There are many reasons why you may want to conserve your cash by eating inexpensively while on your Smoky Mountain vacation. It is close to the Kroger Grocery store and Lowes Home Improvement just off the Parkway as you enter Sevierville. This blast from the past, 50’s style diner features friendly service and all American classic meals and desserts, including breakfast. They boast 30 meals for under $5.99 and also offer some great lunch specials Monday thru Friday.

If your taste buds are calling for Mexican, we recommend El Paso which is located in the same complex as the Diner just next to Staples. El Paso features an extensive lunch-special menu with meals in the $4-$6 dollar range. The special lunch pricing is only availabe Monday thru Friday, but if you can get there for your middle-of-the-day meal, you will be served good food at a good value.

If you want a little bit of everything, Ryan’s Steakhouse is a block south of The Diner on the same side of the road. They offer an excellent value with a Monday-Friday all-you-can-eat lunch buffet for only $4.99. The food is always fresh and tastes great! We have also found the staff there to be friendly and helpful.

There are plenty of fast food restaurants to choose from as well. There’s McDonalds, Wendy’s, Taco Bell, Burger King, Hardee’s, KFC, Subway, Sonic, Quiznos, A&W Root Beer, and more. Many of them have value meals and items that are budget priced.

If there is rain or other inclement weather that keeps you and your family from enjoying the mountains and attractions, it’s a great idea to order in a pizza and have it delivered to the hotel or rental cabin. Well known chains like Pizza Hut, Domino’s, Papa John’s and Bellacino’s have one or more locations in the area. Pizza joints often run specials that prove to be a good value, especially for families.

Another great idea is to rent a condo or mountain cabin for you and your family. Many of the condos are fully equipped with a kitchen, appliances, plates and utensils, so you can store and prepare your own meals. This is a great way to save lots of money on dining out, and you will have more space to stretch out and relax. One thing to keep in mind if you are going to be buying groceries is that Tennessee charges tax on groceries. I have personally been to the Smoky Mountains numerous times myself. The views of the majestic mountains are just as breathtaking each time I go. The best way to enjoy the mountain views is to rent a Smoky Mountain rental cabin. These beautiful cabins range from two star accommodations to five star accomodations.

You can find cabins with pool tables, air hockey, foosball, darts, hot tubs, jacuzzi tubs, swimming pools and dynamic views. Many of the cabins have access to creeks where you can fish, wade the creek, swim and have a barbeque or picnic there. Basically, when you go to the Smoky Mountains you are guaranteed, with the right research, to find the picturesque cabin that will meet and exceed all your expectations.

The most popular cities to visit in the Smoky Mountains are Pigeon Forge, Sevierville and Gatlinburg. They all have alot of entertainment that is close by to the many cabin rentals available. By going to some the websites above, you can basically hand pick your cabin rental that will meet all you requirements. Most of these website will have links to the many different cabin rental accommodations where you can type in your specific number of guests, bedrooms, quality of the cabin, amenities and specific needs. Plus, if you plan on going to visit when it isn't the peak season, you can catch some fantastic deals on alot of these sites.

Many will offer you to buy two or three nights and get one free, buy four or five nights and get two nights free or a certain percentage off your stay. The sites will let you know how high up your cabin will be on the mountain or if you prefer to be down lower on the mountain you can find one of those cabins too. Most sites will also include detailed pictures of the cabin that you are interested in renting and with the majority of the rental sites you can book online.

Booking online to me is the most convenient and secure way to guarantee that your cabin will be ready for you when you are ready for it. You and your family will defiantely not be disappointed when you find that just right cabin and take your vacation. Gatlinburg, Tennessee is a place like no other. The city is nestled in The Great Smoky Mountains and is the home to wildlife unimaginable. From the door of your cabin or chalet, you can see and feel the secluded serenity of the mountains; then, drive ten minutes in to town and shop and feast in city like proportions! The best way to experience Gatlinburg is from a Gatlinburg Tennessee cabin.

The first step in finding the perfect Tennessee vacation spot is to research cabin rental companies. There are many companies that offer rentals. You need to first ask yourself whether you would like a cabin or chalet. What is the difference? Esthetics. A cabin is a traditional wooden dwelling. Typically with hardwood floors and a wood surface ceiling. If you want a more "modern" approach, a chalet may be the better choice. A chalet may have an exterior of stone, brick, or siding. The walls are generally sheet rock, painted or wall-papered. Both types are located in the mountains. They are normally surrounded by woods and have a mountain view. Often times a unit will have a sloping driveway since they are sometimes built into the side of a foothill or mountain.

The prices will vary depending on the time of year you are planning to make your trip nd of course the number of bedrooms you will need. A one bedroom can run between $99-$120 a night or $550-$750 a week. Where a three bedroom could run you $110-$150 a night or $650-$900 a week. Keep in mind that these rates can change seasonally. Gatlinburg's "in-season" runs from June to December, peaking at times the leaves change and mountains are snow capped. During the in-seasons and around holidays you most likely incur a three night minimum, and other times a two night minimum.

Amenities may include a jacuzzi, fireplace, grill with or without provided charcoal/gas, and a furnished deck for those quiet romantic nights with a breath-taking view. Some companies offer packages that include horseback riding or tickets to local attractions.

If you are planning to rent a cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, you may have a difficult time deciding which of the attractions you want to visit and what activities you want to do. There are so many from which to choose. Here are some Smoky Mountain attractions that are definitely not to be missed.

The Smoky Mountains contain some of the most scenic hiking trails in the eastern United States. Some easygoing trails lead through old growth forests to waterfalls. The Laurel Falls Trail in the Elkmont area is a popular 2.6 mile round trip on an asphalt walkway. At the end of the Grotto Falls Trail, a 3 mile round trip, in the Gatlinburg area, you will be able to enjoy the spray of the waterfalls as you walk behind them. If you hike the trail in May, you will see a carpet of trilliums, white violets, and Dutchman’s breeches among the old growth hemlocks of the forest. More challenging trails include those rising to the panoramic views atop Mount LeConte and along the Gregory Bald Trail in the Cades Cove/Townsend area. The more challenging trails of the Smoky Mountains are between ten to fourteen miles in length and ascend 1000 to almost 4000 feet.

Whitewater rafting and kayaking for experienced enthusiasts may be found on the Little River between Elkmont and Townsend. This is a Class III to V run during the high waters of spring and after heavy rainfall. The southwest Tennessee foothills offer three rivers on which to canoe, raft, or kayak: the Ocoee, a Class III to IV paddle; the Hiwassee, for Class II levels; and the Tellico, for experienced Class III rides. If you are new to the sport, the Little Pigeon River in the Townsend area is Class I.

The section of Highway 441 between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg contains nonstop entertainment venues of different types. If you are looking for mountain crafts, you would do well to drive the eight miles of US 321 east of Gatlinburg known as The Glades Arts and Crafts Community. The seventy plus artisans of this community have small studios very different from the downtown tourist shops of Gatlinburg. They sell everything from hand-carved wooden birds, mountain brooms, and watercolors to fine porcelain and sculptures.

Most visitors think of Dollywood, the 90 acre amusement park which carries singer Dolly Parton’s name, when they tour this part of Tennessee. Dollywood itself can take four or more hours to enjoy. Water rides like the Log Flume and carnival rides besides the live shows at on site theatres will keep the family busy.

There are other attractions to amuse the vacationing family. In Gatlinburg, you can visit the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum or the Guinness World Records Museum, both of which contain interesting if not at times bizarre exhibits. In Tennessee’s southwestern foothills is the Fort Loudin State Historic Area with its replica of a British fort and ruins of an American fort from the late 1700's. Near Venore is the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum operated by the Cherokee tribe and remembering the life of Sequoyah and historic events in Cherokee history. Both museums can take one hour or more to visit.

If exploring caverns is more to your taste, The Lost Sea near Sweetwater and the Tuckaleechee Caverns near Townsend have guided tours which last a little over one hour each. The Lost Sea tour involves a short walk and a cruise in a glass-bottomed boat on the waters of the underground lake. The Tuckaleechee Caverns include the Big Room, a subterranean cavern about 200 feet in width and 400 feet in length. You may possibly see a pygmy bat in the cavern depths.

One last place in the Tennessee section of the Smoky Mountains to visit is the Cades Cove region. Not only can you see ten historic sites like the John Oliver and Dan Lawson Places, log cabins set off from the Cades Cove Loop Road, but you can bike or walk the eleven mile road on certain days of the week when vehicle traffic is restricted and be able to take your time. Cades Cove also has hiking trails with ratings of easy to moderate (Schoolhouse Gap, Abrams Falls, and West Prong) to very challenging (Rocky Top/Thunderhead and Spence/Russell Field Loop). For every type of family, there are Smoky Mountain attractions appealing to each individual taste.

Smoky Mountains Cabins - You Can Dream Here

Another pink dawn. I step outside the cabin, gently close the door behind me and inhale the dream. A murmuring, crystal stream full of trout, but a stones throw across the meadow, beckons. Whitetail deer enjoy mouthfuls of sweet, dew sparkled grass, not seeming to mind an onlooker. I saunter over to the log that I sat on last night where we shared stories and sang around a campfire. Then I gaze back over toward the cabin and think, "I’m so glad we chose one of these quiet Smoky Mountains cabins for our vacation."

We wanted this secluded, rustic setting, nestled in the peaceful forest of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. For us, the choice between any of the one to eight bedroom cabins, was simple. We could even have chosen a beautiful chalet. But, two bedrooms, one for my wife and I, the other for the kids seemed fitting. Oh yes, and Hobo, our boxer pup shares the room with the kids. Pets are very welcome here.

Of course, my wife Sheila wanted all the amenities of home during our outing, such as a hot tub, Jacuzzi, game table, flat screen TV and high speed internet. Imagine that! Anyway, those were the main reasons we made this choice. We could have gotten a simpler, less expensive cabin for under $100.00 but, we went for the whole enchilada. There are such a variety of cabins to choose from for every pocketbook and preference here. And say, did I mention the splendid mountain views? Wow!

I hear someone stirring in the cabin. Sheila’s probably putting coffee on. We talked yesterday about visiting nearby Dollywood or Dolly's Splash Country, then sightseeing downtown Gatlinburg, where countless fresh flowers of every color line the streets. It’s only a twenty minute drive from here and I promised the kids a trip to the incredible Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies. And I hear that the arts and crafts community there creates some wonderful exhibits. Yes, and I’m sure that a trip to the mall there is inevitable.

Well, maybe tomorrow we can hike one of the numerous forest trails, where if we’re lucky, we can catch a glimpse of a newborn fawn this time of year. We might even take in "Ober Gatlinburg", which is a ski lodge and year round amusement park. My goodness. How are we going squeeze all of this fun into one trip? Our get away ends soon, but I’m sure the Smoky Mountains cabins will see us again this winter. I’m counting on it.
