Hello Planet Arch Linux !

I am Roozbeh Shafiee, the Persian Arch Linux Community Maintainer from Esfahan-Iran. In cyber space, my friends and coworkers call me Rosha. Here is my home directory and you can find my brainstorms and wrtings about daily open source experiences in my persian/english blogs. My job and activies are around linux system administration and Python programming.

Ronak is Next in Chakra

Probably you know Chakra Project ! the one of most popular linux distros based on Arch Linux which come with latest KDE desktop. anyway… (more informations)

after more than 1 year, after Neda artwork set, in next release of chakra (will released 12 february 2012) you can see a big change in artwork section. our new artwork set called Ronak (a kurdish name for girls that means “Light”) which includes wallpaper, Plasma Theme, KDM, Ksplash. best news in this release is we have 2 version for Ronak Artwork, a Light version that comes with colorful artwork set and a Dark version for users who love dark desktop that the dark one is default after installation and also users can change that to light theme with accessible tools in “System Settings”.

Ronak is in Testing repository! you can install and use it before Chakra Archimedes (2012.2) release and report probably bugs.

In Artwork section of Chakra now we have 2 artist and 1 maintainer (me). special thanks to my best friend “Shahrzad” who design both of wallpapers in dark and light version and “David” who design Plasma Theme for Ronak. and it’s my proud to introduce Chakra Artwork Team with these guys. im glad to work with this team and we promise to you and users that we will be more active in next releases

P.S : We, me and Shahrzad present this package to all users who love Chakra and we present it to our people in Iran that love the world and wish the peace for all around the world…

Rekonqism Movement

Probably you know Rekonq web browser ! the new browser for KDE SC ! recently i was thinking about more introducing of this browser to other guys in around the world or at least other users of gnu/linux and KDE SC, like firefox in earlier versions….

last night i found a free time and i designed these logo and banner for putting in weblogs/websites for supporting rekonq and introduce to other users… also I please rekonq core developer, "Andrea Diamantini" to publish an announcement in rekonq web site and introduce this banners and weblogs….

in next time and free time, I will design more and more banners/logos for rekonq !

Tehran Ubuntu Party (Lucid Lynx)

maybe it’s too late but yesterday (15th July) was Iran-Tehran Ubuntu (lucid lynx) party and me & Mehrdad Momeny (mtux – developer of choqok and blogilo) were in this party as previous kubuntu users. this party managed and produced by my dear friend , Mehdi Hassanpour (the iranian Ubuntu LOCO team maintainer) . also in this party me and mehrdad had presentation about Kubuntu/KDE new features and choqok and blogilo development way. in the end of this, we had a nice after party with our near friends until night….

Chakra like a wheel in Ksplash theme

in this post and this post , i wrote that im working on chakra project beta 1 artwork which called NEDA ! already its wallpaper and kdm theme designed and finally yesterday and last night i finished ksplash theme , chakra alpha 5 ksplash is based on a theme in kde-look with oxygen-icons like kde4 default kdm that i change the wallpaper ! and now in this theme we have our exclusive images that designed by me.

in chakra philosophy “Chakra is a concept referring to wheel-like vortices which, according to traditional Indian medicine” . in this theme i tryed to design “chakra wheel like loading” and until releasing beta 1 I will try to improve it. you can see this theme is this video clip in YouTube (or bottom of this post) or download it

Chakra-Micro Preview Released

as you know , recenly new version of chakra , chakra panora (alpha5) released and now after 2 weeks after releasing panora , its developers announced the release of Chakra-Micro (just preview release). this version is compatible with netbooks and small devices and made for tiny computers using the Plasma Netbook as default user shell fitting perfectly on a 1 GB USB-Stick (download here)

Features in this new release:

- Kernel 2.6.33 series

- Xorg-Server 1.7.6

- Catalyst-10.4 – yep, we have it again

- NVidia-195 and NVidia legancy series

- hardware-detection updated

- Go-Openoffice 3.2

- DigiKam, gwenview and kipi-plugins to manage your digital cameras and photos

- A wide selection of KDE software

so if you are in our test squad team or one of chakra user, you can test this release wherever possible, and most of all, on real hardware. Report bugs, or even better send us patches and share your ideas. The place where all of this happens is our Bugtracker, please be sure to register on it. Chakra Panora (Alpha5) released

After lots of testing and rebuilds we are finally there. Panora left the building and is ready to get a new home on your boxes. Special thanks goes out to our bug-squad for helping us in this crazy adventure. Without you guys we couldn’t fix all the bugs, testing all the new features we added.

We focused our efforts on two aspects mainly:

Tribe our installer, now includes an easy & advanced mode to partition the target, also the installation speed has been much approved and supports lower screen resolutions (starting with 800×600).

The usability of the Chakra LiveCDs we added support for some important features:

- print, and configure printers

- complete management of optic drives, now you can extract sound from CD/DVD’s and write medias with k3b and virtually mount iso images

- drop-down konsole with Yakuake

- management of dial-up modems and broadband USB 3g/HSDPA with knetworkmanager & modemmanager

- a lot of new languages were added to the boot menu, to automatically configure your keyboard and locale settings in live mode

For our beginners Anke Boersma wrote a nice beginners guide including how to setup Chakra besides Windows.

All in all it was a hell of a ride getting this release out. Manuel Tortosa, thx for keeping up with me. We made a nice team here. Also thx to Roozbeh Shafiee for your awesome designs you did and do for our project.

NEDA KDM Theme

Happy new year (Norooz) to all of my friend in Iran gnu/linux community .
these days we are working hard on chakra project next release… unfortunately we have no time for working on NEDA artwork and we forced to use Galaxair artwork for chakra alpha 5 that comes in 31 march 2010 . this planning is good for me for working more on NEDA theme and it will be ready for Chakra Beta 1 . and now I designed NEDA KDM theme and it’s installed on my box (it’s not mockup) .

this theme is exclusive for chakra project and after beta 1 release , you can download it from kde-look for other distros…

also im working on new design of Tribe user interface (chakra graphical installer) . this design is planed for chakra alpha 5 . in next blog post i published its screenshots…

NEDA for Next Release of Chakra

probably you know chakra project ! a distrolet based on archlinux , after about 2 mounth working on artwork of chakra (of course not non-stop) today i finished it and it is ready to use for next release of chakra project… NEDA theme is contain Wallpaper , KDM , KSplash , Plasma theme , also im working on plymouth theme for more integration of all part of chakra together.

plasma theme is new in chakra and in previous releases we used default kde plasma theme . this theme is based on Dark Air and we changed it a bit , like white font instead black font and some widgets replaced and etc…

this is a preview of chakra with NEDA theme and artwork and more screenshots will publish here (in this blog) later , today is Norooz (persian new year) and im going to vacation
