more environmental projection

Here's a timelapse of the projected set creations for "Broadway's Back! 3" a musical dinner theatre revue that we put on this summer. My wife and I created these all in Final Cut Pro and Photoshop and projected across three HD projectors across the front of the entire room, masking the center splats. It was huge! Some scenes were full HD video on loops, some were static.

Thanks Jon for taking this timelapse video for me. Note: some scenes were changed in the final version, this video was taken tech rehearsal week and many tweaks were made to some of the files.

environment projection test

digital sets for our show "Broadway's Back!". super stoked on how the
whole show turned out. (this is before our center rosebrand splats were hung so it's actually projecting on a blue wall in the middle)

inspiration

I had the priveledge to run a camera at Catalyst West Coast 2011 backstage livestream this year and got to meet and see and be surrounded by so many leaders with so much ambition, drive, and inspiration in 3 days. Here's a clip with Jack Dorsey, the co-founder and chairman of Twitter. This guy started a worldwide social revolution and still continues to innovate, now with mobile payments that just work. Amazing!

For my fellow geek brethren reading this... I was using a Sony CineAlta EX3 they rented with a smallHD monitor i brought along. The signal flow through the switchers was in SD however.

environmental set projection for Easter

i created and remixed/mashed-up about 40 projected mattes and videos (with the help of Adam, thanks dude!) and a synchronized video to the lyrics of Indescribable for The Grove's Easter production. This video shows a locked-off wide shot at front-of-house and condenses the 1 hour 30 minute stageplay and message from our pastor into 3 minutes... 8,000 people saw this show that Easter weekend and I'm sure some people's eyes were opened to how the bible isn't just a collection of random stories and boring history but an actual weaving of one great story that is still continuing now. amazing!

geek specs on lower projector blend: three-projector blend onto rosebrand stretchy splats, powered by a mac mini running (i don't recommend a mac mini, it has trouble running high bitrate video, since we're running HD onto a triplehead output, but it does do the job even though it's dual cores were maxed)

March 19 "Supermoon"

Here's a composite of two images of the March 19 "Supermoon" taken from my backyard. The clouds were covering the moon the entire night, and I found one opportunity to finally see it. The clouds were partially covering the moon in one shot, so i decided to long exposure one shot at just over half a second exposure. The other shoot is just the moon at 1/125 shutter, f/11, ISO 800 @ 300mm on a crop body (the Canon t2i) for an effective 480mm. After some old fashioned Photoshoppin', this is what i got. All of this added in with the city's light and smog pollution!

The March 19 "Supermoon" is the closest the full moon has been to the Earth in 18 years. Source: National Georgraphic

catalyst west coast '11 iphoneography

Had a great time (while seemingly acquiring 12 hours of sleep in 72 hours) running some camera tech at the backstage stream at Catalyst in Irvine, CA. Also had some moments to enjoy some of the other happenings... i can't help taking out my phone to take pictures. It's a bad habit that i won't quit... and until i get a better phone the resolution will leave much to be desired! (to think the iPhone 3G used to be AWESOME)

At NAMM, sound control is enforced and dealt with swiftly. Don't even dare to pass their SPL threshold, or the SOUND CONTROL police will find you. I caught an altercation in progress.

Here's a quick vid i took at NAMM '11 of a multi-touch hands-on synthesizer table. All kinds of analog functions are available with the cubes which interact with each other. The table senses the pattern on the cube or filter puck.
