Firstly, thanks guys for the time taken to review the site. I appreciate the honest and ideas on how to develop the site and will be looking forward to implement them soon.

In 2008 Sketchplanet was on the back-burner for me, I’ve got so many ideas/sites that I felt I needed to work on each one seperately and figure out whether I was going to keep them or disgard them.

Thankfully Sketchplanet is a site I’d love to keep! My passion is art and developing Sketchplanet allows online users to create something quick and simple or small and detailed…which is what the site is all about.

Anyway, head on over to Uxbooth Sketchplanet and I’ll write about more developments on the site later. Keep on drawing!

Developing Sketchplanet Site

Hi guys, just want to hear your feedback as to how to improve the Sketchplanet site…The site has developed behind the scenes with improved flash and sketching tools as well as being more user friendly, but what else could be added??

Korean Language

Sketchplanet is now in Korean! Not sure if it’s relevant and Korean is really hard to execute on the site, but it’s finally there. Let me know if the site should support other languages.

Actually, everything on the site is free. But now as a logged in user, you can create your own Avatar Profile Image.

This can be seen by everyone and is much better than a standard default image or a photo that you need to upload…

Also you can use colours! I know many users complain that there’s a lack of size and colours on the site, so feel free to change your avatar to whatever you want.

Sketchplanet Adverts

Sketchplanet now has adverts - Yay Adverts! Oh, not impressed? Oops! Advertising helps to pay for our server and also fund future developments with the site. That said, the adverts aren’t too bad. They contain Sketch/Drawing related content and all Groups and Tags pages have relevant advertising.

Hi Dave,

- Search feature will be added
- Sketches are made small so they can be both quick and highly detailed.
- You need to register, after registration you can draw.

Hi Christina,

- There was the capability to put your sketches on your own sites via a Javascript widget…I’m working on a better version.

- At the moment you can integrate your sketches as a feed:

Sketchplanet Promotion

Sketchplanet has been around since 2005, but lacked from real promotion.

Today I received an email from “Killer Startups” to point me in the direction of their recent review of Sketchplanet…it’s all pretty positive!

New additions to the site include:

- More SEO friendly, now the site is searchable on Google and page titles reflect the Artist.

- RSS Feed, the site has an RSS feed you can subscribe to, a sitemap.xml and an individual RSS for each Artist

- More secure Registration with Capcha

- All sketches are required to have a Tag and Title, “Untitled” isn’t an acceptable option any more.

Improving Sketchplanet

Improving Sketchplanet? Surely that’s not possible!

I remember comments on the old Sketchplanet Blog, asking for a number of improvements…so I’d like to continue this trend and ask how Sketchplanet could be improved. You can post your answers here or send us a email.

Here are some of the old comments, with my answers below:

When you sketch something with alot of shading, click print then it cuts out half of the shading.
- This is probably down to the anti-atlas function, so I’ll check it out.

Imagine opening up new colours to registered users after say, 10, 20, 30 unique users have commented on their works…
- Yongfook liked this idea also, he expanded on it by creating a profile page and the idea that if you contribute more, more features are opened up to the user…I like this idea also, but would it be a sketch or a painting.

Where’s the random tag gone from the homepage?
- At the moment, we’re keeping the site as it was previously and waiting for user feedback before developing the site.

Can you develop the Profile Page, so you shouldn’t let people put up a pic, but instead make them draw a self-portrait for their profile.
- Great idea!

Where’s the RSS Feeds gone and Syndicate Function for my blog?
- Sit tight…

Can a forum be created?
- I’ll look into it if there’s enough feedback

Could a function show who is online?
- Great idea…

Could my drawing be turned into Wallpaper or Tshirt?
- I don’t think it’s possible since the output of each graphic is a small sized gif…so unless it’s a small t-shirt or small wallpaper, I can’t see it happening.

I believe the site was first made around October 2005, or when the initial move from Yongfook’s Print Club to a dedicated drawing site.

The main change from the two sites is that now, you can only sketch unless you’ve registered.

All that’s required is your:

- Email Address

- Username

- Password
