Skylar Grey hit the red carpet at the 2012 Grammy Awards held at The Staples Center in LA on Sunday (February 12).

Her track "I Need a Doctor" with Dr. Dre and Eminem was nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.

Later she was spotted at VEVO's I'm With the Band post-GRAMMYs party in West Hollywood.

Building a monster - Skylar Grey is about to freaking rise -

Skylar Grey - singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer.

You may not know the name, but surely heard her unbelievable soft and haunting voice as she was feautered on the biggest hits of nowadays. Skylar’s showed her extraordinary writing and singing skills in different spectrum of hits like Eminem's "Love The Way You Lie", Diddy Dirty Money’s "Coming Home", T.I.'s "Castle Walls", Dr. Dre's "I Need a Doctor", Lupe Fiasco's "Words I Never Said" and Kaskade's "Room For Happiness". It is probably one of the best things in her extraordinary voice that it can work magically with every genre. ”Because my voice doesn't have a specific genre to it, it can be put on a lot of different genres." The success of a hit song undoubtedly depends on crafting a memorable hook, and Skylar Grey's voice, which has proven to transcend genres, has been at the heart of them.

But fans know she’s been in the music industry for a really long time. Skylar Grey is a new name and persona in music, until recently she's been Holly Brook. "Coming from a very small town, I always had dreams that were considered grandiose: I used to pound away at the piano and sing my heart out, imagining I was performing at the GRAMMYs." Music has been in her blood as she was born into a very musical family. "I started performing at 6 and I fell in love with it." Grey performed professionally as a child in a folk duo with her mother called Generations. They independently produced three albums. "It gave me an advantage, I think, as an artist to have that under my belt — three albums by the time I was 15."

"Ever since I was 6 years old, I've done everything I can to build a career in music. Impossible was a word that never existed in my vocabulary." She moved to L.A. when she was 17, got a record deal at 19. "I had some really close encounters with my dreams coming true and success with Fort Minor's 'Where'd You Go' in 2006." She put out her own record in the same year but "it didn't do anything due to a lot of different reasons. Things fell apart and then for a couple of years I was unable to legally release music because I was stuck on the label, so I couldn't make a living and was broke." She left L.A. and was taking a step away from the industry and moved to the woods of Oregon as part of a singer/songwriter retreat where she lived in a cabin relying on her basic survival skills to survive. She went up there feeling disappointed and wondering if she made the right career choices. "I was trying to find out who I was in the world because I felt very lost," Skylar said of her former life.

After going through that journey and finding her independence, she named herself Skylar Grey who is the superhero version of herself. "It was a really empowering to realize that I could be control of my own life." She explained that "Grey is my favorite colour, it represents the unknowns in life. I dive into the unknown because I feel like that’s where all your possibilities come from." Skylar was added as a tribute to grey skies because "I'm the most creative when it's rainy, stormy." Prior to this, she has appeared on albums by other artists, including - just to name a few - Brie Larson's Finally Out of P.E., Fort Minor's The Rising Tied, Apathy’s Wanna Struggle, Duncan Sheik's Whisper House, Jensen Reed's Forget About The Cameras. She also released her O'Dark: Thirty EP in 2010.

Then hidden treasures were born in the woods in that time period. Love The Way You Lie was a new starting point for her as it crushed the world with 9.3 million copies sold worldwide and brought her nominations for the Grammy Awards 2011 in 5 categories. "I wrote it when I was living alone in a cabin because I had gotten sent a beat from Alex Da Kid, the producer, and basically that turned my entire life around. After soul-searching in the woods, I realized I had grown into a completely different person. I was stronger than ever before and was prepared to deal with anything that was thrown at me. The minute I found out Eminem was going to put it on his album my life became surreal. The magnitude of the song shows me that the world is hungry for emotionally driven music. I'm excited to be a part of bringing passion and vulnerability back into pop music, which I think has been lacking in recent years."

Skylar Grey's been busy this year: she introduced herself to the world with a thrilling performance at the Grammys, performed a solo set at Lollapalooza in August, performed in front of the Dalai Lama and she went on a European tour with Bruno Mars this fall. After a year with massive success, Skylar Grey, one of the most buzzed about names in music, is ready to step out on her own and release Invinsible, her first album as Skylar Grey.

Her highly-anticipated album is called Invinsible, which was Marilyn Manson's idea to have it spelled with an 's'. "I wanted to represent in the title the transition from feeling invisible to becoming invincible, which is the theme of the record. Invisible is how I felt and started the story when I moved up to the woods. Nobody cared what I was doing, no matter how hard I tried, it seemed like nobody knew this." Her album shows her transformation becoming Skylar Grey from Holly Brook. "I came out of that whole experience with this new found strength and I made me feel invincible, the whole theme of the album tells that story."

The songs on the new album have similar instrumentation including the piano, drums, bass and guitar, but they appear much stronger than in her old music. They are much more powerful then they used to be. The album's going to include very different genres from rock (Weirdo, Final Warning), roots of folk (Tower), pop (Invisible) to hip-hop beats (Dance Without You). "For a pop record it's so spiritual and diverse. One of the songs that tells my story all in one song is called "Building a Monster." The first single is the really emotional "Invisible", which is a song that a lot of people can relate to because "everybody goes through periods of time in their life when they don’t feel like anybody's recognizing whatever they’re doing." She also has a haunting collaboration with Marilyn Manson in the song called "Can't Haunt Me", which is about zombies.

Besides the album, Skylar is also going to release a three-song EP in January, called The Buried Sessions of Skylar Grey, which includes the original demo of "Love The Way You Lie" and her own versions of Diddy-Dirty Money's "Coming Home" and Lupe Fiasco's "Words I Never Said." What a way to get sucked back into the industry, Skylar! She continues to stun the world with every release, with pure and emotionally driven art. The world can’t wait to hear the album!
