Yesterday was a beautiful day. There was a clear sky, amazing colors and sun all day. It was cold though… really really cold. Barry and Leonie are my heros. They conquered the cold and we had a great time together. Below are some pictures I shot. We first went to the dunes and the beach. Later when the sun was gone, we played some more with light writing… Hope you like the shots

It’s been a bit too long before I posted something new up here. It’s been crazy since I am back from travelling, but I have so many more pictures I’d like to share with you guys so here is another post. I’ll be posting at least once a week from now on. I could say loads of things. I am not going to. Just a short note… This year has been amazing and I want to thank all of the people who believed in me going onwards with the path I have chosen. The path of photography. I feel blessed and happy in being able to do what I love. This year was just the start.

I shot the picture above a few minutes ago. I am celebrating New Year’s Eve in Costa Rica. Tranquilo, with a pool. Maybe some fireworks. Who knows. Anyway… I wish you all a heck of a night and an amazing 2012!

Costa Rica. The rich coast. Columbus, as the popular story goes, was right to call it that way. A beautiful country filled with birds, wildlife, jungle, sun, beaches, lovely people and gold, to which Columbus was referring. The last two weeks of my journey through South and Central America will be spent here in this amazing place. Together with my girlfriends family we will be visiting some of the countries most beautiful places. Too many to name, too little time to visit them all. But we’ll have a great time nonetheless and return one day to see more…

Below are some shots I have taken in the past week. Just random images of joy and beauty. I’ll return with more images next week. For now, I am back to enjoying the beaches and a beer. Have a great New Year’s eve and all the best for 2012! I know it will be an amazing year!

Streetlife. Life of the streets. Living on the streets? Working on the streets… Hmm. Many things going through my mind at the moment. How can I best describe the photos below. Probably with all of the previously mentioned. It’s stunning to see what takes place on the streets of Latin America. So many people living, working and sleeping on those streets. It’s an integral part of their lives. This is where it all takes place. Everything. The real and amazing Latin America.

I had a different post lined up for today. It would have been filled with pictures of people. People with small businesses working the streets of Rio de Janeiro, Bogotá, Cartagena, Santa Marta… Though sometimes things change and yesterday they did. Something unexpected happened which makes today’s post even more interesting I think. You see, what happened was that I met this family pictured below at the beach. A small Colombian family enjoying their day off. We talked a bit. Drank a bit. Talked some more, since my Spanish improved from drinking. Played some soccer on the beach and after a couple of hours me and my girlfriend where invited to go and eat diner with them in a nearby town. Not only did we eat diner together, afterwards we were even invited to their home to drink some coffee.

You see, this is what makes travelling so amazing I guess. Meeting people. Talking. Getting to know cultures and countries. Sharing thoughts and dreams. I had an amazing time yesterday and I am glad I can give something back to them in the form of the pictures I shot during the day.

I hope you like them. For me they are priceless.

Ok, so I promised pictures of Colombia by now. I know. I just had some left from Brasil I wanted to share… Kinda feels like I didn’t want to leave Brasil yet. Don’t get me wrong, Colombia is awesome. Amazing country… it’s just Rio de Janeiro folks. Oh man! What a place… Anyway, I have some beach pictures I thought I’d share. I do relax as well you know. Forgive me if it becomes boring. Next round of pictures will be a bit more focussed on the people of South America. Interesting stuff

A while ago I did a shoot for a friend of mine. A family portrait session. She told me I could do anything I wanted. Well almost anything. I had been walking around with the idea of bringing furniture outside for a shoot for some time now and I saw an opportunity. Luckily my friend and her family really loved the idea so we went for it. That was part 1.

Now for part 2 we took it a little further. I say we because this time I collaborated with another photographer (Joep Roosen), a stylist (Froukje den Nijs) a make-up artist (Samara Beesemer) and two amazing models (Johan Zandbergen & Annemieke Izaks). Together with Joep and Froukje multiple brainstorm sessions where held and eventually we had a good idea of what we wanted the final image to look like. It should be outside (duh), in a park of some sort and it would be a multiple exposures shot during the night blended together afterwards in photoshop. The styling of the models would need to show a fifties vibe as should the set itself and we wanted to portray a typical fifties household scene.

After all the hard thinking had been done, Joep and I build a wall and bought a floor which together would become our Outside Living set. With Froukje and Joep I went to buy all sorts of props for on our set. Think chair, cupboard, old phone, clock and many more things. Froukje did an amazing job on getting the outfits and all the accessories for Johan and Annemieke and Samara performed a great job in make-up and hair. After some careful planning we decided to go for it a couple of weeks ago. Although this is just a test (our goal is to do more shoots next year), the result is absolutely stunning in my opinion. What we did is create multiple shots and layer them in photoshop. Joep did a great job in the post processing section to get this amazing result. So without further ado… we present you, our first Outside Living picture. We hope you like it… oh and be assured, we will be doing much more shots soon!

Ok, me and my girl are on our own again. Sadly our friends have left the continent and went back to good cold Amsterdam. Well actually I’m kinda cold as well at the moment, so no joking about that. I’m currently in Bogotá, you know, the capital of Colombia. Well, it appears that this place lies 2600m above sea level, meaning, cold and wet! Anyway, back to photos with sunny beaches and palm trees everywhere, well some of the days we were there at least… Just before our friends left we went to this little place called Saquarema. It’s close to Rio. A bus drive away you could say. Well, it is actually… Just check the pictures below, it’s my final post about Brasil before we move on to pictures from Colombia. Or I might sneak in one more, we’ll have to see.

I am writing this post at 1.50am from a little tropical island called Ilha Grande. I am sitting downstairs at our hostel and all the lights are off. Though it might sound like nothing is happening, streetlife is busy busy. Just in front of the hostel people are moving around, from and to the beach… chatter and singing can be heared from every direction. I love this kind of living… Tonight while editting the pictures below I fully engulfed in this lifestyle while watching it joyfully with a beer in my hand.

That being said, the pictures below are about something completely different. These shots come straight from the streets of Rio de Janeiro. Beautiful walls filled with graffiti. Not just writing a tagline, but pieces of art. I just had to show you a couple and believe me.. this is just the tip of the iceberg of what can be seen when in Rio de Janeiro.

Amazing colors and intriguing scenes, don’t you think!? These people are talented artists, so this is a small homage to them and their art. Next post will be more from our trip through Latin America, but I just had to share these graffiti shots first. Hope you don’t mind…
