suspect they do a refresh of the page which assigns the incident to an engineer. This refresh causes the duplication of the incident --> Reproducible. The users pretend they don't do that (but I do not believe them). Anyways, I included a test before creating the incident. When you are using LDAP to authenticate the user login, the change password functionality does not work. You can successfully change your password, and the request will go through. However, if you try to use the new password to login, it will not work. The old password will still work. Since it can't seem to push the new password back to the directory, I would probably suggest removing that capability when ldap is enabled.

SiT v3.90 is out as Beta 1, after being quietly released around a month ago. Several years in the making, lots of new great stuff, of some which I’ll try and make a short summery of here. Needless to say is that this version has been waited for, for a long time.

First off, I’d like to say that a new theme has been created, called Kriplyana, not only do we have a new theme, we have our own Icons for this theme too. The Icons are released under GNU GPLv2 as with SiT!, so if you want to use these icons for something else, feel free to do so, as long as it’s consistent with the GPLv2 license. The Icon template is available as SVG in the SVN. The iconset is created using Inkscape, and might not work 100% with other vector based graphics programs that support SVG.

And now to a list of highlighted new features:

Plugins Repository
Plugin manager
A whole new trigger system
Possibility to store customers reference info
Feedback is available from the portal
Possibility for a contact to set an incident on hold using the portal
User customization is much improved.
Configurable map link
Files can now be attached to the Knowledgebase.

Update on progress

It’s been a long time since we did a blog entry, so to update everybody of what we’ve been up to here’s some fresh news:

We’ve been working steadily on v3.68, making fixes for about 25 issues. Depending on our workload, we’re likely to release 3.68 this month.

We’ve also been turning our focus more towards the future of SiT!, v3.90 which is now, after three years in development, finally ready for release to a wider audience in the form of a first beta release. With 3.90 we’ve made SiT! easier to use with a more consistent interface and brand new theme (named kriplyana, after the inuit word for snow that looks blue in the early morning). 3.90 contains many improvements both large and small, and I’ll try and find time to blog about them in the coming weeks and months.

We’ve decided to make a new release, which addresses a security issue in the setup.php file.

Thanks to Jonathan Claudius and Robert Foggia of Trustwave SpiderLabs for finding and reporting this.

This upgrade can easily be done, as you only need to overwrite the old setup.php with the version from the 3.67 package.

This release also features some updated Dutch translations thanks to itpp2012.

After an unacceptably long delay long delay (sorry about that!), we have now released SiT v3.66. This is a high priority update that addresses several security issues. We’ve also managed to sneak in a few small features in form of additional triggers. Due to the security issue we strongly recommend you to update to this version as soon as possible.

If you have problems with the translations page, and you are running PHP 5.3.9 or higher, you need to set max_input_vars = 2500 in php.ini. The default after this version is 1000, you can set any high number, but it’s recommended to have more than 2000 for the translations.

Poulvh has so kindly contributed a piece of code to us, that allows NTLM logon, this is mostly useful in a Windows environment, but it allows single signon. So now the users, contacts, managers engineers or whomever you configure to use with the Active Directory backend, will only have to logon to their desktop. Though it will not be implemented for v3.6x you can still add the patches. Please make note that this is a community supplied patch, and we might not be able to help you if you run into problems with this. You can look in our forum for more info regarding the NTLM patch. We’ll make a wiki page for this as soon as possible.

You can download v3.66 of SiT! on the button below. And we have of course also supplied a VMWare machine with this version. You can find the download link for that here.

SiT! Turns 10 Years

10 years ago today SiT! v3 was released as a beta, and immediately went into use at Salford Software, since then it has handled over 27,000 incidents at Salford Software.

In 2005 it was released as free and open source software under the GNU General Public License and a project to expand and improve it was begun, since then it has been downloaded over 40,000 times.

This has all been made possible thanks to contributions from more than sixty people, and now it has made twenty open source releases, has been translated into over 20 languages and is used in six continents.

SiT! started out being pre-printed paper forms, then later a Java program which was version 1 (sometime around 1998). SiT! v2 was a re-write in PHP3 and was a simple system in two parts though it did introduce the concept of contract management. v3 combined the two parts of v2 and added several modules that are still used today, like sites, contracts and user management, though of course they’ve been much improved since then.

It’s an exiting time for us, though it has been a slow year in the development for the v3.90 release (a v4 preview). As some of you know, some of you might not know, the reason for the release of v3.90 is so that we could get new features to you sooner rather than later. In order to do we have had to trim some of the planned features but don’t fret, those features will be heading your way eventually in the v4.00 release.

The developers have worked hard this month, and will continue to do so, perhaps the beta will come sometime by the end of this month? Here’s a tip for you, follow the roadmap for the v3.90 release and you’ll be able to track progress. At the time of the writing we’re almost at 60% done.

Something new, is that a developer day has been introduced. The developer day is a day where developers meet in on IRC (#sit on freenode) to, amongst other things; discuss issues, code, brainstorm ideas, mentor SiT hackers & plugin programmers and whom ever wants to contribute to SiT, and in general have an enjoyable day with everyone on IRC, everyone who is interested is welcome of course. The day in mention will be the first Saturday of every month, we are a friendly bunch and we don’t bite.

Several plugins have been updated since the last news update, so why don’t you check out our plugins repository?

I’d also say a thank you to José Tomás who has helped us with the Portuguese (Portugal) translations and a special thank you to Rob Beckett (aka subwolf) who made his first code contributions to SiT! this week after a sabbatical due to illness, Rob has long been a regular contributor to the fun we have on IRC.

The day has come for the release of SiT! v3.63. This version has been long underway, but though there have been some bug fixes, and almost no new features this version is really recommended due to the fact that it fixes alot of security issues some found by Knud Erik from nSense, and some found by autosectools.com John Leitch & Bryce Darling.

Some of the improvements are:

Better language support for right-to-left reading/writing
MySQL 5.5 support
German de-DE Gabriele Pohl & Raffael Luthiger really improved this one
Russian ru-RU is now again 100% thanks to Алексей Назаров
Polish pl-PL is added and now 90% thanks to Tom Kapelko & Urszula Gola

New Beta Release

We’ve released SiT 3.63 in a beta version, get it here. There have been many bug fixes and most important of all security fixes, thanks to Knud Erik from nsense research for finding these. So please download a copy and help us test it.

Plugins

We have made a plugin repository for your convenience, here you can find the latest releases of a plugin without being afraid of downloading a broken one. The url is here : http://sourceforge.net/projects/sit-plugins/ , just click on files in the menu. If you sign up to the RSS feeds you’ll get notifications when a new plugin is added or when one existing is updated. This is actually a great chance to use the RSS dashlet already shipping with SiT!.

There have been added quite a few updates to plugins and dashlets, and also some cool new plugins. I suggest you take a look at the Plugins Directory in the wiki to see if there is anything that you can use.

Some really useful ones are the Tms Log and the Incident Summary

The Tms Log will give you a nice page where you can view the debug log file and clean it if required.
The Incident Summary Will display the summary of an incident on the incident details page, you’ll have a possibility to easily edit this too. The summary will then be saved in the summary field when closing the incident.

A new tutorial has been added, this one is a, how to expand storage in the VM of SiT! this can, with a few modifications, also be used for a regular Ubuntu using LVM but that’s not explained in the video.

Happy New Year

We are soon entering 2011, which we hope will be a very good year for you.

As a new year present to you I’ve uploaded a new plugin; tms_log, which is a log file viewer.
Though you will not be able to use it.

- Why not? you may ask.
Well the minimum version is for SiT v3.63

- But the v3.63 hasn’t even been released yet.
Thats why I’ve made a special release of the plugin v0.99 which is supported back to v3.50, it has a minor change to let it support the older versions, otherwise it’s the same (just make sure that you upgrade the plugin when you upgrade SiT)
