An Italy-based blog recently reveals that Apple is well on its way in purchasing Redmatica, an Italian software development entity which develops software bits inclined for music editing.

Italy’s antitrust regulator, AGCOM, backs the blog’s report via its recently published bulletin, which details and indicates Apple’s purchase intentions.

Based in Correggio, Redmatica is defined as a “start up” company, and has compiled a number of programs for music editing, including AutoSample, ProManager, GBSammpleManager and Keymap Pro.

The company is based in a small town located within the Emilia-Romagna areas in Italy, and has developed for-Mac operating system apps, with compatibility features with Apple’s GarageBand app, Kontakt 3, Kontakt 3, and ESX24.

If Redmatica really is now owned by Apple (or is well on its way into becoming an Apple asset), the acquisition would most likely beef up Apple’s GarageBand app, along with Redmatica’s seamless integration into Apple’s Logic Pro team.

Being a consumer-inclined app, GarageBand is one of Apple’s more popular apps, with versions for Mac computer systems and portable iOS devices.

Regarding the cost of Redmatica’s purchase, analysis and reports tell that it couldn’t have hurt Apple much in terms of expenditures. With Redmatica’s revenue figures pegged to be no higher than €100,000 (annually) and with income figures set at €26,000, if Apple did or is buying Redmatica, it’d have been/be a non-costly purchase.

With more than $100 billion stockpiled cash assets, Apple is well within the position to embark on new acquisitions, geared to strengthen its offered software and hardware highlight offering to the public.

If it is true that Redmatica is now Apple’s own, one can’t help but wonder what Apple’s intentions are in beefing up its music editing software inclinations.

In the beginning, the iPhone was only available for one carrier: ATT. After their contract expired many of the major carriers started making iPhones available to their network. However, not all carriers went this route; pay as you go services almost exclusively sold Android devices. Cricket just announced that it was going to start offering contract free, pay as you go plans for iPhone customers. There’s just one catch though and that is price.

Cricket is going to be the first wireless carrier to offer the iPhone using pay as you go plans. Previously only Android phones such as the Samsung galaxy S advance were used for prepaid plans (click here for more Androids). However, like many good things in life there’s a catch: price. The 16GB 4s will run you $499, while the 8GB iPhone 4 will cost you $399. This is pretty typical of prepaid services. Even though there’s a high upfront cost, it might save you quite a bit of money in the long run.

I’ve always been a big fan of pay as you go services. Typically you can get plans for $50 a month that includes unlimited data, text, and minutes. Cricket’s plans are similar to that, with one exception. You will only get 2.3Gb of data and then it will be throttled. However, 2.3GB is more than most carriers give these days and unlike other cell phone companies they admit that you will be throttled when you exceed it. The price for this plan will be a flat monthly rate of $55.

It might have taken so long to do this because the iPhone is a pretty expensive phone. Leap is paying Apple an unknown sum of money to subsidize the cost of the phone. This keeps the prices as low as possible for Cricket customers.

Hints are not really something which everyone wants to hear, given their tendency to be vague, unclear and undefined.

But when someone like Tim Cook, Apple’s current CEO, hints with a “a stay tuned”, thought balloons over the heads of those who hear are bound to pop up.

In an All Things D conference held in Ranchos Palos Verdes in California, Tim Cook tells Walt Mossberg of Apple’s “very solid” relationship with Facebook, the internet’s current online social network giant.

“We have great respect for them. I think we can do more with them,” as Tim Cook is reportedly said to have shared to Mossberg.

The talk led to the possible integration of Facebook into Apple’s iOS in the future, somewhat similar to what Apple worked out with Twitter, integrating Twitter into a system-level standing in Apple’s mobile operating system.

“Stay tuned” was what Cook had to say about further ties and tie-ups with Facebook.

Given that both Apple and Facebook are not direct competitors in the industries they respectively operate on, the healthy relationship between the two doesn’t really strike as a strange setup.

But with ongoing rumors of Facebook delving into the mobiles market, onlookers can’t help but wonder if this healthy relationship would remain to be if a Facebook-branded phone does come out.

With one rumor telling of Facebook calling in former Apple engineers in the construction of an actual Facebook phone, forecasts and speculations are being formed and reformed over just what exactly Apple and Facebook is doing, with “what’s up with that” glares thrown at Cook’s “stay tuned” remark.

There are many great applications such as Pandora for streaming music on the iPhone, but what if you just want to listen to the plain old radio? Even though the iPhone doesn’t have specific hardware to do so, it’s still possible to stream local radio stations using your data connection.

TuneIn is a cool service for your iPhone, Android, PC and more. It allows you to stream local radio stations over the internet for free. They support all stations of all major cities in the United States. Some Androids like the Galaxy S3 are starting to come with built in FM tuners, but for smart phones, streaming it over the internet is necessary.

One cool thing about this service is that if you like a radio station you wouldn’t normally pick up, it’s available to you with TuneIn. You can listen to radio stations, over 50,000 of them, from around the country.

TuneIn even allows you to listen to police frequencies. You can hear the 911 dispatcher in different parts of the country dispatch commands live. Other iPhone apps (Unlock Unit) allow you to only do one or the other, TuneIn does both.

You can use the free version of this app, or go pro. The only difference is that with the Pro version you can record the radio station you’re listening to for a one-time fee. If you’re on a PC there’s software to record whatever is coming out of your sound card. However, if you’re on a mobile device like an iPhone this is an extremely useful feature.

As a mobile, the iPhone is a fully-featured device that is capable of doing all sorts of things, from snapping pictures, browsing web pages, and handling enhanced modern communications.

Fully-featured as iPhones are, there are some tips and tricks which every iPhone user is not aware of, extending the iPhone’s functionality and benefits.

Here are three iPhone tips and tricks worth knowing about.

“Vibra-Caller ID” – the iOS 5 operating system which runs in most iPhones comes with support-features for people with disabilities, with software/hardware highlights for visually impaired or hearing impaired persons.

One feature made for visually impaired persons takes shape in a “vibra-caller ID” feature, which basically arms iPhone users with the capacity to “feel” who is calling them. Custom or unique vibration schemes or patterns can be associated with certain contact numbers/details, giving users a different mode of identifying who’s calling them, apart from what’s “told” on an iPhone’s screen.

“Hands-free” Photo Taking – Apart from controlling an iPhone’s volume levels, users can actually use the iPhone’s headset as an alternative means for snapping photos.

For users with portable iPhone tripods, the utilization of this feature is quite nifty, and for those who have the tendency to shake or jar photo frame shots while pushing the capture photo button, opting to use the iPhone’s headset as the photo clicker limits the jarred effect when capturing stills.

When iPhones get lost – though not exactly a built-in feature/app, iPhone users will find the Find My iPhone app quite handy, given the app’s practical benefits for iPhone users.

For one, users can use the app in locating the whereabouts of an iPhone using a computer or any other supported device. A loud ring can be “remote controlled”, which would help users find where the iPhone was last left. It negates the process of having to open drawers and search under beds, when iPhones get lost.

The app can also be used to erase or wipe pertinent data, should an iPhone be parted from its owner.

The abovementioned tips and tricks work with the iOS 5.1 system installed, and if your iPhone is still not using it, it’s a good time to start updating your phone.

Talk was rife of Facebook developing a “Facebook Phone” some months back, found in various forum sites and electronic media watchguards, telling about Facebook’s intention in going beyond the online social network arena.

Back then, rumors of HTC being pegged to develop the phone (code named “Buffy”) was the hottest bit of gossip revolving around a “Facebook Phone”, with the item heralded to be available within the third quarter of 2012.

Recently, a new rumor hailing from the New York Times tells of Facebook hiring “more than half a dozen former Apple hardware and software engineers who worked on the iPhone” in developing another Facebook-branded mobile.

It is said that this new rumor is the third of its kind, with the New York Times report revealing that previous attempts proved to be too difficult for its proponents. The report also notes that Facebook, by hiring former Apple engineers, acknowledges the value of having experienced developers in the making of a quality mobile.

The Times report shares that: “One engineer who formerly worked at Apple and worked on the iPhone said he had met with [Zuckerberg], who then peppered him with questions about the inner workings of smartphones.”

With Google’s recent acquisition of Motorola Mobility, the idea of an online entity “buying into” the hardware development arena is not as far fetched as one would imagine.

Given Facebook’s recent IPO, which reportedly raised $16 billion, the social network giant has gathered enough to do what Google recently did, though one question remains crucial if a Facebook Phone actually does come to be: What added electronic consumer benefits would it arm users with, apart from those already available in today’s mobiles and portables?

There’s already a Facebook app, so what else would a Facebook phone do?

The Transportation Security Admission (TSA) is reported to be looking into investing a whooping $3 million on a thousand Apple mobiles and a thousand Apple computers, based on reports telling of recently discovered documents said to come from the TSA.

Based on a report which was posted in CNet, the TSA move is linked with the organization’s necessity for a secure mobile platform, which its computing pilot calls for as a need through the existence of the iOS environment.

The said documents note how mobiles like the iPad, iPhone, and AppleTV facilitates the quick training processes/presentation requirements. The documents also notes how beneficial these devices are for forensic investigations, and also tells a lot about how Apple gadgets would help in the production of video and graphics-driven presentations/productions.

Security testing is also noted to be a benefit which the TSA could gain from the use of Apple mobiles and computers.

With other mobile and computer operating system environments (with some actually cheaper in comparison to Apple’s wares), it’s not surprising to note that there have been a number of negative reactions over the TSA’s intent in actively taking in Apple-family gadgets and gizmos.

One reaction goes as far as touching up on how “internal TSA meetings” are going to be better, given that “that’s what they’ll be using those toys for, anyways”. The fact that the Apple security ecosystem stands to be ten years behind that of Windows (based on analysis from McAfee) has also led many to question why the TSA would opt for Apple as their primary system of choice.

As Apple recently (though silently) released an update for the iOS, a jailbreak update had also been released, though any connection between the timely release of the two remains to be labeled as a matter of coincidence.

Dubbed as Absinthe 2.0 iOS 5.1.1, the hack is said to be geared for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, developed to allow the installation of non-sanction apple apps, themes and other software add-ons and bits.

It is said to be “one of the quickest jailbreaks to-date”, which involves the physical plugging of a device to a computer via USB cable, then followed by the click of a button, and nothing more. The jailbreak update is reported to have been developed by iPhone Dev Teams and Chronic-Dev Team.

As a practice, jailbreaking Apple mobiles is NOT illegal, but since jailbreaking Apple mobiles allows for the use of pirated software, the act is understandably branded as an illegal activity.

As a means of voiding Apple warranties though, jailbreaks are one surefire method of deeming warranty conditions as dead, leaving users to contend with problems as non-warranty-covered users, should their mobiles bug down on them after a jailbreak.

As a jailbreaking suite, Absinthe 2.0 iOS 5.1.1 comes with support for different iPad versions with newer models left unsupported, but with an update for them to come in the days ahead.

As already mentioned, jailbreaking your iDevice is not illegal, but doing so comes with a number of risks, which, at their worst, could “brick” your mobile. As such, careful thought should be done in thinking about jailbreaking your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad mobile.

Last Friday, Apple released an iOS update for the GSM iPhone 4, dubbed the iOS 5.1.1 update (GSM only).

What’s strange about this update was that no official statement over what it is supposed to “fix” for iPhone 4 units has been released, along with the fact that a previous iOS 5.1.1 update had been released last May 7, leaving many to wonder why the most recent update still remains to be numbered as the iOS 5.1.1 update.

The May 7 iOS 5.1.1 release was geared to address HDR photo-fixes and fixes for AirPlay-video issues.

Reports from The Next Web tell of how a tweet from infamous iH8sn0w (iPhone hacker) shares that the GSM iPhone 4 update of the iOS 5.1.1 was subtlety released, without any of the fanfare most iOS updates are known to come out with, which basically makes last Friday’s iOS 5.1.1 release as an update release – kinda like an update of the update, if that makes any sense to you.

Users of GSM iPhone 4 users can readily update their mobiles via the built-in iPhone Software Update feature/portal, after readily and physically connecting the mobile to a computer with iTunes installed.

Given that there hasn’t been an official statement over what last Friday’s iOS 5.1.1 fixes, it can be assumed that additional fixes were included over the previous May 7 release, though what exactly, is unsure as of writing.

Reports tell that a number of parties have already gotten ahold of Apple, requesting for a formal list of fix details, for users to assess the necessity of installing it over their current GSM iPhone 4 software builds.

We’ll be jotting down those fixes once details regarding them turn out.
