Hi Scampus, thanks for the comment it is great to see that reproductions of the panoramas are now touring to the public libraries with the digital story presented by Simon Farley, Queensland Memory Librarian and featuring the preservation of the panoramas.

You can view the tour itinerary and virtual exhibition at this link http://www.slq.qld.gov.au/whats-on/events/travel on the State Library of QLD website.

I just wanted to say, it's great to see that some of these panoramas are now touring around Queensland as part of the 'Panoramic Queensland' touring exhibition. Keep up the good work!

I'm amazed that they could produce panorama photos back in the early 1900's a really big difference to what it looks now.

Panorama photographs are basically wide screen views of photographs. That is a awesome photo for how old it is (1926).

It is good to see that the Libreary is putting in a lot of effort on its 150th birthday to show off, what we Queenslands are like and what our forfathers have built for us, I hope the next generations will be glad that the State Library has kept these pictures for them to read.

Hi Shannon,

Thanks for your posting. The outcomes of the exhibition were to be many, some of which incorporated the broad vision of the State Library which is to lead and capture the preservation of our heritage and to deliver services and programs to improve access to, interpretation of, and engagement with Queensland memory. The exhibition was also a great opportunity to profile John Oxley Library and its collections in its 75th year, as well as support the celebrations happening around Queensland for our 150th birthday. We hope we have done this through the exhibition for a many Queenslanders, both visitors to the library as well as those who visit the virtual exhibition.

The response to the exhibition so far has been overwhelmingly positive. Schools in particular have really embraced the exhibition. Detailed teachers’ notes linking to specific curriculum outcomes are available (http://www.slq.qld.gov.au/whats-on/exhibit/online/panoramic_qld) Very positive feedback from education professionals and media has also been received, particularly regarding the exhibition’s ability to engage school and teachers with local and state history in an immediate and visually exciting manner. Indeed, the Courier Mail’s Headstart section devoted a full, double page spread to ‘Panoramic Queensland’.

As regards your question about funding, although 'Panoramic Queensland was developed by the Library as a Sesquicentenary project it has not received Q150 funding. If you are interested an extensive list of projects funded through the program can be found on the Q150 website at http://www.q150.qld.gov.au/Funding/CommunityFundingProgram.aspx.

Thanks for your posting – all comments are much appreciated!

I visited the exhibition at the State Library gallery and actually thought it was very good. The school students who were there at the time were fascinated.
The maps exhibition was also well researched and presented. Great collections!

This exhibition was lacking in any real intention. What was the educational outcome intended by the curator? The photographs on display were interesting solely for the fact that they are panoramic. However similar photographs have been extensively published by Royal Historical Society of Queensland and others. What was the cost of this exhibition and how much of the funding was provided by the Q150 Community Funding Program? If someone could answer these question that would be great.
