EXTRACT FROM DOUG COPP'S ARTICLE ON 'THE TRIANGLE OF LIFE'

My name is Doug Copp. I am the Rescue Chief and Disaster Manager of the American Rescue Team International (ARTI ), the world's most experienced rescue team. The information in this article will save lives in an earthquake.

I have crawled inside 875 collapsed buildings, worked with rescue teams from 60 countries, founded rescue teams in several countries, and I am a member of many rescue teams from many countries. I was the United Nations expert in Disaster Mitigation for two years, and have worked at every major disaster in the world since 1985, except for simultaneous disasters.

The first building I ever crawled inside of was a school in Mexico City during the 1985 earthquake. Every child was under its desk. Every child was crushed to the thickness of their bones. They could have survived by lying down next to their desks in the aisles. It was obscene -- unnecessary.

Simply stated, when buildings collapse, the weight of the ceilings falling upon the objects or furniture inside crushes these objects, leaving a space or void next to them - NOT under them. This space is what I call the 'triangle of life'. The larger the object, the stronger, the less it will compact. The less the object compacts, the larger the void, the greater the probability that the person who is using this void for safety will not be injured. The next time you watch collapsed buildings, on television, count the 'triangles' you see formed. They are everywhere. It is the most common shape, you will see, in a collapsed building.

TIPS FOR EARTHQUAKE SAFETY

1) Most everyone who simply 'ducks and covers' when building collapse are crushed to death. People who get under objects, like desks or cars, are crushed.

2) Cats, dogs and babies often naturally curl up in the fetal position. You should too in an earthquake. It is a natural safety/survival instinct. You can survive in a smaller void. Get next to an object, next to a sofa, next to a bed, next to a large bulky object that will compress slightly but leave a void next to it.

3) Wooden buildings are the safest type of construction to be in during an earthquake. Wood is flexible and moves with the force of the earthquake. If the wooden building does collapse, large survival voids are created. Also, the wooden building has less concentrated, crushing weight. Brick buildings will break into individual bricks. Bricks will cause many injuries but less squashed bodies than concrete slabs.

4) If you are in bed during the night and an earthquake occurs, simply roll off the bed. A safe void will exist around the bed. Hotels can achieve a much greater survival rate in earthquakes, simply by posting a sign on the back of the door of every room telling occupants to lie down on the floor, next to the bottom of the bed during an earthquake.

5) If an earthquake happens and you cannot easily escape by getting out the door or window, then lie down and curl up in the fetal position next to a sofa, or large chair.

6) Most everyone who gets under a doorway when buildings collapse is killed. How? If you stand under a doorway and the doorjamb falls forward or backward you will be crushed by the ceiling above. If the door jam falls sideways you will be cut in half by the doorway. In either case, you will be killed!

7) Never go to the stairs. The stairs have a different 'moment of frequency' (they swing separately from the main part of the building). The stairs and remainder of the building continuously bump into each other until structural failure of the stairs takes place. The people who get on stairs before they fail are chopped up by the stair treads - horribly mutilated. Even if the building doesn't collapse, stay away from the stairs. The stairs are a likely part of the building to be damaged. Even if the stairs are not collapsed by the earthquake, they may collapse later when overloaded by fleeing people. They should always be checked for safety, even when the rest of the building is not damaged.

8) Get near the outer walls of buildings or outside of them if possible - It is much better to be near the outside of the building rather than the interior. The farther inside you are from the outside perimeter of the building the greater the probability that your escape route will be blocked.

9) People inside of their vehicles are crushed when the road above falls in an earthquake and crushes their vehicles; which is exactly what happened with the slabs between the decks of the Nimitz Freeway. The victims of the San Francisco earthquake all stayed inside of their vehicles. They were all killed. They could have easily survived by getting out and sitting or lying next to their vehicles. Everyone killed would have survived if they had been able to get out of their cars and sit or lie next to them. All the crushed cars had voids 3 feet high next to them, except for the cars that had columns fall directly across them.

10) I discovered, while crawling inside of collapsed newspaper offices and other offices with a lot of paper, that paper does not compact. Large voids are found surrounding stacks of paper.

There would likely have been 100 percent survivability for people using my method of the 'triangle of life.' This film has been seen by millions of viewers on television in Turkey and the rest of Europe, and it was seen in the USA , Canada and Latin America on the TV program Real TV.

Recycle Vs Reuse

In Simple terms, Recycle refer to the things that cannot be used as such which can be break down and segregated back to raw materials, which can be used to produce the new thing. On other hand, Reuse refers to using the things as such until then its life degrades to unused state or recyclable state.

A4 Paper
When it is double side printed and the printed article is outdated then the paper can be recycled. When it is One side printed, the paper can be used by printing on other side; If it cannot be used as such due to confidentiality or matter of illegal the, Then it can be sheared in half, scrambled and rough bind to use as scribbling pad.

Coffee Cups
When it is public places such as huge mall, paper cups can be used and it can be only recycled after use by proper collection system; When it is private or shared places such as home or office, Coffee mugs can be used which enables us to reuse after wash;

The monarch could have killed him but was moved by Arthur's youth and ideals. So, the monarch offered him his freedom, as long as he could answer a very difficult question. Arthur would have a year to figure out the answer and, if after a year, he still had no answer, he would be put to death.

The question was: *What do women really want? *

Such a question would perplex even the most knowledgeable man. And to young Arthur, it seemed an impossible query. But, since it was better than death, he accepted the monarch's proposition to have an answer by year's end.
He returned to his kingdom and began to poll everyone: the princess, the priests, the wise men, and even the court jester. He spoke with everyone, but no one could give him a satisfactory answer.
Many people advised him to consult the old witch, for only she would have the answer. But the price would be high as the witch was famous throughout the kingdom for the exorbitant prices she charged.

The last day of the year arrived and Arthur had no choice but to talk to the witch. She agreed to answer the question, but first he would have to agree to her price.
The old witch wanted to marry Sir Lancelot, the most noble of the Knights of the Round Table, and Arthur's closest friend! Young Arthur was horrified.
She was hunch-backed and hideous, had only one tooth, smelled like sewage, made obscene noises, etc.
He had never encountered such a repugnant creature in all his life.. He refused to force his friend to marry her and endure such a terrible burden.

But Lancelot, having learnt of the proposal, spoke with Arthur. He said nothing was too big of a sacrifice compared to Arthur's life. And the reservation of the Round Table. Hence, a wedding was proclaimed and the witch answered.

Arthur's question thus: 'What a woman really wants?'

She said, 'A woman wants to be in charge of her own life.'

Everyone in the kingdom instantly knew that the witch had uttered a great truth, and that Arthur's life would be spared. And so it was. The neighboring monarch granted Arthur his freedom. And Lancelot and the witch had a wonderful wedding.

The honeymoon hour approached and, Lancelot, steeling himself for a horrific experience, entered the bedroom. But, what a sight awaited him.
The most beautiful woman he had ever seen was sitting by the bed.

The astounded Lancelot asked what had happened. The beauty replied that since he had been so kind to her when she appeared as a witch, she would henceforth become her horrible and deformed self only half the time, and be the beautiful maiden the other half.

'Which would you prefer?' She asked him. 'Beautiful during the day or at night?'

Lancelot pondered the predicament.

During the day he could have a beautiful woman to show off to his friends, but at night, in the privacy of his castle, an old witch! Or, Would he prefer having a hideous witch during the day?

But by night a beautiful woman for him to enjoy wondrous moments with?

1) There is 'witch' in every woman, no matter how beautiful she is !
2) If you don't let a woman have her own way, things are going to get ugly !

வாரப் பத்திரிக்கை, மாதப் பத்திரிக்கை படிக்கிற பெண்கள் அதிகம். ஆனால் தினப்பத்திரிக்கை படிக்கிற பெண்கள் எத்தனை பேர்? நாட்டு நடப்பு பற்றி எத்தனை பெண்கள் அக்கறை காட்டுகிறார்கள்? மிகவும் யோசிக்க வேண்டிய விஷயம்.

Wonder wheel is one of the Google Result displaying method which is similar to cluster searching technology.

The option “wonder wheel” can be selected from the left panel. It is keyword word drill down options with clustering the keyword to point out the exact keyword we required.

On clicking the each keyword you can get the results aside in right and can browse through the next level by clicking the node in the wheel. In above started from search keyword – search engines – list of search engines – new search engines – best search engines – top ten search engines – altavista -

Though the technology seems to be good to search the related webs through the spidering the cluster,for some keywords it take more time where wonder wheel is just rotating without new level cluster. hope Google will spider fast this experiment feature soon!

Last week, On Googling for adding annotations to a PDF file to communicate comments to my colleagues and reply to there notes, I came across various tools. One of the easiest tools for adding annotations, highlight, Strike out & Sign to PDF is NitroPDF Reader.

The sticky note will show the time of creation and user name who created.

Highlight options not only just highlight the selection background colouring, also cross out and underline options available.

Though Type Text options available it just overwrites the existing area, there is no options of editing the texts in freeware Reader.

Extract Images and Text is one of the good options as in Adobe which make easier to save all the image in the PDF file.

To be eco-friendly, using such a tools make communication easier, quicker i.e., there is no need of hard copies to exchange the thoughts and tedious time to store and retrieve the data.

Stock Manager, application that contains multiple calculator which manipulates the stock brokerage , taxes and charges. Also shows the approximate profit or loss and the net to pay values. It had been programmed in VB.Net. It perquisites are XP or later and .net 4 or later.
Before six months I started trading using IndiaInfoLine (IIFL). To get the net price and profit loss on stock that being trade, each time I turn on calc and check the prices. To avoid tedious process I just want to develop the Stock Calc. After developing it cross accessing various stock trade and storing the calculation were incorporated for easier trading. The following is screen shot of application.

Stored file (Stock Calculator Data File | *.scd) can be directly opened from explorer. Multiple Calculator can be accessed at the same time. Single Stock window manager makes easier the browse through various calculator and System Tray access are the features of the application

ICE - In Case of Emergency

We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends.

If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) Campaign

It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As cell phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name "ICE" ( In Case Of Emergency).

The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number to call. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as "ICE."

For more than one contact name simply enter ICE 1, ICE 2 and ICE 3 etc. A great idea that will make a difference!

Along with various source discussing about the"jury has given its verdict", Save Indian Rupee Symbol also raises RTI that Non-eligible candidate selected.

What ever may be the factor the New Symbol ( ` ) for Indian Rupee will improve the status of the nation and it will prove the uniqueness among Currencies named rupee.

the verdict is either a "not guilty" or a "guilty" and is handed down by the jury

New Font File for INR Symbol

As we all know INR Symbol soon to be in the keyboard, there are many developers release the font file. When i go for search for font file i got the link Rupee Font Version 2.0 - Foradian Technologies. From where we can download the ttf file and by simple copying it to the font folders makes us to use it in text editor. Don't forget to select the embedded the fonts option which available in most of the application which make the symbol to visible to others with whom you shared. To reduce the file simply select the options embed only the characters used options.
In the font file Rupee symbol mapped to ` (accent) key in the keyboard. To Embedded the font to webpage we need Embedded Open Type (eot) field. ttf to eot converter give the eot which you have to upload and add to css.

INR will get new symbol

In the current trend of growing economic and to differentiate the currency from siblings, Indian Government seeks for representation symbol for Indian Rupee (INR) and opened for contest in the February 2009. Among the various design received, the jury team of Indian Government selected and approved a symbol which is unite of Ra(र) and R. (र+R = ) Selection is based on various factors such that the symbol has to be either in the Indian National Language Script or a visual representation but should be applicable to the standard computer keyboard.

Now, India joins the currencies having a identity. In mere future all keyboards will have the symbol. Being the members of Unicode Consortium, It could be to easily include in the Unicode Character Database. Let's wait to get approved by the Unicode Consortium. Though it takes some time to get the symbol under the finger in keyboard, it can be easily scribbled by hand to get in practice.

The symbol will also be included in the Indian Standards, viz. 13194:1991 – Indian Script Code for Information Interchange (ISCII), through an amendment to the existing list by the Bureau of Indian Standards. The ISCII specifies various codes for Indian languages for processing on computers along with the key-board lay outs. - Ibnlive.in.com

The symbol will not be printed or embossed on currency notes or coins, it would be included in the 'Unicode Standard' and major scripts of the world to ensure that it is easily displayed and printed in the electronic and print media. – Economic Times. Udaya Kumar is the man who designs the rupee symbol and become part of India's history.

On other hand, RTI had already exposed that the candidate submitted the symbol Non-eligible candidate for Indian Rupee Symbol Design Competition as he had violated the Indian Rupee Symbol Design competition guidelines.

Offline Mailbox

Though in previous post it had been mentioned offline Google mail one another way to preserve mail in local system and it maintains the Gmail environment. It take up more memory space (nearly twice) when disable and enable the offline once and portability options doesn't exists ie., it stores to google gears folder which in application setting. There are many others application such as Thunderbird, Windows Live Mail, IncredibleMail and many of which I prefer windows live mail. When you configure Gmail account in Windows Live mail it prefers to IMAP by default which take more to sync with online (on my experience) and it is most similar to Gmail offline options, So you just manually configure the settings with the POP3 options of Google account.

Some Basic tips

Recently my friend lose his Google Accounts and in revert he could not recover the same even after all recovery options suggest by google help. The following are only some of the basic ways to secure the account which might prevent the easier hacks.

Regularly sign out your all sessions of account. Click on the details below the Inbox i.e., Last account activity

It will show all recent account session with respective IP address. Click on 'Sign out all other session'

If your account not logged in other place it say 'your account not seem to be open in other location'

Next, Use only HTTPS account to have encrypted access. Go to Settings and Click 'Always use https' in Browser connection.

...Non-secure networks make it easier for someone to impersonate you and gain full access to your Google account, including any sensitive data it may contain like bank statements or online log-in credentials... - Changing the HTTPS setting.
