What Slikstr Does…Version 2.0!

We still get a lot of questions about what we actually do here at Slikstr.
Our explanation can be found in many places, from our blogs to our wiki to our
videos, but, still people seem to have some difficulty when first approached
by the idea that is Slikstr.

We say that we’re, “…a user-created company…” that’s goal is to integrate user
desires directly into the business plan. However, by looking at our user
response, it seems that this seemingly obvious phrase is troublesome to those
not well-versed in the 2.0 world.

We’re bombarded with the grand question, “So…what DOES Slikstr do?” and
with other ones, like, “…so how do you guys make money?” and “…is this
actually real?”

But questions like, “what does something do…” and things like money and
reality are all such 1.0 concepts. If one asks the same about another 2.0
company, say…Google, the answers are essentially the same as Slikstr’s. Let’s
compare side by side:

See? At its heart, Slikstr is essentially the same as Google or various other
2.0 companies except for one important thing: with Google and YouTube and the
others, the user has no say in what the company actually does. True, they may
accept user submissions or use user reported data, but the decision-making
lies solely in the hands of an old-world style corporate board. Slikstr, on
the other hand, makes the users themselves the board.

Perhaps the difficulty with understanding what Slikstr does is not so much
that we’ve inadequately described it and definitely not because of anyone
elses’ fault, but perhaps because Slikstr is TOO new. In fact,
I’ve seen a couple of message groups that have described Slikstr as the
“…first web 3.0 company…” And I don’t necessarily think that’s incorrect.
Does Slikstr not make sense to you? If not, perhaps it’s because you just
aren’t used to the idea yet—used to the future, so to speak. Just stay
tuned though, because the future is now!
