August 27, Centennial, CO -- Sandy Elliot and Alexandra Lee of Metro Volunteers met with smArts! board members John Phillips, Gordon Brown, and Pam Roth O'Mara to discuss needs for additional volunteers and volunteer board members. smArts! seeks volunteers of all ages with a passion for the arts to help the organization in its mission to create and maintain a cultural arts district in South Metro Denver. Can a price tag be put on culture? In many ways, it probably shouldn’t, as ethnic and social customs, styles of dress and history all leave indelible marks on the world, and putting a dollar amount next to them cheapens the cultural experience for all. In the case of the Asia Pacific Cultural Center (APCC) in Tacoma, however, there was once such a price tag on its work: $1.3 million.

August 16, Koelbel Library -- During the first of four meetings designed to bring Centennial citizens out to voice their opinions about the City's future, attendees showed interest in more cultural and theater arts in Centennial, and venues for producing those programs.

August 14, Centennial, CO -- smArts! has apppointed Gordon Brown, Clyde Gilley, and Pam Roth O'Mara to the positions of Volunteer Director, Treasurer, and Business/Government Outreach Director, respectively. Brown and Gilley have volunteered with the smArts! initiative for more than 7 years. O'Mara a recent transplant to Colorado joined the volunteer organization in May. Other board members include John Phillips, Madilyn Adkins, Kim Larson-Cooney, and Lillian Macca.

August 8, The Egg & I on Yosemite -- Country Dinner Playhouse alumni and smArts! board members talked about the disappointment in the demise of the theater. They agreed to work together to build a district to house infrastructure for the performing and visual arts in South Metro.

June 26, Littleton -- SMARTS! annual auction and wine tasting, this year at Hudson Gardens in Littleton, was a great success with the highest winning bid for an item at $900 and the best food from regional purveyors.
