So I’m not really sure if skateboarders should be pleased with this or not — so you guys gotta help me figure out! Please don’t hesitate to leave your comments about this, aight?

Apparently the guys over at Formula One think that some “changes” are “necessary” after everyone suddenly realized that watching a grand prix was ‘unbearably tedious’. (Like duh…that’s why skateboarding aficionados like us turn to skateboards and skates and not to four wheel monsters!)

These “changes” are supposed to be part of the FIA organization’s plans to overhaul Formula One with exciting new features, including hand to hand combat and an elephant on a skateboard.

Yup, you read that right. Elephant on a skateboard!

Under the so-called “new rules,” drivers can only take part in the race after fighting their way through a gruelling series of televised combats, including bare-fisted punching and an 18th century duel, featuring antique pistols and powdered wigs. Another catch is that the top three drivers in each race will then be able to pick up extra points if they can beat an elephant on a skateboard over half a mile.

Now I wonder if the elephant itself will even approve of this! What do you guys think? Should the FIA continue with these “plans”? Don’t you think they’re abusing the animal and the sanctity of skateboarding as well?

This is one of the reasons why skateboarding can definitely be deemed as one sport that has “HEART.”

On Saturday, more than 60 skateboarders participated in a fund raising activity which aimed to raise money for the children of a man who died of an inoperable brain aneurysm.

Passionate skateboarders - both newbies and pros - uniting for a cause! This is one beautiful and heartwarming piece of news, indeed!

The skaters competed to raise money for Josh Prince’s family. Josh died Sept. 20, 2007, at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. He was 27 and left behind a wife, Shannon, and three children, Logan, Tyler and Andie. The children are all 7 or younger.

He was a manager at Eastern Edge Surf Shop in New Bern - and that means that he has many concerned friends. Several employees of Eastern Edge organized a “Grip It and Rip It Skate Jam” competition, to raise money for his children.

Now who says skating is just one useless past time activity?

I really hope that this endeavor can also be emulated by others. We should use sports as the means to pay it forward - give back to those who need and do something worthwhile with our time - while at the same time having fun doing it!

Some pretty good news for us all, I must say! Six Flags Discovery Kingdom will add a skateboard park this summer featuring a slalom course, jumps and ramps!

Who’s so damn excited as I am? Raise your skates!!!

This new offering at the Six Flags will coincide with the opening of the ultra new Tony Hawk Big Spin rotating roller coaster as well as the Fuzion Zone skate park. According to reports, the new offer will be included with the price of admission as part of an “experiential marketing” campaign of sorts between the Vallejo amusement park-marine park-zoo and Emeryville scooter-skateboard maker NextSport.

What’s also good about this is that you can expect pro skaters to do demonstrations all year-round! Now that’s quite a dose of lessons from the professionals, don’t you think?

Fuzion, by the way, combines the wide, concave deck, polyurethane wheels and articulated rear axle of a skateboard with the T-shaped handlebar of a scooter. Now in the Six Flags area, interested skaters can test drive the Fuzion scooter-skateboards for up to 15 minutes. Not bad, I should say!

So you boys and girls now have a new reason to save up!

While I know that there are a lot of ultra modern skateboards out there, there really are times when you just want to “reminisce” and remember those good ol’ days when the funky, stylish designs for skateboards piqued the interest of skateboarders everywhere.

Even though those skateboards of before didn’t have the high tech features such as motorized capabilities, GPRS and yep,

even wi-fi (wireless fidelity — can you imagine this one? Who would ever think that skateboards of today can even have wi-fi?!) as those of today, they proved to be every skater’s bestfriend and ultimate pride and joy. Here are some that I recently found on the Internet (thank goodness they’re still around and are even on sale!):

The Element Brent Atchley Skateboard.

Looks pretty old school but I just like the details in this one. I like the custom artwork, the silver pro trucks and silver wheels, the pretty good grip tape and fast bearings.

The latest one I found is being sold for a good price - $140.00 (US).

Another skateboard that I like is the Layback Aloha 36 inch skateboard.

The manufacturer says their products are completed via factory assemble. That’s one of the good things about Layback skateboards - they’re skateboards that you can use directly out of the box.

Just imagine getting one for your birthday - you open the box and it’s ready to use!

I also like the wheels on this one, the bearings as well as the grip tape — and of course, the pretty attractive design.

I’m sure the girl skateboarders/skating aficionados out there would definitely not mind bringing this one along!

Can you call broken skateboards nailed to trees and sneakers hanging from their limbs works of art? This very same question has been and is still a big issue in Fayetteville.

Apparently, the said city’s Board of Adjustment says it’s hardly a work of art. Instead, they think that it’s even an illegal sign!

Voting 4-1 Monday, the Board announced their belief that the skateboards and sneakers are illegal signs. Much to the dismay of skateboarders and skating aficionados, of course.

The nailed skateboards and the sneakers can all be found outside the Blount Street Skate shop, owned by Ross Roggio. Roggio even plans to appeal the Board’s decision at the Superior Court.

All I can say is — good luck and I really hope that the decision be overturned!

I personally believe that this is a work of art - yes, a memorial of sorts, a shrine where skateboarders and skaters can just go and be able to exchange their thoughts about their skateboarding passion. How can those be illegal signs? How can those even disrupt our daily lives? How can those pose danger or threats against anything and anybody?

I have a strong feeling that this is just a result of some weird political ploy. Certain people are just jealous. That’s all there is to it.

Now if you’re asking why this is a big deal somehow, well here goes. The Taos Ski Valley has long been known as a skier’s-only paradise. So now that the said resort is welcoming snowboarders, everyone’s geared up, excited and ready to test the grounds.

Taos will open its doors on March 19. Check this website out for more details.
Fortunately for some of the world’s best snowboarding enthusiasts, they will have the early opportunity to get a sneak preview of Taos’ terrain during the Salomon Extreme Freeride Championships. The Salomon championship event is reportedly the largest skiing competition in New Mexico and yup, organizers have added a snowboarding division.

Wonder who’ll enter this competition?

Did anybody watch what happened to Slovakian forward Richard Zednik of the Florida Panthers yesterday?

Did anybody watch what happened to Slovakian forward Richard Zednik of the Florida Panthers yesterday?

The famous skater took a nasty cut on the Sunday’s game against Buffalo. Who would even think that Olli Jokinen, one of his teammates, would even be the one who’ll hurt him?

Zednik’s neck got sliced - get that — SLICED!!! — when Jokinen’s skate hit his teammate’s neck. OMG. It’s like Friday the 13th meets Urban Legends!

Zednik was hurt midway through the third period of the game. Because of the incident, the game had to be delayed for 15 minutes.

Now this will definitely be one story about a pro skater that’ll go down to the books! This is like a scene straight out from a horror film, I tell you!

Hopefully this has something to do with the same Nintendo Wii skateboard that I’ve just blogged about. The owner says that it’s supposed to be a “Wii-mote” and it has the brand “Black Market.”
Anybody has one of these babies yet? The owner claims it’s just around $20.00 - not bad, eh?
