Yikes. What is a young go-getter to do? One of the first things that I would recommend is picking up a copy of “Young Guns: The Fearless Entrepreneur’s Guide to Chasing Your Dreams and Breaking out on Your Own”, by Robert Tuchman. I have read this book and found it to be very motivational, in fact I would have loved to have received this advice 15 years ago, when I was still trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life.

I may no longer be a “spring chicken” but I do consider myself to be a “young gun” (I feel younger now than I did 10 years ago!), and as an entrepreneur in my own right I agree with what Tuchman is getting at with this book. Instead of a bunch of useless cliches, Tuchman gets right to the point: you can start a business, you can make your dreams come true. With some excellent examples and anecdotes he underscores the most important part of creating a business - focus on customer service first.

I really like the chapter featuring the Seven Priorities for the First Year, a short list of basic practices that any business would do well to refresh their memory on. I believe that these seven priorities are so fundamental that they deserve to have a place in your thinking well after the first year. For example, the concept of “Building a culture of action & enthusiasm” is absolutely vital. Maintaining this culture, however, will take work, discipline, and responsible leadership but the return on this investment is incalculable. (You can read more of my thoughts on the Seven Priorities here.)

Other chapters focus on salesmanship, marketing (”Talk to absolutely everyone about what you do“), accounting, and more. In fact, this is one of the very few ‘business books’ that I have read that had a chapter devoted to creating and maintaining relationships with the vendors that support your business. This is fantastic advice, speaking from my own experience. In a ‘former life’ I built a million-dollar-plus sales position based on word-of-mouth and references from vendors that knew me and my work. This kind of insight is gold.

You can read more about this book, and purchase it online via the Young Business Executives site (link).

You probably want people to read your stuff!

Dave Olson wrote a really interesting list of ways you can write an outstanding post, the idea started from Liz at Successful-Blog, and she usually gets an incredible response from her readers, so she must be doing something right hehe, so i thought i could join in this “bloggy tag” :)

So how do you write an outstanding blog post?

We all have our own little ways of doing things (and please share your own “ways” with us!), so there’s no bulletproof way to write a good (or oustanding) post. But, me and Shane (zoomstart) agree that “yeah baby yeah” moments are awesome! (*Shane, i can’t believe the most relevant way i came up with to link to your post, was to use “yeah baby yeah” haha)

Brainstorming - Creative Zen

I must have at least 30 or 40 unpublished blog posts waiting in my wordpress admin, not because i don’t want to publish them, but because they’re not finished, they’re “raw” ideas. Best way to find ideas, i think, is brainstorming. Take a notepad or something, and just start writing (more infos about that in my creative zen post). Say you write for about half-an-hour, what are the chances you’ll come up with something interesting? What if you write for 2 hours? Ok, you get the idea, get your thoughts on paper, and then on to step 2.

Do Some Basic Research

Ok, so you have lots of material, and many things to write about, now what? Do some simple research on google with keywords related to what you wanna write. Another good tool is technorati (or even your own blogroll, or feed reader). Find other blog posts that are relevant to what you’re about to publish, and link to some of them with the right anchor text! It’s a win-win kinda thing! If you’re not too familiar with the topic of your next article, you might want to consider not writing it, or at least get to know the subject better, and do extensive research if needed.

Break It Down Into Manageable Pieces

You have your main post idea, you did some research, now you’re ready to write! Good! Take your “main topic”, and try to come up with some nice (sub)headlines. It’ll be easier for you to write the post, and it’ll be easier for your readers. People love lists, and organized posts. So give people just that! Break your post into sections. And then write one paragraph at a time.

Typos - Correct Those Little Mistakes

Typos and mistakes are things you want to avoid, so read your post 2 or 3 times before hitting the publish button. Sure you’ll find many typos and mispells on SWR, it’s normal, we’re human. But there’s a huge difference between “your” and “you’re”. So make sure you correct those before publishing your post.

Ask For Opinions

This is an “optional” step, but when in doubt, it’s better to have someone else read your post before you publish it. Especially if you’re about to publish something that is somewhat controversial, or could be considered as bashing. Better be safe than sorry. A fresh perspective is always good, and sometimes you just can’t be objective, since you’re the one who wrote the thing. Ask a friend, a co-worker, another blogger to read your post before you publish it.

You Know You Want To

Hit Publish! As simple as that, just hit that little “publish button” there, and voila! You’re done. Now wait for people to start commenting (if your blog doesn’t receive a lot of comments, i’d suggest you invite your readers to comment by asking ‘em questions) :)

Of course, those steps won’t help, if you don’t have passion or purpose. Like Dave wrote: live, feel, think, write, edit. I try to write like i talk, and I find it helps me a lot. In the end, a lot of people read a blog because of whos behind it.

So, how do YOU write an outstanding blog post? :)
Yeah Baby Yeah!

How effective is your website at achieving the goals you have for your business?

If you do not know the answer, it may be because you have not set your goals properly. Do you know what the purpose of your site is? What are the benefits for you and your business?

.
Lets take a look at these questions, and potential answers.

Your website should position you as an expert in your field. Perception and reputation are everything to your potential customers and clients. Having a website that effectively conveys that expertise to your visitors improves your visiblity in the marketspace, your credibility as a business-person, and begins to build trust in your products/services.

Your website is a starting-point for the identity of your brand. It is a starting point because it is impossible to control all aspects of your brand identity anymore. Your customers have blogs, forums, and Twitter now - where they can and will discuss your product’s price and quality, your customer service interactions, even your advertising strategies.

Your website expands your marketspace beyond yesterday’s geographical boundaries. Depending on the products and services that you offer (shipping may be a consideration) you can now offer the services of your business to a global audience, not just the people within a few minutes’ drive.

Your website is a tool for expanding your list of potential clients. Due to the expanded nature of the marketspace and the rapidly growing number of people who do their research online before making a purchase. Having an e-mail capture/site registration application on your site can help you to build a list of self-selected potential customers.

Your website is a venue for providing value to your market before you ever make a sale. E-books, white papers, product reviews, service explanations - all of these marketing tools can be made available throught your site. For free, or for the price of an e-mail registration. When your visitors see your site (and your business) as value-added then doing business with you is an opportunity, not a risk.

Does your website do these things? If not, do you need help putting them in place? Let us know how we can help.

You start setting goals (from the inside out, of course) and you put a couple of lifelong wishes in action (your novel, your business) and what happens? You fire up the wrath of your inner critic, right? The limiting beliefs. The harpies. You finally manage to put in motion the the fabulous business idea you’ve been snarking about for months, and those pesky harpies jump up on your shoulder and tell you whatta snerdling you are. The voices, the reasons, the excuses. Same same.

The size of the limiting belief always seems to correspond to the size of the goal.

Funny thing is, it’s hard-wired, evolutionary stuff, but the only place limiting beliefs are true is in your head. I did some poking around to get some definitions for the fun of it, and discovered something wonderfully ironic in support of that theory. First the definitions:

Harpy: [from Greek mythology] a rapacious monster described as having a woman’s head and body and a bird’s wings and claws, or depicted as a bird of prey with a woman’s head.

Gremlin: [probably from Goblin, originated around WWII] an imaginary or mischievous sprite regarded as responsible for an unexplained problem or fault, esp. machinery, computers and the like.

Saboteur: [from lotsa places] Personification of an imaginary thing that deliberately destroys, damages and obstructs everything you ever wanted to accomplish.

Notice that none of the definitions point to reality. A time in our history doesn’t exist where gremlins, goblins, sprites, harpies and the like roamed the planet in search of, well, you. It’s all myth. Story. Fairytales. Folklore. We were just putting a face, a character, to our fears.

In truth, we sculpt our limiting beliefs from past threats, wounds, unmet needs and expectations, etc., to protect ourselves from stepping into harm’s way again. And yet, past wounds are, well, in the past. They aren’t happening today, but the harpies would have you think otherwise.

So—how the heck do you deal with limiting beliefs?

Listen to them. Limiting beliefs tell you where to look, where your next right action is. And when you set a goal like “double consulting income by December 2009,” the voice on your shoulder is wired to say, “You’ll never do it…it’s the economy, stupid…get a real job.”

My spin? Since the voice on your shoulder tells you where to look, and you can pretty much guarantee that one of your best choices is to do the EXACT opposite. You have to train the beast to behave, and the more you train, the more you’ll accomplish, and the more joy and balance you will find. Otherwise, the harpy on your shoulder will turn into a chip on your shoulder.

Building a niche website or blog or starting your own company can be really profitable.

Using good marketing techniques, your niche website can attract highly targeted visitors/customers that are more likely to buy, and that website could potentially get a greater number of page views, which can be a good thing. But what do you consider when building your new website (or starting your new business)?

Do you focus on a particular niche, or do you think it’s better to target a large audience and talk/work about/on many different topics/subjects within many different categories? Or stick to one topic and work on that single one instead?

Another good example is network marketing. You could join 4 or 5 different mlm companies.. but you probably want to focus on just one. So you can put in more efforts on that one, instead of trying to manage all those other “businesses” all at once.

Of course you don’t want to put all your eggs in the same basket, but at the same time, do you think it’s a good idea to focus on a single specific niche?

When building your new website or starting your new business, try to focus on things that are related to each other, if you’re starting your own jewelry site or company, stick with things that are related to that! But you can also consider giving “jewelry repair” lessons, or evaluation services or other stuff related to your primary business.

Stick to things that are related to your field of expertise! But don’t focus on just that to bring you money every month.. what if that “primary” business ends up not working out? Or on the other hand, if you stick to just one topic/subject/business… do you have enough knowledge to make it grow, and make it really profitable?

Oh, sure…..we realize how much CPU it takes to solve a complex math problem, or to reorganize a file cabinet. But do you really understand how much CPU it takes to do things that we don’t even realize?

I’m talking things like:

Worry

Fear

Hesitation

Let’s talk today about worrying, shall we?

It can take ENORMOUS amount of CPU to worry. When you worry, it preoccupies the mind from doing something else. It also effects the body, which in turn makes the CPU work overtime to correct malfunctions in the body. Now I know it’s not realistic to say “Don’t Worry (Be Happy…oh wait, wrong song), but it is realistic to say that when you realize that you are worrying, share that feeling with someone else. Like most things, when you share that feeling with someone else, it takes some of the power away from it and helps to dissipate it.

When bringing this worry up to someone else, you can also get their take on the situation, and they just may have a solution to the issue! Friends are great for sharing things like this, heck it’s even beneficial to hop onto your favorite social networking site and throw the question out to the ethers! I’ve done that quite a few times and the responses that come back either solve the issue, or spur a thought process within me that will allow me to solve it.

So instead of worrying, take some Next Action towards your personal productivity and get some assistance with whatever worries you. You’ll be delightfully surprised at what comes your way!

There is a way to do it, and a simple one at that -

Optimize your website for content by inserting the right keyword phrases in the right places.

Once you’ve done this - along with a few other important search engine optimization (SEO) actions - your website’s position on Google and other search engines will rise. More specifically, it will appear higher in the rankings for searches conducted on the very search terms you’re looking for. This means -

More qualified traffic to your site

More opportunities to convert visitors into customers

Less qualified traffic to competitive sites

Fewer opportunities for competitors to convert visitors into customers

Can you afford to be invisible on Google?

No, you can’t. In a weak economy such as we are experiencing now, market share is the name of the game. It’s essential to get your name in front of prospects and existing customers as much as possible - otherwise, they will forget you or never discover you when they need your products or services. A high profile on Google can make the difference between an empty pipeline of leads and a steady stream of new opportunities.

Opportunity knocks. It’s name is Keyword Optimized Web Content.

Amazingly - shockingly - your competitors are very likely ignoring or fumbling keyword optimization on their websites. The three most important reasons that I see for this (day in and day out) -

Many firms see content development as a painful chore, but are unable or unwilling to hire professional copywriters.

While the concept of optimization is simple, the execution is not so simple. The rules of online search are evolving rapidly and it takes effort to stay current with best practices.

Many firms grossly underestimate or completely dismiss the importance of having a strong presence on search engines.

In less than six months time, one of my clients was able to go from total invisibility (it was a startup) to a first or second page position on Google for five or six of their primary keyword phrases. In another case, we were able to get on page one in Google for three of our target terms within only a few weeks. That result was exceptional, but given time, proper execution, and a sustained effort, content optimization will get results. And by the way, when I say results, I mean more than just high ranking - I mean leads and orders. As important as optimized content is, we can’t forget the ultimate goal is more business.

Optimize your website for content by inserting the right keyword phrases in the right places.
Once you’ve done this - along with a few other important search engine optimization (SEO) actions - your website’s position on Google and other search engines will rise. More specifically, it will appear higher in the rankings for ...
Post from: Smart Wealthy Rich
Lists are extremely popular among bloggers, not only because of the links you can get from being on those lists, but also because you can discover new sites you would’ve never heard of otherwise. Many of the blogs on this list I read regularly, but I found a lot of new blogs also.

I’m a sucker for everything that has to do with personal development. So I had to join this project :)

I’m not a big fan of lists though, in fact I asked to have my blogs removed from a couple of lists that were floating around the blogosphere, but this is a list I’m particularily proud to be on.

My blogs are not necessarily about personal development, but I guess they fit on the list.

This was started by Priscilla Palmer, and already the list is quite long. Feel free to add to the list if you feel your blog or a blog you know would fit on there.

I’m not a big fan of lists though, in fact I asked to have my blogs ...
Post from: Smart Wealthy Rich
Ok, first of all, here’s the Wikipedia definition of a RSS Feed (will open in a new window). An Rss feed is usually indicated by this standard icon:

Now here’s the brief definition (for those of you who want to know right aways instead of reading the whole wikipedia document):

Users of RSS content use programs called feed ‘readers’ or ‘aggregators’: the user ’subscribes’ to a feed by supplying to their reader a link to the feed; the reader can then check the user’s subscribed feeds to see if any of those feeds have new content since the last time it checked, and if so, retrieve that content and present it to the user.

RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication“, it is a format used to “syndicate” the content of a weblog (blog), news site and other types of Web 2.0 content. For example, take smartwealthyrich.com, there is content on this website, articles, posts, pages.. all of the content can be “syndicated” and appear on other websites, using a RSS feed, which looks like this: http://smartwealthyrich.com/feed/

You can browse the net, find websites that offers a RSS feed, and subscribe to that feed, and then read their news using a RSS reader, here’s a short list of rss feed readers (i like netvibes a lot):

Netvibes
Feedburner
Bloglines
Feedlounge
Newsgator
Yahoo Reader
Google Reader

Of course, there is a lot more rss feed readers out there than just the ones that are on this list (you can also check technorati, for example).

What is really cool about RSS is that you can subscribe to as many feeds as you want, and read the new post all on one site instead of having to go and visit tens or hundreds of blogs/sites, so it’s really convenient! Of course it’s always a good idea to visit the blogs anyway and read the comments, and of course participate in the discussions, that’s what makes blogs interesting! Participate, share, learn, syndicate! :)

Hope this was helpful!

And here’s my RSS Feed link (add this to your news/feed reader),

Thanx!
