HRT Write-Up

Top Left Bracket:

#1 Andrew vs play-in winner – If you can get Andrew on Lane…. nah, can’t do it. Hope Emily and Carli enjoy the pre and post HRT festivities. Andrew on to Rd. 2.

#16 Alex vs #17 Tayla – These two were virtually even come skeeson end, no matter what metric you use. Going with Tayla here in a tight one. She was just a touch more consistent, might give her the edge she needs to advance.

#9 Marissa vs #24 Sandy – too much power here for Sandy, this might get Marissa going early…

#8 Chuck vs #25 Liz – Going with Liz in the upset. Liz keeps it close, then her hundos catch fire in the tiebreaker round…. Liz on to Rd 2!

#1 Andrew vs #17 Tayla – Andrew isn’t quite himself as he started to feel the pressure, but he does enough to close out Tayla and advance. Ho hum.

#9 Marissa vs #25 Liz – Marissa puts an end to Liz’ hot rolling from Rd 1 and has really found her form up the middle. Marissa on to the next round.

Elite 8 match – #1 Andrew vs #9 Marissa – Marissa keeps her hot rolling going and Andrew starts to feel a liiiiittle tight. Come Rd 2 and Andrew wishes he had a water close by. Marissa closes him out with a last ball hundo in Rd 2, sending Andrew to the rails! Marissa on to the Final Four!

Bottom Left Bracket:

#4 Steve vs play-in winner – Steve gets his groove on and starts to make his bid for yet another HRT. Steve on to the next round.

#13 Johnny vs #20 Katie – This is a great match, and I expect it to go the full three rounds. I’ll take Katie in a nailbiter as she makes just enough hundos to pull the upset.

#12 Ramit vs #21 Sebastian – Battle of the #1 and #3 rookies, with Ramit especially having an amazing skeeson. THE ONLY PERSON WITH A 40 STREAK??? Am I reading that correctly? *Insert mind blown emoji here* Great skeeson Sebastian……..Ramit on to the next round.

#5 Ben (WTF Ben?????) vs play-in winner – Welp, hope Chelsea and Shannon wear pajamas because one of them is getting put to bed about 0.5 seconds after the match starts. Who would have thought finishing #28 would get the reward of having to face a disgruntled Ben with a chip on his shoulder. That is if Ben even shows up. FIFTH?? Do you even get a player’s card for that? Haven’t seen a second half collapse like this since the Falcons/Patriots Superbowl. Sigh, Ben advances.

#4 Steve vs #20 Katie – Katie makes a good effort, but Steve just has a knack for finding ways to win. The limited field also gives Steve a big advantage, as he is less likely to be too drunk to roll at his peak = trouble for everyone. Steve on to the next round.

#12 Ramit vs #5 Ben – David vs Goliath (well, Goliath of skeesons past at least). Ramit comes out swinging and puts forth a huge effort, but 40s just won’t cut it this round. Ben shakes the Justin out of his hundo form and gets in a groove. Ben to the Elite Eight.

#4 Steve vs #5 Ben – Two faces on the Mt. Rushmore of Skee (unless you ask Rob) do battle with the winner taking on Marissa to get to the Finals. Ben can’t help but think about where he is going to sleep if he gets there and takes her down, and without 100% focus he isn’t getting past Steve, who is in the ZONE at this point. Ben crashes and burns like he did Week 8, and Steve rides his hot form to the Final Four.

Top Right Bracket:

#2 Dawson vs play-in winner – WOW – Dawson all the way up to the #2 spot. Love it. Is it his time!?!? Dawson gets off to a hot start, and even though I anticipate a solid showing from the other roller, Dawson moves on.

#15 Greg vs #18 Jennings – Should be a great battle, but you can’t teach experience. Greg has put in the time, and it pays off here, sending him to the next round.

#10 Robo vs #23 Viggy – Robo can roll with the best of them when he is on, and always plays his best in the HRT. Viggy is going to need to hit a super high percentage of hundos to offset Robo, and it’s just too tall an order. Robo moves on.

#7 Corey vs #26 Ryan – I see this one just like the match above. Corey is just so consistent doesn’t make egregious mistakes. Always puts the pressure on his opponent, and his middle is just too solid to lose early. Corey on to the next round.

#2 Dawson vs #15 Greg – Dawson keeps his momentum going, pounding away at the 40s and 50s, proving to be just too much for Greg here. Greg does his best to keep up, but Dawson puts up big numbers that are hard to keep pace with. Maybe it gets to a tiebreaker round, but I just don’t see it. Dawson advances.

#10 Robo vs #7 Corey – Powerhouse matchup here. I’ll take Corey if I must, he’s just a little more consistent – but Robo could easily take this. As much of a tossup as we could have drawn up. Should be fun to watch! Corey with a last ball hundo to take it.

#2 Dawson vs #7 Corey – Get your popcorn ready. Dawson and Corey trade big frames, but Dawson’s hundos pull away down the stretch of the tiebreaker frame and gets him the victory. Expect to hear celebrations no matter where you are in the bar. Dawson is FIRED UP and on to the Final Four.

Bottom Right Bracket:

#3 Pat vs play-in winner – Nothing against Thomas, but we’re rooting for Dionne. That’s your wifeeee Patty! Early showers for someone, Pat moves on.

#14 Jen vs #19 Nate – Should be a great matchup, and whoever wins certainly has the ability to make a deep run. I’ll give this one to Jen, as Nate had a much improved second half, but Jen had her best weeks 7 and 8, so she’s coming in HOT! Jen to the next round.

#11 Jeff vs # 22 Karen – Jeff had a great skeeson but wasn’t rolling his best the last few weeks. I think he has a nice reset here, and gets things going in the right direction again, just in time. Won’t be easy though.

#6 Brian vs play-in winner – Like Steve, Brian is an HRT monster. Not an enviable position to be in, having to play him in the opener. Brian does his thing, and cruises with big scores up the middle. Brian on to the next round.

#3 Pat vs #14 Jen – This one goes to the tiebreaker. Jen has had good runs in the HRT, but Patty can see the light at the end of the tunnel…. a potential matchup with Dawson looms. Pat does enough work wit his hundos to advance.

#11 Jeff vs #6 Brian – Brian needs to be careful here, as this is the one I think has the biggest potential for an upset. Brian has proved to be a big-time pressure roller in the HRT, and it’s a steep mountain to climb for Jeff. Ultimately, I think Brian escapes, but this one will have the feel that it could have gone either way.

#3 Pat vs #6 Brian – Another heavyweight battle deep in the HRT. How many combined HRTs here? Like Tom Brady counting his rings, going to need two hands. The other 2 spots in on the Mt. Rushmore of Skee – calm down Ev – if there was a Mt. Rushmore of 40 streaks, you’d be on it I think Pat does JUST enough to outlast Brian here. Going to the tiebreaker frame, possibly even the last ball. Pat on to the Final Four!

FINAL FOUR:

#9 Marissa vs #4 Steve – Marissa comes out firing, but Steve is locked in. Marissa puts up some big scores, but Steve was BORN to play in the HRT. His 50s and hundos put him just out of reach from Marissa, and Steve moves on to the Finals. Another HRT in store??

#2 Dawson vs #3 Patty – This match should be roped off, and tickets sold for the front row. Can Dawson get past his BFF and get to the Finals and win his first HRT? This is going to the tiebreaker round for sure. Dawson, like last round, goes bananas with his hundos – Patty runs some early, but can’t quite pull himself to victory. DAWSON TO THE FINALS!

#4 Steve vs #2 Dawson – The two best rollers of the day square off in epic fashion. This will not be for the faint of heart. I see this as 2-2, with an all-or-nothing fifth frame battle ensuing. IT IS DAWSON’S TIME! Dawson keeps his hot rolling going and outlasts Steve with a big final frame. Everyone goes wild, except for the previous HRT winners who want to keep the winners circle small. Dawson is no longer the 1990s Buffalo Bills.

Dawson is the Skeeson 35 HRT Champ!

The time has come for the latest edition of the High Rollers Report! We say it every Skeeson- “Anything can happen in the HRT.”

Here’s what we know for sure:

Dionne is a Skee Queen, Patty is her Jester

Ben changes a hundo diapers but can’t hit hundos anymore

Andrew and Devin couldn’t hack it in Boston so they joined a Salem league

The league is better without Duke (and Everett) ruining things

Andrews Bracket #1 Seed (is this a typo?)

Potential Matches to Watch – Bad Moms Club?

Marissa in Liz used to nurse hangovers, now, children…. Personally, this is the match I would love to see. Couple old school rollers meeting in the Round of 16 for a spot in the Elite 8. – Marissa eventually is too much for Liz (or Chuck) and moves on.

Bracket Winner –

Without an HRT on her resume, some question if Marissa has the mental fortitude to go the distance. Couple things she has going for her, the field is now limited to 32 and she is most likely going to play an average Salem roller to book a trip to the final 4. Salem Skee is equivalent to the G League of the NBA. For these reasons, Marissa comes out of formerly someone way betters’ bracket with ease. On to the Final Four for Marissa.

Dawson’s Bracket #2 Seed

Bracket Sleepers – Greg and Bart

Bart, built like a truck but occasionally finds the center and pops off. Could he shock the world and send a LOADED Dawson packing in round 1. Greg on the other hand…. “this guy fucks”. Cool, calm, collected… with years of being Ben’s under study I feel he has what it takes to make some noise.

*Honorable mention (Cory)

Is Cory really a sleeper? A tried-and-true Veteran with accolades galore, his strongest attribute is aligning himself on teams with Mount Rushmore caliber rollers…. Can he break through in 2024 to make a name of his own?

Robo….

Is he really the 10 seed? Guy has made a living off lurking in the weeds and striking like a snake…. Robo vs Cory matchup could easily be the winner of the HRT this year.

Bracket Winner – hmm?

Dawson is one of those guys who loudly goes about his business. consistently shown that he is capable of making it to the finals of the HRT, then crumble once the pressure is on. You better pray this guy doesn’t turn green and Hulk Smash you to death. With that said, Dawson is too drunk from winning back 2 back Chalices…. On to the Final Four for Cory

Pat’s Bracket #3 Seed

Bracket Sleeper – Jen Tanner

Has Jen taken a season off since Skee Boston started? Nobody is more deserving or due than her. When she isn’t frequenting space mountain we all know she can be found at TGB… I have her breaking hearts this year with a deep run.

Match to watch – Pat vs Dionne

We all know Pat loves his wife…. But he REALLY loves HRT trophies. Does he put Dionne in a guillotine choker early or does she take a stand and make him sweat this one out?

Bracket Winner – Brian

Like Jen, Brian is a staple of the Skee Boston community… only difference is he’s won this thing once or twice (fact check me). Patty is also a little foggy from drinking Naragansetts from his B2B chalice …. On to the Final Four for Brian.

Steve’s Bracket (Not Ben) #4 Seed

Bracket Sleeper – #20 Katie Gaudette

Katie, recently off her witch trial in Salem, flying high on her broomstick waiting for the right time to strike…. I think she has learned a thing or two watching Andrew beat up on the Salem crowd and is primed to make a deep run. Long road ahead though, needs to make a statement against Johny, then Steve.

Bracket Winner –

Ben and Steve, both widely considered Skeeball OG’s, probably First Ballot hall of famers, this could be the greatest display of talent we see all HRT. Ben, with a chip on his shoulder from rolling dogshit all season; sub 400 average, outside the top 4, no chance at a chalice (Love to see it tbh) …On to the Final Four for Ben.

-FINAL FOUR-

#9 MARISSA VS #5 BEN

With both top seeds gone from the left side I foresee a match of the ages, potentially causing a riff in the Fountain household for weeks to come. The second husband wife matchup of the day goes to the one who wears the pants…. Marissa. Motherly strength and determination are too much for Ben…. That and he has a long history of choking in the big moments.

#7 CORY VS #6 BRIAN

Two quiet guys battling it out … this one has the makings to produce on lane fireworks. Cory rides an extra-frame victory to the finals.

-FINALS-

#9 MARISSA VS #7 CORY

Will we see another female rise to the top, stand next to the legend herself, Salvucci! I think so… like Ben, the pressure may be too much for Cory to handle. Good luck to all, hail FIRST TIME HRT CHAMPION MARISSA!

Could this be the skeeson of the underdogs? Let’s see some fresh faces in the final brackets and imagine some major upsets.

To make it fair to the rest of us, this ghost writer thinks Andrew should have to roll with a hula hoop. Have you seen his stride? That hip roll has served him well but let’s give the rollers a chance by giving him an amusing handicap (perhaps an 11th frame next skeeson…). With this leveled playing field, the path is clear for Tanner to make it to quarter-finals and go up against not one but TWO rollers with Marissa+tiny human.

How did we get to a Marissa-Tanner match-up? Well, after the great triumph of last skeeson with his first team trophy, Steve will experience an unfortunate but humble fall from grace, losing to Marissa after defeating Abby, who will be sporting some appropriately athletic specs having worn colorful ones all skeeson but taking Super Saturday to the next level of serious play.

In quarterfinals, Marissa’s stride will be broken by frequent bathroom trips given that tiny human sitting on her bladder and Tanner will use this to her advantage, progressing to semi-finals.

How did Heather make it from the pickleball court to the semi-final match up? All she had to do was show up half-way through the tournament and use her beginner’s luck to roll two games in record time, crush the competition and then make eye contact with Pat which is enough to send him heading for the hills. Heather wins by default and Pat gets another ‘gansett. But he won’t be at the bar alone.

On the other side of the bracket, even this specter can’t imagine a world where Ben isn’t in the quarter-finals where he’ll battle southpaw Robo. Representing lefties everywhere, Robo will take it to semi-finals where he’ll face Salvucci in a surprise match-up for the ages.

Butters will have a short-lived triumph before Dawson crushes his dreams a la week 6’s 11th frame. Dawson will have to find the delicate balance of enough drinks at 10am to get his team to finals without being too far gone for the HRT, a balance he has yet to find in his 10+ years of Super Saturdays.

She doesn’t love the drama, it loves Skal-ducci and she’ll be the antihero to some as she sends Dawon packing back to Skal to lick his wounds (does this count as insider trading, sending people to her bf’s place of business in a vulnerable state to drink away their sorrows?). Even if this prediction proves untrue, don’t listen to Crosby, no one can prevent drunk Dawsons. Dawson will join Pat at the bar and team Limp Wristit will console each other into the early morning hours.

This brings us to our final match-up and in case you are one of the few who claims to not watch women’s sports and are asking yourself “who runs the lane?”. Girls. Tanner vs. Christina in the final round will end with the league entering the Skal-vucci Era. With her EPIC 900 roll this skeeson and the power of T.Swift in her corner, Christina will f* the patriarchy and collect an HRT trophy with a score of 1989.

Now it is time to find out who is the best individual roller here at skeeboston. You all rolled for 8 weeks pretending to be each other’s friends, but you can drop that act now.

Let’s start with the 4 seed bracket: Andrews Awesome Corner

Has Andrew won a HRT before? Honestly I am not really sure, he probably should have. But I do know that Chuck, Robo and Brian all have and guess what, they are all here too. I should probably come up with another name for the bracket but it’s too late, ChatGPT does not want to rewrite this. Super rookies Tayla and Kellie both win their play-in matches and unfortunately now have to go against Andrew and Brian. I think the rookies can pull off one frame each but the experience from these two high rollers is too much.

Robo beats Katie G and a furious Andrew gets revenge, knocking out Robo. He does not even need lane 1 to do it.

Chuck will beat Megan but not before she rolls a couple combos to make it interesting.

Chuck versus Brian is everything you want in a HRT match. High hundo possibility, combo or 50 streak highly likely. If I could make this a best of seven I would because it would be worth it. Brian wins the frame he goes for hundos, Chuck wins the frame he goes for hundos, the up the middle frame Brian tries for 50s and misses a couple. Chuck does his thing and rolls a combo to beat Brian.

Chuck versus Andrew wont be on lane 1 and Andrew loses. I will now rename this part of the bracket Chuck’s Cool Corner.

Chuck moves on to the final 4!

Up next is the 3 seed bracket: Dawsons Drunk Corner

This is the highest seed Dawson has been before and he is ready to win his first HRT. He has the likes of Moody, Marissa and Greek in his way though. Super rookies Nicholas and Sandy win their play-in games but also unfortunately now face Dawson and Greek. Depending on what time of day this is Dawson could be locked in, or blacked out, good news is he rolls pretty good either way, He and Greek win their first round matchups.

Moody and Marissa also squeak by after dropping early frames to Jeff and Abby.

Marissa versus Greek goes much the same way as the Brian Chuck match up. Greeks score relies too much on his hundos and being limited here Marissa beats him up the middle.

Similarly Moody seizes on his opportunity here and reminds Dawson why he has already won a HRT. He wins the first frame, Dawson pushes for hundos on the second one but can’t connect.

Marissa versus Moody to punch their ticket to the final four. Both had a strong finish to the season and have been rolling well. I give the edge to Marissa, she has seen all the recent success Ben has had and wants to put up some new hardware in her house.

Marissa moves on to the final 4!

Now we have the 2 seed bracket: Pattys Party Corner

I really want a Pat versus Dionne elite 8 here, but I don’t know if I can get that wild with my picks. Instead we have consistent high roller Cory, Jerry, and always tournament contender Karen in this bracket. Just one play-in game here where Carlie wins the opportunity to go against Pat. Pat is not focused on the game at all, but he still wins this first match. Karen has to go against her teammate Janet in the first round. She leans on her tournament experience to get the win here. Jerry beats Butters and Cory beats Dionne, ruining the Pat/Dionne match up for everyone.

Jerry versus Cory is a close match up until Cory switches to hundo mode and hits a 81 beating Jerry’s 54. Now eliminated from the HRT Dionne can help keep Pat focused and he beats Karen.

Now we have Cory versus Pat. Cory rolled more combos than Pat did this season and I think that’s going to come into play here. His consistency up the middle leads him to victory after both rollers use their hundos frame one.

Cory moves on to the final 4!

And now the 1 seed bracket: Bens Ballin Corner

What has he not won in the last 2 or 3 seasons? I can’t even keep track at this point. Rob quit and is basically handing all the awards to Ben since Pat is distracted running the league and Andrew can’t roll on lane 1 all the time. Polischuk wins the play-in game because he basically lives for the end of the season. In a return to form he rolls a combo and hits a 900. That’s 900 insults per hour, he could never hit a 900. All that is not enough to stop Ben. Nate and Johnny have a great battle as the 16/17 matchup with Lake Nate winning in the 3rd frame. Salvucci shows her HRT winning skills and beats Viggy and Steve shows his HRT winning skills and beats Greg.

Now that I have made it this far and seen the whole bracket I think there are 15 HRT wins on the left side and 3 on the right side. Seems balanced.

Ben beats Nate and Steve beats Salvucci.

Team 1101 teammates now face off to get into the final four. Steve wins RPS and has Ben roll first. He goes up the middle and does not do well. Steve responds with a 50 streak. Steve opens trying for hundos but misses early, switching back to middle and 50-ing out. Ben manages an up the middle win to even it 1-1. Now it’s a hundo shoot out. Ben averaged 2.2 more hundos per frame than Steve did this season. Ben wins.

Ben moves on to the final 4!

Ben versus Chuck

Both have won Chalices and HRTs. One crushes the combos, while one crushes the hundos. Last time I checked the rule book for the HRT, two winning combos beat a killer hundo frame, even if it is a 900. Chuck methodically takes the two middle frames despite Ben’s very impressive display of hundos.

Marissa versus Cory

Cory likely opens with a 40 streak putting big pressure on Marissa. She rolls well enough up the middle to have a chance with a last ball hundo but misses. She starts her next frame nailing 50s and wins the second frame with a good middle frame while Cory saves his hundos for the 3rd frame. One time Cory rolled a 900 in the final frame of a team championship after he had mathematically lost. So jot that down. He rolls a 72. Marissa has a strong response but ultimately falls short giving Cory his first HRT finals.

Chuck versus Cory

C & C Music Factory Everybody Dance Now, here we go finals time. We are going to need all 5 frames for this one for sure. Two rollers who are consistent up the middle and can put up big hundo frames when needed. Chuck has the edge on the middle game and Cory is the better hundo shooter. With the HRT finals cycling through the lanes Cory gets to pick the lane he wants to burn his hundo frame dropping the hammer on Chuck. It will just depend where his favorite lane lands in the cycle and if he is leading or trailing at that point. I think things will be in his favor pulling out a couple last ball hundos that take what would have been a 40 streak to a 420 score beating a Chuck combo. In dramatic fashion lets pretend he rolls a 900 in the 5th frame to cap off his first HRT win!

Rollers!!! Playoffs had some close matchups but we have gone all chalk with the top 4 seeds heading to Super Saturday to try and take home Season 30’s Chalice. #1Skeeing is Believing will take on #4 DDP while #2 Golden Sachems will take on #3 AFSkee Richmond is what should be some GREAT matchups and should lead to a very entertaining final. Games will start at 10:15, Finals should start around 11:45 so if you want to see the finals live, come around noon! All other activities will start around 1 PM!

In the spirit of one ghost writer taking on the playoff preview, I had another one willing to take on the High Roller Tournament and this one should be a doozy. Reminder, for those the ghost writer wrote about/trash talked/praised/etc, note it’s all in good, clean fun! I’m editing this live and all comments from yours truly (will be written like this). So without further ado, I give you the HRT Predictions!

The time has come for the 30th edition of the High Rollers and Run for the Chalice Report!

We say it every Skeeson – “Anything can happen in the HRT.” But is that that really true?

Here’s what we know for sure:

Beers will be flowing (YEP)

Duke will blow off another Super Saturday (a tradition unlike any other!)

Everett is still the goat of 40’s (EIGHT 40 streaks) (he’s running laps around us at this point)

Ben will be watching the championship match from the sidelines (sigh)

HIGH ROLLER REPORT

Rob’s Bracket #1 Seed

Bracket Sleeper – Cory Magno

After a successful Skeeson 29 campaign on Rob’s back Cory is looking to cement himself as a true team anchor and climb up the solo ladder. This year he is in a unique situation for HRT! He can showcase his skills and potentially meet Rob in an elite 8 matchup to silence critics and solidify his march to the top. (a battle from last season’s champs always fun)

Lost but Not Forgotten – Brian Aldridge

For those of you keeping score at home…Brian has three of these HRT trophies laying around so don’t forget about him. Currently he sits at the 16 seed but you can never count out a proven champion on his favorite day of the Skeeson. PER SOURCES: His 356 average and empty runs to an HRT since Season 25 is due to enhanced focus on being a great dad… early rumblings, Liz is watching the kids so he can focus on a 4th HRT.

Bracket Upset – #17 Alex Green def. #16 Brian Aldridge

In one breath, we know Aldridge is elite and a proven winner but the determination from Alex Green these last few seasons have not gone unnoticed. Finishing this season only 6 points behind Brian but 11 higher last season this could be the matchup to watch. They are both hungry but I have Green squeaking out a win in a game 3 hundo roll off. (insert eye emojis here!)

Potential Matches to Watch – #1 Rob vs #9 Dawson

What a match this would be! Hopefully Dawson has the memory of a goldfish and forgets the result of last year’s final four matchup. Rob may be too drunk to outlast the strength of the hulk, look for Dawson to shake off his three runners up finishes and move onto the FINAL FOUR. (at least the writer is being daring with some predictions, the crowd will go wild if this happens)

Bracket Winner – John Dawson

Ben’s Bracket #2 Seed

Bracket Sleepers – #18 John Greek

FUN FACT: When Greek isn’t playing Skeeball he can be found bringing joy to unsuspecting attendees at the garden through kiss cam or fans of the game dances. John is a one of a kind guy and wily veteran dating back to the early seasons. Don’t sleep on him or you may be the one going NIGHT NIGHT!

Potential Match to Watch – #10 Christina Salvucci vs #23 Mike Moody

Very rarely do you get two past HRT champions playing against each other in the second round. Salvucci, the most decorated female HRT of ALL TIME vs Mike Moody is a clear your schedule and watch type of event. Salvucci has quietly slid under the radar this season with a 378 average and 135 hundos. Moody is always a second away from finding his Season 24 form but with Christina’s consistency over the past several seasons she wins this tough matchup and moves on.

Bracket Upsets – #15 Chelsea Glasner def. #2 Ben Fountain

History has shown that Ben is all smoke, no fire. Without an HRT trophy on his resume (4 runner up finishes) some question if Fountain is Skee Hall of Fame material. (nobody questions this.) Think Tony Romo, great regular season player but when the lights go on, he goes dark. (fake news) Chelsea on the other hand is more than a pretty face who sings national anthems. She has been a dominant force this season with 138 hundos (more than Devin), has a 900 to her name and always in the conversation come HRT time. For these reasons, Glasner renames “Ben’s bracket” and sends him into the commentary booth for early retirement. (despite the rampant lying, they’ve at least picked a good match for me to lose)

Bracket Winner – Devin

Devin is one of those guys who quietly goes about his business (unless its fantasy hockey) and is due to break through for his first HRT win. (do we know the same Devin?) A savage up the middle and in the top corners, he has consistently shown that only the best of the best can beat him. With a top heavy bracket including Moody, Salvucci, Chelsea and Ben he has his work cut out for him. On to the Final Four for Devin.

Andrew’s Bracket #3 Seed

Bracket Sleeper – Eric Mendes

When you see Ben and Marissa loading up the same squad usually their first roller will fly under the radar, that is not the case this Skeeson. Eric has consistently gotten better week over week and finished with a 362 average. He seems to thrive under regular season pressure and does a bit of his own trash talk BUT being a disciple of Ben, it is only a matter of time before he buckles under pressure. (Eric is the one that brought me in) I think the tough loss he will receive earlier in the day on Super Saturday will fuel his drive in the HRT tournament. Can he make a run and take out Andrew? Only time will tell.

Bracket Upset – #43 Danielle Gautier def. #22 Lindsay Allen

So many good matchups in this bracket but I am looking forward to watching Danielle and Lindsey battle this out in round one. Lindsay is a notoriously good competitor and has a chalice to her name but having to raise two children (Eric and Anya) must be physically draining. (just has to be.) Gautier has been steady the past few seasons and was quoted saying she can’t wait to play the spoiler role this year in HRT.(Ghost Writer getting on the record quotes! A true journalist!) For these reasons I have Danielle over Lindsay in a game 3 upset.

Potential Match to Watch – #6 Mike Selbovitz vs #11 Steve Robinson

When I look at this bracket the potential matchup that caught my eye was Mike vs Steve in the sweet 16. Some of you may remember Mike, he was once a top roller but since marriage, fatherhood and no longer being a third roller he hasn’t been able to find consistency week in, week out. Mike has blamed his poor average as the result of not being the team captain this season but he is hoping to channel his inner Burgess to break out and get back into an HRT Final. Can he get out of Queen Steph’s shadow and make his own name? Only time will tell … Just two short seasons ago Mike was carried by Salvucci and Justin to beat Steve in a chalice final so the wound is still fresh. I saw the determination in Steve during the week 8 roll so I am almost certain this is an easy sweep in the first two games, onto the Elite 8 for Robinson. (a battle for all the combos!)

Bracket Winner – Steve Robinson

Some people may call this “Steve’s Bracket” not Andrews…If you go by HRT accolades (4 HRT’s) and overlook the chalices Steve is a shoe in for being included on the mount rushmore of Skeeball. First hand, I’ve seen the fire in his eyes each time he has come up short over the past several seasons…. and this year he is out for blood. On to the Final Four for Steve.

Pat’s Bracket #4 Seed

Bracket Sleeper – #20 Jerry Glendye

A wise man once told me to “stay the course”. With Jerry flying high on the weed but under the Skee radar it wouldn’t surprise me if Jerry continued to add to his long resume of Skeeball dominance. Look for Jerry to make a long run or have it ended abruptly in the second round against a 40 streak legend in Christina Snively. (sadly Jerry is flying too high and won’t be joining us)

Bracket Upset – #29 Katie Gaudette def. #4 Pat Bassett

I think it comes as no surprise that Patty Cakes hasn’t been himself this season, between having to run the league in Ben’s absence or extended vacations with Anthony Anderson we just don’t know if Patty will show up, and when he does… which Pat are we getting. Katie has been consistent this year carrying her team to the three seed in regular season and posting her all time high in hundos. We received word that Andrew has her on a strict practice regimen this week leading up to playoffs so expect Katie to come out firing. If 500 Patty doesn’t show up the upset alert is going to be ringing. Katie on to the Sweet 16. (BOOM)

Potential Match to Watch – #12 Marissa vs #21 Robo

Can Marissa be the second female to win the HRT? Looking at the road in front of her though…. Robo, Everett, Patty… Gulp. In the second round I look forward to watching her take on a legend of the HRT. Robo has THREE HRT’s and one chalice, a clear shoe in to the Skee Hall of Fame. Will the southpaw find his form by Saturday? (Robo’s been off this season for whatever reason!) Will Marissa be able to overcome a tough opponent and the bracket of Death to punch her ticket into the final four? Marissa on to the Sweet 16.

Bracket Winner – Everett

We have heard for a long time now that Everett is the Goat of Skeeball, “I have so many HRT’s its not fair”. News flash, you haven’t won since season 20! (don’t remind me about that one) With that said, I think Everett has a serious chip on his shoulder this season… nobody wanted to be his teammate and he was left solo as a “Skee Agent”. No longer living in Dukes shadow collecting quarters out of the pop a shot has cleared up some time for Ev to focus on himself. I think this is the year Everett makes a deep run and 40 rolls the bracket of death to sleep. Everett onto the final four. (this is basically a chalk pick and is sad to see)

-FINAL FOUR-

#7 DEVIN VS #11 STEVE ROBINSON

With ALL top seeds gone I foresee a rematch of Season 15 between Devin and Steve. If anyone caught last weeks 9 PM roll off between the two you can tell tensions are at an all time high and they were rolling like they hated each other. It was getting a bit chippy at times, think Bruins vs Canadiens rivalry. Look for Devin to break all four of Steve’s HRT trophy’s over his knees as he stamps his ticket to the big dance! (that’s just mean) Devin on to the finals

#5 EVERETT VS #9 DAWSON

Old school legend VS Angry Bruce Banner, this one has the makings to produce fireworks and lots of energy. Everett starts out with a flurry of 40s, but Dawson, fueled by his green rage that is the hulk is not willing to live down losing on the big stage back-to-back years. He rides the waves of the Narragansett to an extra-frame victory. Dawson hulk smashes his way into the finals. (Dawson is now intellectual Hulk)

-FINALS-

#9 DAWSON VS #7 DEVIN

THERE WILL BE A NEW FIRST TIME HRT CHAMP! Both have been close, both have almost tasted sweet victory, who is going to get their heart ripped out yet again!?

Gold on the line. Dawson, has more experience in the big moment, 3 runner ups, 3 final fours ….He’s learned from his mistakes. Gansett flows in the streets of Causeway for celebration. (WELL THEN)

HRT CHAMPION- JOHN DAWSON

And there you have it! Will Dawson turn into Stone Cold Steve Austin in celebration or sadness? Will someone else join the HRT ranks or will we get a repeat winner?

ROLLERS! Today has been two months in the making. Time to see if you found that 40 and mastered those hundos to lead to some upsets. A tradition that’s making a return for the big 3 0: A couple of those amongst you decided to take a shot at who’s going to win the whole thing. This used to be something I did a whole bunch and really glad people stepped up to keep it alive. For those that are new to this, it’s all in good, clean fun here. If the writer calls you out, it’s all in good, clean fun! All notes from me while reading this live will be noted (like this.).So without further ado: let’s see what they got!

Play-In Game – #16 Rowdy Rollers vs #17 Team T.A.G.:

Going with the all-rookie team led by Alex to advance. They’ve had a consistent season, and they’ll pull this one out at the end.

Winner – #17 Team T.A.G.

#1 Skeeing is Believing vs #17 Team T.A.G. – Alex, Tom, and Geoff’s reward for winning the play-in? A date with the overall top seed in Ben, Marissa, and Eric. Yikes. T.A.G.’s super brief Cinderella run comes to an end with a swift thumping.

Winner – #1 Skeeing Is Believing

#8 Skeetubbies 2: The Skeeturning vs #9 Nipskee Russells – Two VETERAN teams meet early on Thursday. Sam is coming in off a BIG 412 roll last week, and if he can keep that momentum going it will be just enough to sneak by Jerry, Greek, and Polischoke. Going to be one of the “games of the night” to watch, but Brian, Sam and Liz advance. (Naturally on 4/20, Jerry is going to be a “little busy”. Their sub is still keeping the veteran vibes going though.)

Winner – #8 Skeetubbies 2

#1 Skeeing is Believing vs #8 Skeetubbies 2 – Ben, Marissa, and Eric prove to be too strong and too deep for the Tubbies to overcome. Ben has a chance this skeeson to prove all the doubters wrong and finally win a non-asterisked (pfft, I don’t fully remember winning since we decided to do all the playoffs ON Super Saturday.) chalice that has eluded him for what seems like decades, and he (Marissa, Eric) won’t let them lose (at least not yet). (boo for going chalk.)

Winner to advance to the FINAL FOUR – #1 Skeeing is Believing

Bottom Left Bracket:

#4 DDP vs #13 SkeeMasons – Greg finished just shy of a 300 average, and led a solid squad, but Patty and company will be too much. DDP moves on. (I’m not saying it’ll happen but Daniel & Nic have been improving weekly as rookies. Lane 2 is secretly Pat’s nightmare scenario here, this one may be closer than GW is thinking.)

Winner – #4 DDP

#5 Straight Outta Greatest vs #12 Funskee Roll Medina – If anyone can carry the load and will a team to an upset victory it is Christina, especially if she gets lane 2….but it’s a big ask against a strong, hungry team in Steve, Robo, and Tanner who feel they have unfinished business. (Lane 2 is also a nightmare for S.O.G., but Lane 1 would make this a fun one)

Winner – #5 Straight Outta Greatest

#4 DDP vs #5 Straight Outta Greatest – I think this one comes down to lane draw. If it’s lane 1, give me the ‘upset.’ If it’s lane 2 or 3, my money is on the big boys Pat and Dawson to get it done. Pat is coming off a monster week 8 score of 482 and Dawson has had a 405 average over the second half of the skeeson. Too much power! (Battle is between Dawson & Tanner here. If Jen can go for 400, Straight Outta Greatest returns to Super Saturday.)

Winner to advance to the FINAL FOUR – #4 DDP

Top Right Bracket:

Play-In Game – #15 Chenurp vs #18 Righty, Lefty, LipSKEE – Chelsea leads her two rookskees against Karen, Kim, and Sam. Chelsea had a monster season, especially with hundos, finishing 6th overall! She’s going to be looking to put up big numbers early and often and it’ll be too much to overcome. (Chelsea is dealing with some team issues, she may be out of it and there could be an upset here!)

Winner – #15 Chenurp

#2 Golden Sachems vs #15 Chenurp – the Sachems look to get out of the gates hot and make a deep run. Look for “Lil Bill” Sheehan to try to pick up where he left off last playoffs and come out with a bang.

Winner – #2 Golden Sachems

#7 Last Great American Dynaskee vs #10 Return of the Killer Skeeballers – Another big skeeson from Christine, and with two very capable rollers behind her, they are going to be a tough out. Alex Green put up a 400 in the final week, and he’s going to need a repeat performance if he’s to lead his team to victory. I think Nate and Katie will hold up, but just too much experience from the Dynaskee squad. (The Dynaskee is surprisingly 7th and I blame it on the constant 7 PM rolls. Saving it for the playoffs.)

Winner – #7 Last Great American Dynaskee

#2 Golden Sachems vs #7 Last Great American Dynaskee – This is going to be an old school slugfest. Lots of storylines here….Rob is fresh off a week 8 483 which helped him capture the MVSkee. Mike blew 4 combos on his last ball week 8 to lose combos to Steve by 1. The Sachems are an elite up the middle team, and it’s going to take big hundo games from everyone on Dynaskee to take them out. Easier said than done! (If this goes on Lane 1, upset city)

Winner to advance to the FINAL FOUR – #2 Golden Sachems

Bottom Right Bracket:

Play-In Game – #14 The Iconicskeers vs #19 You Won’t Break My Roll – 2 teams looking to pull an upset in the next round, but who will advance? Look for The Iconicskeers to pull it out, could be a close one though! (This should be a good one!)

#3 AFSkee Richmond vs #14 The Iconicskeers – No, there will be no upset this round. Andrew is just too good. Fresh off a 482 and a million hundos. It’s impossible for them to lose. IMPOSSIBLE (see what I’m trying to do here?!) (Danielle needs to re-discover the hundo to have ANY shot. I also don’t think she can stand being the 2nd best roller in her house now so let’s see if it happens!)

Winner – #3 AFSkee Richmond

#6 Moodskee Blues vs #11 Roll it Like you Stole it – Should be a tight game, but the Blues are HOT. Kyle is peaking at the right time, and they are going to be a dangerous team, especially if they get lane 1 with 2 lefties. (This is Magno disrespect and I won’t stand for it. Moody lives up to his name come playoff time and could give an opening to Cory, Janelle, and Bart)

Winner – #6 Moodskee Blues

#3 AFSkee Richmond vs #6 Moodskee Blues – Ladies and gentlemen, our first BIG upset. (Took them long enough!) I’m all over the Moodshee Blues train to the final four. This is a hungry team, and Devin, Moody, and Kyle will put up just enough to squeak by Andrew and company. Might come down to a last ball….. (Yay for the upset, shocker for you to pick against Andrew who has multiple wins by the last ball.)

Winner to advance to the FINAL FOUR – #6 Moodskee Blues

Final Four:

#1 Skeeing Is Believing vs #4 DDP – The stage is set. Can Ben ACTUALLY get out of the Final Four? History says no(i’ve made multiple finals but sure), but he has two big time rollers behind him to ease the pressure. Granted IF they lose and IF (when) Marissa outscores him he’ll be sleeping in a cardboard box on the floor in the corner of the room like Squeak from Baseketball. Well Marissa, get that cardboard box ready, because sober Ben is not elite Ben. Sober Ben is mortal. (Heavy weighs the commissioner’s crown.) Hard to be nice and lubed up at 10:30 AM but if anyone can find a way it will be Pat and Dawson. BIG advantage. (I’m insulted they don’t think I can get drunk!)

Winner – #4 DDP

#2 Golden Sachems vs #6 Moodskee Blues – This one should be a battle. Lil Bill Sheehan vs Kyle is a matchup the Blues MUST win. There is no room for error there. Both have had low weeks and high. If they do, they can pull the upset. The Sachems are streaky with hundos (except for Rob), and if Kyle and Moody are hot out of the gates, it’s going to be the Sachems singing the Blues! (Kyle’s streaky ways come from trying to play catch up for most of the season, they finally get a shot at finding a rhythm in the playoffs.)

Winner – #6 Moodskee Blues

Championship:

#4 DDP vs #6 Moodskee Blues – I have a feeling the stars are going to align for DDP. Odds are that the finals will be on lane 2 or 3, and that has to be a small advantage for DDP. If Pat, Dawson and Dionne get out in front, you can be sure to hear Dawson’s voice all the way in the South Shore, and that alone would be too much for any team to overcome. DDP takes it all! (Ironically, Pat wants anything but 2 in this matchup. Let this be a Lane 1 title match for the most fun.)

Winner – DDP

There you have it folks. Ghost Writer thinks Dionne will FINALLY win the chalice and carry Pat & Dawson to a title. Will it be “Let’s Go Dionne!” or “Dionne sucks”?!

Did the Ghost Writer underestimate your team? Do you want to be like Michael Jordan and take that personally? Sure hope you do! Go prove them wrong and let’s get some upsets going!
