Fuerza Bruta, an off-broadway show in Union Square is basically an hour-long “performance rave”. Water and energetic explosions are main themes of the show which features a large ensemble cast running on treadmills while being sprayed with water while moving to the beat of drum and bass and electronic music. One of the best parts of the show is when a massive (probably) forty by forty foot plexiglass platform is suspended over the audience at varying heights (between one foot to fifteen feet) and filled with water. The lady cast members then run, play, dive and slam into in the transparent, water filled stage. The experience of being under is both exciting and frightening! Today’s photo is from that particular portion of the show.

Taken the same day as “Waking Hours” for national bike to work day: Grand street in brooklyn (east of the Brooklyn Queens Expressway) is vibrant with a mixture of Puerto Rican, Mexican, Japanese and American storefronts and restaurants. This children’s dress shop is one of several you’ll easily spot while walking down the street.

New York City’s street art helps define what makes NYC NYC. From random tagging, to public murals by pop-artists (Shepard Fairey, Banksy?), to the once amazing and legal, but now defunct 5 Pointz graffiti public art space, this city presents a wealth of art in accessible, non-sterile spaces. Mr. Brainwash, one such street artist, started plastering New York City with Warhol’esque pop-art reproductions in 2008 and one  stroll home after work, I walked to the east village to take some shots.

Though not a passion of mine, I think Macro (close-up) photography is fascinating. Proper equipment will empower the photographer to take the most highly detailed shots of the smallest objects! This is a simple macro of a Pumpkin Muffin from Whole Foods, one of my favorite snacks while cycling around the city. I took the photo while at Wave Hill Gardens, a botanical center located in the Bronx’s beautiful Riverdale neighborhood.

My friends and I made the trek to the Rockaways for a late summer excursion, just as Hurricane Bill was churning the waters off the coast. The water was closed to swimming, but was beautifully dramatic and violent as surfers enjoyed the 4-5 foot waves. We left the sand and walked down the boardwalk to the famous Rockaway Taco stand and witnessed a small storm surge as the sky grew dark and the atmosphere misty.

Lofted above Manhattan’s West Side, High Line Park is the city’s newest and most glamorous public green space. I took this photo the day I received my new dSLR, Pentax’s K-7 in the mail also exploring the park for the first time since it opened in Spring 2009. The park was converted from abandoned elevated freight railroad that stretches from midtown down to the meatpacking district. It’s certainly a marvel and the crown jewel of the city’s ambitious attempts to accommodate as much public space as possible.

The park offers great views of the Hudson river, the Chelsea neighborhood and the sometimes infamous New York Standard hotel.

Last year’s Pillow fight took place at Wall Street as a protest(?) about the ongoing financial/bank crisis going on at the time. As usual thousands of pillow fighters came out to celebrate protest, in fact, so many fighters showed up, the cops had to shut down the main fighting area, forcing splinter fights to form at other streets.

By the way, if you’re in New York City this weekend, a few friends and I are showing our work at Historical/Novelty, a photo exhibit for Art in Bushwick’s Bushwick Open Studios Festival. You can see “Follow the Explosion” (with other photos on slyseekr) as part of a 60 piece collection in a semi-abandoned warehouse in Brooklyn. So artsy, eh?!

Meet Nannie, a supermodel of a cat. She came to live with me few years back when an old friend was faced with giving her up to a shelter and has been a ball of personality pitter-pattering around my apartment ever since. While she’s definitely got LOLcat qualities, she’d never let the camera catch her in such a moment!

Following up with yesterday’s photo, Green Day did not keep us waiting for long and infused the concert hall with unparalleled energy. This shot was taken within the first minute of a 2 hour set that included 2 encores. Stay tuned for more photos from this evening, I amassed a great collection of photographs from this night alone!

My friend Yawen and I got tickets to see Green Day debut their last album “21st Century Breakdown” at Webster Hall, a relatively intimate venue for such a popular band. I, of course, brought my camera and began snapping away and captured Yawen waiting patiently for the show, a pre-cursor to the mayhem that was about to ensue!
