Now that it’s getting warmer in Denver, a lot of people are working out to get ready for the beach. If you are one of those people looking for ways to get your body ready for the beach, grab your swimsuit for some fun. That’s right! You can have fun in the pool and get your daily exercise. Try some of these exercises you can do while enjoying the pool in your Denver community.

Toning Arms: Stand with the feet apart, arms extended straight in front of you holding a bal. Breathing rhythmically push the ball under the water, and swing it into a figure-of-right patter through the water. Feel the varying resistance on the arms and upper body. Move in as smooth a rhythm as you can make sure not to strain your shoulders or back. Try maintaining a sturdy balance and repeat 10 times.

Side Stretch: Stand sideways to the pool wall holding onto the edge with arm fully extended, and feet flat on the pool floor. Inhale as you extend the outside arm overhead. Exhale as you lean hips away from poolside. Do 10 times on each side.

Total Body Stretch: Facing the side of the pool, grip on to the edge with your hands. Bend your knees and press your feet against the poolside as you inhale. While exhaling, move hips back. Take care not to lock your knees or elbows or strain your back. Repeat 10 times.

These exercises can make working out fun and you won’t even break a sweat.

Tips to Staying Cool in Denver without Using A/C

You can cool down by simply eating something to cool your body down. Check out other ways to stay cool without blasting the A/C.

The weather can get a little hectic with warm afternoons, cool evenings and chances of rain here and there, but we can easily assume that we are going to have some pretty hot days ahead of us. I know that many of you will start adjusting the temperatures in your Denver apartment, but before you do, check out these tips to staying cool without using the A/C.

Run cold water over your wrists for 10 seconds on each hand. This will reduce your temperature for roughly an hour.

Cover Up: Covering up may actually keep your cooler, especially if the heat is low in humidity. By protecting your skin from the sun beating down, you’ll also shade your skin. Be sure your clothing is made of natural fabrics and loose-fitting.

Stock your freezer with flavored ice treats. Freeze a bag of chopped fruit such as watermelon, pineapple or lemons. Cooling down can be a tasty experience too!

Sit still. Do not try to fan yourself because trying to move while feeling hot can make you feel hotter. Simply rest until the evening.

Sit in the shade. Find a shaded area and set up a water misting system that connects to an ordinary garden hose that can be found at home improvement stores. Sit there and let the mist cool you off.

These tips can help you stay cool without adjusting your thermostat, so give them a try.

Jabo’s BBQ is also widely regarded as the best BBQ in the city. Come in to Jabo Lawson’s meat factory, complete with a brand new cooker that can BBQ seven hundred pounds of meat at once. The best item on the menu is the pork ribs, slathered in fat and tangy BBQ sauce and meat extremely tender.

How to Properly Preserve Your Favorite Fruits and Vegetables

You can preserve your favorite fruits and vegetables throughout the season. Check out these tips!

One of the great things about spring other than the beautiful flowers is the opening of the farmers market in Denver. The Metro Denver Farmers Market is opening the first weekend of May (May 5-6) and weekday markets in mid June, so I know many of you are anxious to get your hands on the freshest fruits and vegetables. Many of the fruits and vegetables are seasonal and our taste buds aren’t, so we have found some tips to keep your favorite fruits and vegetables throughout the season.

Only store fully mature, healthy vegetables. Any bruised or immature vegetables should be eaten fresh or preserved by other means.

Clean of soil and allow the outside of vegetables to dry before freezing.

Keep a few inches on stem on winter squash and also cut the green tops of root crops to an inch or so.

Freeze food immediately after packaging.

Keep freezer temperature at 0 degrees F. Or lower. You can set your freezer control for -10 degrees F. the day before freezing, to speed the process.

Don’t try to pack your freezer with unfrozen produce. This will only lower the temperature in the freezer and lengthen the time needed for the produce to chill.

Denver is going to blossom this May and it’s not because you can finally enjoy the pool in your Denver apartment. There are several events and festivals that will be hosted throughout the city that you won’t want to miss. Get your pen and calendar out because the month of May is going to be filled with loads of fun events. Check out these upcoming events in Denver.

Cinco de Mayo Fest is a celebration of the Latin American culture that will have fun arts and crafts, great music, and plenty of delicious food to try. This year, the festival will be at the Denver Civic Center Park May 5-6 10 am-8 pm.
Five Points Jazz Festival is going to bring beautiful music to Welton Street in Five Points on May 19^th. Over 100 musicians will perform on 6 stages for the 9^th annual music festival, and there will be other activities you and your friends can enjoy beginning at noon.
Downtown Denver Arts Festival is a fine arts and crafts festival that will showcase the art from national and regional artists. This free art event will be hosted during Memorial Day weekend (May 25-28), so come out and check out what art you can add to your collection.
Denver Day of Rock is going to have a line of rock artists to come out to perform at this music festival to benefit Food Bank of the Rockies. All you need to bring are cans of non-perishable food to enjoy the artists performing.

Mark these fun events on your calendar for the month of May. This spring, don’t stay in your Denver apartment waiting for fun to come to you. Go out and enjoy the what the city is offering this spring, and come out to enjoy these events.

Plan a staycation just as you would a normal vacation and it can be just as fun!

Nowadays, everything is getting pretty expensive and it’s causing many of you to rearrange your plans you make every year like vacations. Many of you have worked hard all year and looking forward to using your vacation time to get out of Denver. Denver is a beautiful city, so instead of trying to stretch your money for a vacation, stay in Denver for a staycation. A staycation will be less strenuous on your budget and a lot of fun. Check out these tips to plan a fun staycation in Denver.

Try to put yourself in tourists’ shoes and view your city as a visitor might see it. Hit up local attractions, people watch, take in the architecture, duck into bookstores without a time limit, etc.

Bring your camera! You wouldn’t leave it at home while on a typical vacation, would you? Allowing yourself to take pictures freely may help you find a new appreciation for your city.

You may consider checking in to a local hotel for a night or two, especially if you’re taking a lengthy staycation. Hotels usually have cheaper rooms on weeknights, so take advantage of your weekday freedom and get a room that fits your budget.

It will be all too tempting to use your time off for taking care of chores and running errands. Use the week before your staycation starts to handle your to-do list.

Budget for your staycation as you would any other vacation. Then, put a little time into researching when Summer festivals take place and make a list of the activities you want to do during your staycation. Purchase any tickets you might need and make any necessary reservations in advance.
