Here is an alarm clock that comes to mind perhaps when I was still a tot. But now it seems that the clock has been redesigned and re-issued, something that will certainly come in handy by your bedside or for people who want to make sure that they are woken up even in the outdoors. The clock offers a simple yet functional design although the redesigned face seems to be a far cry from the first ones that came out. A case of over-redesign and decision to turn to cheap Chinese manufacturing? All that aside, the clock does offer the simplest way to put it to use. So if you are looking for a simple alarm clock (assuming you don’t care much about design), the Braun BNC400 Alarm Clock Lightning should be a safe choice although you may likely go for something with better designs. But seeing the Slice of Pizza Sleeping Bag seems to be made to make you hungrier than sleepier. Although it is just a slice of pizza design, who knows how this sleeping aid can spur up anyone’s appetite, both young and old. It comes complete with topping (which are actually serve as neat alternative to pillows in case you don’t have one to go) but more importantly looks to be made to offer the necessary snuggling people would want to have when using it indoors or outdoors. Dorothy Bruhling, 75, had been having rough spells with OSA which may grow serious for some people if they are not careful. But thanks to some medical referrals, Dorothy was able to meet up with Dr. Robert DeFatta, an otolaryngologist who eventually suggested a surgical approach with the aid of the da Vinci robot to remove a discovered obstructive tissue that was interfering with her breathing. After keeping Dorothy for two nights for observation purposes, she shared that after the surgery that she had not slept that good for two nights in a row. “All patients after they heal feel so much better,” said DeFatta, who has performed more than 40 base of tongue resections. Bruhling was the first in Wisconsin, he added. And all that may be satisfied by the Jolly Jumper Deluxe Sleep Rite Infant Sleep Positioner, something that costs around $18 over at Amazon.com. However, while this sleep positioned does seem comfortable thanks to the fabrics and foam construction that make it up, it would be advisable for folks to still keep an eye on the child. Babies have their share of having limited movement and lacking in strength when they start tossing and turning. And for some cases, that may lead to suffocation if they are left unattended.
At the rate that the weather changes these days, there is no denying that the need for a reliable blanket will be a critical need. And to add some new features to the common blankets would certainly be neat, something that the Intelligent Blanket brings as designed by Helena Loermans. Ideal for places with extreme cold climates, these blankets are hand-woven and avoid heat accumulation by directing moisture outwards while also providing the necessary warmth during cold weather. Babies are bound to be the great beneficiaries from these lush blankets, perhaps leading to better sleeping to which babies are known to be delicate for.

Going over some blogs, I found this curious post over at Tech Crunch. Presumably it seems to be something that was intended to be a joke, considering that the Tech Crunch HQ claims that sleep is not among the things that are in mind when working over there. However, this brings us to think, sleep is indeed essential and although some may deny it, a few minutes of nap time does help in the productivity area, something shared by one of the commenters over there. Everything started from a simple email with NapQuest on the subject. The whole thing seems to be an excerpt from special rooms designed for some people who work over 8 hours a day to take some nap or so. While some may find it hilarious, on the health aspect, the request does seem reasonable. Either that or go home early. Then again, that would mean more pressure at work or allowing the company operations to suffer due to lack of work done for the day.
Bed sheets and sets would normally be a great way to aid in one’s sleeping endeavours but the Never Sleep Alone Bed Set may not necessarily do that. In fact, this bed set seems to be unadvisable for the kids who want to sleep soundly at night, no thanks to its creepy design which may lead them to sleeping somewhere else. Anyway, the Never Sleep Alone Bed set offers an uncanny and weird design, featuring printed Zombie arms which may bring trauma to anyone afraid of the undead. On the other hand, for the people who live in the extremes and odd scenarios, a night light may eventually help negate such negative vibes. The Never Sleep Alone Bed Set retails for about $138.55 over at Etsy. Weird but certain to be a hit with the ones who want to sleep on the wild side with some scary twists. These are the Light Up Moonlight Pillows, something that should come in handy for people afraid of the dark or the ones wanting a handy glow to guide them just in case they are the ones who habitually get up at night. The pillow renders an illuminating and colourful spectrum, somewhat like a lunar rainbow which should all the more contribute to your sleeping spells. The colors change in a fluid motion, similar to that of how it happens inside lava lamps. This furry pillow is like a hybrid between a teddybear and nightlight.

It is powered by a battery pack and turns on when tapped.

Here is something that should get you up from bed in a more subtle manner. Using an old tradition of balancing with water, Veri Wiedermann of Austria offers the Dreamtime alarm clock that should wake you up in the gentlest manner you can even imagine. The water-powered alarm clock uses chimes which should be a great way to get you out of bed, allowing you to wake up from deep slumber without the ranting and irritating way the alarm clocks normally do. All users have to do is pour water into one glass bowl where it will in turn drip silently from one bowl to another. Time is measured organically. As the top bowl gets lighter, it rises and finally lets a hammer fall. Bouncing between the two bowls, the alarm lets out a smooth, singing chime that will put any clock radio to shame. This time we have the Batman Night Lights, something that should technically keep the kids or even the grownups have a feeling of security when darkness falls. The Batman nigh light features the familiar logo of the caped crusader that is encased in a round cylindrical casing. It comes with an automatic sensor that allows the night light to activate once the room gets dark and without much effort of turning it on or off as people would have to do.
You may have probably heard or read somewhere that lack of sleep is likely to be tied up with obesity and today we find an interesting highlight that may sort of explain the whole issue. Ordinarily, lack of sleep may make you think you are forced to eat less with the notion that you would prefer to sleep than eat. But an experiment proved otherwise. Apparently the trick was done using some photos of food on 12 normally weighted men. They did not sleep and after some scans showed a high level of activity that is associated with hunger. They were reportedly hungrier even without sleep compared to the ones who got some nap. The heightened desire to eat is what the scientists call “Hedonic Stimulus Processing”. So if you want some good advice, try to get some sleep and forget that notion of sleeping over eating when needed. It may make a difference in calories, especially if you are trying to lose weight. Children anywhere in the world are given a free blanket each time a blanket is bought through Happy Blankie. The cause was founded way back in 2008 by a 7 year old child named David Holdridge in an effort to entice donations for needy kids. The whole thing is not limited to blankets though. It also includes stuffed toys too. All this from a seven year old…Bravo!
Don’t look now but it seems that another area of concern tied up with the problem of sleep apnea seems to be that of deafness or hearing loss. The discovery was courtesy of a study from Japan, wherein sudden deafness was more likely traced to that of a previous diagnosis of sleep apnea. Hence, it is advisable to have yourself checked for sleep apnea just in case you incur such sudden hearing losses. The bad part about it is on determining if sleep apnea treatment can also address the deafness issue. It may be possible that sleep apnea, which is known to increase the buildup of plaque in blood vessels, could affect vessels in areas of the brain that control hearing, or vessels that feed the nerves responsible for hearing. But it looks like the study needs more evidence to support the claim. Just the same, it would be best to go to a specialist to determine if deafness and sleep apnea are indeed tied up.
Most people nowadays are busy trying to burn those excess calories solicited from the just concluded Holidays and while many feel that exercise and cutting down the food intake is all that it takes to do so, hold on a second. While controlling food intake and exercise may do that, do not forget the most important factor of all – SLEEP. Studies have shown that people would need 7.5 to 8.5 hours of sleep to truly reap the benefits of dieting. Studies have demonstrated that lack of sleep leads to an increase in the hormone ghrelin (which tells the body to eat) and a decrease in the hormone leptin (which tells your body to stop eating). Paired with a reliable bed and doing away with the vices like TV, do not overlook the value of sleeping properly. It may play a big difference when it comes to dieting and your overall health of course.
Athletes need to ensure that they are healthy and fully charged most of the time and sleep is a critical factor on being able to do so. Apparently some key things have been itemized by Yahoo Sports, most of which seem to be basic but otherwise important if any athlete would want to churn out 100% positive performance any day. Among the ways mentioned include the following: 1. Go to bed and wake up early 2. Take daily power naps 3. Do light stretches before going to bed 4. Cut down on Caffeine While these factors were reportedly aimed for athletes, normal people would be wise to follow them as well. As we see a lot of people trying to resolve their varied sleep disorder problems, these additional facts should as well be useful. Just make sure you don’t overdo the nap part ok?
Every now and then, people who may have experienced something bad or perhaps are in a bad mood would be normally told to sleep on it. But according to a study, it seems that such situations do have certain degrees. When an experience becomes truly tragic or traumatic, it is best to try and stay awake for the time being since sleeping on it may lock bad memories and in general, be emotionally harmful. The folks over at the University of Massachusetts did such an experiment on 100 healthy adults. They were shown unsettling images and scenes initially which they rated. After about 12 hours, they them again, with about half of the group sleeping during the break while the other half did not. The who stayed awake for 12 hours had a weaker emotional response to the unsettling images the second time around, suggesting sleep serves to preserve and even amplify negative emotions. Their memories were also weaker than those of their well-rested counterparts, as they struggled to remember whether they had seen the images before. The clock features a Jeeves-like voice which will wake you up at your desired time, something that should add color and class for people seeking loyalty and respect in a manner of speaking. The clock comes with over 120 sound voices from Stephen Fry, witty phrases that should be odd and respectable enough to get anyone out of bed in a jiffy. It comes in a male and female version, the latter being the Madam Alarm Clock. The clocks are available from ThinkGeek for about $70.
For the people who find themselves wanting to get some shuteye in odd areas, the Hi-Macs Sleepbox may be something bizarre and helpful you may come across with. The Sleepbox was designed by Casper Lohner, a unique piece of furniture that comes in an odd shape that will initially put you in doubt as far as the comfortable sleeping spells you may want to endure in. The Sleepbox seems to be designed for public places. It is made of MDF fabric that is structured into an odd shape with the help of a vacuum membrane. As you will depict from the image above, comfort is pretty far off for people who want to get sensible sleep. But then again do remember that the Sleepbox was made to satisfy temporary sleeping spells for the people who want to catch some shuteye, a good idea considering that you don’t want to get caught sleeping for longer periods especially when you see one of these things in public. But with some tweaks and turns, pillows may yet bring the level of sleeping with pillows up a notch such as this one made by Innvo Labs. The company has come up with a new prototype pillow that works for people who sleep in different angles. The trick was made possible through the inflating and deflating air chambers of the self adjusting robot pillow, something that should make it better for an individual to sleep. Called the Intellipillow, it also comes with a pump that can be placed a couple of feet away from people to ensure no disturbance of whatsoever. The intelliPillow is however still in the works but word has it that it will cost around $250 to $300, unofficially. And while the price tag of $199 seems a bit steep, wait until you check out the features it comes with which should make it a whole lot reasonable. This includes two sensors that will monitor breathing and movement which should help log sleep cycles for people who want to monitor their sleep. The monitoring is done through a non-contact sensor which aside from monitoring will also determine when users are asleep to wake up people at the right time. Other features include a fading playlist, multiple alarm chime settings and an app that will monitor a person’s sleep patterns. With sounds from the radio, iPod playlists, or even gentle and calming sounds are all available. Ideally, these would be great on your office table or perhaps by your bedside, a reference device that should keep you up to date and on your feet when needed. But rather than get one of each, here is a quirky looking concept clock and calendar, one that should save on space and be useful to anyone who wants to keep track of time and dates. This is called the Calenclock, something from designer Ken Lo. The concept piece was designed for Antalis and mixes and matches 12 months of the year as well as the 12 hours you would find on a clock. Packaged and neat, this should be something handy as well to bring along, especially for the constant travelling individuals.
These are the Hello Kitty White Plush Slippers, another Hello Kitty collectible for the fans of the Hello Kitty fame. The slippers stand to keep your feet warm, featuring a cute little white lace to go with the trademark red bow and yellow nose. They are made from 100% polyester and should be cozy enough for people in places with the coldest climates.

The Hello Kitty White Plush Slippers are available from Hot Topic for about $19.50.

Rather than the annoying chimes, this alarm clock chirps to wake you up, also coming with a featured vibrating pillow case which should really get you up on the right side of bed. The clock comes in a sleek design and a curved tray which should be dandy to place small items. Available over at Quirky for around $18, the said clip stops vibrating when you insert it back in its base but the nice thing about the setup is that if you fail to do so within a certain time, an actual audible alarm will sound as backup.
Still wondering why a good night’s sleep makes a big difference? Well, perhaps this keynote from Jessa Gamble can somehow brief you on the reason why. Health is an immediate answer for this of course but if you want a more straight-to-the-point explanation, one of the things that will be affected is your body clock. Sharing her research with some folks, Jessa bares how quality rest time is a key element to productivity and more importantly one’s health. Jessa bares that the sleeping patterns of people living in environments without any artificial light at all experience true wakefulness during non-resting hours due to the high quality of sleep they get in the evening. Hence, Jessa Gamble appeals to her audience and concerned readers that in a time of 24-hour business days, longer work periods and night shifts, we should somehow offset the damaging effects these instances would have on our body.
The Holidays or the season for drinking and feasting may be over but this doesn’t mean the drivers who may eventually find themselves a bit sleepy on the roads are over. And to welcome the new year, here is something neat from Japanese company Juki, something you can mount on the driver’s seat whose intent is to alarm the driver in cases where he is about to doze off. The solution is called the Anti-Sleep Driver Seat Sheet or the Sleep Buster. It does the trick by measuring the signals from the heart and aorta through a built-in sensor. A piece of software called “Human Tachometer” then visualizes the condition of the driver on a controller. The Sleep Buster is set to retail next month, priced at about US$2,000 in Japan. This includes the controller, sheet and the power module. No word yet of a U.S. release. While they may not seem important for most, preferring to have dull and simple covers as long as their pillows are comfy and cozy, add some spice to your sleeping ordeal with these Magazine Cover Pillows. Other than offering you a different design when you lay your head on the pillow, it comes with a minimal twist, allowing you to place your head in the middle and somehow make you look as if you are on the magazine cover. So if you wanted to appear in Playboy or Time, here is your chance! Regardless, the design seems to be something cool to consider.
Drivers and some graveyard shift workers have been pinpointed as that of having sleep apnea problems but it seems you can add one more occupation to that list. Based on a study, it seems that the cops or the police are among the ones suffering from sleep apnea too. Just like round the clock workers, police personnel have their share of working on shifts as well. The study consisted of police officers participating in either an online or an on-site screening (n = 4,957) and monthly follow-up surveys (n = 3,545 officers) between July 2005 and December 2007 The study revealed that about 40.4% of the participating cops were found positive for the said sleep disorder. 33.6% of that were found positive for obstructive sleep apnea and 6.5% suffering from insomnia. Apparently the shifting issue can be singled out as the culprit. A change in the regular body clock does have dire effects and from the looks of it, even the cops are not spared. Let us hope though that the margin for error does not get imperiled by all of this too.
A person’s sleeping period may be the best time to nourish a person’s hair or skin, something that perhaps only women can easily relate too. Although we often wonder how females are able to maintain their look, it seems that the secret is all done when they are resting their laurels. And to make it all easier, perhaps this Night Steamer Beauty Sleep device will all the more make sure that their skin and hair get the proper care while they are getting their beauty rest. The Panasonic EH-SA41 Night Steamer Beauty Sleep is simply placed next to the bed which goes to work by applying the different moisturizing techniques that go to work while you are asleep. The night steamer runs quietly and can hold up to 90 ml of water. It emits 2.5ml of steam per minute and runs on AC100V. The Panasonic EH-SA41 Night Steamer Beauty Sleep is available over at the Japan Trend Shop for about $436.
When it comes to sleeping on the side of bed, it seems that there is more than choosing which side to sleep on when couples are concerned. While most partners have their own setup on which side to sleep on, studies show that sleeping on the left side account for a happy and stress-free life. Apparently a study showed that people sleeping on the left side responded that they were calmer than others who found themselves in crisis. Those sleeping on the bed’s right side more often tend to wake up in a bad mood, the survey found, adding that people who prefer the left side of the bed tend to have more confidence and are more likely to be in permanent employment than those preferring the right side. The survey was done by the Premier Inn. Taking into account the study, would you now change the side where you would be sleeping (assuming you are on the right side of course)?
For some folks, turning off the light helps in putting their toddlers to sleep. But the problem perhaps lies in instances where the baby would cry in the dark, sometimes even when the parents are in deep trance. However thanks to technology, here is something that may help. This is the Voice Activated Crib Light with Womb Sounds, an advanced gadget which you can easily attach to your baby’s crib and at the same time soothe or attend to your child temporarily. Three colored lights turn on when your baby cries, beginning a cycle that follows a certain calming pattern. It also features some recorded womb sounds that can lull your child back to sleep and a 10 minute slight/sound period to bring them back to dreamland. The device requires 4 AA batteries to run and is available from Thinkgeek for about $15.
