Speaking to a crowd of nearly 8,000 Muslims at the Islamic Society of North America’s annual convention in Washington D.C., Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren called on Muslims and Christians to form an interfaith coalition to combat prejudice and stereotypes. While Fourth of July revelers staked out seats to watch fireworks at the nearby Capitol Building, Warren addressed convention-goers – some of them from Orange County Muslim student associations – about the need for mutual respect.

“Tolerance is not enough,” Warren said. “People don’t want to be tolerated, they want to be respected, they want to be listened to. They want to be valued.” Armed with four ideas for action, Warren called on Muslims and Christians to work together to create respect, restore civility to civilization, promote peace and tackle major world problems. “I am not interested in interfaith dialogue, I am interested in interfaith projects,” Warren said. “Talk is very cheap.”…

Charismatic preacher Paula White is stepping in as senior pastor of the Florida megachurch that she and her now ex-husband founded nearly two decades ago.  On Sunday, White was expected to officially mark the start of a new chapter in the history of Without Walls International Church, which once attracted 23,000 worshippers and was heralded as one of the nation’s fastest-growing congregations.

“It will be my first Sunday to officially preach and to minister to you as the mandate and the mantle that I’ve received for the great assignment for this city, for this ministry, and for our lives collectively as your new senior pastor,” White reported in an eBlast to the Tampa-based congregation.

Since her divorce from Bishop Randy White in 2007, White has been ministering in New York, Texas, and abroad, making only periodic visits to Without Walls…

And the parade of pretending pastors in their circus churches continues.

The third chapter of John records Jesus’ encounter with Nicodemus who by himself came to Jesus at night (John 3:1-14). John is clear on this. Two times he records that “a man” came to Jesus—one man, not two (John 3:1, 4). Furthermore, Jesus addresses Nicodemus in the singular personal pronoun “you” (Greek, soi; John 3:3, 5, 7, 11). Furthermore, the conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus sees them mutually interacting as they use the abstract, but personal singular pronoun “he”—“when he is old . . . He cannot enter . . . he cannot enter . . .” (John 3:4, 5). In reading this passage, the only possible understanding is that salvation is individual.

So the bishop-ess’ remarks stand blatantly opposed to both the word and example of Jesus (John 3:7). It’s not whether we should believe we’re individually saved; it’s rather that we must be individually saved. As we are physically and singularly born by human parentage into this world below, so we must be born spiritually and singularly by the Spirit from above. God’s life comes from outside us that He may reign inside us. Salvation is one on One. Salvation is one by one.

I knew a man from India who got hold of a New Testament, was converted and started to preach, but he had no background at all. That is, he started from scratch. He did not have a Greek Orthodox or Roman Catholic or Protestant background. He just started from the beginning. He didn’t know anything about churches. He testified, “What I did when I had a problem in the church was to go straight to the New Testament and settle it. I let the New Testament tell me what I was to do.” The result was that God greatly blessed him and his work in the land of India.

This is what I would like to see in our church–the New Testament order of letting Scripture decide matters. When it comes to a question–any question–what does the Word of God say? All belief and practices should be tested by the Word; no copying unscriptural church methods. We should let the Word of God decide. RRR140.
