At the WWDC conference, Apple has revealed the specifications and pricing of their newly updated Mac range computer systems, that is MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. So for those who have waited for the updates, here are the details announced by the company.

“Today we’ve updated the entire MacBook line with faster processors, graphics, memory, flash storage and USB 3 connectivity,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “We’ve made the world’s best portable family even better and we think users are going to love the performance advances in both the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.”

MacBook Air

Below are some highlights of new MacBook Air:

Intel 3rd Generation Core, i.e. Ivy Bridge
Up to 2.0GHz dual-core i7 processor
Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.2GHz
Up to 8GB 1600MHz RAM
Up to 60 percent faster graphics processing
Up to 512GB SSD storage

MacBook Air: Detailed Specifications

Now we’ll talk about the specifications and pricing in detail. But first it’s specifications. The new MacBook Air comes in two screen sizes, i.e. 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch LED display having native screen resolution of 1366 by 768. With Intel’s new 3rd generation Ivy Bridge processors, configurable up to dual-core 2.0GHz Core i7 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.2GHz. It comes with up to 512GB flash storage (i.e. SSD – Solid State Drive), and 4GB 1600MHz DDR3L onboard memory configurable up to 8GB.

While few other notable features of MacBook Air includes upgraded Intel HD graphics 4000, which is 60 percent faster as compared to its predecessors. 720p FaceTime HD camera, two USB 3.0 ports which has a transfer rate of up to 5GB, and Bluetooth 4.0. It comes pre-loaded with OS X Lion upgradable to the new OS X Mountain Lion for free when it arrives this summer.

MacBook Air: Pricing

The new MacBook Air starts shipping today. The pricing of both 11-inch and 13-inch models are as follows:

- Low-end – 1.7GHz dual-core i5 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB flash storage will cost you $999.
- High-end – 2.0GHz dual-core i7 processor, 8GB RAM, 512GB flash storage will cost you $2,149.

- Low-end – 1.8GHz dual-core i5 processor, 4GB RAM, 128GB flash storage will cost you $1,199.
- High-end – 2.0GHz dual-core i7 processor, 8GB RAM, 512GB flash storage will cost you $2,199.

MacBook Pro

Previous-Generation of MacBook Pro

The previous generation of 13 and 15-inch MacBook Pro now comes with updated specifications, which includes Intel’s latest 3rd Generation Ivy Bridge processors which is configurable for up to 2.7GHz quad-core i7 that supports a Turbo Boost speed of up to 3.7GHz, and a new NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M graphics.

You can configure your MacBook Pro with either a 1TB hard drive or SSDs up to 512GB that are up to twice as fast as the previous generation. It also comes with a high-speed Thunderbolt port that allows you to easily connect external displays and two USB 3.0 ports that allow you to connect high performance peripherals.

The New MacBook Pro with Retina Display

At WWDC ’12, Apple also unveiled an all new MacBook Pro with Retina display, SSDs and Intel’s latest quad-core processor, all in a thin and light design, measuring a mere 0.71 inches and weighting only 4.46 pounds. This makes it as thin as MacBook Air.

“The MacBook Pro with Retina display pushes the limits of performance and portability like no other notebook,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “With a gorgeous Retina display, all flash architecture and a radically thin and light design, the new MacBook Pro is the most advanced Mac we have ever built.”

Now we’ll discuss about the specifications of the new MacBook Pro in detail. The new-generation of MacBook Pro comes in 15-inch version, with Retina display, the world’s highest resolution notebook display that has a 2880 by 1800 pixel resolution – that is 220 pixels-per-inch and over 5 million pixels in total, which is 3 million more as compared to an HD television.

Apple’s Retina display uses IPS technology that gives you 178-degree wide viewing angle. The company has also been able to decrease the screen reflection by 75 percent and has increased the contrast by 29 percent, making it easier for users to use it in direct sunlight.

New MacBook Pro: Pricing

The new MacBook Pro starts shipping today. The pricing of 15-inch version are as follows:

The 15-inch MacBook Pro with a 2.3 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.3 GHz, 8GB of memory and 256GB of flash storage starting at $2,199; and with a 2.6 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.6 GHz, 8GB of memory and 512GB of flash storage starting at $2,799.

WWDC ’12: App Store Contains 650k Apps, 400 Million Accounts, 30 Billion Apps Downloaded

Today at WWDC 2012, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed the statistics of the App Store, that it now have over 400 million user accounts. Store has more than 650,000 apps, out of which 225,000 are specifically designed for iPad. And about 30 billion apps downloaded by the customers from the store in total.

Tim Cook further added that the App Store is now available in more than 120 countries, and 35 more will be added by the end of June. This means App Store will be working in over 150 countries.

And since the launch of App Store, about $5 billion been paid by Apple to its app developers.

Cook added, “What we do together is much more important than any set of numbers could reflect. Our Goal has always been to do great work and make a difference in other people’s lives”.

Sixth-Generation iPhone Screen Will Measure At Least 4 Inches Diagonally

Reports suggests that Apple has decided to move towards a larger display for the next iPhone, i.e. sixth-generation iPhone, which is expected to be announced and launched in fourth-quarter this year.

The WSJ reports that according to the “people familiar with the matter”, the company have placed orders with their several Asian-based suppliers for displays that are bigger than the ones used in all earlier generations of iPhone.

According to reports, the next-gen iPhone will have screen size measuring at least 4 inches diagonally, as compared to a 3.5-inch (diagonal) display screen which has been used by company in all models of iPhone since it was first introduced in 2007.

The company might give orders for production to all three of these Asian suppliers and its rumored that early production of new screen will soon begin. Those suppliers includes Japan’s Sharp Corp, South Korea’s LG Display Co Ltd and Japan Display Inc.

Did I mentioned that all the iPhone released since 2007 featured a same display size measuring 3.5-inches. As compared to its competitors, what Apple did is that they increased the display resolution of iPhone. The original iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, all three of them features a display resolution of 480-by-320 pixels, having a pixel density of 163 ppi (pixels-per-inch).

Then by the release of fourth and fifth generation iPhone, that is iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, the company increased the resolution to the whooping 960-by-640 pixels, doubling the pixel density to 326 ppi (pixels-per-inch) and they marketed it as the “Retina display”, making it superior to its competitors. So Apple’s new retina displays are incredible, at least in terms of pixel density.

Now what the Wall Street Journal doesn’t mentioned is that what will be the display resolution of sixth-generation iPhone.

One of the few reasons of Apple increasing the screen size of the next iPhone is might be due to a competition from Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. Samsung unveiled their flagship smartphone, Galaxy Note, featuring a 5.3-inch touchscreen display and is one of the smartphone with largest screen available.

Because of the increase in display size of smartphones, the consumers has now started to use smartphones to complete their day-to-day tasks which they once used to do on their laptops and desktops.

But what I think is, one of the reason behind not increasing the screen size of iPhone is because Apple don’t want to make things difficult for the app developers, that is why they increased the pixel density instead of screen size in the fourth and fifth generation iPhone. This move allowed the developers to port their iPhone 3G/3GS apps to the iPhone 4/4S without much hassle. That is why their App Store is more successful as compared to its competitors.

Jailbreak iOS 5.1 Untethered: Dev Team Bypassed ASLR. One Step Closer To Public Release!

One of the member of iOS dev team has announced via twitter today that they have managed to bypass ASLR at bootup successfully, and now they are one step closer to the public release of iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak.

The team behind this iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak is pod2g, who is iOS security researcher since 2009, has teamed up with the Chronic and iPhone Dev Team to release untethered jailbreak for A5 and A4 based iOS devices.

In case you don’t know, pod2g recently announced via his twitter account that they have all the required exploits, which was one of an important step to perform an iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak on new A5 based iOS devices. And now they have managed to successfully bypass ASLR at bootup which is a great success for team.

What Is ASLR?

For those who are wondering, the address space layout randomization (ASLR) is a security method that randomly arranges important data areas which adds extra security to the operating system. And this security method is being used by Apple since the release of iOS 4.3, making it more difficult for hackers to jailbreak the iOS.

But then the hacker Charlie Miller, at Pwn2Own, had managed to break into the ASLR, which showed us that Apple can do nothing to prevent their mobile operating system from jailbreak attempts.

What Is Estimate Time Of Release For Untethered iOS 5.1 Jailbreak?

The progress of untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 is moving nicely. These updates by pod2g might encourage those who are waiting for untethered iOS 5.1, but at the moment we can not conclude that the jailbreak will be available anytime soon, it will take some time for the team to release it for public.

Yet there is no news by the dev team on when it will be publicly released, though. But still it seems like we are not too far away from the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.

On one side, Dev Team is working hard to jailbreak iOS. While on the other side, Apple is working on improving security of their iOS, mobile operating system, for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, to stop the jailbreakers from hacking into their operating system.

Apple Sold More Than Four Million Units Of iPhone 4S On First Weekend

Apple earlier today announced in a press release that it has sold over four million units of iPhone 4S on first weekend, that is, just three days after its launch on October 14, in seven countries.

iPhone 4S is the most amazing iPhone yet, boasting new features under the hood, like dual-core A5 chip that gives you blazing fast performance and stunning graphics; an all new 8 megapixel camera with advanced optics; full 1080p HD resolution video recording; Siri, an intelligent assistant that helps you get things done just by asking; iCloud; and iOS 5.

As previously announced by Apple, over one million units of iPhone 4S was pre-ordered in just first twenty-four hours, surpassing the previous single day pre-order record of 600,000 units held by iPhone 4. While the most surprising thing is that the external design of both smartphones, iPhone 4S and iPhone 4, is completely similar.

How To Update iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch To iOS 5 In Just 3 Simple Steps

We received some email from our readers asking to write tutorial on how to update iOS device to the new iOS 5 firmware. So here is a complete tutorial that will help you update your iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch to iOS 5 firmware.

Step 1: Preparing For iOS 5 Update

A: Download iTunes 10.5 final for Mac and Windows —it is recommended to download and install iTunes 10.5 because older versions of iTunes are not compatible with iOS 5 firmware.

B: Once you have successfully updated your iTunes to iTunes 10.5, then now it’s time to create a back up of your device —it is advisable to back up your device before updating it to iOS 5 firmware.

Step 2: Creating A Back up

Connect your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch with your computer.

Apple Plans To Celebrate Steve Jobs’ Life On October 19th, at 10 a.m. PT

Tim Cook recently sent an internal email to Apple employees informing them about the plans of celebration of Steve Jobs’ life on October 19th at 10 a.m. pacific time in the outdoor amphitheater of Apple’s One Infinite Loop campus, which is Apple’s HQ in Cupertino, California.

Earlier this week, on October 5th at about 3 p.m., Steve Jobs, Apple’s Co-founder passed away at his home due to respiratory arrest and pancreatic tumor. Steve resigned as Apple’s CEO earlier last month. In his resignation letter, he stated that “I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO”. He also stated that “I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board”. Then soon after his resignation, Apple’s Board of Directors appointed former COO, Tim Cook as the new CEO of Apple.

Steve Jobs’ funeral was held on October 7th, which was completely private and non of the official public memorial was announced. So Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, sent out an email to all the employees that they have planned to celebrate the life of Steve Jobs on Wednesday, October 19.

Like many of you, I have experienced the saddest days of my lifetime and shed many tears during the past week. But I’ve found some comfort in the extraordinary number of tributes and condolences from people all over the world who were touched by Steve and his genius. And I’ve found comfort in both telling and listening to stories about Steve.

Although many of our hearts are still heavy, we are planning a celebration of his life for Apple employees to take time to remember the incredible things Steve achieved in his life and the many ways he made our world a better place. The celebration will be held on Wednesday, October 19, at 10 a.m. in the outdoor amphitheater on the Infinite Loop campus. Apple iPhone 4S comes in two colors either black or white, and will be available in the US for a suggested retail price of $199 for the 16GB model, $299 for the 32GB model, and $399 for the new 64GB model. It will be available at all 245 Apple retail stores in the US beginning at 8 a.m. local time on Friday, October 14.

iPhone 4S will be available from the Apple Online Store, Apple’s retail stores and through AT&T, Sprint, Verizon Wireless, and select Best Buy, Target and Walmart stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers. iPhone 4 is available for just $99 (US) and iPhone 3GS is available for free with a two year contract.

iPhone 4S will roll out worldwide to 22 more countries by the end of October including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
